Though it still applies here...and it's incorrect.
Killing applications, just like every other Android version, does not affect battery life.
Doesn't that only clear the apps from the recent app list? I know that not every app listed is currently running, because it lists apps that I have confirmed to be closed... (long-press back to kill FTW)

Well, anything is possible...
I thought that list was just a bunch of shortcuts to recent apps (not a cache of the actual app data), but if it is linked to the cache, then clearing it out would mean less cache data to juggle - I just didn't think that the difference would be that significant (maybe there is a bug in the memory management that causes innefficient processing... or, maybe the stock ICS ram requirement is compensated for by a lot more cache activity, which would also increase battery drain...)
But if it makes that much of a difference, then I'd like to learn more about how it actually works - if it is linked to the cache, then manual clearing might be the only reasonable method, but if it is just shortcuts, then disabling it shouldn't break anything else, and might save even more battery... this could be my ticket back to CM9 as a reasonable daily driver (without having to buy a new battery, lol)...
This has my thoughts going in several directions at once, so I'll leave this post on that incomplete thought before I end up writing a novel of half-baked ramblings

Yes but there is no writing to system so lag there should be minimal. I was having issues too, until I figured out it was the ram tweaking app doing it.

Valid point.. I was thrown off by the OP's grammar. My initial understanding was that lag was experienced during the uninstall of apps. I see, now, that he meant that uninstalling the apps didn't help with his lag.
My culprit was http://www.appbrain.com/app/autokiller-memory-optimizer/com.rs.autokiller
Which makes me sad because I made a sizeable donation to the dev.

Sorry for the poor wording - I was having issues just unlocking the screen if the browser or another app had been left on screen/running when it turned off. Sometime moving from one app to another then to another would do it and sometimes just opening something like Tweetdeck or Tapatalk from the home screen with nothing else running would do it. I was getting complete hangs lasting 30-40 sec. I don't use any task killers and had pared apps down to about 6 or 7 and was still getting unbearable lag - much worse than I ever had without Voodoo.
Just my experience so YMMV - just thought we could consolidate the issue with a poll since I was seeing similar comments in various threads but no real consensus on the issue.

After you took that off did it clear up the lag issues? Because I put that on the same night you did in IRC. Might have to put voodoo back on if autokiller is what was causing it all along. Just seemed to get slower day by day without a restart but I would love it if the app was the issue

Curious about the autokiller settings you were using. I leave it on default with aggressive as secondary when my screen sleeps. Haven't had any lag whatsoever with anything. I know sometimes things are device specific, but was just curious how you nailed this as the culprit.

I tried Curio's settings, as well as aggressive, and one other....
I nailed it down because I froze it with Titanium, which stopped it on startup and my phone started working 10000% better. I was this || close to uninstalling voodoo as the problem.
Did you try the "optimal" setting?
The settings arent the problem. The app is.

Okay so I am now using cyanogenmod stable with the Decafuct Kernel and the decafuct battery mod. Also I am using autokiller and juice defender but I'm not seeing the results everyone is talking about..... am I doing something wrong or are there better mods I need to try?

But does juice defender not toggle those options automatically?

try them both, their both wonderful. i stuck with MIUI for over a month.
I tried both of them and I think they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Right now I went back to 2.2 because NOVA dont work on 2.3. If any of you can play NOVA on cm7 or miui please let me know. MIUI has the lockscreen and pop up messages. As Cm7 has optimization tweaks and Stock aosp feel. I really want to go back but still trying to decide if I should wait.

Hey Alan, I noticed on your CM7 review the voodoo control app has Voodoo Color options. Do you know if this only appears in gingerbread builds maybe?
I have tried to find color options in the Voodoo Control app in 2.2 roms, but all there is, is Voodoo Sound options.
Thanks!
i got bricked, hay what a sad day.
i like MIUI.. i've never tried CM7 and dont know if i will.
i had miui for almost a week until earlier this morning when was playing music using the music widget, it would skip songs or not even finish a whole song then on to the next song.. weird, i didnt like that, it's probably because i was browsing through pictures at the same time on miui gallery ( buggy, makes my phone FC, sluggish) that made the songs skip?. so i went back to 2.2
i like the rom. it's very nice! very customizable and easy on the eyes.. ill get back to it when it becomes stable even if gps is still broken...

Aye, may want to check with each app's developer as well, if only for legal safety. Google Apps, for example, aren't included with CM7 due to licensing issues. Come to think of it, definitely remove any 3rd party app not licensed for redistribution ASAP just to cover yourself until you can get permission from their respective owners.

I wasn't very impressed with the Note 3's battery life at first, then I went into Settings>Application Manager and disabled a whole bunch of bloatware. Also went into each app and turned off any background update and location service if we don't need it. You can do this without root. Just take a look on this board and you'll see someone has compiled a list of apps that you can disable.
The phone now runs cooler, and yesterday, we had 14h usage and 6.5 hours display on time (auto brightness). Very impressive in my book.

Turn off all the Samsung features when you're not using them like Smart Stay and Air Gesture. The sensors are always on in certain apps when you have them enabled. Turning them on and off is easily accessible via the notification toggles. But it will only slightly help, your phone should be performing better than that even with those features running. Try a factory reset if it is safe to do with the root method.

yup. was recommended that app on the s4, great app
Download the app Wakelock Detector from the Play Store.
Open it for the first time right after you unplug your phone
After some deep sleep occurs for awhile, open Wakelock Detector and select the icon in the top right to select "Wakeup Triggers"
This will show you which app waked the device when it was trying to sleep(=screen off) and how many times it waked it. Figuring out Google wakelocks will probably help you the most unless you have some poorly written or rogue app
A good start would be to remove ALL google apps that you don't use, and turn off google ads as well as notifications and scheduled checks within say...Play Store and Youtube and Gmail

I essentially hibernate everything except system apps and widgets, just to be safe. You would also not hibernate apps that you want background notifications from. I also use the donate version, which allows me take advantage of GCM. Which, for apps that use GCM, allows me to hibernate those apps and still receive notifications.
Hope that helps =]
