I'm running stock, but am rooted with Nova. I'm going to wait for some Milestones from AOKP. I've tried some Roms but none of them are as stable as stock at this point.

The liquid jellybean alphas are the best I have used as of now, and I have used pretty much everything

I'm a fan of the paranoid android ROM by Molesarecoming. He's building the thing blind and it's still phenomenal. App-by-app layout ui as well as most CM10 features.

I'm running EOS because they have a great standard dpi tablet mode.
Paranoid supposedly is great and Liquid is always a favorite...
Paranoid may work well for me but Liquid doesn't have tablet mode. EOS is just simple. It feels like stock with a few simple eye candy options for the navigation bar. It just works well.
Overall you should do a nandroid and just go crazy. Everyone has a different opinion and features they like that runs well with their unique setup.

Team BAMF!

My first vote goes to Kaos-Droid, just make sure to include the apex launcher on v 3.1 in Aroma, otherwise you have issues with superSU and have to manually input network id's, bit besides that, super smooth & stable, great ROM :thumbup:
If you want something cm10 based, then my vote is glazed job by hyper runner.

I have been running BAMF and very happy with it.

I've flashed them all... BAMF all the way!

Best Nexus 7 ROM With Tablet UI

What's the best ROM currently with tablet UI? I know it's a matter of opinion, but I still want to hear it.
Google Wallet should also work as well.

So far paranoid android is smooth for me...

I'm curious about this as well. Been looking at Paranoid Android mainly.
Paranoid is the best way to go.

I am very happy about Paranoid
Definitely paranoid because some apps look really wonky with tablet ui at 720px, but with PA you can customize the layout of each individual app which is awesome.

Paranoid is amazing though I wish i could use other ROMs with paranoid features

Paranoid working fine for me. Like the per-app customization.
Stock works fine too.
IMUI has a really different and beautiful UI then all other ROM

MIUI is terrible for the Nexus 7. I love it on my S2 but too many phone features are still present in the Nexus 7 MIUI build. It feels half-done.
Paranoid Android is very slow but the UI customization is good.
I'm tempted to go back to stock though because it has been the smoothest and best battery performance rom for me.
PA 2.1 is good for me
Team Bamf
I'm using team bamf paradigm v2.2. Seems to work really well get really nice battery life out of it.
TeamEOS
The TeamEOS ROM works quite good for me.. I would recommend it to everyone!

The AOKP nightly ROM is pretty awesome.
Just ordered my Nexus 7 today, this have been sort of helpful...lol.
EOS has a dead simple Tablet UI option. Just check and forget. It uses the same DPI as stock so you dont have any comparability issues like other methods. I haven't had a single problem running in tablet mode regarding apps and games. PA gets good rep too but EOS simply just works so good I can't come off of it.
Battery is also simply amazing. I unplug at 8 when I go to work and will still be at 100% when I get home if I dont use it. I unplugged the N7 like 20 minutes ago and on XDA and still at 100%. Absolutely no complaints.

Best ROM For Customization

There are a bunch of ROMs available for the nexus 7 ROM. Which is your favorite?

There isn't a best ROM for anything. But my personal favorite is Paranoid Android. It gives you the option of tablet mode and lets you change DPI on the fly.

Stock JB is the best way to go for now.
I tried every rom out there and nothing that offers more then stock JB and is stable w/o bugs at the moment

Paranoid has never given me any bugs and runs super stable and smooth for me. Nothing against stock JB, but Paranoid blows it out of the water with options and it runs just as stable on my N7.

I use Codename Android and it is the most customizable. I tried Paranoid Android and I hated it. I couldn't customize anything and I hate tablet UI.
If you like Paranoid Android but want the large amount of customization that Codename Android offers, you could also try this ROM, which is a combination of Paranoid and Codename. It looks awesome and I'm planning on flashing this soon.

There isn't a best rom. its all personal preference. Take some time and read the rom threads up and you will be the only one that knows what you consider to be the "best" for yourself.

Have you flashed a Rom or stayed Stock?

I am looking at the Rom's and am itching to flash one to go with the Matrix kernel but I don't know what to choose!
I was looking at "[ROM] Android Open Kang Project - MAKO - JBean 4.2" but never ran AOKP before so I'm unsure. Then Cyanogenmod has the nightlys out now so I could flash an official one from the website or go for KonstantineKeller"s "[ROM] CyanogenMod 10.1 Unofficial - Mako - JellyBean 4.2 [NOV/25/2012]"
Stock is treating me very well but I never ran stock in so long, I always ran Cyanogen or Viper rom on my Sensation!
I like the customization of the custom Roms but am worried about stability.
I am stuck in a swirling torrent of indecisiveness... help.
Waiting a week or two for more mature CM10.1 and CM10.1-based ROMs.
I do have my bootloader unlocked and CWM installed in preparation, though.
I've got my circle battery mod, and pretty soon I'll flash a kernel so I can undervolt a little. If someone comes up with way to use the volume button for music controls, I won't have any reason to flash a new rom. gotta love stock android.
I think I'm staying stock until a proper CM or AOKP rom goes out, I had a Galaxy S3 and the CM and AOKP overall experience is/was pretty bad because of the propietary drivers. So until N4 gets AOSP, no custom roms for me.
but tstock nexus 4 runs simply great, so at least for now, it's ok.
Trying to stay stock until a stable Paranoid Android ROM is out.

Running paranoid android for 2 days now. System has crashed twice but it instantly comes back. It is amazing though. You will not regret flashing it now.

Yeah I'm still on stock too. Just came from the HTC One X running CM10 and really enjoying the smoothness of stock on the N4. Only things I miss are the music controls from volume rocker (skip forward/backwards) and the theme chooser.

I'm with you too. This is the first time I haven't had the urge to root and flash from the get go. Android 4.2 really is great and I am only missing a few features from aokp. I will however root and flash as soon as we get stable aokp because I don't want to deal with bugs and instability issues on my sunny new device.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I am going to stay stock until I make sure all is well with my device. Besides that I actually like it just as it is.
I will also wait until some ROMs are stable and as bug free as possible. I don't want to have my device not have the front-facing camera or Bluetooth not work properly. Or some other issue.

I love Paranoid Android I have been using their rom ever since I had a gnex... and it's been running just fine on my N4!
Within an hour I was up and running with Paranoid Android. Such a simple device to unlock/root/flash etc especially with the tool kits. My first Android experience was with a HTC Legend where you needed to make gold cards and stuff. Wasn't complicated, just a lot of steps. Thankfully I moved to a HD2 which was a breeze to do most stuff.
With the N4 it was just download a program, install the press, load up the program, answer a question or two in relation to what build you have and the application updates. Press option #8 which does everything (unlock/root/flash) then about 5 minutes later you have everything done for you.
Cunning official CM10.1 nightlies. Quite stable, haven't had a problem as of yet.
Running CM10.1 Official. Works better than stock..

Flashed paranoid android straight away. Its pretty stable for me. Not had any crashes or anything. Only problem is not all features have been added yet but that adds to the excitement for updates

I completely stock at the moment. I'm very content with it. Hopefully there'll be a PACman ROM soon, I liked that on my Xperia Play.

Kernels for N4

Will all the kernels work for any ROM?
Hope this isn't a dumb question, but this is my first experience with an unbranded true vanilla android experience.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes because all ROM's are AOSP. Just make sure to flash the stock kernel after if you decide to switch from franco.Kernel. My favorite kernel is faux123's kernel. Battery is amazing and performance is also great. It's a little sluggish at first but after it settles it's great.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yes all works with all roms as well as stock.
Nexus 4 all have same android version so there is no different kernel for that.

Best rom for dd?

I currently am running liquidsmooth 3.2. I just found out that the thread for that ROM has been closed as per OP's request. I would like to switch to a different ROM but based on current choices, I don't know which one would be the best for a daily driver in terms of stability and performance. You advice would greatly appreciated.
Carbon rom is made by many off the devs from Liquid
Bionic Rom is pretty stable , basically stock with bionic patches for krait.
Paranoidandroid ROM is the way to go!

Xylon ROM is one of the most stable roms out there. I would say any of the big name roms in the Original development section are pretty stable. Codefire, Xenon, anything else that isn't in beta.
I love Rasbeanjelly and MMuzzy myself.

+1 for PARANOIDANDROID
Basically any rom is good enough for a daily driver on this phone, I know its a Douchy answer but with a nexus its basically your opinion its not like we are using Roms on the next update with major bugs to be worked on lol

If you want something close to stock with some nice additions that add to the ROM I highly recommend MMuzzy. It's stock with the addition of clear all button for recently opened apps, T9 dialer, customizable quick settings, enhanced power menu and the addition to determine between H and H+ speeds. Other than that it is stock. But a good start for a first time ROM.
