simple question, kinda noobish but help a dude out. if i root while running 4.1, will i be able to upgrade to 4.1.1 without loosing my root? thanks in advance
Probably. Just root again afterwards.
You can use OTA Rootkeeper by Supercurio and just restore Root afterwards.

Hello,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but a search yielded nothing.
Anyways, I was wondering how an OTA update would work if I merely unlocked the bootloader and rooted the stock ROM without installing a recovery. Would I be able to update directly from Google or not?
Thanks for you help
You will still be able to get the OTA, but you will lose root unless you have an OTA root keeper tool installed.

To clarify further, would my bootloader remain unlocked? And would rooting be easy on a nexus device?
sorry for the questions but this is my first nexus and thanks for your help

As far as I'm aware your bootloader will remain unlocked and there are various toolkits that will re-root very simply.
Purists will tell you to stay away from the toolkits but I've had no problems so far.

I'm used to rooting and using custom rom on all my android devices but since this is my first Nexus, I'd like to keep it as clean as possible.
Rooting and Unlocking preserves the OTA updates that's great. Would flashing a custom recovery prevent OTAs ?

Hey!
I've not yet got a satisfactory answer for the question below on XDA and hence I ask:
1> Will I get OTA Updates after I've rooted my phone and I'm on STOCK Android?
2> When I install the OTA, do I loose the root?
3> Will I loose my data if I loose the root after installing OTA and attempt to re-root the phone with the bootloader already UNLOCKED?
Thanks in advance.

You can flash the factory images. Or a custom rom with has been updated to 4.4.2.
Answering your question. NO. You dont need every little update. Most people dont even notice it. Heck , I'm still using 4.3

My question is if its even possible to maintain the root access through the update process.
I've heared once of OTA root keeper or something alike ...

Yes, you will. You can either get titanium backup- root and freeze SDM to stop the requests or you can use one of the methods in the general section to update and keep root.
Hi,
I want to root my nexus 6p but I do like OTA updates.
Is it possible to root my device and flash a new kernel or so and then unroot it and keep everything ?
I saw an Unroot button on the chainfire's SuperSU, what does it do ?
Thanks and sorry for my English...

You'd have to revert your recovery back to stock to take an OTA. Just flash the factory images, you get it the moment they come out, and it only takes a few minutes and you have the option of not wiping any data if you wish.
