Same issue on my Samsung S4

I have only this issue in omni
No other issue

It was only recently that it was also confirmed to affect galaxys2-common family devices - HOPEFULLY the fix is the same.
(I do not own any smdk4412 devices capable of tethering, so I'm unable to work on any tethering issues with those devices directly)

How to stop N7 from disconnecting from WiFi hotspot?

Hey guys. I use my galaxy note as a hotspot for my nexus 7. But after about 10 minutes it disconnect from my note, anyone know why this happens?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
What app are you using on the note to tether?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Just going into setting and turning it on then finding it on my nexus 7 then connecting.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Sure it's not a problem with the Note and not with the Nexus 7? If it's a problem with the Nexus 7 you'd notice it dropping on your home WiFi too.
Yeah true that didn't think of that. Don't know where to start on my note either.

My razr was doing this. I used tasker to make a task that enables tethering and disable wifi sleep policy which worked.
Couldn't find wifi sleep settings anywhere else in settings.

Try tethering with Bluetooth instead of through WiFi? Not a fix, but it's a simple workaround.
I stopped using my Xperia S as a WiFi hotspot and just tether with Bluetooth. It's quicker (for me), I'm not broadcasting an SSID, and I don't have to worry about Chrome's preloading sucking up all my data because it's set to WiFi Only.

How do I get internet via Bluetooth ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
On my Xperia S it's Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Pair the two devices, enable Bluetooth tethering under "Tethering & portable hotspot", then connect from the Nexus 7 to the Note. You'll know you've done it right if the network in the Notifications on the Nexus 7 says "Bluetooth Tethered".

What apps are you using to tether your N7

Alright so currently I am using my phone very so often to tether my N7 when I have poor WiFi at school or work. I have an HTC Inspire 4G running Jelly Bean and using an app called SVTP which turns my phone into a WiFi hotspot. Works well, the only problem is it eats up my battery in the course of about 2 hours. Now I've heard that tethering via Bluetooth is more battery friendly for both devices. Is this true? If so what apps do you recommend?

Yes, it's true. BT tethering is way more battery friendly than any other method.

Does using BT reduce the over heating? As OP asked, what app do you use?
I use the default mobile hot spot app on my HTC Sensation 4G. I would recommend foxfi because it gives you the option for both wifi hot spot and bluetooth hot spot.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
I just use the BT tethering built in on my CM9 ICS based ROM.
For me its:
1) Pair using BT
2) Go into Phone > System Settings > Tethering & Portable Hotspot > Check "Share Internet Connection" under BT
3) Go to Tablet > System Settings > Bluetooth > Options of paired phone > Use for internet connection
extremely awesome app- NFC hotspot free. Gnex to N7 tether.
Perhaps I should also mention I have At&t with an unlimited data plan, but no tethering plan. I say that only because neither approach stated above works. Foxfi will not download. "App is not available with your carrier." And the Bluetooth in the settings also failed.

Side load it then. Foxfi has a proxy setting built in (add on app), perfect from users like you've. The problem I have with foxfi is there's only one security setting and there's no way to disable ssid Broadcastng.
So just side loaded Foxfi and its working perfectly. I think it is even faster than the WiFi hotspot. Now I do have a question. At what point do you think At&t might catch on to me if at all? I only ask because I've heard some horror stories about tethering without a plan.

wouldn't using Bluetooth tether @ home from your phone using the wifi allow the tablet to have better battery life while the n7's wifi is turned off.
P.S
Juice Defender +Bluetooth tether lets my tablet go 3 or 5 days not having to charge. Mind u i use it to read @ ngt with the screen dimmed and the Facebook app removed(using only www mobile version.) I have to charge my phone more though.
I use WiFi Tether 3.2 pre-1 with my Droid X CM7. Works great in a pinch. Used it while going up north this weekend to cache some google maps before wireless coverage was gone. I have the unlimited plan still but I would never use it to stream movies or things like that. VZW could catch on.

[Q] Wifi tether apps

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an app or a way that I can use my vzw galaxy Nexus to tether my nexus 10. I've used my gnex to tether a Xoom and other phones but can't get it to work with the 10. Btw, both are rooted.
Any one have any suggestions?
Have you tried wifi tether? What are you using to tether atm thats not working on N10?

I use both wifi tether and foxi fi neither one are working. They work with my lap top and foxifi used to work with the xoom.
Two thoughts
1. Make sure you Nexus in not set to 5gh WiFi only and see if that helps.
2. Isn't Verizon tethering now free? I don't use Verizon so I am not 100 percent sure. If I am right check and see if it works with their app.
Good luck.

Tether stopped working

I got the nexus Monday and put in cyanogen mod now when I tether I'm getting the up sell page for hotspot any ideas?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That's because you didn't buy the hotspot feature for your phone. The page will continue to pop up to tell you to add and pay for the feature to continue tethering.

Poppycock. OP, just get Firefox and get the extension that allows you to change your user agent. Once tmobile sees a mobile device they will allow tethering.
Google is your friend.

What are you trying to accomplish by tethering or making it a WiFi hotspot? There would be no data connection to share.

I am trying to use it as WiFi extender
Nexus 7 connected to WiFi router
And PC is on different room where signals are weak so making WiFi hotspot can help in extending WiFi signal

I don't believe you can have a WiFi connection and access point on at the same time with android. Windows 7 has the miniport driver that allows this, but I think it requires certain hardware features built in that android devices might not have. I've heard this question asked a lot but no solutions.

There are several apps in the Play Store that do USB tethering. I don't know if they can get data from WiFi though. Search for USB tethering and try some.

EasyTether works with the nexus 7 but I'm using linux on my laptop so can't vouch for windows. However, it should work if you follow their directions.
