[Q] Wifi Tethering in Unofficial CM9 ? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Hello how do u launch wifi tethering in this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542911 by locerra

I don't think its in the ROM yet? Under Wireless & Networks its absent under "more", at least for the SCH-i815.
That's where it would be for the P6800/P6810.

[Q] Wi-fi Hotspot

Will it connect to a portable Wi-Fi hotspot from your phone? Has anyone tested that feature yet?
If it has wifi it will. It doesnt matter where the wifi is coming from. Its still wifi.

OK, Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I think it matters what WIFI type you are doing. I have read that the KF will not support ad-hoc networks and some hotspots are set up this way. It will support Infrastructure Wifi.
From the specs list on Amazon, :
Wi-Fi Connectivity: Supports public and private Wi-Fi networks or hotspots that use 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, or enterprise networks with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication; does not support connecting to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) Wi-Fi networks.

Which is to say, no, it will not work with the many phone hot spots which produce ad-hoc networks.
I can confirm that you can use a phone as a hot spot and connect to the Fire. HTC EVO MUI rom... Have not tested others.
Works fine with portable hotspot on CM7.1 on Inspire
Works flawless with galaxy s2 sprint.

Actually somewhat had the same issue at home. At first it would connect to home wifi, then lose connectivity while all other wifi devices were fine..and worked flawlessly while tether. After reboot seemed to solve the issue, but was wondering if others were experience strange behavior like this?
So... does the KF work with Phones using Ad Hoc network-based apps from the market or only AP mode?
Works fine on my Optimus V

iOS tethering (As it is Ad-hoc) does not work.

That's why you use the "Personal Hotspot" of iOS which creates a Wi-Fi network. That's how I use my KF on the go.

How to stop N7 from disconnecting from WiFi hotspot?

Hey guys. I use my galaxy note as a hotspot for my nexus 7. But after about 10 minutes it disconnect from my note, anyone know why this happens?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
What app are you using on the note to tether?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Just going into setting and turning it on then finding it on my nexus 7 then connecting.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Sure it's not a problem with the Note and not with the Nexus 7? If it's a problem with the Nexus 7 you'd notice it dropping on your home WiFi too.
Yeah true that didn't think of that. Don't know where to start on my note either.

My razr was doing this. I used tasker to make a task that enables tethering and disable wifi sleep policy which worked.
Couldn't find wifi sleep settings anywhere else in settings.

Try tethering with Bluetooth instead of through WiFi? Not a fix, but it's a simple workaround.
I stopped using my Xperia S as a WiFi hotspot and just tether with Bluetooth. It's quicker (for me), I'm not broadcasting an SSID, and I don't have to worry about Chrome's preloading sucking up all my data because it's set to WiFi Only.

How do I get internet via Bluetooth ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
On my Xperia S it's Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Pair the two devices, enable Bluetooth tethering under "Tethering & portable hotspot", then connect from the Nexus 7 to the Note. You'll know you've done it right if the network in the Notifications on the Nexus 7 says "Bluetooth Tethered".

[Q] Best ROM for Blade as Wifi Hotspot only?

I own Blade II and I am not currently using it so I thought I could use it as Wifi HotSpot for my Gnex and nexus 7. I live in Poland and we have here carrier Aero2 which is providing free internet access, you are paying only for sim card around 6$ and you can use free 512Kbps internet, it only works on 900Mhz 3G towers but blade is supporting this frequency. I would like to use my Blade strictly as Wifi Modem only and I am wondering which is best ROM and Wifi Tethering software for such a use. I would like to have decent battery life and true wifi connection, not AD-HOC which is provided by play store apps. I tried to underclock CPU to around 300Mhz and I was ok with tether speed, but native wifi tethering in GingerBread is still battery hog. Is there any 3rd party software with non Ad-hoc hotspot and good battery consumption? Which is best rom for saving battery? Best thing would be modded android with modem feature only but i don't think there is anything like that. Thanks for help and greetings from Poland
Was wondering the same myself. Am planning to do the same at Christmas. Anyone got any tips?

I'm gonna answer in two parts
1. For good battery life and memorable performance but lacking in eye candy, Swedish Snow is a clear favorite
2. There's an app called Wifi Tether for root users. The default setup method is ad-hoc but can be switched to master from preferences
ZTE Blade | Asus Transformer TF300T
Just a quick update if anyone is interested.
This Christmas I spent almost 3 weeks using the ZTE blade as a wifi hotspot for two mobile phones and a Windows 7 laptop.
I used cyanogen 10 and wifi tether for root users.
I had it plugged into an 11,000 mAh external battery pack so we could use it when out and about.
It ran a bit hot occasionally and on a couple of days the phones kept disconnecting (solved by reboot).
Upload speeds seemed a bit slow but apart from that it worked a charm.
AW: [Q] Best ROM for Blade as Wifi Hotspot only?
I planned to do the same. I would prefer cm 7 underlocked and the wifi tethering oft cm7.

I think 320 is enough for tethering. What do you think?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I really haven't a clue, so any advice is appreciated. In any case, I find an external battery back more than adequate (when I do need to tether it is abroad in a cold climate, so I can keep it in a jacket).

Nexus 7 Tethering and Hotspot

Hello,
I have Nexus 7 3G version (4.3). and I want to setup WiFi hotspot so my other phone can connect and use the internet on nexus 7. But I could not find the tethering and portable hotspot.
Is there a way to make it run on nexus 7 ? Tried foxfi but my other phone just say " Obtaining IP address" and nothing happens.
If root is needed, can you point me to a site with detailed Instruction and what WiFi hotspot app should I install ?
What are my other options ?
Thanks and looking forward for your reply.

Same issue on my Samsung S4

No other issue

It was only recently that it was also confirmed to affect galaxys2-common family devices - HOPEFULLY the fix is the same.
(I do not own any smdk4412 devices capable of tethering, so I'm unable to work on any tethering issues with those devices directly)
