My bookmarks widget doesn't seem to want to grab screen caps from some of my websites. Anyone else with this issue or a trick to force it to update them?

None of my synced bookmarks have acquired an image yet. A couple of the new ones I've added on the N7 have got an image, but so far I've only added 5 new ones in total.

These are all new ones that were added directly to Chrome, none were synced. I've clicked on all of them numerous times in an attempt to get it to grab the images, but to no avail.
Anyone find a solution? I am also having this problem. The widget looks terrible without the thumbnails. Out of about 25 bookmarks, my widget only displays one thumbnail (Google News)
mine stopped grabbing screenshots also. anyone can help?
I am also experiencing this issue. Anyone find a solution yet?
I have tried all sorts of things to get the thumbnails working, such as clicking on them in the widget, browsing manually to the sites in chrome etc.
After much messing I finally had all my thumbnails on the widget.
When I turned my nexus on later, all but two of them had blanked again.
So... 4.1.2 is here and this still seems broken. Has ne1 discovered why some bookmarks create thumbnails and others don't?
Still broken in 4.2.1. I am relatively new to Android, do common things just stay broken forever?
Hi,
I am also having this problem...this has been happening since I got my first nexus 7...i am on my third one now. It also happens on my galaxy s2...it's so odd that there is no fix this...Is it just me, or do the generic thumbnail icons look like Mortal Kombat signs?
Clearing the browsing history has solved this problem for me.
1) Open a new tab in your Chrome app and press the menu button on your Android device to access History.
2) Select 'Clear Browsing Data' at the bottom of your screen.
3) Only select 'Clear browsing history' and press Clear. You do not need to clear your cache, cookies, saved passwords, or autofill data.
4) Exit out of Chrome and also kill Chrome's application process. On most Android devices, you can do this by long pressing the home button to bring up a list of active apps or task manager.
5) All bookmark thumbnails on your widget should now be clear. If not, then enter and exit a bookmark folder on your widget. If you do not have folders, then open and close Chrome. Basically you need to refresh the screen. If your old thumbnails have not cleared, repeat step 4.
6) Now rebuild your bookmark thumbnails by visting each bookmark from INSIDE Chrome. Visiting bookmarks directly from the widget will NOT work. Open a new tab and press the menu button on your Android device to access Bookmarks. Visit a bookmark and allow the page to load completely. Press the menu Button again to access Bookmarks and repeat as needed.
About 22 to 24 thumbnails will be created assuming after you cleared the History, you only visited your bookmarked pages. After a certain thumbnail cache limit is reached within Chrome, it will stop generating thumbnails for your widget.
Through many tests I've come to determine that Chrome is creating thumbnails of pages in your History regardless of the page being a bookmark. So if you visit 20 non-bookmarked websites, and then 10 bookmarks, only the first few bookmarks' thumbnails will be created on the widget. However if you revisit one of the non-bookmarked website and bookmark it, then you will see it on the widget with a thumbnail.
I hope this works for other people and that my explanation was helpful.
THANKS A LOT IT WORKS
You're a genius
I set my mother up with android by getting her a phone and two tablets. She only knows how to use the bookmark widget (full size of home screen, single page). Hopefully the chrome devs can fix their shiet within another year or two

Where i can found it??its very Amazing...
It is...
(Sorry for my English. ) ...not been created yet, but i hope, someone can make it!
This is just some Idea and Animation with MS-Paint.
And again (just like i wrote in the german coop-forum ) i totally agree with this but am of the opinion, that the email-style would not be too productive/userfriendly. Some kind of Twitterlike layout with the channel-symbols at the side would work waaayyyy better
- There can be p.ex. only two feeds listed on one "email-paper" (and only in preview-form as well)
- What happens when you click on a paper (which feed/article gets opened?)?
I thought it could be like this (maybe with some more eyecandy ):

Great Idea with the big Symbols. One Suggest for Handling is this:
1. There could be the latest Update of News showen in 3-Lines Text, so you can read-in and there is more than just Headlines. So there would be one Letter per one Update (and if no Updates are aviable, there will be no Letter).
- If there is A Video at one new Headline, or A Picture or Music-File, than you see just one Haedline per Paper-Sheet with A Thumbnail.
2. When you click at one Letter, A List with all Headlines could start - at the Position of the Date of the Update, you clicked at. If there are less than 4 Headlines, you see 1 complete opened and you scroll to the next by moving the Finger from right to the left, like at your Emails.
3. My aditional Idea is to put this together with you Email-Client, HTML-Client, Twitter, Facebook - so there would be one Symbol for each Componente. In Mail-Accounts you scroll like before, SMS the same, HTML: there you see Thumbnails of Favorites and last opened Sessions. In Twitter or Facebook, you see latest Updates on the Screen - aditional Options and Handling could be integrated in Menus or by starting the whole App. - There could also other Mailclients be integrated like Skype or iCQ with Symbols at the Sidebar.
-
Some other Option is, to put this Menu on the Screen with Icons for single Messenger-Apps in Lines,
just with the Numbers (for Updates) at the Bar downside. So Messaging+ Surfing Apps-, Cellphone-Apps and Tools-, Multimedia-Apps could be collected together (Photos, MP3, Youtube+ Videos), Explorer could be integrated at the Sense Homescreen (also with Icons in Lines, animated like that)
and be used for all Apps the same one (also rar-Zipp-App), And:
4. there could be some Manager for Programms and running Programms, running Status too (like Battery, Calendar, ...) at the Homescreen for Sense.
Collecting Things together would be good, because if there will be more Widgets for Sense, you have to scroll through 20 or more Icons! in one Line. - More than one Line with all this (Home, Email, SMS, Twitter, RSS, PDF, ......) sorted in Categories will be necessary. The Lines could be animated like Rings and with glowing-Effects.
With this, there would be integrated the Homescreen, the Explorer and Browser, the Taskbar and the Start-Screen with Programs, also the Settings-Screen.
This idea has been bought up so many times, but no one has developed it yet. I literally have been on the watch for 3 years for it. Seems like it gets mentioned then dies out like:

My Xoom is getting replaced for some cosmetic damage (weird dent in the back rubber out of the box). Anyway, I have been playing with it a lot while waiting on my replacement to get here...only thing is I have spent some time customizing my homescreens the way I want them. Is there a way to backup my current setup or will I have to reorganize it again when I get my replacement? Thanks for any help.

Some people are saying that your apps and settings will be restored automatically. Not sure about the home screen configs though. I will not know until middle of next week when I sign into my new Xoom that will replace the one I have now (twenty-five percent off lucky bastard).

If you backup your contacts etc. to your google account, you will get them back on the new device when you sign into your google account. you will also be able to re-download your apps as well as they are tied to your google account also.
Your homescreens/widgets won't be saved. On phones when you're using a custom launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro, you can backup your homescreen locales, but as far as I know there is no way to do that with the stock launcher on 2.3 or 3.0.
well crap...the homescreen config is what I cared about, that sucks.
Maybe someone can help me then, because here's my main problem:
I sync my Xoom bookmarks with my Chrome bookmarks. The problem is my Chrome looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Notice all the favicons with no text? Well, when I sync them with my Xoom, it just shows a bunch of blank tabs without names (because I remove them in Chrome). So I went through and added most of my bookmarks as icons on one of my homescreen pages, so I can see the favicons relevant to each. It took FOREVER to do. Is there an app or anything that will let me see my bookmark favicons correctly?
I mean I'm sure it took you some time, but it takes no time at all to get rid of that text in Chrome.

Right, and I don't want the text in Chrome because I know what the site is based off it's favicon, but the problem is on my Xoom it doesn't show the text or favicon, so I just have a bunch of blank bookmarks. They work when I click them, but I have no idea which one I am clicking. The only way I can see the favicon is by going to +/More/Bookmark and adding it to the desktop manually. I need a way I can see my bookmark favicons on my Xoom to know what bookmark I'm clicking.
I swear I used to get an interactive weather card when I tapped it that have me an hourly slider and now when I tap the card I get the same card followed underneath with a bunch of websites related to weather. This is happening on all 4 android phones. Did I dream it used to give me a card with a slider?

I get the same but weirdly I have a gap between the card and search results which, iirc, was where the slider used to be?
i see google updated 'google search' and google now on feb 14 with 'new' weather cards and other updates. looks like they took this feature away. dammit i have 'eye in the sky' weather but it galls me to always have to go to 3rd party apps for something as simple and elegant as the hourly slider to see the weather. i ride bikes alot during the day and used that to help gauge when it is raining and not to get a riding window in.

I miss this feature a lot!!! They really took away from Google Now by doing this IMO.
Google Now used to open the browser. you can do this yourself, but it sucks that Google Now is not integrated in the same way.
if you open chrome and in the address bar type 'weather' it will take you to the same screen that Google Now used to.
Same issue, sucks that slider was dope.
You can just go to Google in Chrome but I liked it better the way it was before.

The problem is tapping the weather card used to send "weather" as a url to the browser, but now it sends it to search. You can get the old card by typing weather in the browser until they fix it.

This started happening with my Nexus 7 months ago and I didn't know why it suddenly stopped. I was happy that it was still being displayed on my Nexus 4, but that just stopped as well in the last couple of weeks.
I noticed that you can still get the slider without having to manually type "weather" into the omnibox. Just:
i) scroll down then up and you should see a scrollable menu pop up at the bottom of the content window.
ii) Swipe from right to left on that menu and you should see a "phone" icon.
iii) Click on that, you'll get the option of searching weather again and some links will be displayed. Just click the Google Search link and it will show the results with the old slider.
This is a lot more cumbersome and annoying, so I hope they fix this soon.

hey there,
i was searching the web, but no success finding solution to my problem.
i am developing a simple home screen widget, and each time adding OR removing images from drawable folders, and relaunch the application onto emulator OR device, it messes up the images.
here is an example:
this is a screenshot of the widget before making changes at drawable folders:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and here is the screenshot of whats going on after changing drawable folders contents, and relaunching app from eclipse:
it takes random images that meant to appear at config activity, and i don't understand why.
i don't wanna post code, because there is a lot of it, and there are a bunch of classes, just wanted to ask if someone had similar problem, and if this is an eclipse bug, or it might be some problem with code.

Did you clean the project first (in one of the menus there is the option clean...). That helped me when I was not seeing my resources being updated. And it might also be that you have to readd the widget to the home screen if you haven't tried already.

Thanks for your reply.
Yea i did try cleaning project, but it didn't help.
I see all resources just fine, and there is no problem if i relaunch app with no changes at drawables.
The problem occurs only when i add, or delete images in the project.
And yes, if i re-add the widget to home screen the problem disappears,
but my big fear is that my users will have to re-add their widgets after i will publish an updated apk to google play.
I guess I'll have to publish a test apk, and see what happens on update.

OK that's what I guessed as well... strange
I haven't done much with Homescreen widgets so far, but my guess would be to manually update the widget when your app is updated (via AppWidgetManager.notifyAppWidgetDataChanged()??!). Maybe this question can help.
The other option would be to debug which calls you get in the widgetProvider on updating the app. And make sure you didn't change any resource or Reveiver names!

Well, I've uploaded the new version to google play, and after updating the app everything messed up.
I'll come back here after debugin.
Ok, i came to update this post, just in case someone will face this problem, maybe this will help ))
After duin some more projects, i have found that this images mess happened only when i saved id's in shared preferences ))
For example, R.drawable.myimage was saved in shared prefs in order to asign saved image to imageview. Editor.putInt(SELECTED_IMAGE, R.drawable.myimage).
But after making changes in drawable folder, i guess all drawables get new id's, that is why next time when the app is updated, it showed random images.
And ofcourse the same behaiviour was not only with widgets.
the images was messed up everywhere i used setBackgroung(sp.getInt(SELECTED_IMAGE, R.drawabe.myimage)
Hi,
Just updated to Lollipop (UK unbranded) and after copying all of my pictures back onto the device, Instagram & Whatsapp etc, the stock gallery is sorting odd pictures out of order. If I look at the folders via a file explorer they're all in the correct order but for some reason they aren't in the gallery. I can't see any options any where to sort the gallery other than by time or album so what am I missing? I've been doing the same process of backing up pictures and copying them back on for years and never had this problem.
I've also downloaded QuickPic and if I sort via name they're all in the correct order, as they should be since the filename includes the date for everything, so why is the native Gallery doing this? I've tried recopying the folders that are doing it, clearing the gallery cache and data but it's still the same.
What is happening?!
Anyone?!
No ideas anyone?

Hey there!
I think your problem is the Gallery app sorts pictures by Album and by time and many other categories you should swipe the menu and set it to album like this picture.

That's normal because after installing a new ROM and factory reset your Note the Gallery app will set on stock settings.
Sent from my Note 4
It's already set to sort by album and it's mostly correct but in some albums, not all, a number of pictures aren't sorted where they should be but I can't see why. For instance the oldest picture in the Whatsapp images folder isn't the last image in the folder, it's like the 54th or something. If I look in file explorer it is the last picture.
