Hi. I have SGN 10.1 2014 standard wifi version with 16gb memory. I expanded it by ext sd 32gb card. When I check internal memory device shows me 5gb free out of 16. Detailed search shows that Android folder takes 2,3 gb other folders 0,6 gb....... I moved almost all apps to external sd. So where in the hell is 8gb of internal sd memory. Could someonn explain it to me....but please in simple way.
You cant move large games to external memory and also make sure any files youdo have i.e. movies or other downloads have actually been placed to your EXTSD.

Well thats not really true. If you are rooted you can use folder mount which will do the job nicely. If not rooted then no you cannot move large files.
actually I have not so many apps installed at all and only one game (pinball)

Try running Disk Usage (free in the Play Store) which will give you a detailed breakdown of what is stored where. I've found it very useful for tracking down what is taking up all the space.

The issue is that the internal memory is partitioned and twhat is here called sd-card only get a part of it. The biggest other part is the system partition where Android and all the internal apps are stored. Therefore you only have this small amount of free memory.
Solution: None. Okay, you can root your device and then with some tricks integrate the external sd-card into your internal one but this is all not perfect and needs always a very fast sd-card.

Do you have a lot of music on Google play? and did you happen to download them to your tablet? How about a movie they take up tons of space. You should run Disk Usage mentioned in post #8.
I have a 32 gb SM-P600, learned my lesson with my 16gb GT-N8013. I had to root and install folder mount on the GT-N8013 to get by.
Ok thx. Disk usage helpd me to clean up some folders. Some magazines took hundreds of megabytes of memory. Right now i have 8gb of free mem

Hey there, I recently preordered the 8GB nexus 7 that shipped out but id like to know if theres anyway to expand the restriction of space of apps google gives you I know ill have like 1.4GB for apps and the rest storage but since im going to be using 32GB flash drive through stickmount id rather expand my app storage limit to something like 2.5GB or so. Thanks

If it is like the 16gb then the internal storage and space for apps are not separate. They are combined on the N7.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Since you bought the 8GB version you'll have between 5-6GB of storage space internal.
That storage space is for all of your applications and your /sdcard data. In android 3.0+ the /sdcard is emulated on the system so you have the full internal memory for apps and data.
there is NO WAY to increase the internal space for apps or appdata. It is impossible.
You can use USB OTG to hook up a flash drive or hard drive (requires root+stickmount) and have as much room as you want for your media or other data.
but app data and apps must be on the internal memory.
Alright thanks I thought there was a cap like previous devices but seems combined makes me a a lil unhappy not getting the 16GB version
Is this something new for phones? It's pretty ridiculous, and kind of makes me wish I had waited for the 32gb version if I had known such a simple feature would be gone :l

Hi,
It's a 4.2.2 "Feature"
It's for the greater good. New generation NAND smokes microSD performance, and you don't wanna bottleneck your device by multitasking from SD. On the other hand 16GB should be dropped entirely, we're talking very minimal cost difference for Samsung, so why not start at 32gigs or 64 and go all the way up to 256? This is HD era, nothing comes in small size.

Hi,
Also the "16GB" is actually only 9.15GB on my phone.
The system eats a fair portion of it.
Before 4.2.2 could you move to sd without rooting then? And will it really kill memory card If i rooted and use folder mount

Still taking any and all suggestions...

That's the reason I'm waiting for the 32GB version.
I did the same with the Galaxy S III though I can't understand why they delay the release of the 32GB that much.. I'm pretty sure a lot of people are waiting for that one, right?
And btw, you can put your music on the µSD card, it's just the installed apps that are a problem.
Thanks, yeah you are right. Not sure though if some apps will be smart enough to route downloaded music to my SD card??
While we're at it: My problem is basically the "cloudsync" and more so the "DocumentSync" folder, the latter is > 6 GB large! Anyone knows what that is?
I want to reduce this size, my phone is brand-new!

Swyped from another galaxy
Thanks, indeed. I deactivated all that cloud-syncing nonsense, which solved my problem for now. Now I have a few weeks or months until I have to think again what to do. :-/
Is "Swyped from another galaxy" that a joke on the Samsung Galaxy keyboard system? lol
You're probably looking at 24gb on the 32gb version so a bunch more memory.
Most people will in fact be fine with 9gb though, power users who download a lot of really inefficient apps that cache a lot of things and require a lot of storage should get the 32gb version. I personally will be fine with the 16gb version.
You may be right. I got 2.1 GB of apps for 151 apps, which averages out at 14 MB per app, while I had the feeling that most of my apps are less than 8 MB, oh well. -.-
I won't download any more apps though, but I am sure photographs and stuff will quickly snatch up the remaining 5 GB of space that I freed now...
Will try to find a setting to put my photos on the SD card by default. Any tips (or links to a thread / tutorial about that) are appreciated.

Yeah i am also waiting for the 32GB version because of the same reason.
my htc one s 16gb has 2gb dedicated to apps. for me plenty atm. that's independent of the 9.93 internal sdcard, don't know if s4 is same. however, as mentioned, 16gb phones are too small now days and i won't pay for the s4 till it gets 32gb on att and black--
also don't think i can post links to other forums per xda. but if you google "att 32gb s4", there is a link to an att forum specifically for the 32gb release and an active att moderator--just fyi

Really? cant u save on the sd card by defalut ????
First of all.. If u want to store ur camera photos on sd card use camera zoom fx.. It's a very good camera app and there u can choose where to store the photos
The second.. U have 8,8 gb on stock firmware if u install a custom rom in a few weeks it will be more free space because of some bloatware installed on the stock and files we dont need i think.. Let the dev's do there great job

For photos there's a setting in the camera app which let's you select which storage to use. If it's not there use a file explorer to copy your photos across to your sd card.

It seems the 16gb S4 is still the only option at the moment in the UK, I originally cancelled my order when I found out about the internal memory issue and the fact you can't save apps to the sd card. If you root some of my banking apps won't work, so that is not an option, not that apps work all the time properly on the sd card anyway. Also if you rent films from Googlr these cache in internal memory.
So for all you 16gb owners what is the internal memory space left , what have you installed and how much of an inconvenience is it, if at all. Please be honest, I just want to see what you can get on each of your S4's. Are any of you struggling already or believe you might.
Your help here will make me decide whether I just bite the bullet and compromise with the 16gb. Thanks in advance.
I've been a bit more careful than usual, not installed any of the big storage hog games, disabled Document Sync (which inexplicably tries to fill the internal storage with dropbox content), moved TomTom data to the SD card, and now have about 100 applications installed and 6Gb of space left. Not really a problem for me as yet, I'm using DiskUsage to monitor the situation. I'm also dithering about the One, but at the moment I'd rather have the 9Gb+64Gb SD card than the One's 25Gb. Might change if I have problems later and the One gets a 64Gb variant.
Thanks for feedback. One of my friends has only 2.5gb free now and hasn't installed any of his fav games. No room if he tried.
Anybody else got feedback.
it's kind of dumb that it has this amazing quad core processor and one of the best phone gpu's around and yet, you cant even install all the best games on it... lol
I think a potential cure will be for android itself to have a proper api to utilize external SD for heavy resources like those in the obb folder.
Unfortunately I don't think google will support this since they have been on a no SD card agenda for quite a while now.

Rooting isn't the cure. I know for a fact that some of the banking apps won't work with a rooted device. Also, internal memory functions better so don't mind all apps being there but really need a bigger memory to start off with.

For me the 9Gb of storage is enough i don't generally game on my phone, and only install what i use, music, vids & pictures all go onto my SD card.
But i think the S4 should have launched at 32Gb this time around, back in the day the S1 launched with 8Gb, when the S2 came it was bumped upto 16Gb at launch
I think the easiest option really would be for Samsung to come up with a way to allow you to save apps to SD card, even though Jellybean doesn't have this feature.
I do think though when the S5 arrives next year 32Gb will be standard, with options of 64Gb & 128Gb to.
I don't have any problems... Lots of apps and a few games installed... Batman, GTA, mini motor... I don't have much time to play but nice with the opportunity

Sendt fra SGS4
Doesn't bother me at all as I don't game on my phone. If you're a gamer then it might sting a little but apart from that music is via google play and photos in the 32 gig SD card
I store my ROM and app backups on my external SD (32 GB G-Skill class 6).
Hi
I am probably going to get a G54 soon and can't wait! But I have two questions before I take the plunge:
1) How much space is available on the 16gb version after removing all the bloatwave via root? This is a major concern for me in the chance there is not a white 32gb version because of the 9gb only available
2) Does anyone know if there are any plans for a White 32gb version to be released? I only see the black version available and I prefer the white version.
Thanks to anyone that can help and I hope all of you are enjoying your GS4's!
I have the same question... would love to know the answer! Thanks

I've said it many times in many threads....debloating will not give you any use able space
-All the "bloat" is located in the system partition.
-the size of the partition is set to a certain amount, for our case it leaves us with about 9gb
-yes debloating will free space in the system partition, but its not going to change the size of the actual partition. Not to mention the system partition space is unusable for the user, it is there primarily for system/root purposes
-we will need Devs to change partition layouts if we want more free space

Don't the apps download extra information that can slow them down if all that information is moved to the SD Card? The main two that have information like that for me are GroupMe and Facebook. Because for some reason on my iPhone my GroupMe app, among others, has data saved on my phone that boosted it's size from like 30mb to 600mb which I am sure is local data the app saves on my phone. So its a concern for me if the limited space on the 16gb is taken up by things like that. Also, is it possible to automatically save recorded videos and photos to the SD card? I know music can be played directly off of it but not sure about those two.
I notice with my 32gb S7 edge, im down to 4gb free. I have a few games installed that are large, so I'm aware of that usage. When I plug the phone into my pc and look at the folders, they all add up to about 9gb. So where is the other 19 or so gb? I'm assuming some of it is the system, but it can't be 19gb.. can it?
