That's probably just your micro SD card.
Nope. It's there. App storage is 2gb (which by the way is an insane amount.) The 16gb is internal storage for other stuff like media and files that your apps create and use.
Go to the program on your phone called files and hit 'Home'. That's your 16gb and the folder in there called 'sd' is your external SD card.
2gig for app(which is plenty),12gig for internal, and 8gig for sd
Coming from mytouch 3g and g1 I have no complaints

Well that's a semi bummer. I was hoping to have a little more than ~2gb to fun around with. Thanks guys. Also anyone know how to get rid of the avatar and sims 3 icons?

How much did you pay for your device? Did you order from cellstores.com?
Androidandme.com. I got it for 170 with next day shipping
what do you need more than 2gb for?
I am only semi-angry about the Epic only getting 1GB. The DROID and many other phones have only 256MB or so, and most of those users get long more or less fine, and froyo makes it a non-issue.
who would want more than 2gb? seriously! I had a 512mb partition on my G1 and the same on my N1. holding over 150 apps and didnt even come CLOSE to filling that up, and thats only 25% of what the vibrant has. sheesh.
Once Froyo is out you'll be able to use the full 16GB for app storage.
Kind-of. Not all apps can be moved to SD with Froyo's Apps2SD implementation, some ("protected" ones) still have to stay in the normal App storage.
The phone shouldn't be marketed as such if you don't have access to even half of the advertised storage. its pretty misleading.
well when in the heck is froyo coming out? I ordered a 32gb card for mine which will all be here tuesday. and i will throw this g1 as far as i can!!!!!

You're kidding, right? It has a formatted capacity of 12.7gb of internal storage. That's the same as having a permanently installed 16gb microSDHC card, with a 2gb partition for apps.
I guess some people just aren't happy unless they can load all 100,000 apps on the Market into their phone.

MicroSD is 2gb and replaceable by any MicroSD you buy in the store.
Internal is 16gb split up like this:
Apps - 2gb
Storage - 14gb
The 14gb internal storage is mounted on:
/sdcard
Your SD card is mounted on:
/sdcard/sd

You guys dont seem to get it! The actual App is not 100megs, the apps are like 1-5 megs...the extra 100megs that needs to be downloaded to play said app is stored wherever you decide, whether thats on the internal memory or on an sd card. It is not taken into account in the 2gb storage for app space.
So in that case 2gb is plenty enough for whats out there right now...trust us!
...freeing up space on your HDD from 1995. We are juggling with megabytes, not gigabytes... has anyone ever noticed that?
That's because phones are very different from desktop computers...
The phone could do with more internal storage...

In working for years with computers I have to say hard drives are very volatile. If I got more than 5 years or so out of a consumer hard drive up until the past few years I considered it good. Its the only part of your computer (besides fans) that has consistently moving parts.
But its true I do feel like its 1995 again with all this juggling of free space. Its pretty annoying actually

Why would we need 4GB? We wont fill up 512MB
I feel you bro, I got 62mb free on my internal memory, no more than 400mb free in my 8gb SD card and 2gb left on my 270gb HDD, so I definitely won't be using any link2sd thingies any soon, until I buy a new SD card, just because the damn phone nor the sdcard that comes with it doesn't come with any space for your stuff, due to the .android_secure folder occupying like 2gb and a half. It's pretty awkward, yet the phone is worth it.
Maybe I could be a Yottabyte but the internal memory is still pretty small

What does that do exactly?
I'm having a constant battle with internal storage.
I only have a few apps on my internal storage having moved most with APP2SD or Titanium yet it keeps going down.
Flash is like 12MB. But if I move it with Titanium, it tells me it is not installed.
Same with Twitter, If i move it, it doesn't allow me to sign in.
I constantly have 40mb or less free and yet I've got like nothing installed on internal memory. I don't know what's taking up all the space, anyway I can see for definite?
Thanks.
I have storage problems too.
I have only 130Mb of apps on the internal storage, the rest in on my sd card and yet still I have only 78mb free. Any suggestions as to the cause of this?

I think he means moving apps from the data partition to the system partition (where your base rom is stored-the stuff that is still there when you wipe data/factory reset), thus freeing up space on your data partition, which is where apps you install normally are stored.

Anyway the Nexus 7 gives has 13gb of 16gb free for use. Is there anyway this can be further increased?

no. the reason for this is android takes up a bit of that space.

check out the storage space used on a new desktop or laptop pc as soon as you bought it.. You will see some of it taken up .. by windows there is also a Recovery partition (often hidden from user ) as well as a cache partition boot partition and partition tables also take up space on the storage disk.
This device was designed to use cloud base storage .I for one think its a great idea.. But i would love for some of the games to be able to play across OTG ...
Thank you for all your replies. I guess I'll be relying on OTG for my games and movies then. Already ordered the cable bought the app

32GB Nexus 7 Storage Space on Arrival
Guys,
I fully realise that on arrival (new) that the N7 will have a certain amount of storage used for the OS, Installed App's etc. Roughly how much should this be? I received my 32GB N7 yesterday and on looking at available storage it was 27.63 GB so effectively 4.5GB used. Is this normal as it seems a lot for the ROM and few apps!
AW: 13gb of 16gb free.

Quick primer in storage...
Manufacturers and operating systems use two different, but both technically correct, methods of calculating storage capacity. 32GB translates to roughly 29.8GB a far as the software is concerned. As such, you've overestimated the storage used by the system files by over 2GB.

It is simply due to the fact that there are two different methods of measuring storage capacity. Hard drive manufacturers report a gigabyte as one billion bytes. Software, on the other hand, uses a binary system to measure capacity and reports 1,073,741,824 bytes as one gigabyte. As such, a completely empty 16GB drive is going to only show as roughly 14.8GB.

Its the same on every electronic as previous poster explained. My 32GB iPod touch has somewhere around 28GB available, 32GB Zune HD has around 28GB, 32GB micro SD card has some 28-29GB available, and we won't even mention how much is "missing" from my laptops 500GB HDD.

Hi
I am probably going to get a G54 soon and can't wait! But I have two questions before I take the plunge:
1) How much space is available on the 16gb version after removing all the bloatwave via root? This is a major concern for me in the chance there is not a white 32gb version because of the 9gb only available
2) Does anyone know if there are any plans for a White 32gb version to be released? I only see the black version available and I prefer the white version.
Thanks to anyone that can help and I hope all of you are enjoying your GS4's!
I have the same question... would love to know the answer! Thanks

I've said it many times in many threads....debloating will not give you any use able space
-All the "bloat" is located in the system partition.
-the size of the partition is set to a certain amount, for our case it leaves us with about 9gb
-yes debloating will free space in the system partition, but its not going to change the size of the actual partition. Not to mention the system partition space is unusable for the user, it is there primarily for system/root purposes
-we will need Devs to change partition layouts if we want more free space

Don't the apps download extra information that can slow them down if all that information is moved to the SD Card? The main two that have information like that for me are GroupMe and Facebook. Because for some reason on my iPhone my GroupMe app, among others, has data saved on my phone that boosted it's size from like 30mb to 600mb which I am sure is local data the app saves on my phone. So its a concern for me if the limited space on the 16gb is taken up by things like that. Also, is it possible to automatically save recorded videos and photos to the SD card? I know music can be played directly off of it but not sure about those two.
Hi. I have SGN 10.1 2014 standard wifi version with 16gb memory. I expanded it by ext sd 32gb card. When I check internal memory device shows me 5gb free out of 16. You cant move large games to external memory and also make sure any files youdo have i.e. movies or other downloads have actually been placed to your EXTSD.

The issue is that the internal memory is partitioned and twhat is here called sd-card only get a part of it. The biggest other part is the system partition where Android and all the internal apps are stored. Therefore you only have this small amount of free memory.
Solution: None. Okay, you can root your device and then with some tricks integrate the external sd-card into your internal one but this is all not perfect and needs always a very fast sd-card.
