access the phone application for voip(sip)? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to use google's built in phone application for voip (sip). I know there are sip applications in the market but on a previous tablet I found they had poor sound quality and wanted to try it with the built in one. Is there a way to enable this similar to the camera app for nexus 7? Or a hidden way of running it?

I've been using groove IP with my gvoice number works pretty good especially with my Bluetooth headphones.

Voice dial anyone?

Tried to search this.. anyone knows if I can voice dial with Desire? I need it when dial someone while driving through bluetooth. Thanks
I too would love an answer to this if anyone has one. Would be nice if the button on bluetooth handsfree kits started voice dialing as with my TouchHD, but just voice dialing would be a start. I am guessing that the only option would be using the voice search but I tried that and it just looked up whatever name I searched on google
Download and install the car dock (see here).
Amongst other things, it allows you to voice dial.
Regards,
Dave
You don't need the car dock app, if you have voice search installed, just long press the search button and say "call whoever".
Si
is there any non internet dependent voice dialer available
Am I missing something? Long press on search key does not bring up any voice search on my Desire... do I need to install any app?
mine puts call whoever into a Google search???

I havnt gotten my Desire yet, but is it really that easy? Just install that app?
Has someone actually made this work? All my searches go to google. Carl/Kal whatever...
Yep, works fine. DL'd to my PC, onto the card and bingo. Works perfectly.

Doesn't work on my handset it always performs a Google search. I've even tried unticking the Internet option in the Searchable Items list and it still searches Google. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling too.
Me too I think this might be a new version though but it wont download lol

It is a newer version than the one I originally had installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled this one.
Download to your PC, then move to the SD Card and install (just open with Astro.) It really works very well
Yes this works better now, only thing is when i say call mom etc
i get a list.. call mom, call mom mobile, call mom google search etc.. why dont it just do it lol

I use ring central and was having problems finding an app that will work with ring central. Anyone have any idea. I have tried telna but no success. Also tried 3cx.

I have found that Sipdroid works but audio has poor low range audio. I tried Acrobits which has Sulawesi and aLaw but the audio doesn't sound any better and it also skips badly.
Anyone has a better idea of a better app

Sipdroid on the Transformer

Is anyone here using Sipdroid (or another VOIP app) on their Transformer? I have it set up and I can make calls out (they sound pretty good too) but I can only do it using the crappy built-in dialer in the Sipdroid app.
What I'd like to do is use Dialer One (third party dialer app I found on the Play market) and have that dial via Sipdroid. The trouble is when I press the call button, the Sipdroid app flashes on the screen for a split second and it brings me back to the Dialer One screen without making the call.
Anyone know how to integrate the two properly?
I use grooveip and it works great. It intergrates with the phones native dialer pretty well too. Although, on my tf I just use the dialer that is built into the app. I cannot speak to whether it intergrates with the dialer you mentioned, however.
I purchased GrooveIP and found the sound quality to be very poor, especially on the other end. Tons of echo on speaker phone (the only way to call on a tablet). Sipdroid's sounds much better. Just need to get it working with another dialer app...
Why are you using your speakers instead of a headset? GrooveIP was made for Google Voice. As long as it has enough bandwidth and speed it sounds good to me, even out here in Afghanistan.

I use bria well worth the price, used sipdroid on my galaxy s but was very unreliable! since using bria I have absoluely no problems!
I have been using csipsimple for a long time now. I used to use Sipdroid when it was the first and best voip phone, but csipsimple has really been much better for me.

Using microphone in gmail for conversation

Hey guys. Was curious if its possible to use the mic. For chat purposes while in google talk. I dont see it as an option in gmail or google + either. I only see the option of doing audio chat which is not what i need.
Thanks.

Yes, Google Talk has the mic and video w/ mic options. I just got off mine using the vid chat, checking to make sure they worked so I could answer your question. As a matter of fact, the video is excellent over wifi!!

I use Google Voice and Groove IP (paid) for my calls. Works like a champ too. :good:
With the paid version of Groove IP on my tablet, I can connect via wireless tether to my phone and use my 3g to make calls from my tablet. Of course I can connect via wifi to make calls too. :good:
Sorry I guess I didnt explain myself properly enough. I don't want to do an audio chat, THAT is the option they give you in gmail. I want to be able to speak instead of typing like I can do on my phone. If i can speak into the mic. for google apps and what not I dont see why i cant do the same thing in gmail but i dont see the option. And i dont see an option for the Mic. on the keyboards as well. Hope I did a better job of explaining myself. :cyclops:

When I compose a new Gmail, when the keyboard pops up, pressing the mic button allows me to do what I believe you are describing.
I use SwiftKey.

Native SIP client

I couldn't find it, too. I've installed SIP Switch Widget (from Google Play). The first button is an easy access to SIP configuration and the second one is a switcher, so you can toggle between calling over SIP, over your conventional phone system or by asking you to select which one you want once a call starts.
Does it work with SIP Switch Widget? or may tweak elsewhere?, I want one of this, but only if it is possible to use native sip client.
Thank you

Could you please tell me how is being your experience with this smartphone, how do you use it if for work or personal and whats your opinion since you bought it. Especially about performance and battery please.
