Wanted Atrix 4G user to test Open GL PSX emulator

Hi,
I need someone to test a Beta app for me. I am looking for someone with an Atrix 4G that is rooted so they can install non-market apps.
You will also need to be familiar with how PSX4droid and FPSE work.
I have 3 builds of Psx4droid from Zodttd which I have been testing for several months that utilize Open GL (Hardware acceleration) These cannot be found on the market. I will also ask that you do not distribute the files.
Open GL improves a lot of things for me on my phone but it is a N1 and rather slow compared to an Atrix. Though the beta improve somethings it seems like Open GL will have errors in it's current state on single core phones.
I want someone to test this on a few different games and give me their results. I would test it myself but I am on Tmobile
I am sure many have a negative idea of PSX4droid here and I would ask you to put that aside for now. I also enjoy FPSE myself but feel PSX4droid has its pluses including anti aliasing, a better user interface and partial CDDA support among others. If open GL works the way I hope on dual core phones it could mean an emulator with near perfect compatibility and speed with much better graphics quality than FPSE.
Please contact me here if you are interested and willing and we can chat about it some more.
Games that even on my outdated phone which improved dramatically:
Tekken 3 is full speed
Front Mission 3 has no crashes anymore
Thousand Arms starts perfectly now
Tomb Raider 1 and 2 work partially but still have issues on my phone but I suspect better performance on dual core phones
I have noticed that I can get all games to start now just some have graphical bugs or my phone's processor is too slow. Zodttd mentioned he had better results on his Samsung Galaxy S but he is on a break for the time being and I am not sure when he will complete the development of this build...which is a shame cause I think Open GL is a huge step
Not familiar with PSX4droid, but I learn quick. And I'll help if it doesn't involve resetting or unrooting my phone.
sent you a PM with my contact
Sure, I can take a peek. It ought to be interesting to see how it compares.
I would love to test as well. Send me a pm

Specific games I am looking for
Update:
I have a few testers already but can still use more. Particularly people who have used the app in the past and are willing to test the following games for me:
Brave Fencer Musashi
Breath of Fire 3 and 4
Bushido Blade 1 and 2
Castelvania Symphony of the night
Chrono Cross
Dino Crisis 1 and 2
Dragon Warrior 7
Ehrgeiz
FF7-FF9
Final Fantasy Tactics
Grandia
Gran Turismo 1+2
Jad3e Cocoon
Hot Shots Golf
Lunar 1 and 2
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Slug X
Resident Evil 1-3
Rival Schools
Tekken 3
Tenchu
Vagrant Story
Twisted metal 1-3
Valkryie Profile
Xenogears
those are the top priority to compare results on dual core phones like the atrix so if you have one that can side load apps (root or not) please email me if you have access to these games and know how to test them on Psx4droid or even if you are just willing to learn
I would gladly help. Atrix 4g that is rooted and ready for testing
I would gladly help with metal slug X and maybe GT 1 and 2 if I can find my discs still.
I am also willing to help, never used psx4droid, but I have been using psx emulators on other devices for years
I am also willing to test, I have a few of those games

Any update on this?
My difficulty is that I tried both fpse and psx4droid and both don't seem to work on my (rooted) Atrix.
Upon starting an iso / bin, psx4droid (3.0.5 and other versions) gives me the controls and immidiately goes back to the menu, whereas fpse gives me the playstation intro and goes back to menu as well.
Is there any trick how to configure these programs?
Thanks.

This Tablet is Amazing!

First of all I'm sorry if you regard my thread as just filling up the general forum. But I wanted to counter my experience thus far with the TF to those that are bashing it.
I sold my ipad 1 to buy the TF
This OS is definitely in beta; however I'm impressed with how fluid everything is including menus and screen transitions and the Widgets that are available. I've had almost no issues other than some light bleed and a backlight bug.
Thumb keyboard is so awesome on here and I enjoy it much better than my ipad.
Gaming on this is a treat; there is something truly amazing about pulling a portable N64 or PSX out of my bag and gaming with a WiiMote. Not to mention FF1 with a gba emulator. This doesn't account for the android games available in the market either including monster madness and Riptide GP that I'm loving right now. Oh and the flashed based kongregate arcade with its 400+ flash games.
Browsing the web is beautiful; putting this beast in portrait and viewing a webpage is amazing. Browsing for something to buy on amazon or Google shopping is awesome when I can view such a long list of the products. Flash is something that I have unknowingly been missing and is now rediscovered with my Transformer.
I have experienced a few force closes and 1 or 2 restarts but my device is rooted and running a custom rom and kernel and clocked at 1.4ghz.
Right now I'm on graveyard shift at work; the work computer goes into a deep freeze at midnight so I can't use it and we have no wifi. Solution? Tether my TF to my Droid X and watch Hulu or megavideo which are both silky smooth and beautiful on this screen.
Ipads are good devices but this thing is an outstanding device.
I'm a happy owner.

I've been patiently waiting until paychecks come in to be able to pick one of these lovelies up, teasing myself by reading here and there in the forums but I didn't realize I could connect a Wiimote as a controller for the emulators. I'm going to have to track down that thread soon, thanks for mentioning this possibility! Tuesday can't get here soon enough, hoping my local Fry's will still have one when I'm ready. Wooooo!
Don't feel sorry mate I've used the IPAD 1 & 2 the galaxy tab and the zoom....... this tablet is a clear champion over all of them......I love my tf a lot too
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, loving mine now that I've got one without lightbleed and dead pixels.
I'll have to take a look at overclocking at some point...... (or just wait until TF201 with the Tegra 3!)
I just sold my iPad 2 last night (For full price) because since I have had a Transformer, my iPad was never used.

Disuss your success in first person shooters

Recently I've been addicted to rainbow 6 multiplayer on my xperia play. I've noticed that I have a much easier time aiming and headshots then other players... Chances are they are gaming on a regular touchsphone, scrambling to aim at me but die before they can shoot.
At a record of 1887 to 817 deaths, it's safe to say because of the keypad advantage, I am better then other players. How are you guys coping with fps??? I was never good at fps but I get records like 100-26 with 42 kills being headshots
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
I would also like to add that I am extremely happy with this phone, for the simple fact that it's for gamers.. Casual or not the gamepad really enriches the experience... It's sad that sony releases this when they are struggling and don't promote or back it properly... If it was samsung that released it, I'm sure it will dominate the entire cellphone gaming market
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
Ya they definitely released it at the wrong time, or atleast should of worked more on the release games...but i think its a fantastic phone, the gamepad is beautiful, playing first person shooters against any touch screen players does put you a step ahead, i personal like nova 2 never really enjoyed the modern combat, felt really awkward to play. Probably the best part of the phone is being able to play ANY emulator on your phone at perfect speed with a proper gamepad, doesnt get much better than that! Personally loving the playstation emulator and snes! - Kes

Im very disapointed in the way gameloft have applied the right touch pad, all they have done is use it to emulate screen swipes, i dont understand why they cannot use it to emulate an analogue stick like they do with the left one! Like on battle bears

Faster? I don't find that. If the guy is behind you then you have to swipe a lot of times. By then you are as good as dead.

This.
Swipe look is rubbish. It's the one and only thing that ruins fps's enjoyability on the Xperia Play for me at the moment.
Unfortunately Gameloft is only FPS option at the moment. Just like the Ipad 2. They make all these grand promises of great games like Infinity blade yet there hasn’t been any games like it since.
Edit: Has anyone tried Modern Warfare 2?
You guys are screwed the new PSP is on its way and it stole all marketing from the play. Actually the play had a great buzz as far as the web goes but that's as far as it went.

You are right but I did buy the phone for more. I was hoping for PSP games like God Of War. If it doesn't get any more support I may switch back to my 3GS and give this one to my daughter to play games on.
Finally got around to playing Rainbow 6 (great that it was free!).
Seems like top fun online.
Went in blind, straight into multiplayer not know controls etc and managed 11 kills and 12 deaths on the Play. That might not seem good, but it's good for me in an FPS.
Also turned the horrid music off, made it feel a bit like Counterstrike...how good would that be on Android btw?
Can see myself playing Rainbow 6 a lot now.

The PSVita and the XPlay are two entirely different devices. The Xplay replaces your phone, ergo you have it on you at all time. It's not a gaming beast like the PSVita, but the battery lasts all day, you can do all your phone stuff on it, and when you are in the mood for games there are a myriad of choices and they all play awesome because you have physical buttons rather than just a touch screen.
The PSVita is great for places where you actually plan to bring it. Like flights, ferry rides, etc

I only bought the phone for emulators originally. I didnt even care about the playstation store. All i wanted to do was play some snes/megadrive/mame games on my telephone. You can not play these games on touchscreen only. Totally uncontrollable.
Didnt even know gameloft were porting to the xperia play. Got alot more than i bargained for. Some (Most?) Gameloft games are very awesome.
Being able to play mobile phone games and even browse the internet with the control pad is way better and more fun than any touch screen only on the market atm.

Tablet decisions

So i bought the ipad2 and returned after the obvious. After playing with the galaxy in the store, i decided it was way too laggy and that's when the transformer caught my eye. I hear that the lag has been fixed now I can't decide if that's the way i want to go. Anyone hear have experience with both and why did you go with the transformer besides the dock?
Thanks!

Yes, thanks! I am aware of the older posts but nothing recent with the newer firmware on either device so looking for someone with up-to-date knowledge.
I bought the TF because it's cheaper, it has a microSD option, it's easier to transfer files onto it from a PC/network, it has a better screen size for watching movies and reading comics.
The deciding factor for me was:
1. MicroSD card slot
2. $100 cheaper (Put it towards the dock)
Paid $100 less for a MicroSD card slot. That's a Win Win for me.
Its not quite as smooth and polished as the ipad 2 user experience, however the overall use of the device with the dock leaves the Ipad for dust.
Went transformer route instead of ipad as i have iPhone already and the openess of an android has always interested me. After rooting and putting custom roms and kernel on it never been happier. I went asus as ive never had a problem with the brand for computer parts. The dock was a huge bonus though. I keep having jealous ipad users trying out my transformer always puts a smile on my face when my android outperforms the ipad2 for what they try and do... also with the expansive storage options and dock inxlcreasing battery time its the perfect package for me
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I was in the same boat as you. All I kept reading was "What do you plan to use it for?" Well I want to use it for everything lol. My one freind recommended an Ipad, but I am used to the android platform so wanted to stay with that...
I was looking at the Xoom, and Galaxy 10.1 and then the Transformer Pad got thrown into the mix at the last minute. Slowly I started to see this can do everything! With the keyboard dock it has extra battery life, and usb connectors for all my thumbdrives. So I took the plunge with the Transformer tab.
After a week I couldn't be happier with my decision! The keyboard is priceless for me to type up and edit documents and it is a very solid build (at least for me). It is also a very solid build even connected to the dock. So far it fits everything i wanted it for. A fun piece of tech that I can be very productive with on the go.
iPad's are great tablets. I you can live in the Apple Ecosystem then they are the way to go and their built quality is very good.
If I did not need a keyboard and microD slot, the Galaxy tab would be my choice. The Transformer is not built as well as the Galaxy tab and is bigger and heavier, but IMHO is more versatile. I cannot imagine typing more than a paragraph or two on a tablet screen.

The lag issue is nothing to do with hardware, or even Android Honeycomb. It's a specific issue with the Webkit browser and the Asus Keyboard.
The best options is to just not use the built in browser, use Opera Mobile instead, it's WAY faster, with no lag and seems much more compatible with sites.
EDIT: It seems the latest release of HC3.2 that's on TW devices (and due on US and WW devices early next week) improves the stock browser and keyboard lag problem. Even so, I would still just use Opera...

the reason - honeycomb is dead at the moment - there are like 5 native apps and 10 games - but a few of them are any intresting for more than 5 minutes, apps for ipad are just stunning and there are plenty of them
so far Transformer is just quite expensive mobile browser and most threads are about issues and cursors, battery and changing ROMs which give no difference - nothing about great things you can download and work or have fun with - so mj528-consdier reverting your decision again
I got the Asus as an on-the-spot decision... I was in an HH Gregg store where they had one on display with the keyboard dock... before this day I thought tablets were just a joke, and a waste of money. Boy was I wrong- this thing has replaced 90% of the tasks I would ordinarily use my laptop for and gets 5x the battery life.
That said, my motivations for the Asus were mainly because of the keyboard dock. I did not know at first that the dock had a battery in it, and I was still convinced.
Currently running Prime! Rom v1.7, Clemsyn-Blades v7b OC Kernel... runs like a dream at 1.6 GHz. There was alot of lag with the stock browser so I went with Dolphin for Pad beta, but encountered too many FC's and reboots, so now I'm working with Opera Mobile.

What? .... If you like the iPad say you like the iPad. And most threads here are gonna be about bugs and customizations since this is a developers site. But saying the transformer is only good for browsing the internet and has 5 apps and 10 games is just untrue.
well - it always depends what you need it for - transformer is great if you are good with preinstalled apps and type a lot on keyboard
but it doesnt change the fact that nobody serious make apps for honeycomb, supporting hires etc
we just have accuweather, cnn and a couple more but not very astonishing to make other platforms jealous

Thats why I went for the ipad in the first place - the apps -. However, I soon found out that while having a ton of apps could be useful, I only used some myself. The only games I used are the popular ones, which are all on android, and I used it even more for music, browsing, video, word processing, which all work better on the transformer (mkvs with diceplayer without the need of jailbreaking (which ended up crashing my ipad), flac support out of the box, great android browser with flash, and ofc the keyboard).
It just depends if you are gonna need a ton of apps to keep you busy. For me the internet is enough entertainment as is. And if not, ill throw an emulator on there and enjoy a ton of quality games you cant get on the ipad.
Sorry, even if Apple has so many apps, Cooki3s is right in that you'll probably only use a couple of them total. When I first got my TF, I just started downloading apps like crazy. But after a while, you stop using that crap and go for just certain types of apps (office, browser, netflix, mylibrary). Also, what I love about the TF is the keyboard (which, if you aren't considering, then you might be better off with the iPad).

Well, the term "hard core" can go a lot of different ways. If by hard core you mean THD games or basically games that show off your tab's graphical prowess... you've got most of the top ones already. There are some nice older titles like Roboto HD that look great as well but aren't graphically as strong as games like Shadowgun or 9mm.
If you want games that look good and actually work like they're supposed to the ones I added are nice options; It really just depends on the type of games your looking for. I generally blow through 40-60 games a week and can put any others I find in the thread bsweetness suggested, thanks for that btw there were some there I haven't tried yet.
I picked up my tab 2 days after it dropped on-line, and my biggest gripe so far besides color depth has been lack of compatible games. There are a lot out there, but I was surprised at how many don't play nice with ICS or with tablets in general.
They like to tout the "power of gaming" with quad-core devices, but they don't talk about the lack of quality or compatible games do they...

Il add them to the list later on today...also hopefully when ics hits most of the phones they will update games to work with ICS and tegra 3
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
That's true. The One X and One S seem to be selling well, so one can only assume that better Tegra 3 support is coming. However, aside from the One phones, how many phones are being released with a Tegra 3 SoC? Well, at least those are selling well.

I downloaded galaxy on fire 2 THD and its definately not in HD, the graphics look absolutely gash. Is this just me being an idiot and downloading the wrong version or it not native 1280*800 resolution?
Also where did you get battlefield 2 from? Cant find it on play store.

it is not native resolution, you do get the screen resize option in the tray. My graphics are fine while in the ship flying. Not true HD, but certainly not gash.

Everything I've come across on the Tegra Zone app works great. Dungeon Defenders Second Wave, Riptide Gp, Sonic 4 Episode II, Siegecraft THD, etc......
