Tethering with TMO US?

I have read a few threads regarding tethering, but its not clear. Is tethering available out of the box? And if so, which kind, Wifi or USB?
If not, how would you enable USB tethering?
It seems like Wifi tethering is available via CAB.
Thanks.
usb tether is available out of the box and wifi is easily installes with a cab. Most cooked roms have wifi tether preinstalled.
Anyone having a problem with the HD2 losing access to data after receiving a call while tethered? It may be losing data after call even when NOT tethered...have not checked yet but it's annoying and breaking connection and reconnected doesn't fix it...a soft reset is required.....seems to only occur on LONG calls as short ones continue fine.

Just google "HTC wifi router" and you will find it.
kumars ROM ..wifi router.. tether awesome with my Ipad....... no usb or bluetooth..
Legally does Tmobile allows Tethering???
I tried USB mode tehtering and worked fine only problem was as i was talking with a tmo agent one day i just happen to ask them about tethering and they told me it is against their policy to tether. any thought on that??

I take it you didn't read the stickies. The cab is there.
I'm using the Miri-Steve Elegancia V4 rom and whenever I try to use the wifi router, my mac will not connect. Any ideas?

Anyone got their hotspot working w/o paying for tethering?

After rooting my phone I figured i would give the hotspot a shot. But when i try to browse on my ipad it brings me to the VZW self provision broadband page.
I normally use wifi tether, but i would rather be able to use the built in because its an infasture netowork vs the ad-hoc wifi tether gives me.
Not the case

actually your right and your wrong at the same time sadly; your right about the infrastructure network vs ad-hoc, but wrong about the 3g hotspot app vs. tethering & portable hotspot not an app.
The 3g hotspot app is a verizon product not googles in the sense your looking at.
The tethering & portable hotspot should have been activated in wireless & networks section, right between "Bluetooth setting & VPN settings" from a froyo(2.2) google standpoint but in our case its not even there.
Hope this clears up the mistakes about froyo tethering & portable hotspot and verizon 3g mobile hotspot app.
Yes it does thanks! I have a nexus one So i know what your talking about.

he stated in the post that he was rooted, he just wanted to use the native tethering application.
Does this mean that if we can get a vanilla Froyo or a custom ROM compiled from source that we'll have the true Android hotspot?

That's all fine and well except that the wifi tether app runs in adhoc mode not infrastructure.

why do not you just use pdanet from market?
There was a new experimental Wifi Tether build that was released dismorning bringing it up to Pre9. I was unable to find a change log, still adhoc?

Pdanet creates an ad hoc network just like every other third party app.

If its just the one computer you are logging on with use the BT method very easy and works quite well for free and even on non-rooted phone

[Q] Blue Tooth tethering

I am trying Bluetooth tethering using PdaNet. It pairs up but the 3G still shows unlike when I'm using WiFi. I cant tell if its really tethered or not? Can the 3G be turned off independently of Bluetooth? Can't find a setting for that.
Trying not to burn up my horrendous Verizon data plan, would rather pair with my Droid X unlimited plan. Anyone else tried this?
You do realize that tethering uses your data right?

Yes I do, but I have the unlimited plan on the Droid X. Yes, I know it not trully 'unlimited' but they haven't messed with me yet and I tether my laptop all the time when on the road.

See this post which explains how to native tether via bluetooth: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968801
I have tested this using my DroidX and it works great!
*Note: you do NOT need a special app to tether the Xoom to DroidX, you can do it all natively by pairing the devices then using the Tether profile that is on the Xoom, you don't need Wireless Tether or any other app to do it

been several threads on this. The original droid makes an Ad-Hoc wireless network for wifi tether, which the Xoom can't recognize. You're gonna have to do Bluetooth. Read the guides.

[Guide] Bluetooth Tether and File Transfer

There multiple threads dealing with how to get Bluetooth tether to work here is how.
First you need a rooted Android phone.
You must have a phone that running a kernel that has "CONFIG_BT_BNEP" compiled into the kernel you are using.
Otherwise it won't work.
1. Download Android Wifi Tether App version 2.0.7 (do not download higher versions because bluetooth option is not there.
2. Go to your phone turn on bluetooth.
3. Go to your TF -> Settings -> Wireless & Network -> Enable Bluetooth.
Then in TF make Discoverable under Bluetooth Settings.
4. Now you can pair the phone with the TF by scanning for device under your phone.
Hit confirm to pair on both devices. You will notice that both devices will show the other device as "paired but not connected."
5. You need to now go to Wireless & networks settings under the TF -> Tethering & portable hotspot -> enable Bluetooth tethering.
6. Now go to the Wireless Tethering app on your phone. Menu -> Settings -> Enable Use Bluetooth, Enable Discoverable, Enable Access-Control
7. Exit out of the Settings in the Wireless Tethering app. Enable Bluetooth Tether.
8. Go back to the TF under Bluetooth Settings you should be able to tap the your phone device and get the tethering option.
9. You may need to allow the TF on your phone's Wireless Tethering app.
To get Bluetooth File Transfer to work download the Bluetooth File Transfer app from Market to both devices then you are done. No rooted device needed.
Bumping this so people who need to see it, see it. Also added to ultimate thread. Good job.

Try get Bluetooth File Transfer to work on your phone and the TF. Were you at least able to achieve that?
First of all thank you for the guide, it worked flawlessly with my TF and Droid X its just the wording causes a bit of confusion for me. Not sure if you meant disable or enable and the option was already unchecked for me.
unable Bluetooth tethering.

I did this just last night and tethered to my DX. I didn't have the Wireless Tether app, so I had to go find it - not on the market since the carriers are *****ing about tethering, but I was able to find it from the developer.
Set it to BT tethering, paired the devices and hit the wrench icon on the TF, and BAM! Tethered!
I won't use it very much at all, but I'm taking a couple weeks off and will likely do a 4 day road trip with a friend, so having a connection out on the road will be nice.
Just a heads up.. running a rooted D1 I was able to get my TF to bluetooth tether but not to share the 3G. Installed a ROM (CM7) and was good to go with 3G bluetooth tether working like a charm.

Saves way more battery than wifi tether and also better speed.
Bluetooth options are disabled under wifi tether. I have enabled bluetooth on my rooted thunderbolt and the TF and both see each other. But I cant proceed further.
I tried this and the wifi apk said I didn't have the correct kernel and so this didn't work...and some of the options were greyed out.
I have an X10 with cobrato's MIUI installed and the stock kernel.
Mine worked great the last time I used it (a couple of weeks ago) but now it won't connect to my phone.. No idea why

Are you using version 2.0.7 I linked in the OP? I am also on Inspire 4G. Of course I assume your phone is rooted.

You shouldn't have to use a tethering app to use the bluetooth tethering on the droid x. You can set up the tethering through the stock wieless and network menus on the DX and transformer.

Is it true no wireless tether with gb build

Anyone able to confirm this? If that's the case ill probably stick to my rooted froyo...the tether is just too convenient at times...

You can tether, however the 3G wireless hotspot no longer works, I do believe Wireless Tether still works however
Didnt work for me... Tried using code.android wifi tether for root users yesterday and it did not work.
Think the application has to be updated.

Contact the developer. I use usb tethering through easytether, and it works perfectly
I had two tether apps, both failed under .595...depressing.
Someone inboxed me that the older version of the tether app works under GB, but I haven't tried looking for it. I will probably take JMoney47's advice and use easytether since he says it works.

Are you talking about the paid built in 3G Hotspot? That's working fine for me. Also one thing I like is how Motorola actually kept the code in for USB tethering now as well. I like this because now I don't have to worry about VZAccess manager which never supported the X - I just use my Mobile Hotspot/USB Tether 2GB plan with the built in USB Tether.
If your talking about rooted wireless tether, my buddy said he had issues with it. But the "official" one works.

I found this download and i am using my wifi tether as we speak.
