Jelly Bean for TF101 Confirmed - Eee Pad Transformer General

Update: Asus Germany denies that their colleagues from the Netherlands have made such a statement about TF101/SL101, adding that they only confirmed Android 4.1 upgrade for TF201/TF300/TF700 tablets and that it is just pure speculation. According to their current information TF101 and SL101 users will enjoy Android 4.1 upgrade too. Here’s the whole statement made by Asus Germany on their Facebook page.

Pretty Amazing. An Alpha-1 release, and the biggest problem right now appears to be the camera.

yesss very nice

JB isn't that much different from ICS. Nothing to get excited about.

Have you actually used Jelly Bean? Performance is fantastic, Project Butter really makes everything so smooth. That is a very significant feature for me, and I'm sure it is for a lot of other people.

I am currently Using Jellybean by Team EOS And let me tell your..... ITS A GOOGLE MARICLE
Its Fast
ItS Smooth
It has higher Graphics Performace on Games [Tested Dead Trigger with Tegra 3 Fx]
Its Overall an IOS Killer
P.s
Currently i am using Chrome which worked **** on ICS Plus Just imagin all of this is an a 1st Beta......
I Tried Jelleybean and its current flaws on the Beta but with its consitancy I Plan on staying with it! [BYE ICS] Oh and Ty ASUS For Keeping US !

asus have proved to me why I should be their loyal customer... fast update.. and they don't dump their old customer... and even good news is asus made the nexus 7.. they'll get my money for that soon enough..
currently EOS JB rom too... performance was superb.. though it is still not perfect... can't wait for official release! any news when?

Yeah he's used Jelly Bean... he has a Galaxy Nexus and so do I but I totally disagree with player911.
Jelly Bean is more of a 'behind the scenes' optimized version of Android. Project Butter is HUGE, although it may not look like so but the overall responsiveness of Android OS is SUPERB and I have a feeling that this is just the beginning. When comparing ICS to JB, it is absolutely night and day difference.
Can't wait for a finalized ROM with all the features we love in a bug free ROM

i installed team eos jb rom. while it does much smoother then ics, it's not stutter free. low frame rate occurred when you happened to run active running process in the background. but it is huge improvement compared to ics. now with live wallpaper, sliding between home screen is still very smooth.

I was just getting ready to post that also as I just saw it on FB. Glad the Tegra 3 devices are getting it. I hope they decide to bring it to the Tegra 2 devices also, since I own one of them. If not, then I'll wait for the devs and custom JB roms.

I don't have a transformer, but I'll second that. "Project butter" makes it sound gimmicky, but It really is a significant difference.

I installed the Cyangenmod 10.0 Preview yesterday and was very surprised by how smooth it was already. I am yet to have a FC on the rom, not to say one will not come.

CyanogenMod 9!

It's official! CyanogenMod 9 is coming to the eeePad Transformer!
CM 9 Progress Update
We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress

Exactly what I was thinking. I love Prime and the work roach has been doing, but when I can get CM on the tablet, I will go running.
what's the advantage of CM vs Prime rom ?
Its Vanilla ICS. Most stable best battery life and best performance.
You have to try it to actually realize the differance. Which is like day and night

It'll be interesting to see what the difference is. CM is usually better than stock firmware sure so being as lean and cut-back as possible while still adding in extremely useful features.
Asus have done a great job of keeping their firmware bloat-free though, so it may not be too different, performance-wise. The biggest advantage will probably come from extended support. Asus probably won't upgrade the TF101 past 4.0 - having CM pretty much ensures that it will get every version of Android in the future so long as somebody is interested in getting it running.

A lot of the "bloat" Asus has added is incredibly useful. Polaris Office is really nice, and unavailable if Asus didn't include it. Same with Supernote, which is pretty good for free. Splashtop, again, expensive software included for free.
The **** I hate is them bundling things like Netflix... it's freely available on the market, and only available in select regions, why on earth would you bundle that?

Android 4.1 - Jelly Bean

Looks like the launch of Jelly Bean is around the corner, coming to Galaxy Nexus shortly, read this: http://www.androidcentral.com/android-41-jelly-bean-outed-google-play-store-listing-coming-soon-galaxy-nexus
If this is the case, I think it is reasonable to assume the upcoming Asus Nexus 7 tablet will be launched with Jelly Bean as well. With an Asus tablet being the first with Jelly Bean, I can't see the transformer family being that far behind. Pretty psyched, good chance we could have Jelly bean in month or two!
EDIT: New development, Nexus 7 tablet details leak online here http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/06/this-is-googles-new-nexus-tablet-the-nexus-7/ The Nexus 7 will run Jelly Bean and will hit Australia (Australian leak) in July with 8gb version at US$199 and 16gb version US$249.
How about Jelly Bean for our device by the end of August .
I wonder what's new in it. Probably not a huge update but still must be big.

Odd I've never had turn disable LTE on my RAZR MAXX.
On a more serious note except for whichever 2.x version introduced the dalvik cache I can't recall any major OMG I needed this feature added. Each update was progressively better but nothing like Gingerbread to ICS.

Processors are differents, even if it's Tegra 3 belongs.
There is a Kai version (ASUS Google 7) and a version Kal-El (Prime- TF300T - Infinity HD)
I hope to make a mistake about the updatings
I am looking forward to this, and the logic seems pretty good that we will get it fairly quickly after release.
Things i am expecting from google IO
various bug fixes and increase performance/stability increases
offline maps
new 3d views of cities in Maps
a siri like application (hopefully with even more functionality)
what i would love
i know it is minor, but would love some new wallpapers (current ones are ugly IMO)
ability to add buttons to nav bar
search button in notification "dropdown/ pull up"
HD contact picture syncing support
some new camera features
maybe some browser enhancements (make it as fast/smooth at chrome but keeping the look and functionality of the stock browser (quick controls, FLASH))

Yes, but your logic has the assumption that Asus worked in a bubble developing the Nexus Tablet. I wouldn't be surprised if parallel work was be being done on integrating Jelly Bean with other tablets for updates . This is all speculation at this point and only time will tell.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

So Jelly Bean is coming. It has some really cool features. Looking forward to see it on our beloved G2. Is it even possible?
http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html
It will also be launched for the Nexus S so the G2 should be capable of running it smothly!
It doesn't seem like that big of a jump compared to the leap from Gingerbread to 4.0. I think the devs will sort it out quickly :good:

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, that in no way is meant to imply it will be even slightly easy, but I think it will be easier than gingerbread to ICS Hopefully! I will be buying the Nexus 7 anyways so no big worries for a rush there, but I would still love to have it on my phone!
Project Butter improves Android 4.1's speed to a silky-smooth 60FPS
As part of its unveiling of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google has unveiled Project Butter, a major effort to squash Android's frequent problems with device lag, as well as Systrace to help diagnose performance. Project Butter lets the CPU and graphics run in parallel, rather than crash into each other, and has a big impact on both real and perceived speed: the entire interface runs at 60 frames per second on sufficiently fast hardware. Graphics are now triple-buffered to keep scrolling and transitions humming along, and the processor will swing into full gear the moment you touch the screen to keep input lag to a minimum. Systrace, in the meantime, will help developers stamp out what performance hiccups remain. The tracing tool will be a part of the Jelly Bean SDK, so every coder can get an app running in tip-top shape.

If the G2 is not officially getting ICS it wont get this. We still dont even have the official drivers needed for ICS, probably won't (we're waiting for the ones from the Desire HD to be released).
If there is one thing I learned from this experience is to get a Nexus device.
Thanks

I'm really hoping that our talented G2 devs can at least get Jelly Bean on our devices. I'm not going to expect anything beyond that however, given the age of our phones. All that talk about Jelly Bean's "Project Butter" has me worried, though. The only major bugs left in our ICS roms are mostly graphics related (garbled text, random visual glitches), this may be a large roadblock for us.
For an "incremental" 0.1 update, they've packed quite a bit of improvements.

Wouldn't those updates be related to CPU scheduling stuff and other „interesting” parts like that ? I mean, if we get the graphics stack done for 4.0 (HTC, where is that goddamn Desire HD update ?!) it wouldn't be that much of a bother to add some optimizations here and there.
Alas, I am not a dev and no one has seen the source code yet. Better wait for the source to come out and someone to look at it before making assumptions
If the devs can get 4.0 working, 4.1 shouldn't be that big of a deal. We just REALLY need that Desire HD update to come out.
As someone else said, you would need the G2/Vision to get ICS officially before you can have much hope at all of it getting JellyBean. Though we got a lot of ICS roms for the G2 (With the exception of the camera working as well as GB) so who knows.

But since they named android 2.2 CM6 and 2.3 CM7 you maybe right.
To anwser your question: No it is not too early because devices with CM9 wont run any slower just because there is an beter and newer CM. So it will only speed up development. The only negative play here could be jealousy towards galaxy nexus users.

The CM team has officially stated that their numbering scheme is tied to the code name. That's why they skipped CM8. It corresponded to Honeycomb, which they never ported.

Not necessarily. Android updates tends to be updated every 6 months or so if I recall. ICS was late last year, so it kind of makes sense. My guess is that development has seemed slow for several reason.
1) Drastic changes, especially in the camera, from 2.3 to 4.0
2) Honeycomb never was truly "released", thus a gap that allowed Gingerbread to be polished.
3) CM servers were down for a while, possibly cutting into early nightlies for CM9.
I had a fourth point and now I can't remember it. Maybe something about manufacturers being slow this time around. I remember reading that it typically took manufacturers 60 days on average to update their devices after a release. Seems longer now (again, possibly with changes).
Maybe I'm completely off. I didn't join the Android team until 2.2 so I never knew the older versions.

At this point it's better to not even try and predict what ASUS has planned for the TF101. Either way, the Devs. are already well on the way to having stable JB ROMs released soon. Hell, some people say the early test builds are good enough to be used as daily drivers.

I've tried the first 3 initial releases and cm10 preview was the the best, but not without issues. At least I could watch Netflix and YouTube videos. Team eos was OK but videos didn't work. I'm getting ready to try the 2nd version of rayman33's attempt to see how it has progressed, this time with a full backup just done for my Gummy setup. I've grown pretty fond of the Gummy ICS iteration of aokp and look forward to what they may do with JB. I used Revolver for a long while before, but he's gotten a little slower on the updates lately. I may have to check out a 'pure' aokp and see how that compares to Gummy. I also tried Steeldroid's aokp ICS and it looked really good, too. I just didn't like it always asking at bootup which launcher I wanted to use when I'd already answered once. One other thing I experienced with the JB builds that I didn't like was that web pages in dolphin HD on the forum threads here and some other sites rendered with a washed out or greyed out look, like when you you're looking at email and they've been marked read already.

It appears that rayman33 has made amazing progress with his 2nd release. If I wasn't spending most of my time with my new Nexus 7, I'd give it a shot right now. My current setup is pretty generic. Stock .27, with rayman's Harmony 66 kernel running @ 1.4GHz. Pretty boring, but it just works. I've given up on Dolphin on the Nexus 7 w/JB. I'm using Chrome and Firefox Beta for Flash sites.

No, this is the transformer pad: http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-300/features/
Better known as TF300
JB seems like a fairly boring update. So I really don't care if my TF101 gets it or not. I just want Asus to make ICS more stable.

Chrome doesn't. Firefox beta and nightly do.
Asus calls the 300t by the same name they called the tf101. We may not see it officially until all the others get it. Thankfully Asus kept it simple and all they do is port the Prime/300t build over to our device.

I am jealous - ASUS Now Pushing Jelly Bean To The TF300

I want JB 2
I know there is some costume Roms but they have some bugs and i love the stock one,
Hope we will get some love too
Stock has traditionally had more bugs than custom roms so i really dont see the point of waiting for asus
Yeah I just saw the news ((

I think people should be more about this.
Every Asus tablet that gets JB is one closer to us getting it.
Which is not to say we will get it for sure but obviously the 700,300, and 201 will get it before we do.
Just my opinion but the Infinity is now the current flagship of the Transformers and the 300 was just a stopgap after the 201 fiasco. So sales must be lagging and this JB upgrade is just another gimmick to make the 300 more attractive. A price rollback will be more convincing IMO.
Theres new Asus tablets coming in the near future with Chrome O.S and my understanding is they have more Google tablets coming aswell.
Asus will also be one of the first to launch a Windows8 tablet but the deal is that they have to let Windows unleash their own built devices first for a certain period of time.
If correct then i can only imagine that after Jellybean we may not see much more in the way of O.S upgrades on any of the current Asus range.
(Asus rep was in my work place on Thursday - no mention of JB for Tf101)

New binaries definitely help too.
I'm not jealous because EOS3 is running JB and so far its about the best my tf101 has ever run before!
Did Asus ever settle on whether or not they were actually going to officially support JB on the tf101? Last I had heard they said only the Prime and newer were getting it officially..

Now, Im jelly!!! Where can I get a COSTUME ROM???? JK!!!!
Just got me a TF101. Its running Megatron 1.1.6 with Guevor's 21.5 kernel. I like JB (ran it on my A500) but will wait a little bit longer for the builds to get fully baked.
Is JB really that big of deal? I mean I get it new versions of OS are always good but does it really do much?

On my A500 I did see improved performance between ICS and JB. There is always going to be something newer and better around the corner. At some point a particular device will hit its maximum acceptable performance limit and the availability of new ROMs will come to a halt. Throughout the lifecycle you deal with the tradeoffs. Performance/stability/usability.
JellyBean made everything smoother on my TF with butter.

I have JB 4.1.1 on my Nexus 7, and I don't think it's that much better than ICS. ...But, some people think it's much better.

I like the eye candy of it. The lockscreen really looks neat and it feels much smoother in transitions compared to ICS and Honeycomb. (For me personally)
One word.... BUTTER
