Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to connect a camera or camcorder to their Nexus 10 via an OTG cable, or perhaps another type of cable?
I know that a lot of the newer dSLR cameras have an app and wifi capabilities and whatnot. My camera is slightly older, but it has USB, HDMI, component. The usual.
I wanted to use my tablet as a view while filming. Is that possible?
I have an older DSLR and it works fine with Otg

Awesome! I'm glad to hear that it's actually a possibility.
Can you provide me with more details? What kind of camera do you have? Is it MicroUSB? Do you use an app to mount? Do you use an app to control the camera? Do you have full range of functionalities, or are you limited?
Anything you can tell me would be appreciated! Thanks!
I've used the DSLR Controller App with my Canon 60D. Works perfectly.
I had the intention of doing some long exposure remotely released work but not really spent the time.

I have a Nexus 10 still running stock 4.2 and a Canon Vixia M41 camcorder. When I connect them using OTG, I can view previously recorded content on the camcorder if I browse to the mp4 files using a file manager on the N10, but I haven't found a way to use the N10 to view the camcorder in real time.
I assume the Nexus can't take HDMI In, so I'm limited to the USB.

Is there a way or an app that will allow you to project your tablet screen to a tv? For work we need a TV that will allow us to project the tablet screen on it. We have yet to buy a TV yet and we currently have Galaxy S tablet as an option or the Moto Xoom as another option. Any suggestions? I've Googled for a solution and I've also looked through the market and haven't found anything. Being able to project wireless would be MUCH preferred.
Thanks!
You have the software on the tab already its called All share but you have to use a Samsung TV and that also has to have All Share on it.

I think he means an app that can do the same thing as the HDMI dock. The HDMI dock allows everything to be projected to the TV, not just media. In other words a mirroring app such as ones that exist for the Droid X and EVO but wireless. I would be interested in this find as well. Right now I use the HDMI dock which works quiet well but a wireless solution would be gold.
I use a $24 cable I bought from ebay. Then I project my screen through my video projector, but to a tv would be just as simple.

As has been said already, this only allows you to share media (eg video) rather than apps/homescreen etc.
However, Allshare is a DLNA client/server that works with any other DLNA device, not just Samsung TVs.

This cable is a nice and cheap alternative. However keep in mind that it won't charge your tab while it is in use while the HDMI dock does.
can we log in to internet via hdmi dock to TV?

Yup you sure can. If you have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse you can do anything from your couch if you wanted to. I recommend the Logitech dinovo mini or dinovo edge if you want this option.
I know this thread is kind of old but I want to ask...I want to do the samething wirelessly on my note 10.1 2014....now I don't have a smart TV but with chromecast is it possible? Also would chromecast have to be rooted? I don't want to be able to use some apps...I want to be able to see my TV the same exact way that I do while it is on the tablet

How about the usb cable? I am not sure about your tablet, but it should have a tv out option in the settings. I hope this helps.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if it would be possible to use an Eye-Fi card with my DSLR and an OTG USB cable set up to use my Nexus 7 as a viewfinder?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Unless there's something about the Eye-Fi that I don't understand, I don't see how this could work. The Eye-Fi doesn't broadcast a live image as far as I know. I'm also not sure where the USB OTG cable would fit into the equation since I'm assuming the Eye-Fi would go into the camera.
I should also mention that I'm not completely familiar with the way Eye-Fi card work lol
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
don't think that would work - Eyefi only sends picture files not live video stream and for that matter the nexus 7 is not designed to take video data via usb

What type of camera do you have? I remember reading in this forum someone with a Nikon DSLR was able to connect it to the tablet using a MHL cable. I think he had an app on his phone for nikon cameras as well. Chainfire also makes an app for Canon EOS cameras. The comments make it sound like it works on the nexus 7. I'm planning on getting a cable and testing it out as well eventually. It offers live view and a lot of other features.

Not to sound mean but you should really at least look at a product's website to get an idea for what it actually does.
http://www.eye.fi/how-it-works/features/direct-mode
This says that you can send the pictures directly to your Android device.

You don't need eye-fi. Just the otg cable, root, and chainfire's app. This will give you live viewfinder.
Has Anyone got this working?
My KFHD recognised the HDMI port is being used and diverts the sound but i get no picture or sound from my TV. Any ideas?
Thanks

Cheers for the replies guys. i'll try some other cables and see if that was causing the problem!
One further thing to check is your TV settings. On my TV for example you had to enable the port in the TV settings before you could even switch to it. Also depending on what the port was defined as it may or may not pass audio. Worth digging around in your TV menus.
Snow/Noise
I have a rooted KFHD. Get frequent snowing effect on the TV when using the HDMI cable. I believe it is the cable, but have read everywhere that HDMI doesn't get noise/snow. So could it be the device or the port?
Snow doubtful.... but snow in general is doubtful
Is this hooked direct into your tv or is there a box between.

Bassbase,
Yes, we use it weekly in the office on a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and a Kindle Fire HD 7", it works flawlessly on a 72" TV which we use for presentations with sound and at home I use a HDMI Converter on an old TV at home, it too works flawlessly with Netfix and Hulu. What apps are you using? Have you tried Hulu or Netflix? I can say Root is not needed to make the HDMI Port function properly nor does Root affect the HDMI Port. If you give me the App name we will test it in the office.
I posted this question in general and then realized there was a Q&A section. My fault...So can you mirror out to an HDTV with MHL, Slimport ect?
I'm not looking to stream anything like Netflix or Youtube but actually mirror whats going on with my phone to a big screen. Specifically using it for golf instruction with the V1 app. Thanks a lot for any answers

Supposed to via slimport only....
im using the analogix slimport adapter and it mirrors EVERYTHING off the G2 works flawless they are about 30 bucks on ebay
I'm trying find a gadget that will mirror my phone to some RCA jacks. Can someone point me in the right direction.
Basically my car has a monitor that would display anything that's being put into RCA jack in the center console.
How would I go about this?

You'd basically be looking to take a Slimport adapter to get it form the phone, to HDMI. Then use another to give you RCA outs, like this one:
Search Amazon for: Etekcity® HDMI to AV Composite RCA CVBS Video + Audio Converter For TV PS3 VHS VCR DVD
Hope you've got some good room to hide wires.

One the reasons I bought the Kindle was because of I believe it's called miracast where you can project your tablet onto your tv. What ever happened to it? Or is there something else I can do?

I forgot Android app Twonky works also, but I had problems Beaming Mythtv HD file to my SD tv. It worked otherwise.
AllCast is also an alternative if you have a roku or apple TV. I have tested it on both and movies play flawlessly. It also supports viewing pictures and streaming music.

You guys know of anything that'll work with xbox?
PlayOn works with Xbox for streaming . http://www.playon.tv/supported-devices
The miracast adapters above are needed to do full second screen mirroring. Hopefully Roku will update their device soon to allow it as well.

Yeah, personally, I'd stay away from the "HDX Certified" Netgear Push2TV device. It is utter rubish. All kinds of resolution issues (you can fix with an app, but still, shouldn't have too) & the audio is marginal at best. I have an Onkyo TX5010-NR, which is one of the baddest receivers around (& I've tested/owned lots). Chromecast will support 5.1 Dolby & PCM, so will numerous other options, including SlimPort (I have an HDMI 1.4b certified SlimPort/MyDP dongle) which also works flawlessly in regards to audio, even up to 8 channels. The NetGear HDX Certified device though only outputs 2.0 PCM. It's watchable, but nowhere near as enjoyable as other devices.
