Stuck in Hboot with frozen keys - Desire HD General

i recently rebooted my Vodaphone AU and was presented with a hboot menu. i have tried to navigate up and down this menu but the screen is frozen so cannot select any of the options. i turned my phone off by removing battery as power button was also inactive. i then powered back up and straight to hboot screen again, again all buttons inactive so cannot navigate up and down or select. removed battery and sd card then tried again, this time holding down volume button whilst powering up. still i have no joy, phone will not let me navigate or selct in boot menu and everytime i power down and up it is the same scenario. this is the message i have above boot menu.

Please can you give advice how to fix this.

Try going into adb and see if you can reboot from there, not to sure.what to can do really
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium

Unfortunately it sounds like a hardware issue. Could be simply that the volume rocker is stuck or it has to be replaced.
Adb doesn't work in boot but fast boot does.
On my mothers old phone it would do the same and only way I could get it to boot was to run
Fastboot reboot
So you can try that but I would try carefully moving to volume rocker and see if stuck

[Q] Soft-bricked MT4G

I previously thought I had rooted and tried out a some custom ROMs. Decided to revert to a nandroid backup of stock I made before flashing but got errors and the phone hangs on 1st mytouch logo. S is off according to hboot screen, and I am able to get into fastboot and recovery (with CWM 2.5.1.2). I've tried using my nandroid backup and its gives an error: "E:format_root_device: can't find mmc partition "boot"". I've successfully rolled back from a custom ROM to stock before, So I'm not sure what happened. I have also tried having hboot flash PDIMG15 but when it begins it skips a bunch of folders, it gives me an error about E: , it says "FAILED (remote: not allowed)". Does that mean s is on somehow or root is screwed up? At this point I'm afriad I will have to go back to t-mob and buy a new phone . Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Did you go from cm6 to cm7?
Try flashing a cm6 rom, you cant use clockwork 2.5.12 for cm7 roms and you cant use cw3+ for cm6 roms.
Flash cm6 from recovery then update clockrom in rom manager. The boot in recovery and flash cm7

PDIMG15 should be foolproof.
Have you checked the file or your sd card for errors?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I agree that PDIMG should be foolproof. It may be your SD card. Try re-flashing recovery through fastboot, then reformatting your SD card. Then copy the PDIMG again with nothing else on the card and give that a shot. You could also try flashing CWM 3 and see if you can flash a 2.3 ROM.
phone replaced
I tried the sd card format method with a quick format and a normal and still no success. Maybe a bad sdcard. Either way walked into t-mob and naively said my phone doesn't work, got it replaced. (Only had it for 9 days) Since it was still within 14 they swapped it no questions asked really. Thanks for the help either way. I may just have to stick with stock sense for a while and just be content with launcher pro. I've been reading that the front facing camera doesn't work on a lot of custom roms anyway and my wife and I both got MT4gs so I like the video call feature enough to stick with it.
I too had the same problem, what I did was to use the Nandroid backup located here in the MT4G forums. I have that on my sd card and when all failsI revert back thru that nandroid backup. Try that and let me know how it goes.
**edit**
sorry did not read that you had returned it.

If her phone is not rooted and you arent trying to flash custom ROMs then it doesnt sound like s=off is going to help you.
Ive seen this happen as a hardware problem (probably from dropping the phone to much) and also software, somehow the boot file gets corrupt
If you cant get her phone to get passed the first tmobile boot screen i would suggest you try to reset the phone.
1. Turn the MyTouch 4G off. pull the battery and replace it.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button.
3. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds (while holding the volume down button) then release the power. Continue to hold Volume Down.
4. When you see the Android logo appear, you may then release Volume Down.
5. Now use the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight Factory reset.
6. Press the Power button to select.
She will lose all data stored on the phone (not the sd card, just the phone) however if the phone isnt turning on that data isnt much good anyways...

What do you mean by "wont go anywhere"? When you hold down volume and power you should get a screen with three androids on skateboards on the bottom of the screen. Near the middle of the screen there should be some options
Fastboot
Recovery
Factory Reset
Simlock
System Info
Image CRC
You should be able to use your volume buttons on the side of the phone to scroll up and down through that list. when you have the option you want highlighted (in this case factory reset) you can selected it by pressing the power button.
are you able to do that, or are you stuck somewhere else?
Please help out as well i have same problem but even after trying to factory reset it still goes into hboot screen. Problem is on a spare phone just need help asap. If you can help i can attach gmail or gtalk or something. Please help tho

what is the problem you are seeing? When you turn your phone on does it go right to hboot? does it boot up? does it freeze up at the first splash screen? does it freeze at boot animation? does it get to the boot animation then reboot?
When the power button is hit it goes right into hboot no options to let me go to home screen. I can access fastboot and hboot but i cannot get past these two at all i know the phone is not rooted. the volume keys are acting up a little bit and not letting me get anywhere. If you can help please PM me it would be greatly appreciated
Your volume keys are stuck (physically or electrically), specifically VolumeDown key, and that's the reason for the misbehavior. In any case, it's almost certainly a HW problem.
Thats what i've been thinking as well and tried seeing whats going on and it doesnt seem that there stuck have to pull some stuff apart in any case do you know how to fix this though and get it to boot?
If you don't have warranty - open the phone and fix/disconnect the volume buttons.
If you have warranty - send it for repairs.
It won't boot when VolDown is pressed, whatever you do.

Stuck at hboot fastboot

I'm not sure what happened to my friends phone but apparently it just resetted out of no where and is stuck in fastboot i think i forget which one... The one with less option.
the keys don't work.i can't click on any options with power nor move with arrow keys.
I thought I'll just load up the pd15img and it'll be good. But nope screen is stuck at fastboot without any changes.
It is s-off but 86 bootloader idk why it's not 85 but whatever.
I think it might be bricked. I'm going to see if adb detects it later tonight. If it can are there any ways to fix it?

Oh wow, noticed that my reply didn't go through.
anyways quick update. Fixed it. it wasn't the volume button. volume button would lead to hboot i think. this went straight to fastboot. I imagine it has something to do with his back button (was working, stopped working when this happened, i fixed it somehow idk)
but anyways for future reference if you get stuck at fastboot and you can't move it
Click HOME, this enables your keys
go to recovery and flash a rom.
oh i wanted to add, for some reason, his phone was like wiped clean. no os or rom. so i had to flash him a new one.

thanks, but the home button do not enable the buttons for me
This can be caused by a stuck VolumeDown button, and in this case the Home button won't help.
Hi,
I got the same problem with my HTC Desire Z, when I turn it on, it run on fastboot and no keys respond so I'm unable to boot the phone.
If I turn it on with Vol down button hold, the phone boot on the Hboot screen and the keys don't work on this screen too...
Unfortunately, this happen yesterday night... and since this yesterday morning, the home button of my device broke down... It sounds like I'm f**ked...
Is there a way to pass througt fastboot by using the adb ? (I'm not sure my device will be recognized byt adb on fastboot mode...)
Thanks

I've used the search function by looking for no keys responding on fastboot screen and that bring me here, in this case, nevermind the device, problem is the same.
It should be a stuck button, but I can access to fastboot or hboot depending on pressing the Vol Down button or not. Maybe the problem come from the not working center button of the Desire Z, I'll try it.

3. I was so happy that i fixed and then i switched on my phone. It took me to the Boot screen. Below are the contents showing on my screen.

To use the PD15 you need a goldcard. You have a Panache not a MT4G, so thats why you need a goldcard
Volume does nothing, its gonna turn on your phone.
What recovery do you have installed?
Are you HTC Dev Unlocked?
You dont look like you have the Enginerring Hboot installed?
Lastly, you posted in the wrong section

Thanks for the reply... It would be great if could let me know the path to post this question.
Also, I gone thru a forum in XDA and they asked to download the SimpleGoldCard tool. But i just formatted the memory card. after that i'm unable to getCID. This was because the phone was not able to be detected in my system. so the ADB was telling that "no devices found"..
pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee helppppppppppppppp meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.............

I know the panache was a mess too root
Do you have the drivers for your phone installed?

Bro.. I don't know anything about the stuffs you asked.
I looked at the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16858971&postcount=98
In 1st step it asks to enable USB debugging. But i'm unable to go inside my home screen at all.
So i skipped it and went to next - which is the GoldCard step. In that it asks to getCID, but my memory card is not getting detected when i placed it inside my phone.
So i dunno where to start and where to end.
I have installed the ADB and GoldCard tool. That's it. Couldn't go further after that..
I don't have a backup of panache drivers, did not backup anything from my phone.
Just replaced the touch screen glass and booted the phone.
I missed to tell one thing... few months back i unlocked my phone by giving it to a local technician. I dunno what unlock he did, but after that the "Mobilicity" doesn't show up when i boot up when the phone was working. So i was able to use other SIM card in my panache.
So please guide me where to start and how to get my phone work.
Thanks,

For adb to see your phone you need to check USB debugging.
Try going into boot loader
Then press recovery.
Tell me what happens

I'm unable to move to other options using the volume up or down.
I can only see the screen...
Aww man that sucks. I guess your hardware is messed too.
And adb can't see your phone either.
Try this in adb but it probably won't work
Adb reboot recovery
Hope it works

seeing some progress...
I connected my phone to my laptop.
Opened command prompt and went into the adb folder.
Typed in "adb reboot recovery" But it did not do anything.. it just said "no devices found".
Then i tried "fastboot reboot"... it restarted my phone and T-Mobile logo came up and it took me to the home screen, played some tutorial videos etc. But it kept saying "Safe Mode" at the bottom of the screen.
The buttons like "Home" "Back" etc did not work except the search button which took me to some voice search.
I guess something is happening... Hope you must be knowing on what it does
Please help me... I just want to see my phone back... not the T Mobile stuff...

Hi All,
I am seeking help from you guys to fix my mobile. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee................
I'm new to this forum. I have read some posts on rooting/unrooting/flashing etc. But i'm at no point what to do with my mobile.
Here is my problem.
1. My display/touch screen glass was broken a month ago. But the handset was working perfectly even touch sensitivity was good. only problem was the glass damaged so badly
2. I ordered for the display/touch screen glass. Then i went into the Youtube to see how to fix the glass. I did everything as they said in that and glass was fixed
3. I was so happy that i fixed and then i switched on my phone. It took me to the Boot screen. Below are the contents showing on my screen.
"GLACIER PVT SHIP S-OFF

<POWER> to select item
BOOTLOADER

REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN"
NOTE: << Here i'm unable to navigate to any other option using the volume buttons >>
I read the posts in xda and tried volume up + power. It vibrates three times and black screen shows up
I tried volume down + power button it opens up a boot screen with below messages
"GLACIER PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.89.0006

<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item

FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
even here i'm unable to navigate to other options using volume buttons.
i'm just stuck at this point.
so i went to xda forums and saw few techies telling to download PD15IMG.zip. so i did and placed in SD card (which is new SD card - 4GB. Just placed inside the sd card - no folders)
then i did switched on. It did wait for sometime in boot screen and searched for PD15DIAG.ZIP and went ot PD15IMG.zip which was found and started updating etc.
Then it asked to press power button, i did and then i landed again in boot screen where i'm unable navigate since nothing happens on volume button press.
I dunno what to do or whether i did is correct. :crying:
so please help me getting me fixed.
i want to see the android home scree soon with your help.
Thanks,
Shrrm.

Guess your problem might be the volume keys. Seems after replacing your screen, the volume down got stuck some how. Thats why whgen u boot up, it takes you right to bootloader mode. So try dismantling it and check the volume buttons that they are fixed correctly and that the are not pressed by the housing.

Hi ,
If you see my post, i was go inside the OS and able to see the home screen and see menus etc. I did use "fastboot reboot" command in the command prompt. I also tested the Volume Keys and i was able to adjust the volume. I played some default music and then adjusted the volume it was working properly.
Now i'm using the command prompt to boot into the OS using the "fastboot reboot" every time. I need to go inside the OS normally.
As a next step, i want to recover my HTC Panache to my old state or the new OS (i guess i can have a new android version in my HTC Panache since other users state that they had android 4.x )
Thanks,
Shrrm.
I enabled the USB Debugging, and tried "adb reboot recovery" from command prompt. It did restart the mobile and showed T-Mobile MyTouch logo and then it displayed a "Cell Phone symbol with a Red Triangle with Exclamation in it"

[Q] [LG Optimus e400] LG Logo on CWM Reboot Into Recovery

Used SuperOneClick 1.7 RageAgainstTheCage to root the phone.
Installed ROM Manager.
Downloaded "cm-9-20130929-NIGHTLY-e400.zip" from the CyanogenMod site.
Downloaded "gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip" from goo.im.
Put phone into USB file mode.
Transferred the .zip's onto the SD card.
Went into ROM Manager.
Selected "Install ROM from SD Card".
Selected the CM9 .zip.
Confirmed the reboot.
It reboots and only shows the LG logo and sits there forever.
Holding the power button reboots the phone and it's back like it was.
SuperUser is installed and ROM Manager has SuperUser permissions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you 're already installed cwm recorevy? if yes, then go to cwm recovery (home + vol- + power) and wipe everything , reflash again.
seem cause of you not wipe before flashing

Ok, so I removed the battery for about 30 seconds, then put it back in.
Held down the Home & Volume - & Power buttons.
The Menu and Back lights blinked.
I continued holding the buttons down for about a minute and a half, and the lights kept blinking. I assumed they would continue blinking forever, so I let go of the buttons.
The phone boots up to the lock screen like normal.
What am I missing?
====================
EDIT > I tried holding Home & Volume - & Power while on the Home screen, the Power Off menu came up, kept holding the buttons, the phone shut down and rebooted back to the lock screen like normal. So I guess it's still a no-go for me at this point.
EDIT 2 > According to other threads here some are having to unlock the bootloader. Where's a good place to start looking for how to do that if it's needed for this phone?
So I've been googling this crap for 3 days now, and it seems that my phone is just this magic piece of crap that will only show the LG logo while trying to do a hard reset or trying to get into recovery. I'm at my wit's end.

I removed the battery, plugged it in via USB to PC, held down Vol Down, Vol Up, & Power (it was showing an animation that looked like it was showing me to put the back of the phone on), the animation goes away as I'm holding the buttons, the Menu and Back button lights started flashing quickly, I let go of the buttons, then it shows the LG Logo for a few seconds, then it shows the blue TracFone logo for a few seconds, then goes back to showing the animation again.

I got it using "adb reboot recovery". The problem was that the recovery wasn't properly pushed because of so little space on this phone. It's slightly different than the regular L3 e400's because of some reason. It's a Straight Talk LG Optimus Dynamic. Thanks for your replies.
