Rooting and Loading ROMs on Korean Nexus S (SHW-M200K) - Nexus S General

Hey guys. First time posting because I couldn't find what I was looking for. I only found one thread asking about this specific phone but the answer didn't really cover the rooting process. I'm in South Korea in the Army and this was the phone I chose before doing a ton of research.
My question is: Which procedures will I follow to root and unlock the bootloader for this phone? Is there an American/European version that I can treat it like? I'm mostly trying to get HD video recording with a custom ROM, but I want to over/underclock as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bobby

I'm not sure how the Korean versions differ, but from what I read, I think the Nexus S is not capable of recording true HD video due to hardware limitations? Correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've read it's a ROM restriction, but that's not the only reason I want it rooted.
Bump.

Buuump... Please? Anybody?
I'm really needing to under clock my CPU for battery life.

You can try the GingerBreak method - that is a simple download and click root process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Or you can try the method for the I9020
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
Good luck...

I tried to root Korean device. It's not different than I9020. You can search in xda to root it

Desire HD arrived! Now what?

Seriously, I know you guys hate noob posts, that been covered 1000x before.... but, my phone just arrived! This site is very large and scary... if someone could point me to a how to guide and a recommended rom... I would appreciate it.
Thx
THE BEST PLACE to start is: http://www.youtube.com/user/HTCShowMe
uh, thx?
I meant for rooting, custom roms etc... but thx either way.
Try this http://hemorrdroids.net/overclock-undervolt-your-desire-hd/
You can look for custom roms in the Dev section. There are other guides in there too.

First you should decide why you need to root or flash custom roms. If you find out you should also make sure that you know "how to do" steps for rooting transactions.

Sage advice, my thoughts, apply the current OTA update and see how you get on with it as stock, then when you know where you stand think about modding it, Visionary (from Paul at modaco) will attain temp root for you to expirement with and see what root will give you without risk and can apply permanent root when and if its required. Main advice is enjoy your new phone
BTW hold off applying any future OTA updates until they have been examined, as I believe the latest Incredible OTA closes off many of the current root exploits
I would play around with it first before rooting. This way you can see what you think is missing and choose the rom you want accordingly
Agreed and thanks for the concern
I got the same advice when I posted about my nexus one..... 3 days later, I rooted! Wish I read that comment about ota
first though.....
I'll hold off a cooked days as I might not keep it, having no 3g is tough, camera doesn't seem very good and the speaker sound is very tingy.... it has proved I missed Android but this might not be the phone for me

I have Atrix ver 1.7.5, how can i root it and update it to latest build?

Hello Everyone,
I have a motorola atrix which was given to me by my friend in usa as a gift, And it has a software version of 1.7.5 , I want to update my phone, but i cannot find the guide for rooting this version of firmware and updating it. Is this version unique? wherever i search i only get guides for other versions.
And one more thing, I live in nepal, and i am using my sim card, but if i update the phone will it be carrier locked?
Thanks in advance.
Screenshot
Oh, and one more thing, i have taken a picture of the phone screen, I've attached it.
Sorry for the crappy photo.
First off, this should go in the Q&A section. Second there is a Sticky Thread at the top of this section geared toward NOOBs...you should go back and read it, it has all the info you need.
Sorry for posting here. And regarding that N00b guide, i read it all, and from what i know i think the method for rooting different versions of firmware are different right? and there is no mention for the version that i am using. So i just wanted a little guidance.

This method works on all phones:
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
p.s. Your screenshot says you have 2.2.2 ATT Atrix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Meaning you can use pretty much any root method - Gingerbreak, Gladroot, preinstall, and CWM root after you unlock the phone.
The auto unlock/root method works wonderfully on our US devices

[Q] ROOTING of Vision (Desire Z) 2.3.3 Not Possible

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can figure out, there is no way of rooting the 2.3.3 version of the Desire Z?
All guides start with downgrade to exploidable firmware, and that is not possible without gaining at least temporary root access, and all previous methods are broken?
Anyone has any ideas that work?

Of course it is! Don't you think there would be alot more angry people lol?! You have to obtain temp root on GB then downgrade to Froyo and get S-Off. It's a pain but I just did it on my friend's Evo Shift last month.
Thank you for answering I have spend several hours, and I can't get any of the temporary root solutions to function, they all seem to be ineffective against the current version?
Follow the XDA Vision wiki method. Shouldn't have any problems. I know someone that just did it last week and worked.

I tried that, and just about any other method available, and non of them seem to be effective.

Can you go into more details? Like error code or anything? Are you sure you have adb set up properly? plus, drivers too?
If you can't get fre3vo to work (the only step which might not work, every other step is gauranteed to) use a different exploit, either zergRush or tacoroot will work.

Please post up exactly what steps aren't working. Then we can try and help you

Hello guys,
I just wanted to ask, you say it is possible to root the 2.3.3. and you also said how. Actually I spent like 3 hours today by looking for the guides how to root this phone, and I am really scared to do it without previous asking.
all your responses were great, but I am really a newbie to these things, and those names you said (containing techniques how to root) didnt ring a bell in my head. Could you please just send me a link with a guide that will work?

I rooted and modded two G2 using this method and all went flawless, I read about ADB and how to use it, I read the guide several times to understand what was going to happen.
Read read read and then root and mod. The phones that I rooted were my first and second ever, I am NOT a dev nor am I an expert by any means. My point is that again if you read the entire post before trying anything then you will be successful. My phones were both on 2.3.3 and the process is not an easy one but works well. Hats off to those who took the time and effort to write the guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 this is the link to the guide.
Thank you for your answer. In any of the threads somebody mentioned the CM´s rooting guide on wiki, I checked it out and I got the idea.
which one would you prefer? the one posted above or the CM´s?
The CM wiki is based off that xda thread.
I would recommend the xda one, as it includes flashgc (for goldcard generation), which the cm wiki doesn't.

I have a friend that just bought an HTC Vision(G2) with 2.3.4 and he has been unable to downgrade using xda or wiki. He thinks 2.3.4 is incompatible with these methods. He is familiar with adb and previously owned a Nexus One. Anyone know if his opinion is wrong?
These methods do work.
If for some weird reason fre3vo doesn't feel like working, you can use zergRush or tacoroot to gain temp-root (which I linked in a previous post in this thread)
-Nipqer
Adb can seem scary/difficult to setup to some, but it's not at all. Adb being a tool used in the rooting/unlocking process. See my signature for a link to a guide on setting up adb.
Please stay away from any so-called one-click rooting/unlocking solutions (especially Visionary), because a lot of them don't work, and some carry a high risk of bricking your phone. There is absolutely no risk of bricking your phone if you carefully follow the XDA Wiki guide. Read it first, and feel free to ask questions if you're not sure about something.

It can be done and quite easily (took a while but it was very smooth). I did it on my friend's EVO Shift recently with 2.3.4 which is very close to our devices (an uglier cousin one might say lol). Sometimes if you get stuck, it helps to take a break. Also, don't over complicate things. Commands while using adb have to be precise. I suggest using copy and paste. Also double check you commands before hitting enter. I am quite sure 2.3.4 still works with frevo. Maybe his drivers are mixed up. That's usually what it is. Make sure you can get all your functions to work before rooting like usb tethering and whatnot.

[Q] Root on 4.5.1-134-DFP-231

Hi All,
Sorry for the noob question but I can't quite work out from the threads whether root is possible to attain on the above build.
I've always had HTC devices, so root is quite easy to achieve, but my other half has a Defy+ and I'm struggling slightly to understand the CG concepts, etc.
I can see that I can't downgrade the above build to anything other than 2.3.6, but that's fine with me (and her)
So, can someone definitively tell me whether I can root the above build, and if so, point me to a thread with some instructions?
Thanks for your help and again, apologies if I'm just not reading well enough!
Use the Search button!
Its here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820282
Also, you don't need to worry about CG, its 7 in your case, and you can't mess it up as it the maximum possible

Thanks - I did have a search around but just couldn't work out whether there was a successful root or not.
But thank you anyway, I will have a read through and see if my girlfriend will let me loose on her phone!

Root LG G4 model H-815P

now where should we star
fisrt off i want to say i didn't made the root for this model , the root of this device is already available on xda
this is the original post on how to root your lg g4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765/
now i'm just going to tell you what file and commands you must use in order to root the h-815p
now first get the International H815 10c Version pre rooted file and you also need the International H815 10c Version commands for that , again all the commands and files can be found in the original post , no all you have to do is just to follow the steps although it says its not compatible with the h-815p don't worry it will work i've tested it on a few h-815p models and so far there was no problems any way , PLEASE DO THAT AT YOUR OWN RISK just because it worked for me it may not work with you
and also a spacial thanks to all the developers on XDA for making it possible
if you have any questions let me know
Excellent tutorial,
But i was wondering what if i don´t want to flash my lg g4, instead i want to use another easy way like one click root. im a newbie rooting and don´t want to mess up my G4. Is there any tool to root it?
androidphoria dot com under desarrollo/root-lg-g4, explained it (in simple Spanish steps) but as a newbie rooting i need to know if this really works too. And as i mentioned i don´t want to mess my G4.
Thanks in advance xda-developers members!!!

I could be mistaken, but there are no one click root methods out. I have checked out the supplied link and seen the page for the one click root and it personally looks malicious to me. You could always sandbox the application and scan for viruses to verify it's authenticity.
Not sure rooting one click tool
Hi, ive already downloaded it and scan with A V G Avirus and noting happens, not threads founds. one click has a support list but there is not LG G4 in it, although it says that the list is not complete and rooting my phone maybe works, as a non harming tool i must test the rooting step, but still not sure. So, I´ve been looking with others like frama root, srs tools this last one has a support list but when you click on it, doesn't works. frama root (apk) never try, and there is another one, towel root. I googled little bit more and read that lot of users root s4, and s3 with it. These methods works in apk file. and except srs tools. iroot a Chinese version for pc and apk for cel, is anorther one. But still dont know if i try, i just barely bought the G4 4 days ago. And every blog i read, i saw to read xda-developers infos. maybe im wrong, but no body here mention rooting with one of those one click rooting tools. As newbie i cant post urls vid from you tube rooting with one of them. I dont want to try rooting my g4 if here in xda-developers, i dont get clearly what to do In very simple way for me, a newbie.
Again, thanks in advance

The methods posted here are pretty easy to follow.
The key is to read them completely, every single word, without skipping any.
Asking questions if you do not understand the instructions before you attempt to execute the steps, not after.
There is no one-click root method for the G4 right now.
Good luck in your choice.

Thanks a lot. I ll be patient and read carefully as you said,
The thing is that this process is not the easiest but I wanted to give some info to all the h_815P users that there is a root and that I its tested as well
Still looking a one click root for LG G4
As I said, I´ll be patient, but still looking for and found another one click method, it is Root Genius, but never try to root my g4. I know all the effort made by those here doing a Root for the LG G4, that really works and it is mention step by step in the original link post above described. when i said a root in a simple click is cuz its not familiar or easy to root for me as newbie. One click rooting for me is like Towelroot, unlock root, super one click, iroot(former vroot) kingoroot, framaroot. Again thanks in advance.
I am currently on V20d can I still use this method or should I downgrade first.
