Has anyone managed to get l2tp (psk) based vpn working? all my attempts keep timing out. pptp based vpn servers seem to be working fine though.
Edit* looks like the servers may be down.
Edit 2* Tried connecting from my RAZR (4.0.4) and l2tp works fine. Looks like it is a JB/Device issue.

Did you ever get your l2tp working on your nexus 7 or JB?
I have a Nexus 7 and an old Evo 4G that is running JB and neither will connect to my mountain lion l2tp vpn server when using my domain (instead of LAN). My computers connect fine using the domain.
Sorry, I know this is an old post, but I haven't seen much on this issue.

Like several other issues I've encountered, there's probably little that Samsung can do. As you can see below, other devices with Gingerbread 2.3.3 are seeing the same thing, so most likely a Gingerbread bug:

Possible I am still running jpy froyo on the Sgs... no battery drain issues and pretty much everything is working

i can without any problem connect to our company's pptp vpn (provided m0n0wall), using the KE2 firmware i should learn to read. does work with wifi, but not with 3g. sorry.
it does work tho in the following scenario: phone does wifi tethering over 3g, notebook connects to the phone's wifi and starts a pptp vpn session.

well i do, as my notebook does not have a sim-card slot and there isn't always a open wifi around.
pptp vpn works for me now properly on KG1 even in 3G
i got my nexus 7 yesterday, which was great, unfortunately, it just wont connect to my wifi and keep doing the "authenticating"....., my HTC Incredible s doing wifi very well and so is my laptop, but my nexus 7.
the router is Netcomm NB9WMAXX with WPA-PSK TKIP+AES and 2.4G band, besides i disabled MAC filter. Also i tried using static IP on my Nexus 7 but failed....
Anyone experiencing the same? Any solutions, PLZ?
am i the only one having this problem..... sigh....

Nope .. wouldn't connect to my router using the standard method, either, so I used WPS for the first time and it connected fine.
Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone else is having VPN issues with the HK Tablet and ICS firmware? I cannot connect via any of the methods and they used to work fine in HC. ICS-VPN works fine on my Note (4.04).
Are there any confirmed (stock) Rom's it's working with for the Wifi only HK tab? If so please link them and I'll give them a try.
Very frustrating not having VPN working on the device!
No problem with my corporate VPN using PPTP
Mine is HK tab with stock ICS. It seems PPTP & IPSec VPN are ok when I use Wi-Fi and PPTP is ok when I use 3G. But when I connect IPSec in 3G, my tab will reboot.

Can you let me know which is the actual ROM you are using? I'm using Stock but it was the one that was initially released so not sure if it's specific to the HK tab.
Thanks

ZSLP7. I upgraded from HC by myself.
It seems PPTP VPN sometimes will lead to GUI restart (screen turn black then lock screen and all apps exit). So bad.

Experienced the same reboot for IPSec on 3G. If you need this, try the following from the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.mjm4456.vpncillatrial
It uses the built-in VPN routing infrastructre of ICS, but without any of the reboots. Again, if you need it, worth paying for the full version. I did and use it all the time via 3G to enable me to connect to my work PC via RDP.
I figured I would add some info instead of just learning. I really like XDA-dev... and go to this site often to solve issues.
I purchased a Cisco rv220w router on sale for the purpose of building a cheap network and VPN for my android (Tablets and HTC one Phones).
I am pretty good at networking so I gave it a try. In less than a day I now have a fully working network to include a VPN server that works.
VPN for all android devices uses PPTP. I know the limits and fully realize that PPTP has issues. However it is working. The VPN is designed for connectivity, not privacy. I want to avoid censorship and wifi sniffing of passwords, etc... My solution after 3 days seems to be working.
Getting other VPN solutions to work with Android seems to be a bridge to far. If there are other VPN protocols that work please let me know and I will try them. I have devices running 4.2, 4.2 and 4.4. I have a few devices running Windows. I will use cisco any connect for windows computers. Not the best but it works.
Any improvements or suggestions are welcome.
I use OpenVPN. Works very well for Android and Macs. There's a client for Android too.
You can download the free OpenVPN image from their website, but it's limited to only 2 users. For my purpose, it works great.
I will try it. Yesterday I had to reboot the router after 3 days of no problem. It kept dropping WiFi to a tablet. I will have to keep an eye on it.
