OTG + Eye-Fi = Profit? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if it would be possible to use an Eye-Fi card with my DSLR and an OTG USB cable set up to use my Nexus 7 as a viewfinder?
Thanks in advance!

Unless there's something about the Eye-Fi that I don't understand, I don't see how this could work. The Eye-Fi doesn't broadcast a live image as far as I know. I'm also not sure where the USB OTG cable would fit into the equation since I'm assuming the Eye-Fi would go into the camera.

I should also mention that I'm not completely familiar with the way Eye-Fi card work lol

don't think that would work - Eyefi only sends picture files not live video stream and for that matter the nexus 7 is not designed to take video data via usb

Would I at least be able to instantly review the pictures on the 7?

What type of camera do you have? I remember reading in this forum someone with a Nikon DSLR was able to connect it to the tablet using a MHL cable. I think he had an app on his phone for nikon cameras as well. Chainfire also makes an app for Canon EOS cameras. The comments make it sound like it works on the nexus 7. I'm planning on getting a cable and testing it out as well eventually. It offers live view and a lot of other features.

Not to sound mean but you should really at least look at a product's website to get an idea for what it actually does.
http://www.eye.fi/how-it-works/features/direct-mode
This says that you can send the pictures directly to your Android device.

You don't need eye-fi. Just the otg cable, root, and chainfire's app. This will give you live viewfinder.

Nope others too work(nokia/sony tested)
Topic is not about which brand cable works I think a app for this would work...and who told you hardware not there earlier we don't have flash because "hardware was not supporting"now we have modded app for it and it works please guys n devs think if some app

Having flash supported hasn't got anything to do with this.
Forget it. Ditch the idea. It's technically impossible - our phone doesn't support tv out. This is a budget phone made for consumers, you can't put TV out hardware in something this cheap.
Your best bet is to do as the guy somewhere above me - stream pictures over wifi.

Samsung Galaxy Micro USB To IPOD Dock Cable

found a cable on indiegogo called sam-ple
check out the videos allows you to use ipod dock remote to skip tracks play pause charges and does audio through micro USB neat.
Does this work for all docks???
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Would be great if they made it open source, don’t see why it wouldn’t be compatible with any dock. Indiegogo is a crowd funding site so i guess you can ask for features to be added?
Found the link

Great find, something I've been looking for..
Anyone aware of a similar cable available for order ??

This only passes audio through the 3.5mm jack.
That's fine with me. I can get a $100 clock radio for $20.00.
I am going to order one of these next week.

Nexus 7 with USB DVD writer OTG

This may be a stupid question, but is there a way to burn a CD from the nexus 7 using a USB DVD writer via OTG cable? And is there a app to do it with? Preferably without having to root it

I'm going to throw out a WAG and say no. OTG doesn't work without rooting.
You can connect to certain cameras and camera storage on other phones without rooting but I seriously doubt you could do it with a DVD drive. You would definitely need an app because your N7 isn't going to have the drivers to control the drive otherwise. I tried connecting an external DVD drive via OTG just to see what would happen and it would not recognize it.
Lacking drivers for one. Also software.
Reading a disc would be the first step... however it maybe the first step to a full android laptop.

see link for how you can do this without rooting on my other xda post and on my youtube videos. subscribe if you like my videos as i will upload some more videos when i find the time. see xda link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30868407#post30868407

I am interested in this, can you explain more on your setup. What is the DL-165?. An asus docking station? There is a USB to HDMI video converter for sale in the fry's add today for only $12.99 that uses a displaylink driver.

DL-165 is a chip type of DisplayLink Adapter, known supported devices are DL-125,160,165 based devices.
That adapter costs me $30. Currently this is not suitable for daily use because it is too slow (1fps), I'm working on it.

OTG + Camcorder/Camera

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to connect a camera or camcorder to their Nexus 10 via an OTG cable, or perhaps another type of cable?
I know that a lot of the newer dSLR cameras have an app and wifi capabilities and whatnot. My camera is slightly older, but it has USB, HDMI, component. The usual.
I wanted to use my tablet as a view while filming. Is that possible?
I have an older DSLR and it works fine with Otg
[sent from my nexus 10]
Awesome! I'm glad to hear that it's actually a possibility.
Can you provide me with more details? What kind of camera do you have? Is it MicroUSB? Do you use an app to mount? Do you use an app to control the camera? Do you have full range of functionalities, or are you limited?
Anything you can tell me would be appreciated! Thanks!
I've used the DSLR Controller App with my Canon 60D. Works perfectly.
I had the intention of doing some long exposure remotely released work but not really spent the time.

I have a Nexus 10 still running stock 4.2 and a Canon Vixia M41 camcorder. When I connect them using OTG, I can view previously recorded content on the camcorder if I browse to the mp4 files using a file manager on the N10, but I haven't found a way to use the N10 to view the camcorder in real time.
I assume the Nexus can't take HDMI In, so I'm limited to the USB.
