Calendar sync issues: solved - Xoom General

I'm posting in case this may help others solve calendar sync issues. It may seem very basic to some users, but it was the result of hours of research, and trial & error, for me.
In my office, we use Outlook with the free Google Sync program. A couple of desktops, my netbook and notebook, and my Xoom and Bionic are all synced to the same Google Calendar.
I was having lots of problems with the calendar on the Xoom updating, until I ran across a post someplace about setting up that Gmail account as an Enterprise account instead of a Gmail account.
I'm running the latest Team EOS Jellybean nightly with the current gapps download. Under Google accounts, I no longer see an option to sync calendars. (I installed the zip file from my SD card, over a version of Pete's Bugless Beast ICS. Yeah, I know....)
I deleted the Google account in settings, then:
Settings --> Add Account --> Corporate
On the setup screen, enter your full email address ([email protected]) and password, then hit "Next."
The next screen is Server Settings.
Domain\username: \username
Password: your password (should carry over from the prior screen)
Server: m.google.com
Port: 443
"Use connection (SSL)" and "Accept all SSL certificates" should be checked.
In the options under the account, you now have a checkbox option to sync the calendar and contacts. (I don't use this account for email, so I left that box unchecked.)
Hope this tip saves somebody the time and headaches I experienced!

Many thanks

Gmail finally working!

I tried hard to make Gmail work with Outlook.
I was able to read my account, but I couldn't send anything, even with the support of this clever forum.
So I finally gave up trying to make Outlook work, and I switched to a free email application using SSL.
It's Qmail, written by a Japanese guy.
After a lot of investigation, I could have my Gmail account working, so if you're interested in understanding how, please continue reading this post.
(Actually Qmail is also a RSS reader and a newsgroup reader!)
If not, you don't need to go on.
1) Read this:
http://www.azol.ru/texts/QMail3_eng_FAQ.htm
excellent guide
2) Download the program here (with the page translated):
http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http://q3.snak.org/download/&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2
There are two files to be downloaded:
a) the stable version http://q3.snak.org/q3/nph-snapshot.cgi?q3u-ppc2003se-armv4-ja.zip
b) the openSSL library to be able to authenticate in Gmail. It's this one:
http://q3.snak.org/download/openssl/openssl-wince-arm-0.9.8a.zip
3) Put all the files in your SD card (strongly suggested) or wherever you want. Creater a subfolder named "mail_in" (in my case).
I suggest to create a link to q3u.exe files to have it in the program folder. I did it using Resco Explorer.
4) rotate the screen in portrait (or you won't be able to se the command bar, and anyway it will be more difficult).
5) Go to Tool-Account and create a new one using options as stated here: http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use SSL: Yes Port: 465
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your full Gmail email address ([email protected])
Password: your Gmail password
Now THE MOST IMPORTANT part for me. I could read mail but never send before I realized I had to put In the tab ADVANCED, in "Identity" field my gmail address.
Click on the (small) sync icon at the bottom (right) and it should work.
Further details on this good piece of software: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...tware/qmail2/./doc/manual/./qs-doc_index.html
and here: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...tp://q3.snak.org/wiki/wiki.cgi?page=FrontPage
hope it helps someone not to spend hours to make it work!
G Mail
My dear...just use Web IS mail and it will auto congifure for it...I use it and it is perfect
Gmail and Outlook
I have mine working with poutlook no problem. Google "gmail on ppc" to find guides on how to set it up.
Hi hdubli, I know Webis mail does it, but it costs money, while qmail is freeware.
illwil, I'm happy your poutlook is doing the job. I tried hard to have the same result, but I couldn't, and I didn't want to spend extra-money to have what I already expected from poutlook.
Putting exactly the same parameters in qmail it simply worked.
Maybe someone else is in my same situation, but I agree with you poutlook should be tried first.
Hey i did a google search for gmal clientsand came across this
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=70622&page=1&pp=25
is this what you guys were talking about
autumno, did you try out the procedure on the aximsite?
Hi,
basically the setup is the same, but I couldn't make it work.
After succesfully using qmail for a while, I decided a completely different approach to gmail.
Considering it gives you the chance to have your messages as rss feeds, I'm using Egress as RSS reader.
It's here:
http://www.garishkernels.net/egress.html
It's not free but good. Unfortunately the free RSS reader I generally used, PRSS doesn't support the gmail format.
So I read my messages using Egress, and if I need to answer, I use its internal browser. It works.
hey i tried to get gmail going on my xda and face the following issue
whenever i try to connect to my gmail account, it first tries to logon
and then goes back to the display showing my user account and password
Incoming E-mail Password
User name --> my user name
Password --> my password
Domain --> Blank
can you guys please help me
this has resulted in a fourth account
Text Messages
Outlook E-mail

Noticed yesterday that Hotmail is only allowing POP connects every 15min, so when new mail arrives and you delete something, google tries to send the delete request to hotmail and it times out since it hasn't been 15min. Sad, but migrating to the Hotmail exchange settings may be the final solution. I just havent' got it to work properly yet. If anyone has had any success setting Hotmail up as Exchange let us know. Thanks
EDIT: Found directions...trying now..
Microsoft has mentioned that Exchange ActiveSync will be a separate roll out from the roll out of Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4. Officially, Exchange ActiveSync support on Hotmail not yet been released officially before end of 2010. However, it seems that the Exchange ActiveSync support has been enabled for some, but more and more Hotmail accounts, regardless of whether the accounts have been converted to Wave 4 or not.
For mobile phone users, such as iPhone iOS-based, Android-based, Windows Mobile-based, Blackberry-based smartphone and other cell phones which support Exchange account setup, the settings for syncing Hotmail account through Exchange Active Sync is as follow:
Email: [email protected] or [email protected]hotmail.com or [email protected]
Server Address: m.hotmail.com
SSL: Enabled
Username: [email protected] or [email protected]hotmail.com or [email protected]
Password: password
Domain: <blank>
Note that each mobile portable devices have different settings, preferences or configuration names, but the basic information required is about the same. For example, in iPhone, go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and create a new Micorsoft Exchange account. In Android based device, go to Settings -> Accounts & Sync, and add a new corporate account.
After setting up the Exchange Hotmail account, change the “Mail Days to Sync” or “Amount to synchronize” from 1 day to other value in order to receive more emails including old one in Inbox.
If you have encountered incorrect password, unable to connect to Exchange server, unable to open connection to server, or Exchange account verification failed error message, your Hotmail account probably hasn’t have Exchange Active Sync support turned on yet.

doesn't work for me
EDIT:
it works
server: smtp.live.com
port: 587
security: TLS
I found it was easier to just make a googlemail.com account and forward my pop based mail to that.
At least then I've also got proper push email, you could probably hide your google address to show your hotmail one too, I've not looked too deep in to that one, I'm sure it can be done, you can do it in things like Outlook etc.

Would be excellent as mine has stopped pushing consistently recently and only works when it feels like. Does this now work for you? I have a .co.uk address and run rooted 2.1 stock.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I have not test it on Android 2.1 but it is working with .co.uk addresses
I let Gmail get my hotmail, and label it as such, and even reply from Gmail as from my Hotmail account.
Does the Hotmail ActiveSync also sync calendar events?
Yep and contacts

thanks man. i will try it
synced tasks are too simple... no recurrencey on the website for example...
I realized that the service became available about a month before I found it and posted it here. I suppose that Google helped push hotmail to finally give the service for free because of the m.gmail.com free exchange service.
I struggled for quite a while and almost gave in to switching to Gmail. Glad I could help by sharing the info.

Hello MS!

Need help setting up outlook email and calendar

I am using CM 10.1. I would like to set up my outlook account on my phone. I just can't seem to get it working when trying with the exchange method. Not sure why. I tried the outlook.com app and it connects to my account but does not display any emails or calendar. Its like its not working. So I am stuck with my email set up with IMAP method. Anyone was able to set up their outlook/exchange account with email and calendar on their N4 running CM 10.1? Thanks.

In the outlook app, go to settings and increase the number of days to sync. I think the default is small (like 3 days).
As for Corporate (ActiveSync);
Email address: <[email protected]>
Password: <obvious>
-Hit cancel, or wait to fail-
Domain\Username: <[email protected]> (no backslashes)
Server is m.hotmail.com (m.outlook.com is for Outlook 360 accounts)
Use secure connection (SSL)
Port: 443
only sync "Email, Calendar, and Contacts".

I tried those steps before and again. No good. I tried getting support from Microsoft but I think I keep getting folks who are not qualified to troubleshoot with me. I'm curious if anyone is in the same boat with me or if there is something wrong? Any help is appreciated.
