Jelly bean roms - Kindle Fire General

Which jelly bean rom is the best that has the nexus 7 layout?

I have tried both hashcode cm10 and Jandycane, and I prefer the latter.

Does jandycane have the modified phone/tablet hybrid UI? Like the nexus 7?

If you go to the thread you will see screenshots in the first post. Please go look at them and see for yourself. A little searching gets you a long way.

Has code's stock ROM has the Nexus 7 lay out. Jandy Cane has ICS style tablet optimizations, which I prefer

Hashcode's Jellybean ROM has the Nexus 7 layout. I have not seen at others with the Nexus 7 layout. By will admit that this ROM is one of the best I have ever used. You should really try it.

I'm a complete newbie - only rooted and flashed my Fire for the first time this week. I'm currently running Hashcode's most recent Jelly Bean ROM, and thus far it's been great. Stock Google JB layout, fantastic functionality.
However... I'm debating trying out twa_priv's newer ROM, which isn't stock Google but a modified CM10. That might, ultimately, be the best option, but I'm not sure.
Anybody able to compare these two builds and let us know what differs between them or why we might prefer one over the other?

I prefer Jandycane over Hashcodes just because it has the tablet option.

....
... I have been using the Hascode Rom for a while now and the only thing that I don´t like is the short battery life and the "seemingly" slow charging, are the other roms any better in terms of battery life?

Cm9 roms are a little bit better and the cm7 roms definitely have better batterry life.
Cm10/Jelly Bean roms will all have pretty much the same battery life.

I started of with with jandycane and liked the layout, but switched to CM10 SGT7 because of incompatibles with apps (chrome, Swype, Ing direct, groupon, living social)

ROM Suggestion for Daughter's New Kindle Fire

My daughter got a new Kindle Fire as a birthday gift over the weekend, and we’re trying to figure out which ROM to put on it. She has an Android phone, so her primary purpose of ROMing the Kindle Fire is to access the Google Play store and to be able to sync all of her other Google services... Books, Music, Apps, Gmail, Calendar, Talk, etc…
We’re not necessarily looking for the latest/greatest, but we are mostly interested in…
Most Stable & Bug Free (we don't plan on changing often)
Closest to Vanilla Android (no themes)
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Honestly a rooted kindle fire and Go launcher app will get you the least fuss and closest to an android phone without losing the Amazon functionality.
However, if you want to go ROM and are looking for most stable the Cynogen Mod 7 roms are the most stable and will be exactly like having an android phone.
Good luck

Thank you... and honestly, we don't care much about keeping the Amazon functionality. If I knew magic, I would simply turn the Kindle Fire into a Nexus 7 and be done with it. But, we'll work with what we've got!
i use this mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778010
it is pretty stable as is, and updating it is easy.
cm7 is nice, because it is stable, but myself, i prefer the latest and greatest.
also, be sure to use something along these lines to set up your kindle for the new rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
Thanks I was looking at that one and also Hashcode's Jellybean.
I downloaded the Kindle Fire Utility and read the KFFB Guide this morning... just trying to figure out which ROM to go with.
Personally I recommend an ICS rom. CM7 is good but it is getting outdated. Jellybean is also good but still has bugs. ICS does not have any major bugs and is a lot smoother than CM7. I suggest either the SGT7 based rom by twa_priv, Glazed ICS, or gedeROM.
When you ask me the cm9/ SGT7 based rom by twa_priv,
Or cm10/jelly bean rom based on SGT7 by twa_priv.
If you need to use Amazon's services, check out the MoDaCo ROM. It is the stock rom, but has preinstalled, the Play Store, as well as other things.
If you would like to use ICS, check out GedeROM as it is based on Cyanogen Mod 9 and has lots of features such as advertisement blocking and Beats audio as well as limited support for USB OTG.
If you want it to look like a Nexus 7, you can always install a Jelly Bean ROM. I'm using the Jandycane ROM.
twa_priv's jelly bean Rom is pretty stable. I use it and haven't had any problems.

Thanks everyone... I got Hashcode's Jellybean installed last night, and it's running great. However, now my daughter is telling me that she misses the way her Kindle Fire looked before the ROM... teenagers! So, I might have to redo it and give MoDaCo that jji7skyline recommended.

Modaco is pretty good. I personally like the real android interface better but it's her kindle not mine.

I second the MoDaCo recommendation. It gives the best of both worlds, full Amazon integration with performance enhancements, root and GAPPS! I've tried many of the ICS ROMs and the charging / battery life issues are just a deal breaker for me as it seriously hampers usability. I also have yet to see an ICS ROM that implements decent 2D video acceleration...try using Zite on an ICS ROM vs stock/MoDaCo, it's buttery smooth on stock and so slow scrolling on ICS that it's nearly unusable (and that's with the 1.2 Ghz overclock).
Good luck with whatever choice you make!

I ended up installing MoDaCo over the weekend. My daughter was out of town, so she hasn't given me her feedback yet. But, I played around with it and liked it quite a bit.
The only thing that bugs me is the low resolution icons from the Play Store that show up in the carousel. The Play Store icon itself seems to be high resolution, but the icons from downloaded apps look pretty bad when enlarged by the carousel.
In the next coming days ill be running into your same situation. Younger sis got a kindle fire for her birthday. Am planning to root and install her a good ICS Rom. A stable one, as I will not have free time to wipe cache and debug everytime something happens. My kindle fire has the Modaco Rom. I can tell you from my experience that the modaco has several downsides, as I see it. As u mentilned the carousel icons are hectic but bearable. One more problem is the gapps are all outdated like youtube and the browser is sub par compared to chrome.
I just wish I can flash nexus 7's Rom right on top

This is good advice. CM10 ROMs still have Location Services issues and the occasional widget loss on reboot. If you want everything to work nicely grab twa_priv's CM9 ROM. If you want Jelly Bean and can wait a few weeks it's likely a good idea to wait. Remember, for us half the fun is gettng the latest and greatest and fiddling with getting stuff to work. For your daughter you really just want it to work.
Try Jandycane. I installed it and it runs great

Anything from twa_prob. His CM9 based ROM is more stable, but the CM10 version is quickly catching up.

[Q] What is the best Nexus 7 ROM?

Hi there! I have used Paranoid Android, AOKP Jellybean Glazed and the standard ROM and havent found anything perfect. I was wondering if someone could point me! I need a ROM that's stable for music as AOKP isnt Apollo crashes and that also has good features such as a great keyboard as I use it for college and Generally stable! Thanks for the help!
I really like EOS Nightlies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777586
They are VERY stable and have great battery life. They also have a sweet Tablet mode and some pretty good tweaks (and Theme support). They probably don't have AS many tweaks as some of the other roms, but it has the important ones. It is a good balance between customization and stability. The Tablet Mode is why I started using it and haven't looked back. I've flashed several other roms and most of them use the Phone/Phablet UI with no options to switch to tablet mode on demand.
It's what I use and I recommend it.
Another panda just died. In other news... in before the lock.
The best rom is the one that works best for you. In other words, its entirely subjective and only you can answer the question for yourself.

I like Team EOS as well. Used PA for a couple days and ultimately just prefer the simplicity and ease-of-use of Team EOS. Use it on my Xoom tablet too, and even installed it on my GF's Xoom

Are most Nexus users Flashing new ROMs or staying stock???

Please say which you prefer and why. And if you are using a custom ROM please explain why you choose that specific ROM. I'm currently stock and wondering if I should flash at this point. Thank you!

I flashed Paranoid Android because I don't like the "phablet" interface on the 10 inch screen, and PA allows you to change the interface.

Stock with root. Might look at/try some other in the future but I don't have any issues/problems with stock to need a change.
Stock rooted or paranoid rom so you can change to traditional tablet layout. Ive tried all the roms. The 2 ive mentioned are my favs

Stock, not even bothered rooting. Haven't really found any need to fiddle with the thing. But then again it is my first tablet so i have no prior bias so to speak, so maybe i'm just not aware of what it is inferior to, but it doen't bother me, because it does it's job just dandy.
Running PA here because I like the tablet UI. Considering trying AOKP in a bit.
im currently rooted, on stock. Will be heading over to Paranoid Android. They're by far the best rom i have experienced, allowing you to customise your apps, layout, etc more than i have known. All of my other devices are on PA.
I am running craigacgomez AOSP Rom for the stock like feel with added benefits:
1. Expanded desktop for watching movies and gaming
2. Built in OTG works great
3. Undervolting kernel for cooler temps and battery life.
4. Logitech unifying receiver support
5. Better pull down settings and better reboot options.

Stock, unlocked, rooted for now, TWRP installed. Also using APEX Pro launcher. The whole thing is already slippery smooth and responsive, APEX is great with this. I want to try stock for a while and get familiar with it so I'll have a basis for comparison if/when I try a custom ROM. On my GNex, custom ROMs were much more important to me, as the stock experience was "ok" but not great. Finding the right kernel and ROM has made the GNex great. I'm finding the N10 great already on stock 4.2.1, and I expect to keep it stock for a while -- I'll keep following ROM and kernel dev for it, but for the moment, I've got no strong urge to start flashing it yet although I fully expect to down the road.
I'm on the CM10.1 preview. I wanted a little more customization over stock, and I'm a CM junky.
Rooted stock right now. I will probably start trying some roms soon, if I don't return this replacement for the light bleed.
I'm kind of surprised there aren't more roms for the Nexus 10 than there are right now. Is it just not that popular or what?
Paranoid Android for true Tablet UI
CM 10.1 nightlies here
Stock everything + rooted.
On my GNex, I'm running BB, so I'm more for stability than packing features.
Stock
Unlocked/rooted/stock. I haven't found the need to try ROMs yet. When I get bored with stock or find something I can't do, then I will try some ROMs. Root is a necessity....Stickmount, Titanium Backup and Adaway. I am enjoying the tablet though, way better then my Tab 10.1
Root and Stock...
Might give "craigacgomez AOSP " a try in January.
Unlocked rooted stock don't find the need to try any custom Roms.

Well, I ran stock for a total of 15 mins... I've been mostly on my AOSP+ ROM (duh!!)... but I've used CM10.1, AOKP & Evervolv as well... haven't tried PA yet... I love the new Android UI with the split pull downs and separate status & nav bars...
Ran stock rooted for the better part of a week, then jumped to the 1/1 CM10.1 nightly as soon as I read about the Chronus lockscreen widget.
Full disclosure: I'm running CM10.1 on my Galaxy Nexus, too. Synergy...

[POLL] What OS are you settling with

From a previous poll a few of you are going to keep your Nexus S for a year or more. So, what Android OS version (doesn't matter what ROM) or other OS are you settling with?
Jellybean 4.2.2 (more precisely Jellyshot 4.1)
Jelly Bean 4.1.2, CM 10 last nightly. 4.2 is just to much for the Nexus hardware (RAM to be precise) and there doesn't exist single thing which I find interesting to keep it.

I'm running the last official AOKP milestone release- it's using 4.1.2- with the last Matr1x kernel release. I keep most settings at default. It's the best all-around experience (stability, speed, battery) that I've ever had on this phone. I still lurk these forums and am surprised that I don't see more folks running this simple setup. It's like running a smooth stock Android phone, but with a few key extras. It's just the best to "settle" with.
Apparently gingerbread because it is just so smooth and the boot time is much faster since it doesn't have the triple buffer stuff

Jellyshot is performing really well on my phone. But then I'm a ROM flashing addict so i'll be visiting various pastures
Jelly Bean 4.2.2 for sure
i hear some ppl saying that 4.1 is better because it's faster on our older hardware, but some of the 4.2 roms/mods/tweaks/kernel combinations are at least just as fast

Stock, because all the ROMs I've tried have been buggy and don't offer a great deal of additional functionality. I do have high hopes for PA though, once thier multi-window is finished. I have rooted the tablet though, mainly for the aosp browser.
I haven't had any real bugs with CM and PA, but AOKP has some weird theming bugs with settings not taking.
I use Pacman, which has CM, PA, and AOKP... All in one package.
KTManta kernel is hands-down my favorite kernel, as well.
PA was put on my Nexus straight away since I detest the phablet look, but now they're adding other things such as halo which is great. Plus PA makes mes want a Nexus 4 to get the most out of it on my phone too.

PA is nice and a great ROM, but if you need performance, sadly, it sucks. I haven't tried the latest build with halo, but on 3.15 the performance is really bad on games.
I use PA for the Hybrid engine. It is truly brilliant. I get very few errors in terms of performance and the tablet crashes occasionally but it's worth it--especially for Halo alone. Hopefully they will start to develop the Halo functionality in regards to tablets having multi-window rather than stacked Halo processes.

Mmuzzy's rom. Close to stock, rooted, with a couple little tweaks. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071082
Rasbeanjelly + franco.Kernel
Not a ton of customization, lightweight, fast and optimized. And can use the same combination across all my devices (N4, N7, and N10).
I never used PA, but have heard quite a few reports of it being somewhat on the worse-side for performance.
Carbon ROM, felt the smoothest for me and had all the customizations I needed. A second for me would be Sentinel ROM. I guess it depends on what your main preference is. If its AOSP (stock), PA, cyanogen, or AOKP. They all offer something different. The best way is try a ROM and see if you are comfortable with the usage of that ROM. Also Kernel can also help play a role in your ROM choice.
I use the last RasSaber build, dont know where it is available anymore though. It gives me enough of the customization that I want, a nice built in theme, and very smooth performance with great battery life. For kernel I use the KTManta kernel because it offers the best battery life through undervolting and also gives me the best performance. Lots of fun options with it if your into that sort of thing.
Can you please share the rom if you have the package ? I dont find it neighter

But rasbeanjelly, RasSaber, Sabermod, and Sentinel are all top notch in my book.

So would you recommend sticking to rooted stock rom? Is that stablet enough for Battery/Gaming/OverallPerformance
You can if you want to, but you can get more performance on custom stuff. Or less performance but a LOT more features if you choose ParanoidAndroid.

Someone should do a performance check on PAC ROM. If it has all these features from different ROMs, including P.A. then it *should* also have similar performance right? Would be pretty weird if another dev who ported Paranoid Android features got it working way better when mixed with even more things on top.
