Really enjoying the Nexus 7, but does anyone know if there is a option or workaround to enable the Keyboard "pop up on key press" option,
It's a option on the Gnex under settings, language & input, android keyboard setting
but there is no option on the Nexus 7
Thanks Brad
I couldn't agree with this comment more. Can someone assist on this?
I would also like to know that as well. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!
Try swiftkey for this functionality.
Hacker's Keyboard also has the "pop up" feature.

Thanks for your replies. I would prefer not to install a third party keyboard as I like to keep things simple and default. In addition i also use the Greek language keyboard and I wouldn't know if those keyboards support it. Wouldn't that be done by a mod or some file editing? The functionality is there in the Galaxy Nexus. Any devs or people with knowledge? Thanks!

Hi Brad, I have the exact same question as yourself. Shame there doesn't seem to be an inbuilt answer.
I noticed you've been a member since 2007, but, you've only ever posted once? You sir, are indeed a man of few words. I have given you a Thanks for your original post. So, now, your Thanks cherry has been poped. I'm so glad to be your first.
Have fun. Anil

i love the keyboard but i was wondering if there is anything out there that is as intelligent as the iphone keyboard. For instance, the software, over time, recognizes the general area of where your thumb presses a key and adjusts so you always hit the key. anyone know what i am talking about?
well anyone know of any keyboard that does that or if the new pocketcm will have it?
i can search online,or you can come www.fine-nike.com to find, there are have many products,as like shoes, clothes, and so one
From David Pogue:
"* Although you don’t see it with your eyes, the sizes of the keys on the iPhone keyboard are changing all the time. That is, the software enlarges the “landing area” of certain keys, based on probability.
For example, supposed you type “tim.” Now, the iPhone knows that no word in the language begins timw or timr—and so, invisibly, it enlarges the “landing area” of the E key, which greatly diminishes your chances of making a typo on that last letter. Very cool."
That is what i mean.

anyway, as said above ^^^, touchpal has mistyping correction built-in. i personally dont care much for that keyboard.
but something GREAT that i didnt even know about is...the standard htc touch keyboard kind of has it!!
you can try typing "timw" and get time! just make sure and go into the input settings, and check all boxes. do not, however, check "multi-tap correction". this i think does help improve typing prediction a little, but it prevents the keyboard from searching your contacts in "to:" fields.
hope this helps!
Hey all - app request to the developer crowd.
I am looking for an app that will allow the keyboard to be auto selected dependent on certain apps,
ie.
Internet Explorer / Opera = samsung keyboard / fingerkeyboard
SMS / Email = Phonepad
if its too difficult to code to auto select, how about making the on screen SIP selector assignable to a hardkey - the little pop up drives me crazy..I either press the right hand softkey or I press and press and press and nothing happens..
Thanks all
I'm rocking a Samsung Omnia - WinMo 6.5 from Sector @ Modaco.
Hope someone can help with this little app.
That's a really great idea. (You could do with MortScript and VJSwitchSIP, but it'd be messy.) It'd be nice to have one app that'd do it.
Can I bump this in case anyone out there can make such an app.
it seems it would get interest from the community.
please anyone reading this post add a comment saying if you would find this useful
Cheers

I think this could be kinda cool,
but I use the same keyboard for everything,
so I wouldn't have any use for this.
I'll consider mucking around with it

I really appreciate you considering coding this app. I know it would be very useful.
if you want a tester just send it my way..happy to help where I can,
kind of wish I could code myself..

TouchLockPro has a built in SIP changer, which depends on the Stylus position or Keyboard (Touch Pro). I do not know if it works also on Omnia, you could try. The source code can also be downloaded, so the interesting part can be reused.
I dont understand why HTC didn't just use the Desire's keyboard. Instead just added really annoying arrows, and in result I find myself constantly hitting these arrows instead of the space or enter keys. Typing is a mess.
Well, no longer. Just wanted to let you guys know jonasl's modded htc keyboard works PERFECTLY. NO MORE ARROWS. YAY!

Actually Swype was the first thing I tried. But its not for me. I can type fast using swype but faster on a qwerty. Also, I am constantly typing in different languages and sometimes I simply cannot rely on any kind of prediction.

I realize this is kind of weird, but have you tried just using the Swype keyboard like a normal keyboard? for some reason I feel like it is easier to use than the other keyboard that way. And you could always practice with swyping, you might get pretty good at it!

I did! But sometimes I move so fast between keys it actually thinks I'm swiping. Plus It would still try to "correct' words that were typed in another language into english, no matter how accurately I touched each button.

You might try Shapewriter out. I believe you can add custom libraries to it, so you could add other languages you type in the same file as your English library.
How is swype for dealing with words that aren't necessarily regularly part of the english language? I tend to use my phone for searching for device model numbers for example, and sense annoys me somewhat because it autocorrects words that aren't actually words but model nomenclatures.

good, you can add words to the swype dictionary by typing it in and pushing the "swype key"

You must be really slow at Swype if you're faster with QWERTY. @[email protected]
I also like SmartKeyBoard Pro which is more IPHONE like for some.
But bottom line folks is that you have choices. If this were an IPHONE and you didn't like the keyboard what options for you have? That is the main point of arguement between the two camps.
Both have their good points and bad points. We are not required to buy either. We can go back to the Motorola Razr Ver(xx) if we wanted to.
If the new IPHONE had at least a 3.8 or 4.0 screen I would use my upgrade and get one to have. But I am very happy with the EVO and I look foward to Froyo 2.2 update that has everything working on it.
I just want to double check with someone that owns one of these, but I type in Japanese a lot and I'd like to know how easy it is to switch between Japanese and English input, if at all possible, on one of these.
Of course, if it's easy like in iOS, I'll definitely pick one up, but I need confirmation about the language support.
Thank you.
Easy. You would download an app (usually free, not sure about Japanese) to input that language. Switching is very easy to do - click tap the keyboard symbol on the bottom of the screen.

I see. Is there any way to figure out if the app exists beforehand? Is it native by chance?
,_,
Indeed. I am quite interested in this as well. I would go as far as to say that it is a selling point.
Being able to switch on the fly between kana input and direct input mode inside Polaris Office would be a nice feature.
Can someone please make an in-depth review of this , i would really appreciate it!
The Eee Pad Transformer is not yet released in my country so sadly i can't test out the features but from some reviews I've seen , specifically one made for the Galaxy S II in which the Polaris Office app is presented there's this button which looks like a language input/method selector, so i'd guess that's the button you are referring to?
Ok so i'll answer this myself since i just received the transformer and played with it all day.
There are 2 "keyboard" inputs , one supplied by asus , which is pretty cool since it has that swype technology and the android one. None supporting Japanese.
There's only voice input method for it , or you could try a 3rd party keyboard app, called Simeji which works pretty well.
One can hope though , i'm pretty sure we'll see one in a future update from either asus or in the next installment of android, ice cream sandwich.
I can confirm Japanese works fine. I browse japanese pages and write japanese text no problem. There are many japanese input modules in the market. The best are Simeji and OpenWnn. If you want a tablet that works fine with Japanese language the transformer is great!

How does that answer the OPs question?
OP: That usually means you haven't finished something yet but it seems weird that it happens on the first option. Have you tried a reinstall?
