Hi there,
I have a G1 with the following stats:
Model number: HTC Dream
Firmware: 1.6
Baseband version: 62.52S.20.18H_2.22.20.23
Kernel: 2.6.29.6 [email protected] )
Build number: dream-user 1.6 DRC83 14721 ota-rel-keys
Production team: hiapk.com Ver 3.121_g1_ionS
I would like to upgrade to Android 2.2. but I didn't find any threads or tutorials on how to proceed. I've only found some threads which deal with different RC numbers and I'm afraid if I procede using these tutorials with my actual rc number (83) I might have problems.
Could please somebody help me upgrading my G1?
thanx a lot!
the best way is still to downgrade, exploit the phone then upgrade. I suggest looking at cyanogens wiki for basic root and upgrade, although there are lots of threads all over xda on how to do this search around a bit and I'm sure your questions have already been answered.
after searching google "cyanogen wiki root g1"
follow the steps there
then search the developers forum for ezterrys 2708+ update if you want the newest roms

Help with upgrade to 2.2
Hello, i have a problem when try to upgrade to android 2.2 or 2.3, i have a rooted g1 with 1.0 firmware and i need to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3, the problem is that when i that i cant find any app on the market for example, when i try to download rom manager from the market o when i download it manually to the sd card and install a file explorer, it doesn´t work, i don´t know what to do, can somebody help me?
If its rooted then I assume you have a custom recovery where you can just flash a new ROM, if not then get a custom recovery. All info on how to are in the stickies

sweet. will do. thanks alot guys.
Hello i got refered over to this site from androidforums.com
First of all i see alot of great info on here but im still a noob to this whole root process. Im not very familiar with terms and would like for someone to help me understand different roms and what is best. Im still running the stock 1.5 firmware. My baseband version is 1.04.01.09.21 software version 1.56.651.2
So ive read there is easy way to root your phone with a program you can download on your phone. can someone help me out with this. TIA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik..._CDMA.png#Rooting_.2F_Un-rooting_.2F_Flashing - has all links you might need to root and flash a ROM.
As you are on Sense and a older radio, I'll suggest you to upgrade to later version of sense - something 2.1 and then root it, so you don't have to worry about flashing a radio, later. But, that's your call.
Whatever you do, read all the information properly... so you don't have issues.

Ok, maybe I suck at searching, and if I missed it, I apologize, but...
Has anyone made a rooted version of the OFFICIAL (not leaked version) stock Gingerbread rom yet? I'm basically looking for the complete OTA update with no changes except root.
And please don't make fun... I actually LIKE some of the T-Mobile bloat, but much of it does me no good as I'm using the handset with Wind Mobile. I want to stay stock, but keep root so I can freeze/delete the bloat I don't need or want.
I suspect it's a little early in the OTA to be looking for this, but I thought it was worth a shot anyway.
Thanks
It's on the first page of the Dev section. Don't know how you missed it.

Aha! Found it.
Sorry. I read through that thread a while ago and saw that some were having issues with mail, so I moved on. Apparently that issue had been resolved since I first read that thread. My mistake.
Thanks for the help.
Now to figure out how to do this without bricking my phone..
Research time!

No problem. Although you should try VU if you haven't. Much more appealing than TMO's mySense.
EDIT: Wait, I notice that you're in Canada. So I'm assuming you have the HTC Panache? If so then I'm not sure if this would be compatible. Again I'm just assuming, just make sure.
Unlocked MyTouch 4G actually.
Main reason I'm sticking with stock is that I actually like the genius button feature and swype keyboard.

Thats not the official version that is being sent out OTA and via sdcard (at some retail locations) the official one:
Build-2.09.531.1 CL54593 release-keys
Software-2.09.531.1
Baseband: 12.55.60.25P_26.09.04.26_M
has yet to be uploaded, correct me if I am wrong. But telling people that is the official version being released by tmo is incorrect.

Yeah, I thought it was the OFFICIAL version myself. Now I have a few issues after flashing the ROM, and being a new member, I can't even let anyone know about it as I can't post in that thread....
1) Lost my Mail app. No big deal - I just installed Maildroid.
2) GPS isn't working. It's turned on, but I'm not getting a lock at all in either the coverage mapper app or Google maps. This IS a big deal.
If anyone has a solution to problem #2, please let me know.
*EDIT*
Here's what I got now:
Android version 2.3.4
Build number 2.19.531.1 CL95282 release-keys
Baseband version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel version 2.6.35.10-g225de41
[email protected] #1
Well, the radio is definitely wrong comparing to the official version, and it looks like flashing the newest radio should fix the issue according to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1185039.html
So assuming that the newest radio is 12.55.60.25P_26.09.04.26_M, if I can find it then it should play nice with the rest of the updated ROM?
Alternatively, can I just download the Panache radio version or the Froyo radio I had before and flash one of them?
Sorry for the noob questions here, but I'm just getting into this and I'm trying to be careful. Files and directions I'm finding with no problems, but compatibility specifics are still a little beyond my reach.
You have stock radio. if you wanted updated radio for that you should have renamed the zip as pd15img and flash in hboot... I think... Please read the whole thread before doing so. anyways try flashing KC's version of the leaked tmo. btw radios are the top sticky in the android dev section.

LOL! ”I think” does not inspire confidence....
This whole thing is frustrating, and it's largely my own fault for just taking someone's word for it instead of checking myself.
Either way, what's done is done, and I'll just try to switch the radio and run as is until someone makes an untouched but rooted official stock version.
When and if that happens, I'll start fresh.
I'm not feeling up to setting up my phone from scratch yet again at the moment.

lol sorry i remember going through the thread over a month ago or so, and I was on my phone and too lazy to search it myself. I am still lazy to search it, but from my experience, KC's version is more "user-friendly" it's stock too, so give that a go.
I have a plan, but I understand that flashing a radio is somewhat of a risky procedure, so I'm looking for verification on a few things before I start.
As I said above, once someone comes out with a rooted but otherwise untouched OFFICIAL (final) Gingerbread stock ROM with radio, I'll just replace the whole mess, but until then....
So, I'm permarooted using visionary. S off checked in hboot. I do NOT have radio s off though, from what I've read - don't know if that really makes a difference.
Current Rom info:
Android version 2.3.4 - I Flashed rooted Gingerbread ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174344
Htc sense version 2.1
Kernel version 2.6.35.10-g225de41 [email protected] #1
Baseband version 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Build number 2.19.531.1 CL95282 release-keys
I'm intending to flash the 3rd Gingerbread ROM in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059347 using the directions in the same thread.
Does anyone see any issues with this ROM/radio combination or the procedure?
Anything else I should know before I start that isn't in the thread?
Any help is appreciated as I can't afford to brick my phone right now, and I wouldn't be doing this except my GPS hasn't worked since I flashed the ROM, and I need it.
That's exactly how I did it; GPS is working fine now. Radio flash was very easy. S=off (without true radio s=off) is all you need. If you can figure out how to get radio s=off using this rom, lmk...

2nd thread are just radios, they do not contains any roms. they're just radios stripped from those leaks and ruus.

Maybe I goofed on the first link - I'll correct it later, it's too hard to do on my phone.. Fat fingers...
As for the radios, I know. I don't want to flash the ROM again, just the radio to hopefully remedy my lack of GPS. Just wanted to make sure that that particular radio was compatible with the rooted stock Gingerbread ROM I flashed.

I have the SCH-I400 (hardware version i400.0.6) , still with stock software:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: S:i400.0.6V.DL17
Kernel version: 2.6.29
Build number: SCH-I400.DL17
I would like to upgrade it to Android 2.2 (or higher) with minimal risk of bricking it.
Where do I start?
Are there special tools that I need?
Is there a difference between "firmware" and "ROM"?
Which is the latest stable firmware/ROM that you can recommend?
Is it possible to try a particular firmware/ROM without replacing the current firmware/ROM?
What do I need to do to save the current stock firmware/ROM so that I can restore it later (if I ever want to).
I am basically clueless at this point, so any tip or link would be very much appreciated.
Thank You!

That's what I did before posting my question but the best I could find was this HOWTO for Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10.
My understanding is that instructions that are good for one brand/model are not necessarily good for another. I couldn't find such a HOWTO for the Samsung Continuum SCH-I400 and I really don't want to brick my phone just to find out that I missed or misunderstood a step. Can you help?
For example, I found in this thread a reference to something called odin:
Is this the recommended way to flash the Samsung Continuum SCH-I400?
Is v1.85 the latest & greatest?
Is it possible to try a particular version without flashing it? (I have almost 8GB of free SD space)
Do I have to root the device before attempting any firmware trial or flash?
Just look in the development section
Literally all of your questions have been answered throughout the forum..
1. you'll want to download odin (or heimdall if you're on mac/linux)
2. firmware is the version your phone is running, and a ROM is a custom OS. for example, you're firmware is 2.1-update1. however, you are using the stock ROM. for the samsung continuum, as far as i know there is only one other ROM on 2.1-update1 (which is the firmware) and that's the debinged/debloated DL17 ROM (which is the custom OS).
3. just go through the development system and look through the ROM's and look at the comments to see if there are any bugs. currently the latest firmware is 2.2 but i don't know if there are any bugs.
4. not quite sure what you mean by that
5. what you're talking about is a nandroid backup. to do a nandroid backup you have to get clockwork recovery. just check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072

He is talking about running a ROM off his SD card. That's probably the one unanswered question. From what I know, not you can't.
You have a LOT of reading and research to do before you're ready to do any of this stuff. Read through the Android Development sub-forum.... Then read it again... if anything is confusing, read it again. You can SERIOUSLY mess up your phone if you don't know what you're doing... Once you understand it all, then try it out.
My advice would be to first do research on the terminology. Once you know what words like flash, rom, odin, cwm, cwm cyan vs. yellow, recovery, and what things like a tar.md5, and update.zip, mean and do, it will be a lot easier to understand what you are reading. Google is your friend. Most of what I've learned has come from there. Also, peruse different forums. I understand that this one can get a little techincal for a noob. I still have to scratch my head about half of the time and think about what I'm reading before it makes sense. It will come, slowly. Just save yourself a lot of headache, and read read read, and if you have ANY doubts, find the answer BEFORE you start the process.
This video helps a lot with cwm, and flashing via odin

Start by googling root and cintinuum and look for addictivetips tutorial and then look for how to install clockwork mod recovery (this was the difficult part imo) should also be at addictivetips. By time your done you should at least be familliar with programs involved and asking troublshoot Q's instead of general "how do I" Q's......

There is a great tutorial on getting to 2.2.2 in the EC07 clean thread in development.
The quickest method ive use so far (i am newbie 2 rootin etc) is download the tool to root 'superoneclick' then youl have to search for the correct flash tool for your device, then download cwm recovery to backup/restore and install your 'mod rom'. Theres some very good roms about on this site,im only on a x1o mini pro came with 2.1 and s.e refused to release any futher updates 4 this model!but its now running either 2.3.9 or 2.3.5 quite smoothly ..made up ,so u should be able to find and try later than 2.3 and choose which rom you prefer.

well you dont have to start by rooting your phone... rooted roms flashed by odin work on stock 2.1 thats how i did it... i used superoneclick only once, on ec07 stock. havent had to since, cause i flashed roms with odin/cwm that are rooted and deodexed.
Hey guys i updated to 2.3.3
i thot my root was still good cause i can still install apps from sd..
so recently i downloaded root toolbox..
when i opened it it says please root device before use...
so googled 2.3.3 fascinate root..
i tried super one click no success..
so i found a tutorial that uses odin..
so it seemed to have worked but the phone did not stop rebooting?
so flash it back with factory ROM found on the same page of tutorial..all good..
tried to re install superuser..still the same?
is this version rootable or what??
Fascinate from telus 2.3.3 kernel 2.6.35.7-t959tlkg2
This can be answered with research.

2.3 is rootable but the easiest method is just to flash an already rooted rom (such as pwgb) to your phone.
and yes, please take a minute to familiarize yourslf with the forum rules. Thank you.
