Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place.
I have read a few posts about getting Sky Go on Android.
Is this possible for the Acer Iconia A500?
If so, is anybody able to give me a step-by-step guide?
As I'm somewhat a noob, I don't understand the rooting and what the kernel is etc.
R
Anybody able and willing to explain how to do this. Step-by-step to a noob?
I find it very confusing. If, so, thanks, it's greatly appreciated!
No, it's possible to install it but it will not work.
The application checks for a supported device and the A50x series fail the check.

Hey guys. First time posting because I couldn't find what I was looking for. I only found one thread asking about this specific phone but the answer didn't really cover the rooting process. I'm in South Korea in the Army and this was the phone I chose before doing a ton of research.
My question is: Which procedures will I follow to root and unlock the bootloader for this phone? Is there an American/European version that I can treat it like? I'm mostly trying to get HD video recording with a custom ROM, but I want to over/underclock as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bobby
I'm not sure how the Korean versions differ, but from what I read, I think the Nexus S is not capable of recording true HD video due to hardware limitations? Correct me if I'm wrong.
From what I've read it's a ROM restriction, but that's not the only reason I want it rooted.
Bump.
Buuump... Please? Anybody?
I'm really needing to under clock my CPU for battery life.
You can try the GingerBreak method - that is a simple download and click root process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Or you can try the method for the I9020
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
Good luck...
I tried to root Korean device. It's not different than I9020. You can search in xda to root it
Sorry if I am annoying for this, but I am confused. My dad asked me to root his tablet, after jailbreaking his iPhone. Problem is I have read all the guides, and do to mylack of ability to learn without seeing it done. Can someone point me to a video or pictures guide? This will be the only way I can learn it.... "learning disabled here" thanks for the help.

Just keep in mind, you will have a rooted 3.2 when you finish, unless TimmyDean added 3.2.1. So if you want, you can flash a 3.2.1 a500 rom.
I did try this, but do not fully understand. I will try and post back if I had an epic fail.
flashing a rom seems very difficult, and yes I read the guide, but I don't want to **** up this tablet lol
Try this - it's a very easy to understand walkthrough:

All the files are provided for you in the description.
ibawanzingee, I appreciate the link, Truly thank you, but it wont let me get Link 3. Keeps saying I cant download from them anymore. Can someone else try to get the Link 3 and re-upload it to a better site. ibawanzingee, I am talking about the video you sent me. Sorry for all the inconvenience.
This rom is pretty much the same: Acer's Honecomb 3.2.1 with root options
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429199
Or you can flash any other roms from the developement section of this board.
Enjoy!

Just wondering as currently there isn't any threads for the Acer Iconia A110, and it has just about the same spec and is almost identical as the Nexus 7.
Will it be able to be rooted with the same tools that are made for nexus 7? Or will I have to wait till a root for the A110 comes out?
Thanks

i doubt it comes with a unlockable/lockable bootloader like all the nexus devices do. so, im guessing the method will be different.
Has any tegra 3 device been unlocked without using official methods

just curious guys as to what the disadvantages are with the Acer Iconia A110 if unable to root atm? is it going to be possible in the near future to unlock the boot loader? is it worth getting one of the nexus instead? been looking at the 32gb 3g option.
I was given a a110 after my 100 suddenly crapped out .I was able to root using of of the universal root methods on xda.but I have not seen anything for a boot loader unlock or a recovery.as of now its not a bad tablet.

Is there any chance that you could post a link in this thread on which universal root method you used? I would like to do the same with my acer. They put a lot of useless apps on there (ice age, etc..). Thanks in advance!

Not working :crying:
Root does not seem to work on mine
I read you were able to root your a110. I tried the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17 with no results using both normal and special mode. All applications on googleplay like adaway say it is not rooted. I did all according to tutorial by the way.
So please how did you go about rooting your acer iconia tab a110.
So far I love it but my 32 go microsd is useless because I cannot move any applications to it. Or do anybody know of a working way around it. The problem is the storage is not mounted according to android phones so no applications rcognize the second external storage.
Thank you!

Thanks, I'd like to know aswell. Tried both of bin4ary's methods and nothing. Can't seem to push SU/Busybox.
I would love to know as well, there simply doesn't appear to be a root method for the Acer Iconia a110. I was able to find this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915459, with a claim about having done it, but I'm not willing to risk it myself until there are more success stories. Rooting my Acer Iconia doesn't mean that much to me that I'm willing to brick it based on one persons claim.
Neither option is working

Thank you for sending that link to all of us trying to root the Acer. I was wondering if there was any chance that you could jot down a quick outline on the steps you took to do this. The closest I got was the program said deamon started successfully. I left the tablet on the screen for about two hours but nothing happened after that. Any insight into this would be great.
Thanks again.

So far you seem to be the only one working on this tablet. It is a great tablet but would love to be able to transfer some apps to the sd card because of the 5 gb's they gave us internally. I just don't think that its enough. The fact that you are tyring to work on this for all of us is great to see. If there is anything that I can do to try and help please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for all of your work thus far! This also seem so to be the only site that has anything for the acer a110.
thanks for the praise but I don't deserve it .I'm not a technical Guy just taking some risk with what other people have put out .no luck so far.

have you tried the 3.2 downgrade guide? works like a charm.
there are some threads on this subject
I have an old Acer A500 that I want to fix up for my wife to Pinterest/FB and maybe a little work. I know it has some age on it, but it is in great shape! I would like to ROOT it and do some speeding up to it. How do I go about rooting and upgrading the ICS?
Thanks!

Which version of android does it have atm?
Are you familiar with adb, it's the easiest way to retrieve your tabs cpuid...Which you're gonna need.
If you want to run ics and root, you also need the unlocked bootloader.
You probably need to do some reading about the procedure, it can be complicated, but if you follow the steps in the guides you'll be fine. The process itself will take about 30 mins at most plus the time to download the tools, drivers and rom...so set aside a good 2-3 hours undisturbed...the process works best by completing each step thoroughly before moving into the next and not getting too hung up about trying to understand exactly what you're doing, lol...just do what the guides say!!!
Ok, so first retrieve the cpuid see my guide in my sig and it's stickied in tje dev forum.
Then also in the Dev forum is a sticky by civato to unlock the bootloader, it will be one of the first 6 or 7 posts.
That's about it!!! If you have any probs feel free to ask and we'll try to help
