Nexus 7 Tethering and Hotspot - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have Nexus 7 3G version (4.3). and I want to setup WiFi hotspot so my other phone can connect and use the internet on nexus 7. But I could not find the tethering and portable hotspot.
Is there a way to make it run on nexus 7 ? Tried foxfi but my other phone just say " Obtaining IP address" and nothing happens.
If root is needed, can you point me to a site with detailed Instruction and what WiFi hotspot app should I install ?
What are my other options ?
Thanks and looking forward for your reply.

How to stop N7 from disconnecting from WiFi hotspot?

Hey guys. I use my galaxy note as a hotspot for my nexus 7. But after about 10 minutes it disconnect from my note, anyone know why this happens?

What app are you using on the note to tether?

Just going into setting and turning it on then finding it on my nexus 7 then connecting.

Sure it's not a problem with the Note and not with the Nexus 7? If it's a problem with the Nexus 7 you'd notice it dropping on your home WiFi too.
Yeah true that didn't think of that. Don't know where to start on my note either.

My razr was doing this. I used tasker to make a task that enables tethering and disable wifi sleep policy which worked.
Couldn't find wifi sleep settings anywhere else in settings.

Try tethering with Bluetooth instead of through WiFi? Not a fix, but it's a simple workaround.
I stopped using my Xperia S as a WiFi hotspot and just tether with Bluetooth. It's quicker (for me), I'm not broadcasting an SSID, and I don't have to worry about Chrome's preloading sucking up all my data because it's set to WiFi Only.

How do I get internet via Bluetooth ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
On my Xperia S it's Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Pair the two devices, enable Bluetooth tethering under "Tethering & portable hotspot", then connect from the Nexus 7 to the Note. You'll know you've done it right if the network in the Notifications on the Nexus 7 says "Bluetooth Tethered".

Anybody using Nexus S on AT&T to tether Nexus 7?

I pair my Nexus S to my Nexus 7 via Bluetooth. On Nexus S, in the tethering settings sections, I have ""Bluetooth tethering" checked. On Nexus 7, I have the box checked for using the Nexus S's internet connection.
Although the devices pair just fine, the Nexus 7 does not get an internet connection from the Nexus S.
Both devices are stock/unrooted.
Any advice? Anybody else successfully using a stock unrooted Nexus S on AT&T to bluetooth tether a Nexus 7?
Thanks.
On your Nexus S in settings, go to Tethering and Hotspots, and check Bluetooth Tethering. Then on your Nexus 7, in Bluetooth, go to the Nexus S setting/menu, and recheck Internet Sharing Connection. That works for me.

Nexus 4 Mobile Hotspot Help?

Hi, I have the unlocked Google Nexus 4,
and I am using it on T-mobile.
I did not get it from Tmobile, but on the Google Play Store.
And, is there an any way to activate the hotspot for nexus 4?
tried the hotspot apps in the Play Store, rooted and unrooted ones, but nothing worked.
I tried out the stuff thats built into the phone, but it gets connected, but no internet.
does it lead you to a tmobile page? or it just wouldn't connect? have you try to connect with other devices?
Don't know what to tell you, I use the hotspot that is provided with the OS and it works fine for me. Does your computer connect to the phone and not the internet, or will it not even recognize the hotspot?

Are you trying to connect to a hotspot or creating a hotspot? I didnt quite understand...

What are you trying to accomplish by tethering or making it a WiFi hotspot? There would be no data connection to share.

I don't believe you can have a WiFi connection and access point on at the same time with android. Windows 7 has the miniport driver that allows this, but I think it requires certain hardware features built in that android devices might not have. I've heard this question asked a lot but no solutions.

There are several apps in the Play Store that do USB tethering. I don't know if they can get data from WiFi though. Search for USB tethering and try some.

EasyTether works with the nexus 7 but I'm using linux on my laptop so can't vouch for windows. However, it should work if you follow their directions.

[Q] Tethering to 3GS via Bluetooth

Hi all,
I'm currently having some trouble getting my iPhone 3GS and Nexus 7 to play nice with sharing the internet connection from the 3GS to the N7.
The devices seem to pair up ok, and the 3GS is showing that the Personal Hotspot is being shared with 1 Connection, but there isn't any internet activity going through to the N7.
I thought it might have been related to the bluetooth issues in 4.2, but 4.2.2 hasn't made a difference. I've tried any number of tutorials/forums saying to connect things in a particular order or force stopping a service and clearing the cache, but nothing seems to work.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Nexus 7 Settings:
Stock 4.2.2 Unrooted
Connected to device for internet access - checked
Wifi Off
Bluetooth On
iPhone Settings:
iOS 6.1 Not JB
Personal Hotspot turned on
Wifi Off
Bluetooth On
Cheers.
I know what the problem is.

Have given the JB and MyWi route a go. Same story unfortunately.
The N7 and 3GS pair fine and MyWi reports that there is one client connected, but then there's no throughput to the N7 :crying:
Dropped mywi, now using either pdanet or tetherme .
They are both a lot cheaper than mywi and work perfectly, especially setting pdanet to wifitether then as soon as your nexus leaves your main home WiFi it instantly switches to the I phones tether via WiFi not Bluetooth.
Must admit though my 3g usage is getting hammered, luckily I have lots

Trying to tether via Bluetooth, with a DROID RAZR Maxx and the Nexus 7. I have root access on the Maxx, I don't think I'll need it on the Nexus but will if need be. The only successful thing I found that works part of the time is PDAnet+ and the receiving version on my tablet. I don't know if I trust that set up enough to pay to use it though. Free options? I've tried Wireless Tether for root users but haven't found Bluetooth tether access for tablets.
