[Q] Wifi tether apps - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an app or a way that I can use my vzw galaxy Nexus to tether my nexus 10. I've used my gnex to tether a Xoom and other phones but can't get it to work with the 10. Btw, both are rooted.
Any one have any suggestions?

Have you tried wifi tether? What are you using to tether atm thats not working on N10?

I use both wifi tether and foxi fi neither one are working. They work with my lap top and foxifi used to work with the xoom.

Two thoughts
1. Make sure you Nexus in not set to 5gh WiFi only and see if that helps.
2. Isn't Verizon tethering now free? I don't use Verizon so I am not 100 percent sure. If I am right check and see if it works with their app.
Good luck.

Tether N10 to phone via Bluetooth?

So when out of WiFi area I've previously just tethered my old tablet to my phone and used the phones data connection via the dial up networking profile. I can't for the life of me figure how to do this on the N10. Any ideas?

I can't answer your question, but why not just use the wifi hotspot?
Unless of course you are using a phone that does not have that feature ...

Fair question. Two reasons really, 1) some Telco providers and/or devices don't support it, and 2) it usually doesn't work internationally whereas tethering using DUN does.

It could be a feature not enabled in your plan. I would check there first
It's not part of my plan. I'm trying to do it "on the sly".
I was hoping I could get Wi-Fi tether to make the Nexus 4 appear as an access point, and not ad-hoc, but I haven't been able to get it to do that. Anyone else had luck?

Can anyone help?? I've looked everywhere. I can connect to the hotspot, just not to the internet. Same thing happens with the hotspot on my Galaxy Tab. Both are with ATT.

AT&T actively blocks teather if you don't pay for it. Not sure of a work around as they are blocking it from there end not the phones end. That said some of the thethering apps claim to be able to defeat this, the one Koush made, clockworkmod tether, comes to mind but it only has a 14 day free trial, $4.99 after that. It also requires a desktop client to be installed. Also is this plain AT&T or Straight Talk AT&T? Straight Talk limits you to 100 MB of data per day with a 2 GB cap. If you go over either they throttle you to 2G speeds for the rest of the month.
Regular ATT, not straight talk. Looks like the clockworkmod tether is usb only.....
Try WiFi tether for android.

[Q] Tethering to 3GS via Bluetooth

Hi all,
I'm currently having some trouble getting my iPhone 3GS and Nexus 7 to play nice with sharing the internet connection from the 3GS to the N7.
The devices seem to pair up ok, and the 3GS is showing that the Personal Hotspot is being shared with 1 Connection, but there isn't any internet activity going through to the N7.
I thought it might have been related to the bluetooth issues in 4.2, but 4.2.2 hasn't made a difference. I've tried any number of tutorials/forums saying to connect things in a particular order or force stopping a service and clearing the cache, but nothing seems to work.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Nexus 7 Settings:
Stock 4.2.2 Unrooted
Connected to device for internet access - checked
Wifi Off
Bluetooth On
iPhone Settings:
iOS 6.1 Not JB
Personal Hotspot turned on
Wifi Off
Bluetooth On
Cheers.
I know what the problem is.

Have given the JB and MyWi route a go. Same story unfortunately.
The N7 and 3GS pair fine and MyWi reports that there is one client connected, but then there's no throughput to the N7 :crying:
Dropped mywi, now using either pdanet or tetherme .
They are both a lot cheaper than mywi and work perfectly, especially setting pdanet to wifitether then as soon as your nexus leaves your main home WiFi it instantly switches to the I phones tether via WiFi not Bluetooth.
Must admit though my 3g usage is getting hammered, luckily I have lots

Trying to tether via Bluetooth, with a DROID RAZR Maxx and the Nexus 7. I have root access on the Maxx, I don't think I'll need it on the Nexus but will if need be. The only successful thing I found that works part of the time is PDAnet+ and the receiving version on my tablet. I don't know if I trust that set up enough to pay to use it though. Free options? I've tried Wireless Tether for root users but haven't found Bluetooth tether access for tablets.

He's trying to tether his phones connection like in a incognito mode so T-Mobile can't notice it. They will just think he's using regular data.

no. you can try playing with the user agent, but theyll probably still see you. sometimes they wont even try to stop you, other times they are very strict. as of lately, theyre pretty diigent about stopping tethering if you dont pay for it.
I was on Tmos Value Plan (no tethering) and received several text messages about needing to add mobile hotspot before they blocked access to Internet Explorer via tethering (although could do anything else on my Windows 7 laptop)
Called support and they switched me to simple Choice while keeping my current contract term intact to avoid a migration fee. I haven't hit the 500MB tethering mark (I'm on the unlimited data plan) accordingly to data usage stats in Android so well see if they can truly track my hotspot usage (T-mobile says they can but I know it's not possible on the Nexus 4)

this is not true. they can. you are using their network, they know all about you, and what you are doing on their network. all your data is going through their network. all the information about your device, what its doing, all its identifiers, are being watched by tmobile. otherwise, they wouldnt let you onto their network. what makes you think that they cant track a nexus 4??

On most current t-mobile branded phones tethering is done via a proprietary hotspot app that tells t-mobile you are tethering, checks to see if your account can do mobile hotspot, and how much tethering data is being used. Nexus devices do not do this and therefore t-mobile only knows about tethering via useragent strings.
Also I checked my account online and T-mobile has nothing set up there to tell unlimited data users how much of their 500mb hotspot data cap they've used. If the network was able to track that wouldn't they show it in usage stats?

Wifi tether for rooted users

Has anyone got this apk to work for the note 3? Is It Possible? I just want a tether apk that tells me the amount of data that's being used and this one is the only one I know of that does that correctly.

Which one? I can only get the native to work on my note three bypassing it with the hotspot toggle switch widget found on the market, but I rather use the a different one like open garden. but I have no luck making it work.

I found you can use wifi tether in native tether mode, but it resets the hot spot settings to default every time you turn it on. I, too, would like it to work properly because I like seeing how much data I use and the network speed.

Is there any risk in using native tether app? I am coming from tmobile, where they'd hassle you to get a tethering plan.
