3.X.X kernel - GT540 Optimus General

Hi guys does anybody knows are some DEV/DEVS buiding 3.0.X or 3.X.X kernel?
Till now we don't have so many kernels only 2.6.x kernels.
It would be nice if we had 3.x.x kernel in our LG gt540.
I think it's also better for ics and jellybean than example 2.6.35.11 (Correct If I'm wrong ).

Because...
Could you explain it a little more please ? I know that a 3.x kernel is extremely unlikely, but I don't know why it is. Could you share a bit of your knowledge?

It needs writing/porting ALL drivers . Extremely hard to do. We should be happy to have 2.6.32/35 and not only 29 provided by LG. Other phones which have kernel sources and everything provided by their manufacturers of course have newer, better kernel (for ics and jb) but the kernels we have do their Job ok..

Let's see how good jellybean we have after a while with 2.6.35 kernel.

Well I guess I will stay with gb till the end
Why You like to stay with gb because it maybe little faster than ics or it has also little more free ram??
I go to ics because all of the gb roms are unstable for me which is doesn't good for me.
So ics is a lot more stable for me and i like ics style more than gb .

of course ICS is much more beautiful, but GB has more free ram and i can't stand waiting like 10 seconds to open a new app ( yeah thats really true)
tejasdj12's Cm7 is much more stable than any cm9/aokp i've tested

Any of gb rom (tejas, miro, win) are way faster then ics and good for dayle use. Ics is just to slow, 5-10 to open dailer or sms app is iritating.

[Q] question about new custom roms

hi, i want some help with it!
actually i have cyanogenmod gingerbread 2.3.7 with kernel 2.6.29 , by mur4ik
but now i have heard that he is not making or working on it anymore and there are another guys making new things with 2.3.7 for example the swiftdroid second life, or the custom rom made by pete and his friend.
i wanted to know if these ones are better versions than the one i have, or if they are behind it, and if those two are newer and better versions, wich one would you recommend for lg gt 540?,
and another thing, they talk a lot about kernels, really the mur4ik rom i installed was like a package so i really didn't even care about it
but now that are talking about it and wanted to know what is it , and why is better one or another
i heard some of the guys want to puto a .31 kernel instead a .29 and things like that, and well, i really don't know it so well
help with that please, thanks!
Well for kernels look it up on Google a bit too long to explain it here.
For l android 2.1 the best kernel to be used is .29 kernel for 2.2 it would be the .32 kernel and for 2.3 and 4.0(ics) it would be the .35/.38 or 3.0 kernel
As for roms you are using swiftdroid so keep it or then next best thing would be any 2.2 rom I recommend project Utopia but if I where you I will wait for Mike's asop 2.3.7 v6 to come out
I sure am waiting for V6 mike's rom.
For the looks of it i am waiting for mikeĀ“s rom V6 it should be fast and stable, just hoping he releases it ASAP....
try Pebe 2.3.7 v5.1 rom, im using it and its quite good!
Yes, the last pcf cm7 (.32) is very good. The only thing that it ends with the battery much faster than for example in pcf aosp 2.2.2 (.32)
Froyo optimum is great too
Amazing battery life and so smooth

sorry to be so silly but,

the last one i have from him is v2.0 rc5 swiftdroid based on mur4ik
exactly which one of mike are you telling me about?
if you can post the link to the thread, that'd be nice.

well I did not put CM9 cuz as far as I know, CM9 rom includes a lot of bugs doesn't it?
and Ive tried a lot of roms from here too
and if something is wrong- ill fix it
Some are running CM9 without "many" bugs. some say it's even stable enough to show to your friends.
On that bombshell everyone runs whatever they see fit, and just "cruising" through the DEV section one should make a pretty good idea what is being in the top used ROMs.
There is no this is better than this, for 80% of ppl owning a SGS1 probably what was pre-installed on their phone was better than it was for the rest of us "kids" playing with fire. From experience I tell you that what works for you is the best ROM - heck there are still strong supporters of FROYO (if you know what I mean ).

New to the Defy - most recent stable rom

Hi,
I've picked up a motorola defy, and am wondering what is the most recent e.g ICS, rom that is stable and everything works?
So far i've rooted the phone and that's about it.
It's a 2.51 UK phone.
I'm familiar with the HTC Desire S roms, but haven't a clue when it comes to the Defy.
I've searched through the dev forum, but can't quite get an indication of what's what.
Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks for any replies.
Did you maybe already found out if it has green (SOC) lens or red (bayer) lens camera module? SOC only works on Froyo kernels, while bayer works on both Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. (Which is not of great importance, cause almost all ROM's are available for both kernels)
Anyways... What do you like? Here are some of my recommendations...
For MIUI v2 - Pikachu MIUI (WIUI comes 2nd, as Pikachu had fewer bugs for me and was overall snappier)
For MIUI v4 - WIUI v4
For CM7(.2) - maniac103's builds or FuZZ's KANG's - almost the same, but details do make them different
For CM9 - Epsylon3 made the latest CM9 builds with the final fixes and touches
For AOKP ICS - There's a Milestone 6 coming up soon, built by Kayant (he's building from source, port's can't compare with that)
For JellyBean - I must say I would recommend ParanoidAndroid, which is based on CMX, but somehow manages to be snappier and much better at RAM management. AOKP JP alpha is snappy, too, when compared to CMX. Although the CMX I'm talking about is the one build by Quarx, but people do say tha Epsylon's builts are better performance-wise.
Thanks.
From the looks of my lens it's bayer.
Are any of those roms a default/minimal ice cream sandwich? That's all i'm after really, as I guess jelly bean will have loads of stuff not working correctly yet.
Actually CM10 is working as good as CM9, maybe better. But I must say, I switched to CM10 since the 2nd nightly, and never went back to CM9, so maybe there was an improvement since that in CM9 nightlys...
But you should try them all and choose which you like

When you say minimal, I'm assuming you mean feature-wise, not GUI-wise, so I guess the best choice for you would be to wait up for AOSP Jelly Bean which Kayant is trying to build from source here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
If you don't want Jelly Bean, but ICS, then I think this is the way to go - CM9 Moto Ice Gun - http://www.custom-android.de/portfolio/cm9-motoicegun-edition/ (you can find it in the defy development forum, too). Most of the guys who tested it claim that it's the fastest ICS ROM for the Defy.

i still think , that CM9 is the most stable rom for defy
CM9 is fatser then GB , ICS if definitely better then GB in all terms
so a recent stable rom - CM9 .
but in near future , if TI releases proper SGX drivers for our devices .. then , m sure CM10 will be the most stable rom for defy .
IMHO I would choose CM10
What Kayant is doing isn't pure AOSP. It has some fixes!
I was talking with Quarx recently and he said that CM10 is very similar to pure AOSP..so trust me...go CM10

When I say minimal i mean without a bunch of pre-installed stuff like games, twitter etc..

I can't have working tether since CM9 from Quarx or E....
I don't know whether I'm using BL6 kernel (2.3.6) on Defy which cause this problem.
Also, since CM9, I can't play myTV (apps from TVB) live broadcast.
Anyone can help to try it on your CM9/10? Here is the apps:

Quarx,no doubt, he develops this. Anyways, if it includes some apps you don't want or some to add simply do this with an archiver manager on computer...
Hi all!
What stable ROM do you guys recommend for Defy green lens? I recently installed the most stable CM7 and I like but there are some thing I don't quite like, like the incompatibility with Titanium backup, the vibration issue for notifications, and the battery life didn't improve significantly. So, I am looking for the one but without having to flash 7-8 roms, that where you guys coming in, which rom out there is the best and stable for defy green lens?
And if you could include a download link would be great, because I encountered so many sites with links and versions and rom and kernels, and this and that, that is confusing for a newbie like me.
Thank you!

New kernel (not on our device ), hardware acceleration, new UI and ofc lots of improvements...
The biggest difference is the UI..
Once you use ICS you will begin to love its UI..
On our phones ? Not much. Try getting a phone like, lets say an S2 or a Nexus S which had both GB and ICS and you will see the difference
nothing special really.. but of course eye-candy improve a lot in ics but performance is indeed lower..
Bootloader Unlocked + nAa 14 + PrimeHd 10.0 + Cypress Digitizer + 787Mhz Overclocked + 8Gb Class 4 = 894 Antutu 3d Score + 2688 Antutu Benchmark
Hope developers will made nAa or Alfs kernel with 192mb of ram too or more, like in JB!

I test naa ics and jb, have 185 & 186 respectively, and alfs v9c have 187 mb of ram. This isnt better in jb, because of huge usage of RAM on a fat ROM.
The cause of many ppl use ics or jb is the ui, the best, but on our phone its slow. Even better a gingerbread rom with jb ui: GingerDX, smooth and beautifull
gingerbread and ics differences
the differences is:
1.the firmware and the UI
2.the kernel which kernel are u use????(stock, alfs,nAa and anastasia)
3.the launcher
4.the apps install(sometimes walkman ics not work on my gingerbread)
5.name(of course )
6. the android version(u can type the android 4 times to check the differences between them)
7.gb is heavier than ics(without custom kernel u cant try ics like a boss)
8.busybox(my friend told me if busybox for ics minimum is over 800kb and gingerbread is over 650kb :v )

Poll [JB kernel] multiboot or not

Well since we are working on many JB roms for GSM/CDMA for better JB roms,i m in doubt what users think..so i m gonna keep this real simple:
do you prefer a multiboot kernel like:
lupusJB v8 480p
turbo kernel 3.1
or lupus JBv13?:cyclops:
this might give an idea to @wedgess or @DiKeJ when updating a new JB kernel with no 4.2.2 support.

in my opinion ... A no multiboot kernel would be better ..
would ensure more compatibility .. and less complicated for users notavos .. (Would save a lot of silly questions to answer) jejej ..
light a future release of a 4.2 kernel ... not so charged (without many Governors and other things) would be great ..
By the way @ smokerman .. going to be possible in a future kernel to 4.3?? and reach some stable rom? sorry if this is a dumb question on my part ..
Honestly I'd rather use a multiboot kernel like lupus v8 or turbo kernel. It's easier for testing Roms and seeing what you want to use and if you want different themed Roms much easier. The only reason I'm on lupus v13 is because I'm stuck on it lol
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
Honestly I prefer to have multiboot capability like turbo 3.1 jb ICS (cm9) ICS (stock) and GB its great. and easy to swap out Roms while on the move and you can't always flash a kernel just MHO
Sent from my R800x using xda premium
For testing it is really useful to have multiboot (even if we need a good sdcard to use it, with a class 4 sd it is unasable for example), but to keep the things simple IMHO is better to not have it
Sent from my Xperia Play using Tapatalk 4 Beta
@smokerman, on second thought, it would be better if multiboot kernel. But that is compatible with GB / ICS / JB (as Turbo kernel) .. or just GB / JB if possible .. then you could use (GB) rom gaming, and (JB) and cell rom .. hehe
In my case I prefer a non-multiboot kernel, because I think that the compatibility would be better and I also would like to be able to record in 720p. I can also understand people who wants a multiboot kernel, because is a useful thing, but as I don't use it to much I prefer it not to be multiboot

i find hard to have a fully 4.2.2 rom/kernel working for play (touchpads/gamepads included)..we simply dont have that many devs working here..they move on to other new xperia 2013 series..so we gonna be at 4.1.2 and its good as we have many roms with all features for our phone..(touchpads still lag on JB ,but i use 99%gamepads so for me its fine JB roms).
a dedicated kernel its always better for hard gamers..performance is the main reason..on JB i prefer multiboot..different partitions, other roms (GB,ICS,CM9) we have the top of the kernels..altough is highly recommended you have a class10 sd card..or else you gonna be hurting performance.:good:
