Nexus 7 has been superbly optimized for phone ui. I have not used tablet ui even once. I tend to increase font size in Chrome>Accessibility than to change UI.

Best Rom.?

I'm asking the nexus 7 community what is the beat stable rom? I'm rooting &now thinking about flashing a rom if stable will keep as a daily driver.....

I'm running stock, but am rooted with Nova. I'm going to wait for some Milestones from AOKP. I've tried some Roms but none of them are as stable as stock at this point.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
just asking because when i was in the development section of this awesome n7 community i seen a feature to a rom and it was that flash support actually working on the stock browser the great google chrome lol as well with landscape mode working on the n7 ... awesome mannnn lolol
Nexus 7 of HELLBoy
The liquid jellybean alphas are the best I have used as of now, and I have used pretty much everything

I'm a fan of the paranoid android ROM by Molesarecoming. He's building the thing blind and it's still phenomenal. App-by-app layout ui as well as most CM10 features.
I'm running EOS because they have a great standard dpi tablet mode.
Paranoid supposedly is great and Liquid is always a favorite...
Paranoid may work well for me but Liquid doesn't have tablet mode. EOS is just simple. It feels like stock with a few simple eye candy options for the navigation bar. It just works well.
Overall you should do a nandroid and just go crazy. Everyone has a different opinion and features they like that runs well with their unique setup.

My first vote goes to Kaos-Droid, just make sure to include the apex launcher on v 3.1 in Aroma, otherwise you have issues with superSU and have to manually input network id's, bit besides that, super smooth & stable, great ROM :thumbup:
If you want something cm10 based, then my vote is glazed job by hyper runner.

I have been running BAMF and very happy with it.

I've flashed them all... BAMF all the way!

Best Nexus 7 ROM With Tablet UI

What's the best ROM currently with tablet UI? I know it's a matter of opinion, but I still want to hear it.
Google Wallet should also work as well.

So far paranoid android is smooth for me...

I'm curious about this as well. Been looking at Paranoid Android mainly.
Paranoid is the best way to go.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I am very happy about Paranoid
Definitely paranoid because some apps look really wonky with tablet ui at 720px, but with PA you can customize the layout of each individual app which is awesome.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Paranoid is amazing though I wish i could use other ROMs with paranoid features
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Paranoid working fine for me. Like the per-app customization.
Stock works fine too.
IMUI has a really different and beautiful UI then all other ROM
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
MIUI is terrible for the Nexus 7. I love it on my S2 but too many phone features are still present in the Nexus 7 MIUI build. It feels half-done.
Paranoid Android is very slow but the UI customization is good.
I'm tempted to go back to stock though because it has been the smoothest and best battery performance rom for me.
PA 2.1 is good for me
Team Bamf
I'm using team bamf paradigm v2.2. Seems to work really well get really nice battery life out of it.
TeamEOS
The TeamEOS ROM works quite good for me.. I would recommend it to everyone!

The AOKP nightly ROM is pretty awesome.
Just ordered my Nexus 7 today, this have been sort of helpful...lol.
EOS has a dead simple Tablet UI option. Just check and forget. It uses the same DPI as stock so you dont have any comparability issues like other methods. I haven't had a single problem running in tablet mode regarding apps and games. PA gets good rep too but EOS simply just works so good I can't come off of it.
Battery is also simply amazing. I unplug at 8 when I go to work and will still be at 100% when I get home if I dont use it. I unplugged the N7 like 20 minutes ago and on XDA and still at 100%. Absolutely no complaints.

How much would you miss tablet UI?

Apparently it's going. I will really miss it. I don't think there is any need for two thick black bars on a 7 inch device. I like having the extra space and I like the aesthetics of the tablet UI, especially with a reduced nav bar. I don't know why they are removing tablet UI and if the devs can do anything about it. I hope they can! Will you miss it too or is it just me?
Edit: Turns out it's just a rumour, phew!
Most will miss the 10" tablet UI but honestly, I don't expect that I will. The centered buttons are not that big a deal and the "Odd" way the Nexus 7's notification system lurks around, unobtrusive enough that I probably won't care.
I will be more interested in things like Miracast support and web browsing performance than I will be in the UI changes.

There are a bunch of ROMs with tablet UI actually. I'm using smooth ROM with it and its irreplaceable
I know, I'm on PA, but once the update kicks in the ROMs won't have tablet UI. Correct me if I'm wrong!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I will miss it alot. I do not see why they would get rid of something like that.
Btw where did you see it was removed and are we talking about the 4.2 update?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
I thought I would hate it when I first saw it
But honestly, I like it. I was forced to use it for the first month before I rooted my n7, and I got used to it. Then I installed a tabui ROM and imo it doesn't work properly on a 7 inch screen. I know a lot will disagree but I am just sayin
I use the normal phone ui now, its just more consistent and easier to use for me. If I want more screen space, I will remove the bars with 'expand desktop' on the ROMs I use

things i hate about standard nexus 7 UI
no quick access to brightness. in tablet UI i can quickly tap the time in lower left hand corner and adjust brightness on the fly.. cant do that with nexus 7 UI
i hate how i dont get Tablet APPs and instead get the phone app for youtube gmail etc..
those are the only things that make me to to tablet ui..
if i could have quick access to Brightness AND native tablet youtube and gmail apps in the standard nexus 7 UI then id be fine.
i really do love the expanded youtube app in tablet UI 4 nice rows in portrait mode compared to phone youtube app. yuck.
Yea the tablet mode is supreme. If it doesn't "work" right then it isn't implemented right. EOS has it so stupidly simple that it is a godsend. You can enable/disable it on the fly and it doesn't screw with your other apps. Just combines the bars into 1.
The notification pulldown menu on the stock UI is horrible. Needs fullscreen or something. Looks tacked on like an afterthought.
I will be disappointed once 4.2 hits and it goes away. Remember tablet UI has to be present to unlock it. Google may remove it completely to streamline their OSs.

Yes, apparently the update doesn't allow for tablet UI. I read about it over on the PA thread.

It's all over the place in the ROMs threads but there is a discussion kinda starting here in the PA thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33692765 . Reading this again there seems to be some uncertainty about it. So that's something I guess...

No one knows what Google have done with the code and the xml layouts until they release 4.2 sources. Until then your guess is as good as mine.

[Q] Nexus 10 launcher-layout on N7?

Once again I will ask, because I haven't found anything yet.
Is it possible to modify the N7-launcher (or maybe Trebuchet, since I'm running CM 10.1) to match the look of the Nexus 10-launcher in landscape mode?
What I mean is this: http://cdn2.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/7189289/DSC_2121-hero_large_verge_super_wide.jpg
As you can see, in landscape it preserves the layout we only have in portrait.

On Android 4.2, set DPI to 160. I don't recommend it, everything is so small.

I knew that, but it really is small. Not the launcher, but the rest. I think you gave me an idea: If I use PA, I could just set Trebuchet to 160dpi - maybe that should work.
Regards and thanks

Why would you want to strain your eyes using DPI 160?

I don't want to, that's why I don't simply set the density to 160 dpi!
Using PA works great. I've set everything to stock 213 dpi, except from the launcher. It is set to 160 dpi, 720p. That works the way it should and the smaller icons on the launcher are really ok.

KitKat + GEL launcher = slow piece of crap

I'm running unrooted, stock KitKat with GEL launcher and it's slow as hell.
Screen transitions, any changes to icons, Google now everything is slow as hell.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
You might want to check other possibilities. I am using GEL launcher without significant slowing, a hitch here or there, but nothing too horrible.

Then don't use gel launcher. Use the stock one or nova beta which is themed like gel. There already threads about this. No reason to make a new one just to say it sucks. Anyways it's not meant for the nexus 10 so unless someone or Google optimizes it for our tablet it won't work well because of all the transparency

Well, you have nexus 5, you should know how fast it is running. Nexus 10 is not even close to that. It actually reminds me Samsung device bloated with touchwiz.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Think about it this way. The device has to draw the entire screen 2 times one of those being a transparent layer while animating it... that will task any device... wouldn't be surprised to see the new N10 come out with 1080p just for this issue.. I don't think any SOC that can handle this resolution with transparency
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
Use Nova Launcher beta with transculent. Working great and smooooth
I take my words back. After "S" update the tablet seems to back being responsive again, even with GEL launcher.
I've recently tried Note 10.1 2014 and even though it runs on latest hardware its dead slow 'cause of touchwiz overkill.
