Many questions are asked on this and many new threads are opened just asking how to root. I hope this thread can consolidate all the information and questions to increase user experience.
Edit: A new method has been found here: http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?/top...3.4/-4.5.621-(does-not-require-Milestone-SBF)
However, you can still use the method below.
Warning: The information in this thread is not mine and was not created by me.
To begin, .621 has been a tough nut to crack. The update was released and crippled every method of rooting to date. It was not until it was discovered that the .604 SBF file from the Milestone X could successfully be flashed, opening up a new possibility for root. However, flashing this SBF file posed an issue, as it overwrites the Droid X's radio files, crippling cellular and data connections. So a solution was came up with to use the SBF Flash tool to flash the file from a Linux environment.
After reading all this, you may be a bit worried, but don't be, it's rather easy! :cyclops:
COLOR="Red"]Warning: Performing this operation will wipe all data from your device, excluding data on the sdcard[/COLOR]
Requirements:
Droid X on .621
Blank CD / DVD
Patience
Step 1: Download the "1kds .604 live cd', which can be found in this thread:
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html
It is labeled "1KDStaz_MX_4.5.604.iso".
The thread gives more information, as well as instructions for Mac users.
Note: This live CD contains the .604 SBF file as well as the ZergRush rooting method that will root your newly flashed .604 device.
Step 2: Burn the iso image to a blank CD.
Note: Windows 7 has a built-in image burning utility; however, you can use the utility of your choice.

}
Step 3: After the image is finished burning to the disc, insert the disc into your CD/DVD drive.
Step 4: Reboot your computer. Most computers will automatically boot from the disc, but on some you may have to press a button (F2 / F12) when your computer is at the BIOS screen, so it will boot from the disc.
Step 5: Go ahead and place your Droid X into bootloader mode by holding both volume buttons down and tapping the power button.
Step 6: Connect the device to the computer, the device should show "USB Connected. Ready To Program". Select option 1 to SBF the device to .604.
Step 7: Once the device is finished SBFing, shut the device off and enter recovery mode by holding Power and Home and pressing both volume buttons. Navigate down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and use the power button to select. Reboot the device.
Step 8: When the device is booted, reconnect it to the computer, and select option 2 to root. It should only take a few minutes, and you have successfully rooted your .621 device!
Note: This thread isn't complete. I will be updating it later with a list of roms that can be flashed, as well as images to go with the steps, and adding a credits section to the bottom of the post.
Hit that thanks button if I helped you!

I had to z4 after going through this stuff, but over all it worked wonderfully on this Droid X M8810, it was exceptionally easy, also used adb to install the z4
Stuck on step 4. Im using my HP G42, I had to restart in order to reboot but once I got to the start up menu f2 is systems diagnostics, no F12. F9 is boot device options, F10 is BIOS setup. Can i use one of these or would it be a better idea to try again on a desktop?

F9 to access your boot options then select "Boot from CD", or something along those lines.

Really? I didn't think that z4 worked on anything after FroYo. That is interesting

Zergrush V4 is what's built into the 1KDS ISO. Guess that's what he's calling Z4, because yeah, the old Z4 was for Froyo.

There is a new method that directly roots .621, without flashing software from another phone. It works for the Droid 2, Droid X, D2G, and DX2.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31737-possible-root-method-for-droidx-on-621-reported-working/
or on this forum at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29977150#post29977150
Is there a way to undo sbf flash and unroot my phone and do the direct flash
nevermind google found it finally lol
it bricked my phone still looking for a way to flash my phone back to droid x had to flasf back to milestone
If you really want to do that you'll need to SBF .621 using RSD Lite. If that's what you tried and bootlooped, it usually requires a factory reset after the SBF for the phone to boot.
If you flashed the .621 kernel back to the phone after going the Milestone route there's really nothing to gain by reverting and then using the direct root method.

If you are here the odds are you are looking to take your Verzion Galaxy Tab back to the default setup for one reason or another.
Here are the steps you will need to take.
First let's make sure you have all the files and things are set up for this.
Hemdall
Download Heimdall from HERE, this is the program you are going to use to flash the needed files to your Galaxy Tab. I am putting the version I use on my sever just in case.
But here is a link to the developers page so you can download the original if you want.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
You will also need *Microsoft C++ This also needs installed on your machine because it has .dll files Heimdall uses. (I use Windows 7 and did not need to install this [I think])
Now you will need to install the drivers the is also needed for Heimdall. unzip heimdall and go into the drivers folder where you will see zadig.exe. Run this.
At the top you see options. Click "list all devices"
Then in the dropdown select Android USB composite device (or whatever it says). (NOT*mass*storage)
Click start and let heimdall download/install the drivers.
Files You Are Going To Flash To Your Tab
HERE is where you *are going to download the files needed to flash to you tab.* There are four files in total.
DOWNLOAD
cache.rfs
param.lfs
system.rfs
zImage
Ok, Let's get to flashing over the files and getting your tab back to normal.
1: Connect your tab to your PC
2: Launch your tab into download as it is already connected to your PC.*(Do this by holding the volume down and pushing the power button)
3: Go in to the folder " heimdall" and start " heimdall-frontend.exe"
4: Set up the files you are about to flash to the tab in side of heimdall.* It should look something like this.
THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART!!!!!! DO NOT SCREW THIS UP - -* I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE!!
DO NOT EVER EVER EVER PUT ANYTHING IN ANY OTHER LOCATION. THESE ARE THE ONLY FILES YOU NEED.
zImage goes in both the Kernel AND Recovery slot.
system.rfs goes in Factoryfs
Param.lfs goes in Param.lfs
cache goes in the cache slot.

}
5: After you have the files in place click start to flash. ALWAYS make sure your battery is sufficiently charged or you will have MAJOR problems. (I had to push start a few times.)
After this runs you will more than likely boot loop. Power down, wait a few seconds and hold power and up volume to boot into recovery.*(NOTE, do not hold power too long, just long enough to turn it on, then continue holding up volume till you see recovery. WIPE DATA AND CACHE. Tab should boot.
Note, if heimdall fails at the very beginning, just try unplugging and turning off the tab, close, and relaunch heimdall. it will eventually start. sometimes you just need the right combo of plugging in launching the*program.
After this is should be just like you took it out of the box, other than still having root access.
Hope this helps!
Aslo, I did not do any of the work here other than test it out and retype what is on this site to make it available to those on XDA and if you read my blog.

Thanks,
I tried to make sure I typed it as good as I could so people like me (mess things up often) would be able to pull it off and host all files I use so that nothing will change.
But I would like someone to look it over and make sure I did not miss something. We are all human after all.
And if there needs to be any other images people can think of to help more people out I will be more than happy to add them.
I cannot find ANY tuts like this for flashing roms, recovery, ect. You, my newfound friend, are the first. We need more exactly like this.

This is great stuff. I messed up a bunch of junk on my VZ galaxy tab and would like to go back to stock. Question about this guide: I've converted to ext4. Can I still follow the steps in this tutorial to return to stock or is there anything else that I need to do first? Thanks very much!
This post made even a retard like me dangerous enough to want to try flashing. Bump for the ext4 answer

Took the plunge anyway. Seems to have worked. Great tutorial!
Had previously used Koush's bootstrapper from the market to convert the file systems to ext4. Later tried to install KhasMek Voodoo Plus v3 kernel on my VZW tab and it nuked it (prob cause I did something wrong). Using these instructions, I got back to stock. Now to boot strap again and try, try again!
Thanks for the guide

Last weekend I did this like 3 times in an hour.
Happy it is helping a few people out.

No, I tried a few times and did not have any luck. The only thing I am looking to customize with the Tab is really to have it over clocked a little.
I just got the Evo so after I am done setting that up and getting everything worked out I am going to try again.
But if I remember right when ever I run Koush's boot strapper the tab reboots and goes in to recover mode and starts to flash something. (I think, cant seem to remember 100% right now) . Then I get stuck on the Samsung screen..
At that point I am not able to boot back in to recovery mode to wipe anything, but I can boot in to download mode and restore the Tab.
I think I have to be missing something simple?
Got the bootstrapper from the market to work again on my VZW Galaxy Tab. Formatted the SD card and then tried it again...it worked great after that!

VZW Custom Kernel
So out of curiosity, is the Bootstrapper the only way to get a custom recovery set up for the Verizon tab? I used z4root and got the root access, but since then, I haven't had an opportunity to flash roms or kernels because of the lack of a custom recovery. Anybody think they could help ?

Nice, will this work over Gingerblur? Or should I back off to restored 1.8.3 stock first? Thanks seems like people will never give me an answer . I'd hate to have to reinstall everything backed up again.

Work in Gingerblur, you don't have to restored to 1.83 stock and it did not touch your data partition but always is good to have a backup of your data
As you stated you have gingerblur so some of your /system files are already been changed if you try to do an OTA it will not pass the file checking before it applied the OTA and run RSD route can wipe your data depending on the SBF (full or service)
I recommend you to flash RSD 1.83 "SERVICE" so it did not wipe your data and then run OTA directly from your phone

I'm assuming it worked, since it seems that the unlock worked now that i have "Unlocked" displayed at the red M screen.

!!This is NOT a boot up animation, it replaces the SAMSUNG logo BEFORE the animation, you will still have a boot up animation as seen in the youtube video!!
Alright, This has probably been covered for other phones or linked in threads when people asked, but I couldn't find a specific thread easily to do this 'mod'
I did it last night using a tutorial for the i9000 and it worked flawlessly.
For this tutorial it looks like you NEED to be on a Gingerbread Rom (or GB bootloaders), but i'd bet there are ways to do it for Froyo and god forbid Eclair...
Some things you will need:
Odin on your PC (I used Odin 1.61)
Working USB cable
Ability to boot into download mode!
GingerBread ROM (there are similar ways to do this for froyo)
Everything you need <<Download this!! Includes everything you need for this Modification, including Odin 1.82! Credit to connexion2005 for this Zip.
Optional:
Custom logo.jpg image (480x800, <100kb) the zip includes a few plus the one I installed on my phone! I can make custom versions of the one I used for my phone and add them to the .zip at request!!
!!!You can ALSO use this method if you upgraded to GB bootloaders and are still on Froyo!!!
Instructions (modified slightly from connexioon2005's)
Download the above .zip and extract everything into a folder of your choice.
ShutDown your phone and boot into Download mode (Hold 1 on the Slide-out KB and power)
Open ODIN (either 1.82 from the zip or your existing ODIN on your PC)
Connect your phone to the computer and make sure it shows up in a COM port in ODIN.
Make sure AutoReboot is selected and F.Reset time is NOT selected.
Under PDA, path to the "i9000_gb_param_LFS.tar" file in the folder you extracted the .zip to and click START. (This should run fairly quick and only push param.lfs in the 'working' box)
Your phone will reboot, keep it connected to the computer, but DO NOT mount the USB.
In the .zip file, there is a bunch of collected 'logos' to choose from; rename the one you want to use to logo.jpg. The 'logo.jpg' will be the one that is pushed to the phone and used during your boot up sequence.
After you have the logo.jpg that you need, you will run the "i9000_gb_boot_screen.bat" and this will push file to put the logo.jpg on your phone to be used as the boot splash. Follow the instructions (hit enter when asked, lol)
i!IMPORTANT!i Keep your screen active during this process, as SU will come up , asking for permissions! i!IMPORTANT!i
Reboot your phone and you should have your 'logo.jpg' where the Samsung splash was, followed by your sanim.zip (boot animation) and your phone will load.
Again, if you are going to use a custom image, it needs to be 480x800 and <100kb to work.
Some users of the i9000 reported a 'soft brick' where Odin hangs up, but all you need to do is reboot in Download, restart Odin and do it again, DO NOT WORRY!!
This process can be repeated as many times as you want, but you have to run the entire process again to replace your existing logo.jpg with a new one. you can't just run the .bat again because it will see the logo.jpg and say [FILE ALREADY EXISTS]
here is a video of my new boot up:
Dark Droid Designz Boot splash
I also added a crude (MS Paint) version of the dark droid splash without the text!

Roll Tide Roll!
Did Not Work
This Did Not Work For Me
I Think I Did The Process correctly
I have a Samsung Epic 4g on GingerBread 2.3.4 With SuperUser 3.0
I Use Odin3 1.8.5 With ClockWorkMod 3.1.01
I Made Sure I Met The Prerequisites
The Final Logo File Size Was 92 KB
I Booted To Download Mode And The Process Was A Success
Odin Did A Succesful Push
The Bat File Worked And I Gave it SU Permission
After That I Did A Reboot
The Result Was That No Image Showed Up And The Phone Wouldn't Boot
I Took The Battery Out And Put It Back In.
The Only Thing That Appeared Was The Charging Animation.
I Tried Booting Into ClockWork But Nothing.
Then I Took The Battery Out 2x More
After This, ClockWork Suddenly Appeared
I Was Pretty Happy And I Restored The System
* I Had Luckily Made A Nandroid The Same Day
I Rebooted The Phone And This Did Not Fix The Problem. There Was Still No . Image And The Phone Did Not Boot
I Repeated The Process And Got ClockWork To Start Again
I Did A Complete Restore.
I'm Still In Clockwork But I Realize That This Probably Won't Fix The Problem
I Don't Think ClockWork Messes With The Start Image Even Though It Is On The
Phone
Now I Realize That I Probably Have To Flash Something Through Odin.
I Have Read A Thread [How to] Restore a semi-bricked Epic or Bring it back from the brink! That Says
This has worked on numerous phone that have partition issues, intermittent booting issues, and many other file system issues. This also fixes the Samsung Logo disappearing from boot.

But Now I'm Scared Of Going Out Of ClockWork And Having A Bricked Phone
So
* Is There A Way To Boot Into Download Mode From ClockWork
* And Is Flashing In Odin The Solution
P.S.
I Can't Go To Sprint Because A Few Months Ago I Moved Out Of The Country And They Don't Sprint Here (They Don't Even Have My Phone Here)
Edit: Was Able To Go Into Download Mode And Restore To Stock
Hi! I have a huge problem. A couple of days ago I decided to install a custom ROM on my DEFY. I am a total rookie in this field, so I googled a little and got some information needed. I rooted my phone with One Click Root method. Then I installed 2ndInit and got an access to Custom Recovery. I downloaded CyanogenMod10, did a backup, wiped all my data and flashed CM10. Everything worked just fine and I was satisifed. But I forgot to do a copy of my contacts and some other stuff, so I decided to flash my backup back and store my contacts on sd card. I opened custom recovery and wiped all the data from the phone. Then I wanted to restore my backup, but my phone got somehow stuck or something and I had to reboot it. Now I cannot access custom recovery any more! When turn my phone on, I can only see Motorola logo. I can only get to so called Android recovery, where I can only wipe my data, and bootloader. So I tried the whole RDS Lite method, just as it was described here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828639
Everything seemed to work fine, but after getting to around 97% it looked like this:

So I am out of options right now and I have no idea, what to do now. Can anyone please help me? I searched the web and I can't possibly find anything! Please, I really need to fix this.

Hi, I am not an expert, but I will try to give you some recommendations. First of all e need to know what defy you have. Mb525 Defy or mb526 Defy+.
If you can to connect to RDS lite we are not in serious problem yet.
We need to found the correct SBF ROM.
Else take a look in "Guide all-in-one defy" in this community.

Before flashing an SBF file, it is recommended to wipe data and cache in the stock recovery. To get into the stock recovery, power off the phone, hold in the volume- button then also press and hold the power button. After a few seconds you should see a triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle, and a little green android guy below that. Then press the volume+ and volume- buttons at the same time, and a menu should appear. Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu, and the power button to select an option. Select "wipe data/factory reset" and also "wipe cache partition."
Then try flashing the sbf file in RSD Lite again. Make sure the phone battery is fully charged beforehand, and also make sure your PC won't go into hibernate or sleep mode during the flashing process.
*** Important: Your Warranty Is now Void. Always take a Nandroid backup. I am not responsible if you damage your phone or lose any data***
Hello everyone. I created this guide for the Canadian D852 since I didn’t find anything that was straight forward. Credit goes to all the developers who made it possible for us to keep using our beloved LG G3.
This is my first attempt to create and share a guide. I hope it will be useful to other users. If you find any error or have suggestions, please send me a message.
Download all the files before you begin. Do not forget to copy your ROM and GAPPS to your SDCARD before you install TWRP.
Go back to Lollipop using LGUP **Always use USB 2 port. It won't work with USB3**:
Download your kdz (d85220… not d85230). I downloaded mine from:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-d852-firmwares/
Follow these instructions (works with D852 don’t worry):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64624353&postcount=3
Choose the kdz from your provider. For example, I have an unlocked Fido phone but I want to use it with Bell. So I used the Bell 20k KDZ.
When selecting a file to flash, type *.* and press Enter in the filename for your .kdz to show up. If you do not, it will only show .tot.

}
Root your phone using this method:
Enable ADB debugging.
Unplug usb cable.
Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information and tap build number until you are presented with "You are now a developer".
Back to Settings screen.
In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging.
Connect usb cable.
Click OK when asked to allow USB debugging in android.
I use the root.bat method. If it doesn’t work go back to step 1 and try again.

Install TWRP using Autorec:
Copy the rom and GAPPS to your SDCARD before you install TWRP.
Download the file from here:
https://mega.nz/#F!rtI1naZT!LJIKUVpv8fYjrvhpykA4_A!2o433RBZ
Transfer the file to you internal or external SD card.
Head in to Settings -> General -> Security, then scroll down until you see Unknown sources. Tick the checkbox, then hit OK on the next prompt.
Install APK via the file manager.
Open App.
Grant root access.
Wait a few seconds while it does some backup.
Wait for prompt to say that it is ready to flash.
Click the button to Flash TWRP.
Wait for it to be done.
Phone will reboot into TWRP
Update TWRP to the latest version if you want.
Download and install Nougat rom. Tested with CrDroid v3.6 and open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano.

**I’m not sure if it’s necessary but I did it anyway** Flash Dene Hybrid Baseband via TWRP (don’t forget to wipe cache and dalvik after) if necessary (mobile data is unstable etc…).

That’s it! Enjoy Android Nougat!
N.B. That is the only way I was able to get a stable mobile data connection. Only flashing baseband did not work for me.
Thanks, barguin, for a very informative thread.
How is the battery life on this Nougat ROM? I will be switching from Fulmics MM, and my provider is Fido.
Battery is very good. I can do a full day easyly.
Regards!
@barguin: thanks for the quick response. Did you try Exposed for Nougat? I know that Exposed is frowned upon in the CrDroid thread, but there are a couple of modules I would like to try. Thanks.
I do not use exposed...sorry.
Thx
You saved my pitiful unrooted D852! Thxsm

Personally I had some problems with lg flash tool.
There is no need to enter download mode! LGUP will do it for you.
I read the heading in this thread and it said something about not downloading the D85230 file .. and my phone is D8530g as shown in the screenshot .. so is the D85220 file gonna damage my phone .... Sorry for the newbie question !
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Free mobile app
The D85220 file will not damage your phone. Instead, that file will install an older Android version on your phone, namely Lollipop (this step is required to gain root). You are currently on Android Marshmallow, and you will end up with Android Nougat if you complete all steps correctly. The procedure is meant to work like this, one step back, two steps forward.
The "20" or "30" in the file names (on that website hosting KDZs) have the following meaning:
"20" = it's a Lollipop file
"30" = it's a Marshmallow file
"40" = it's a Nougat file (I can only wish, there is no such Nougat file).
But seriously, the procedure requires more than a modicum of familiarity with flashing and with using various pieces of software. There is potential for bricking your phone.
No offense, but, judging from your question, I would suggest that you should enlist the help of a friend who is a bit more knowledgeable on this topic.
Guys .. Can I use the ROM on D855?! If not, so how to flash the ROM without getting any issues?!!
Thanks.
Do not flash the rom on the D855 it's only for the canadian variant.
Did this on my d852 and it's stuck booting on Oreo, Nougat, and stock Lollipop. Happened after I installed TWRP, any fixes?
edit: i think it was the roms.. got 3 bad ones i guess lol. fulmics worked.
Just an FYI, I followed the LGUP instruction for my Bell D852 but it was soft bricked, doing the flash using "refurbish" instead of "upgrade" did it for me and I was able to finish rooting my device!
How to root symphony i60.... please reply me
my phone no sound
I do not hear sound from my phone after installing CRDroid. the programs are working. YouTube is opening but I can not hear the sound of the media being played.
I do not hear the sound of the media played when I plug in the phone.
please help me.
Thanks alot man, this was super handy!
Edit: Seems I've got that problem where shutting the phone off bugs it and it won't turn back on unless you remove the battery and put it back in. It also resets the time. Kind of annoying. Seems to happen to some D852s after installing TWRP.
