[Q] Custom Roms & Kernels - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone using Custom Roms & Kernels yet?
The feeling of the stock ROM seems good enough for me at the moment.
(I'm guessing once i Root my replacement unit, I can uninstall the crapware to improve the performance more)
So, If anyone is using Custom ROM'S do you notice much difference between it and stock?

I'm using the KRAKD ROM and I'm glad I unlocked /rooted now just so I won't lose data later.

I'm waiting for more people together get their devices. Development is still slow since it's new and offers few improvements.
I'll probably wait a month or so.

I also pretty much have the same question as above, are any ROMS really stable at the moment?
Amazingly (after my horrid experience with the Asus transformer stock..) stock on this tab feels great.
I did root it though, just no crazy flashing yet.
Is cm10 stable and working?

Which ROM is being used widely ?

Lets see how many users are using Custom Rom , Stock Samsung ROM , MIUI or CM7....
Vote at your will.
Using my own custom sammy rom . I like to put my own touch to them lol. CM7 is ok but i find anything AOSP roms have flaws but props to the devs.

My custom ROM too. Aosp.
Sent from HydrOG3N MOD S2.
Technology Evolves, Android Evolves.
HydrOG3N is THE Revolution.
Oxygen 2.3.2, or HydrogenMod.
Aosp for me all the way.
Regards
To be fair, stock would be the most used rom.

Heh, true that. I guess most people are just using stock roms, maybe with a custom kernel. This phone works fine the way it is actually, there are just some little flaws that can be fixed with a couple of hacks, and some colours which are a bit out place, but we have some nice themes after all.
Aosp roms are blazing fast tho, really unrivaled in terms of smoothness if you wanna play games...the problem with those is that they aren't 100% bug free as the ones i was using on my Desire, so i find it hard to use them as a daily driver for more than a few days every now and then on this particular phone.
Hyperdroid androidmeda with speedmod kernel.

Galnet MIUI ICS builds. Far better than anything else.
stock 2.3.5 PT + juicedefender
thats it
checkk
CheckROM with ICS syndicate theme work perfect for me!
You're going to get a biased result asking on xda, as its where people who like modding go. Most users will not know about xda or bother with custom roms and be using stock

im a little bit confused because i come from nexus one, where the biggest part use CM builds, but here there seems to be a more even distribution among users..... any special reasons?
Was on cognition for a long while. on darky ROM now.

I prefer Samsung custom roms because they are so freakin smooth. Excellent stock browser, I love TouchWiz and the launcher, superb camera interface, and an awesome video player app.
Hyperdroid all the way-official ROM of the 2012 Olympics.
You guys wants me to add more poll items for Custom Stock ROM ?
I'm trying out omega and liking it so far,
Reason why the large distribution is because really, the phone works as is pretty well. It just needs a few tweaks to get rid of that garbage late night battery full alert and a couple other things. Since most people are looking for stock + tweaks, there's a lot of different tweaks available.
WajkIUI... i hope the spelling is right.. excellent ROM

Stable/smooth ICS Rom

hey, i just got a nexus s 4g (sprint). I was wondering what ICS roms are most stable and quick? There are quite a few and i was just wondering what people thought. I just want a rom for everyday use, nothing too crazy, maybe OC and UV. but i dont want any with soft reboots or anything.
thanks
I would go with Crossbones

Does anyone read nowadays...
crossbones is good and stable but so is oics and gummy nexus. Gummy nexus has the software buttons like the galaxy nexus

My current favorite is AOKP Milestone 2, which has cool features above and beyond the rest and has presented Zero issues.
Vhgomez 1.5 and sph33r's aosp are very, very good as well.

Best rom guidance

Ok right now I'm using the matrix rom, and is real good on my t-mobile nexus s. The thing is that I know is pretty old and I kbow there are several newer more stable roms out there but wich one ia the best of all? I'm looking for the fastest but not just that but stable if that's not available what would be the fastest and still be super steady and bug free.

Try a few! I tell EVERYONE who asks this question the same thing...
THERE IS **NO** BEST ROM (OR KERNEL)
Different phones behave differently with roms/kernels. Make a nandroid, flash something, and use it for a few days/weeks. Don't like it? Flash something else! Obviously you probably want to start with the jelly bean based roms and go from there. Look at the comments in the threads and base your opinion on what you want to try from what other people have said.
Hope that helps.
Back in the day I tried several infinity and don't remember others they were not stable as matrix is. I tried one of the first ics custom rom don't remember which ones and it was very unreliable. Was it because it was pretty new or all ics roms suck and is better to stay with gingerbread custom roms?

ICS ROMS run great... I was using CM9 up until yesterday when I switched to CM10. Very smooth and good battery even with the stock kernel (referring to CM9)
Closed, no such thing as a "Best" rom.

Getting the Nexus 7 soon...

and I haven't been really following anything with the Nexus 7 so...posting this on Q&A.
What is your favorite rom (including plain ol' stock), why, and kernel?
can I use the Gapps I am got for the S3?
also, what other apps / tweaks do you guys recommend?
I never used an Android as a tablet so it's some what of an uncharted waters for me.

So why don't you do something about that ?
My best tip is to do some reading. These same questions are always going to get the same answers ...it's all up to the user and their needs.

This. I planned on getting the Nexus 7, so I decided to keep checking in at this forum to see recent developments and stuff. By the time I got the device, I was already aware of what defects to look for, what ROM's and kernels I would try first, etc...
Just READ

Seriously, Custom roms are not worth of it.. or well not yet. I've tried over 6 differents rom and came back to Stock. Stock 4.1.1 has really great performance. The only useful thing I can think of is to flash a different kernel over the stock rom to overclock.

I disagree. Paranoid Android gives you control over your layout unlike stock.

I can read, but at the same time, I created this thread to get other peoples opinion in one place rather than going all over the place. and as for above, I was looking at PA too.
Can I use Gapps (7.27 i think) I am using for the S3 or does the Nexus 7 have it's own different Gapps?

What roms is yall rocking?

trying to decide which rom to use, itll be my first EVER! .. what yall using? what yall like about its. i have an att version rooted. thanks! so far leaning towards power user edition rom, feel like clean rom is what i have already cause i debloated a bit or is there more to it than that?
Sorry but you must have got confused which forum you're on. This isn't the Galaxy s4 forum.
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
What indicates that he was looking for an S4 forum? Both roms he mention are G2.
i wouldnt think theres much of a difference in the roms except some mods which you can add on yourself thru stock rom
These roms are early builds and dont contain much, im staying on stock for now.
Malladus 1.1.3
