VPN Issues with HK Tab - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone else is having VPN issues with the HK Tablet and ICS firmware? I cannot connect via any of the methods and they used to work fine in HC. ICS-VPN works fine on my Note (4.04).
Are there any confirmed (stock) Rom's it's working with for the Wifi only HK tab? If so please link them and I'll give them a try.
Very frustrating not having VPN working on the device!

No problem with my corporate VPN using PPTP

Mine is HK tab with stock ICS. It seems PPTP & IPSec VPN are ok when I use Wi-Fi and PPTP is ok when I use 3G. But when I connect IPSec in 3G, my tab will reboot.

Can you let me know which is the actual ROM you are using? I'm using Stock but it was the one that was initially released so not sure if it's specific to the HK tab.
Thanks

ZSLP7. I upgraded from HC by myself.
It seems PPTP VPN sometimes will lead to GUI restart (screen turn black then lock screen and all apps exit). So bad.

Experienced the same reboot for IPSec on 3G. If you need this, try the following from the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.mjm4456.vpncillatrial
It uses the built-in VPN routing infrastructre of ICS, but without any of the reboots. Again, if you need it, worth paying for the full version. I did and use it all the time via 3G to enable me to connect to my work PC via RDP.

PPTP VPN broken over 3G

I've run into a problem withe getting the SGS2 to connect to PPTP VPNs over 3G.
I can connect fine via wifi, but if I try connecting via 3G I get the message "Server hung up. Username or password incorrect. Try again?"
I've tried two different sims (T-Mobile Uk and Three) neither of which work but if I try exactly the same thing on my Nexus S using the same SIMs the VPNs connect fine, so I'm pretty confident that it's neither a network nor a Gingerbread issue.
I was hoping this would be something that would be fixed in the latest firmware but no luck there either.
I have dumps of the raw output from the PPTP daemon I'm trying to connect to bith when I'm trying and failing to connect via 3G and when connecting via Wifi if they would help anyone trying to track this down.
-Edit-
Just updated to the new KE2 firmware and no luck there either.
same here posted about this before.. seems a wider google bug.. but my sgs i. works fine
I've seen phones like the ZTE Blade that could't connect to VPNs at all without a firmware update but this is the first time I've encountered on that works over Wifi but not 3G.
Surely it's got to take more effort from Samsung to achieve that than just making it work properly on both
confirmed just tested with k2 firmware.. vpn pptp still not working over 3g.. back to using my sgs i since i need that functionality..
bummer
come one samsung fix. this.. this is unacceptable.. some of use need this vpn funciotnality.. just take the code from the original sgs which works.
Same problem here. I'm on KE2 firmware. I wonder if it has been fixed on KE7....
I'm reluctant to upgrade because I have several apps installed that are not available in the market for the country I'm in right now.
Just tested on k7 still broken.

How does one go about reporting this problem to Samsung? Mine was purchased on the black market in a country where it hasn't been released yet so I don't think I can do anything. Hopefully someone in the UK or South Korea, who purchased this phone from their carrier, can report this problem to their carrier or to Samsung directly.
Here is some information that may help narrow down the problem. The the PPTP connection over 3G is 100% successful when tethering the phone to PC via wifi hotspot.

When you say it was working on the original sgs, which version of Android was it tested on? This might be an issue with Android since 2.2 and not specific to SGS2. Check Issue 11277 on the google code android issue site. I can't post the actual link because I'm a new member.
Same problem my USA sgs2 runnuing lighten v1.3 no VPN over 3G
A found a way to connect to a Cisco IPsec VPN on the SGS2 and it's working on WIFI and 3G. You need to be rooted and download a program called VPN Connections 0.99 from the Softpedia website (I'm not allowed to post the link).
If you need to connect to PPTP over 3G then I'm afraid you are out of luck until Samsung does something about this problem, which they probably won't.
Same problem here.

When did the SGS2 release in USA?
Works on froyo 2.2.1 and earlier firmwares on Sgs. Initial reports are that it indeed doesn't work in gingerbread on the Sgs either.

Yes and yes. I can successfully connect to a PPTP VPN over both wifi and 3g after doing a factory reset on KF1. Before the reset, only wifi was working.
I have checked it and can confirm it does not work over 3g but only over wifi.
Thanks

Like several other issues I've encountered, there's probably little that Samsung can do. As you can see below, other devices with Gingerbread 2.3.3 are seeing the same thing, so most likely a Gingerbread bug:

Possible I am still running jpy froyo on the Sgs... no battery drain issues and pretty much everything is working

i can without any problem connect to our company's pptp vpn (provided m0n0wall), using the KE2 firmware i should learn to read. does work with wifi, but not with 3g. sorry.
it does work tho in the following scenario: phone does wifi tethering over 3g, notebook connects to the phone's wifi and starts a pptp vpn session.

Unstable wifi

My u8800 has a pretty unstable wifi. It looses the conection several times during connection. This is particurlarly annoyng when using the phone as a powerpoint remote over wifi and the conection breaks. Is there a death-grip on it? Or is it a software bug?

Well depending on what rom, if your using B133 which is possible. I recommend you upgrade to either B136 or B160 which doesn't do this.
Didnt find any wifi fix for blade in marked? Can you giive me a link?

I've updated to B136 and still have pretty awful wifi, disconnects all the time and doesn't reconnect despite my connection being remembered. Usually displays as 'disabled' when I check the settings.
I'm thinking of getting another handset it's so bad

Cannot connect to Wifi hidden SSID!
Hi there!
Huawei X5 - U8800
Android ver. 2.2.1
Kernel ver. 2.6.32.9-per
[email protected]#1
Build: B160
There is no chance to connect to Wifi hidden SSID!
I tried with previous builds also (B136).
EAP method: PEAP auth
Phase 2 auth: MSCHAPV2
Anyone knows this problem yet?
Any solutions?
Brgds,
S.
Unhide the SSID... If is the Desire HD there is an "issue" with froyo + Hidden SSID's... found out after having 3 days of the same problem, did some digging and found it doesn't like the Hidden SSID.
The other option is using a program like WiFi Connector which forces a connection to a Hidden SSID, not tried it myself but apparently is works.
Thanks for the info. I cannot "unhide" it because it is a company hidden SSID
I will try this Wifi Connector ...but i tried some other apps before without success
Any other thoughts ?
Brgds,
S.
Unfortunately it doesn't work either with Wifi connector
Any known custom ROM with this bug fixed?

Yes, I guess you'd better upgrade your wireless router coz 802.11n is way better in terms of stability and signal strength.

I personally don't think this is a bug indeed. It comes to the same problem for some USB wireless clients in the market.
I suggest that you can solve this problem by choosing "Add Wi-Fi Netword" manually. This option is at the bottom of the list. After pressing it, you'll be asked to input the SSID as well as the encryption (WEP, WPA2, ... etc). Provided that you input them correctly, you should be able to connect to that specific SSID.
Hi there!
I know how to mannualy add SSID and enc. settings... it's not problem in setting tough but in software version of Android i guess. When i set Phase 2 Auth to: MSCHAPv2 or whatever ... after i am getting back into settings Phase 2 Auth is set back to: NONE
I'am stuck ...
I guess you need to ask your IT colleagues if they have enforced additional security in their wifi setup like MAC address allow list and limited DHCP.

Cm7 and tethering...

Hey all, just updated to cm7 (jt, you are my hero). I was wondering what I need to download for tethering. I tried using the old wifi_tether app I had from froyo and what not but it does not seem to be working. Any ideas?

Barnacle works if all you need is ad hoc (tethering a windows machine), but I haven't found anything that will do access point.
You don't need to download anything... it's built in. Go to: Settings --> Wireless and networks --> Tethering and portable hotspot

Yes, it's there, but doesn't work on my phone. Have you successfully tethered with it?
I use barnacle as well and it works great on my laptop running windows 7 and I have never had any issues with wireless devices and ad-hoc I let friends from work pull from my wifi all the time, maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones

The issue arises if you're trying to tether an android tablet. They won't use ad hoc out of the box.

Android WIFI Tether should works great for me. I am able to do the wpasuplicant authentication again as well. This app is no longer in the android market so you will have to download direct from the source. There is an updated beta version which does work in CM7 7/17 release.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta2.apk&can=2&q=
No offense, but I feel Barnacle is crap. It is one of the only WIFI tether apps that is unable to do WPA authentication. WEP can be cracked in under 5 minutes with open source tools which leaves you vulnerable to man in the middle attacks. The CM7 hotspot even does WPA.

VPN works fine in Wi-Fi but not with 3G

I'm hopeless here. I have a paid VPN service, and it works perfectly with my PC, with my mobile on Wi-Fi and with my friend's mobile also on 3G, but not on mine. For sure there's something wrong with my device. I tried hard reset, different ROMS and all different servers and settings.
It does connect to the VPN and it keeps up the connection, but internet just doesn't work. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I tried to search other threads about this, but no success.
Thanks

vpn thrue 3g and mobile connection
hi
reason, routing.
1. you have to setup your vpn connection to route any data between your vnp-connection.
or
2. you use another apn who route unsecured and secured data to different routes.
(secured data = VPN, unscured Data => www)
Check the isp apn if it use a stateful paket inspection firewall. this apn can ussually only route secured data (vpn).
Its no bug its a feature to solve some problems like too much connections, timeouts, reduction of hacker attack surface, and more..
you can find this information in the special vpn-whitepaper from your isp.
i hope this helps you.
How does the go to my p.c. app work?Is it pretty good app. Thanks

When you set up the VPN on your phone, make sure you fill out the forwarding fields as 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 otherwise no traffic will be forwarded through it. Testing on wifi from the same location as the host is a miserable way to test VPN as it tells you nothing. Turn off the wifi, and always test on your mobile data. There ARE carriers out there that WILL filter out VPN connections for normal user accounts and require you sign up under a business-class account to use such connectivity, this is because they want more money from you, and to not give you an easy way to get around their tethering detection. Plus in some countries, you're not allowed to possess the capability to encrypt and secure your own data/traffic and the means of encryption are banned (and therefore filtered "on-the-wire").
Use VPN Service that has open port. Like http://xtreamvpnworld.blogspot.com ive been using it for more than a year. I got no problem.
