Nice, search function disappears when i select it on the phone though.
Is there anyway to use the webtop without having to have it setup for WIFI. I have already setup tethering modification. This is the standard over the wire update installed and I do NOT want to install a mod or unlock. (it serves no purpose to me doing so) Any ideas?
Just go into Webtop and turn on the wifi hotspot. Open up Firefox and verify that you have connectivity and then you can turn off the hotspot and still keep the 3G connection.

That only works for custom roms that have entitlement disabled. The op said he doesn't have his bl unlocked, so that wouldn't work for him.
EDIT: or maybe it will. Didn't notice he was rooted. But this only works for 4.5.91.
EDIT2: gosh darnit. I can't read. Carry on, nothing to see here.

That doesn't work for me. I am running unlocked, rooted ATT 2.3.4 (webtop hack). I remember it used to work on 2.2.2.

Wifi tether and wifi toggle is working fine in this build
I can confirm this.
so will this see it's way into the official soon? I use wifi pretty heavily mon-fri so it's important that it works well for me.
Thanks.

It's been pushed into source so yes, he just wants validation that all is fine with it on a more widespread basis.
Downloading this now (over 3g...) I tried the official plus the latest nightly and neither got wifi trying all the tricks mentioned. Hopefully this will do it. Considered going back to clean gb to download with wifi by I think the restore would take just about as long.

Confirmed
I just installed it and can confirm wifi working. Setting Wifi from the settings didn't work the first time (it waited and asked me if I want to force close or wait), but second time it worked. Toggle from status bar is also working for me.
Wifi had worked for me with previous CM7 build also..

What about tether?

This worked like a champ. Turned on in the wifi settings so I could see if there was an error and immediately a list of access points popped up. That never happened on this before. Connected first try using wpa2 encryption on my router.
Great job!
Edit: just tethered with portable wifi hotspots to my ipad. Worked great!

Native ether works perfectly fine for me. I'd put up screenshots verifying it, but they'd take up a whole lot of space on this page.:x

Yep, tethering working great here too. And really quite usable. I get around 1000 kilobit/sec on cm where I was just around 600 on a good day with a touchwiz rom.

Tethering confirmed
Installed wifi tethering and confirmed it working. I had to select Epic 4G device profile in the settings for it to work. Posting this message from a tethered connection to epic 4G. Access control also works..

I did not see any app that would allow me to turn on wifi tethering without installing the wifi tether apk. What am I missing?

Go into settings<Wireless networks and settings and it should say portable hotspots. And then enable it within there.

I may have wrong build installed because I don't have the portable hotspot section in wireless & network settings. I only have following sections in wireless & network settings - Airplane mode, Wi-Fi checkbox, Wi-Fi settings, Bluetooth checkbox, Bluetooth settings, VPN settings, Mobile networks
From settings - Mod version : cynagogenMod-7.2.0-RC0-Epic and Build number GWK74

4.4 broke my ability to wifi tether through T-Mobile. I used to use FoxFi and a VPN to encrypt the connection. Since upgrading to 4.4 all encrypted packets are just dropped. Any request to a site via HTTPS just times out. Trying to use an unencrypted connection just gives me the paywall, even on other Android devices which I used to be able to tether for free on.
Anyone else on T-Mobile have their wifi tethering through FoxFi broken with 4.4?

My tethering is broken in general. I'm not even getting the paywall. I'm on a Tmo reseller Solavei but no issues until now.
Fix is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47203432#post47203432
the default tethering option works fine, its 3rd party tether apps that are broken. wait until they get updated for 4.4.

If you'd read the fix link you'd know that's not the case. The default tethering app is now allowing data routing through a secondary carrier APN which is filtered instead of the conventional mobile data APN. That has to be disabled in one of the Android settings database files to get it back to working the same way it did on < 4.4, which is routing tethered data through the same APN as the phone uses.

This fix doesn't work for me. I still get "error" when I turn on portable hotspot. I have to reboot phone after that to get normal WiFi working again .

I also can confirm this fix works on my Nexus 4 stock 4.4. I just did it. :good:
Thank you so much for this. I didn't think I was the only one with this issue
I'm on stock everything using OTA 4.4. I'm on fido and have a plan that includes tethering. on 4.3 it was fine but after 4.4, there's on access to Internet when I'm connected to the hotspot. My mobile data is fine and I've checked that my apn settings are correct.
I'm not rooted so I can't modify system files. Any solution?

Same issue here.
The fix is not relevant to our problem since we can not turn on the tether at all.

+1 to confirm I have the same issue. I am not rooted running stock 4.4 on Fido. Tethering was working great on 4.3 but since the upgrade to 4.4, devices can connect to the hotspot but not get access to the internet. Can someone confirm for me what the apn settings should be?
Solution in here

Deleting or renaming /data/misc/wifi solves the problem.
Anyone knows if 9t supports WiFi hotspot?
If yes do you know how to enable it

Like make the phone as a WiFi repeater, back with Pocophone I could use the phone's WiFi share it via hotspot, now if I'm on 9t if I turn on hotstpot it disables WiFi and start using LTE, is there any way to turn on hotspot but still using WiFi and share that WiFi using hotspot
I don't know if I'm explaining myself ???
