They canceled it due to poor performance in testing...
HTC is such a joke
I don't believe that b.s HTC is not supporting any of there older lineup, There all about there 2012 and beyond lineup.
Such a shame, If it wasn't for us there wouldn't be a htc!
probably "fake" (true only for that carrier).
Desire HD will be updated to ICS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28734289&postcount=3
hope
I doubt it, if that were true, then they would have pulled it from the HTC website http://blog.htc.com/2012/03/ics/
We'll just have to wait for further news directly from HTC, or till the update finally gets released. I seriously doubt HTC's that much of a joke that they couldn't make ICS + Sense 4.0A work on the Desire HD, when they could on the One V.

Which is why I think it's more carrier specific than anything. Basically would mean that Telus customers won't get an official Telus OTA or similar update to their DZ, but may still be able to get an HTC provided (or another carrier based) ICS rom.
If it's true that is.
Oke people need to read more and think more..... Telus is not upgrading the Desire HD.. where on earth did you ever read "HTC is canceling the DHD update"?
If we get word of HTC about not upgrading, wich probably will not happen since the Incredible S and the Desire S ( both less spectacular phones ) got the update, then we will need to post something about HTC not upgrading.

Whoa whoa no they aren't. The Desire HD, Desire S and Incredible S all have the _exact_ same spec, aside from the screen sizes.

This isn't HTC, it's Telus. Does not mean unbranded DHDs won't get the update or other carrier branded devices. Just means that Telus chose not to release the update....move along people not a huge deal right now.
It also means that if testing devices were given to Telus, hardware drivers were written. A leak of that testing rom would be nice.

Though I didn't see anything regarding testing in the PDF, so they might not have even bothered with it based on specs alone.

Telus canceled it, which meant HTC gave them a software update to test before rolling it out to consumers.
HTC hasn't canceled anything, they are pushing updates to carriers for testing, and it is up to those carriers to decide whether the update is good enough to release to customers or not. Telus decided that for their customers it wasn't. We know the DHD can handle Sense and ICS. So either HTC wrote incompetent software, or Telus decided it wasn't worth the money or time to test an update for a dated device (Much more likely). In both instances an official HTC made ICS rom exists.

Don't think they will straight up "release" a test build. It will have to be leaked internally.
Just hang tight, all it takes is one carrier to give the go ahead.....or for HTC themselves to cancel it.
In the astrix it says that HTC cancelled the upgrade for performance reasons, not Telus.

My Guess is that For the desired apps and pre-bundled setup that Telus will use will not perform well with ICS, as such may be canceled for that specific carrier. We'll still likely see it released straight from HTC (just not carrier-specific/bundled) since their blog still says that it's confirmed to get ICS.
Let me say, that if they can get ICS+Sense4.0 working on the Desire C (600mhz Snapdragon +512mb ram), there is zero reason they can't get it on a former flagship device in the Desire HD.
We don't know if HTC has canceled it across the board. If they have it will suck, but won't really matter in the long run. Camera fixes were the big deal here, it isn't the end of the world if they don't turn up.

Well said. Remember though that not only is Sense 4.0 less bloated than 3.6, the Desire C only has a HVGA resolution so it would naturally need less power. That said I still believe the 2nd gen 1ghz CPU and 768mb RAM within the Desire HD should run it just fine at WVGA.
Just read this, kinda sucks if it's true.

Yes, we will, its just a question of when!
HTC will have to apply their 'modifications' to it, i.e. Sense.
Then if yours is network branded, you have to wait until your network make it available to you, after they've made their changes!
Unless of course you've rooted, which case you should be able to apply a fresh ROM whenever it is made available.
I believe the above is correct, am sure someone will correct me if needed.
What I'm wondering is will FROYO make a different to the speed of the Legend? There are many reports online about how FROYO will make the Nexus One and Desire up to 300% faster due to the JIT Compiler (and other stuff?) ...but is this potential speed benefit applicable to the Legend?
I really really hope so...

HTC LEGEND is not getting 2.2 Update in 2010.
Source -->>URL product-reviews.net/2010/05/21/android-2-2-froyo-no-update-to-htc-hero-legend-and-droid-eris-phones
Following on from our previous article, which informed you about HTC’s plans to update their smartphones to the latest version of Android OS (2.2 Froyo), it seems that HTC deliberately left a few handset names off their initial upgrade list.
HTC issued a fresh statement, in which they detailed a few handsets that will be receiving the update to Android 2.2 first. These included the HTC Incredible, MyTouch 3G, HTC Desire and the HTC EVO 4G smartphone.
Does this mean that handsets such as the HTC Hero, Legend and Droid Eris will not be getting the update to 2.2 Froyo? We can understand the Hero and Droid Eris not being included on the list, since they were released a while ago now, but what about the HTC Legend?
The Legend was available after the HTC Desire, so it seems slightly odd that the statement from HTC didn’t include the handset on the list. Maybe it was just a bad choice of wording. Hopefully HTC will clear this up for us soon – we’ll update you when we can.

HTC Legend probably get Android 2.2 (FROYO) update because is launched this year, see here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/most-2010-htc-android-phones-will-get-froyo-2010
I really hope it does get updated, the whole reason I upgraded to legend and not desire was A. the industrial design of the phone, and B. sick of waiting around for 2.1 GSM hero update so gave the hero to GF.
Even after this statement im seeing a pattern here with HTC not clearly being able to state weather or not brand new phones will receive an update, or hell even when (2nd half of 2010 can mean December). If it does turn out our Legends dont get 2.2 I'm gonna stick with vanilla android experience on an unlocked N1, or hopefully N2.
I dont think that HTC will update Legend to 2.2.
Considering its RAM and processor Legend is behind from N1 and Desire or incredible.
Even i have Legend and its utterly dissapointing from the side of HTC to ignore such a high profile handset from new update.I ll never buy any handset from HTC now onwards.
F*** u HTC......
Froyo for Legend
I bought the legend some time ago. It would be a major dissappointment if HTC doesn`t create an update for it...let`s be realistic the amount of work they have to do once they change stuff to work on the Desire should be fairly minimal. Also I don`t think that the HW of Legend is not good enough to run Froyo (from what I`ve heart all devices should see a performance boost and the ROM itself should be smaller). Anyway we`ll see how it goes ). Worst case is that everybody will root their legends and flash it over and over again with unstable roms until it becomes an aluminium brick going back to HTC for replacement )
tbh if the mytouch slide is getting update i see no reason why they shouldn't update the legend either
the my touch has :
320x480 screen
600mhz cpu (same as legend i believe)
387mb ram
512mb rom
so spec wise its very similar to legend so its got nothing to do with the lack of snapdragon or screen res.
and tbh all devices even 1st gen should get an update for 1 very big reason JIT!
it will make everything faster.
really there is no reason not to update the legend
if all of us email them they might give an update let the legend 2.2 outcry begin!

why should the sense version matter ? either way they have to update sense on all the models to support the new 2.2 features for example why not just resize the desire one which is essentially the same as the legend minus the live wallpaper support
either way im sure 2.2 will popup in other non official roms

people forget about the specs these are not comparable to win xp & then vista & then win 7, these are not resource hungry, I reckon its handset selling gimmicks of HTC, i have fallen victim to it; i have sold my hero & bought LEGEND; now i suppose history is going to repeat itself on legend. this time wait is going to be for FROYO.
New article found now:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/33238/htc-phones-android-os-updates
i think we have update
Pff I bought the Legend in stead of the desire because I thought it would have better support on forums and from HTC (since it was the succesor to Hero) bad mistake, really hope we get the update, but I'm not really counting on it.
There is no reason why Legend shouldn't get the update...the specs are surelly enought. No need to panic guys....i mean even if there will be no official rom with 2.2 rom (which i trully doubt) there will be plenty of rooted roms available.
Let's just wait and see.
just wait n watch what HTC does. If they release 2.2 for Legend then is well gud otherwise HTC will loose its credibility..........
Update to froyo for htc legend is clearly 100% sure come on guys! It's sure because it's a phone tha has 2-3 months of life! It's sure htc will update it. The problem is when...even if I don't understand where is the difficulty to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2, it seems very simple, in fact google will update n1 in the next 2 weeks...I don't think the senseUI is so hard to update, considering that this upgrade is not revolutionary! The very cool features of froyo are simple to add to a device working on 2.1. So HTC move your ass and make this upgrade available for max september. If we will not have the upgrade for september will be really bad for a company like HTC that wants to fight against apple. So please make your engineers work hard to give us this upgrade quickly, considering it's also quite simple to do it.
you are absolutely right mate. legend has the power to run it. also Froyo has been built for more speed and stability. So unless HTC dont want to upgrade it for its marketing reasons, we ll have Froyo running on our legends.

I had a diamond 2 before the legend, and ii OS was windows mobile 6.1. HTC made available the 6.5 upgrade for free, so I can't imagine this time will do different. So it's only matter of time, and we all hope max 2-3 months from now it's enough.

Ok you need to breathe buddy, it's just been announced it will most probably take a month before it will be available on HTC as they need to incorporate Sense to it.
well if you recall the desire made the jump from 2.1 to 2.2 pretty soon after the 2.2 announcement, considering the DHD is the new flagship phone id imagine a very similar situation if not there is always custom roms
Wonder if cyanogen will publish it before htc that will be sweet

The DHD will most likely be the first HTC handset to receive the update. However, how long this takes is anyone's guess. Then your carrier will modify the update, unless of course you got a stock unbranded DHD.

I expect an announcement soon from HTC, i doubt they will let their flagship higher specs phone fall short against their direct competitor, classic desire was the first device to get froyo after the nexus
I'm betting on it being out around Christmas time,
Probably in 2 weeks we'll start to get them trickling out...
I hope that dhd will get it as soon as possible, but wouldn't be surprised if Samsung s get's it first considering cooperation of Google with them on new G phone.

anything new about Android 2.3 on the Desire HD?
HTC didn't announce ICS update, despite its brothers getting it.
We assumed it was hardware limitations with the smaller RAM (512mb)
But now HTC have announced the new HTC One V with ICS and Sense 3.6/4.0.
And guess what? It only has 512mb aswell.
So RAM can't be the issue. Maybe CPU power?

I think Nospin is right; commitment to the development of Android varies among different manufacturers. Commitment to profit does not. There is limited upside to them providing an upgrade. Chances are, we'll still purchase the next HTC phone when we get the money and/or discounted price with contract from our carriers, despite them choosing not to upgrade our phones. In other words, why provide us with an additional free service, when they're going to get our money in the future anyway. In fact, providing the upgrade might *deter* us from buying their latest and greatest.

That's cause the Desire HD IS a flagship device.
But I hope so, we will get custom ICS from HTC ONE V. I think it will be brilliant
I don't think the desire z will get a OTA update either. I think they plan it this way so that we have to upgrade and won't be content on sticking it out with our old devices. Either way the desire z will get ICS from cm9 most likely. It's taken longer then I wanted but I know it's in the works.
Just use Andromadus. I know it's not official, but you can rock it now. Which counts for a lot.

If this was Samsung, then I would agree with the Desire Z getting ICS. However HTC has already given us an unlocked bootloader as well as the source code for the Desire Z. There's no need for HTC to get involved anymore. This is exactly why places like XDA are important to the rest of us who "knows" our devices are still kicking strong because then we can just do the work ourselves. And besides, even if Desire Z does get an ICS update: the majority of us will still prefer Custom ROMs anyways. This way, everybody wins. HTC maintains a healthy reputation with us and we get to save some money.
heh, by "we", I mean the talented devs that still support our devices. I'm personally useless.

I agree, I think there would be two benefits of having ICS come officially to Desire Z / G2. First would be that that ROM would be a lot easier to modify and tinker with by the dev's then what they are working with currently. The second benefit would be in the form of less people asking for eta's on cm9. I would rather use a custom version of a rom than a stock rom, but the same doesn't go for everybody. I bet a lot of the traffic on xda is people just wanting ICS on their device period.

Hum, that's good!
It was confirmed today that HTC will update the Desire HD to ICS.
I think this is unfair, the Desire Z was released at the same time and cost the same. I have and still maintain that HTC should of never pushed a sense 3.x update to our devices, But with the announcement of the HTC One V and the leaked RUU's i can confirm that we now have a version of sense that runs very well on our devices.
So I am asking you to take 1 minute to sign the petition to get HTC to release an update for what seems to be a device they have forgotten about.

Please post this link on your blogs, twitter, facebook and anywhere else that you can get it some coverage.

Just a random thought. Could it be that they wont release ics for the dz ( just yet) because they are giving the older models, as we can see with sensation and the xe and xl. The 3.6 version of sense wich would run slow on our devices.
Maybe when they update there whole line with sense 4.0 the dz may get ics?

Yes i have read that but it says nothing about wich sense version they are using. My thought was the whole list is getting sense 3.6 wich maybe is to heavy for our device?

The explanation regarding Sense 3.6 and 4.0 can be seen here
HTC Sense 3.6 preview by Engadget
Both versions were developed in parallel to each other, which gave us even more reason to initially believe the two would be closer in look and features than they actually were. So what gives? According to HTC, there are a couple reasons: first, users of legacy devices are accustomed to the previous interface, and the upgrade adds the features and benefits of ICS without upsetting that user experience. Second, only the One lineup can support ImageSense, which is an integral part of Sense 4.0.

The reason the G2/Desire Z is not receiving the ICS update imo is the issue of RAM and not being a high end device (not worth the time in HTC's opinion?). All those devices on the update list are high end HTC devices with 768MB+ of RAM.

While I agree that they really skimped on the RAM with the Vision, for what it's worth I have signed the petition. I hope HTC listens.

Wasn't the g2 high end when it was released? I thought I remembered it being almost four without a contract or some **** like that.

It’s been nearly two years since HTC first announced the Desire HD, making it a proper dinosaur in the smartphone world. Despite its age, the manufacturer had been planning to give the smartphone a fresh new start with an Ice Cream Sandwich update. At least, that was the plan, but now it seems that HTC may have reversed course, and the Desire HD won’t be seeing an official ICS release, after all.
Back in May, we saw a list of which HTC models were due their ICS updates, and when; the Desire HD fell in the July-August range. We’d assume that was still the case, were it not for Canadian carrier Telus updating its own list of future software releases, noting that the Desire HD’s Ice Cream Sandwich release is now canceled. According to the carrier, “HTC has [canceled] the HTC Desire HD ICS upgrade due to poor device performance during testing.”
That’s a little surprising, because even with just a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon, the phone’s 768MB of RAM sounds sufficient for ICS operation, even if it might be a little pokey in spots. Apparently HTC just felt that the performance issues were too great to ignore; maybe Sense simply got in the way too much.
We haven’t heard any update from HTC itself on the Desire HD’s prospects, but if this really is the case in Canada, we can’t imagine things will be different elsewhere.

Are you kidding me? If you really had to post a thread about this, you could have posted it in general. Not in the development section.

First of all, wrong section.
Second of all, you'll notice that their source is actually from an XDA thread, this one. (And seeing that the linked page is the one that contains my post I guess I'm the source )
However, an XDA user contacted HTC on their Facebook page (link to post) and got the following answer:
Tom - volunteer helper said:
HTC are not cancelling their upgrade to ICS for the Desire HD as far as we know. If Telus have done this, it's unilateral on their part.

That's mentioned in the thread linked above, and that thread also contains an email reply that a different user received after emailing HTC's support and the email said that the update is still happening.
My guess is that HTC were hoping to get the upgrade ready by now, they got issues so they postponed the release, and some kind of miscommunication happened between them and Telus.
Either way, we're still in the first quarter of the time range HTC gave for the upgrade. So unless HTC makes an official statement that there won't be a release, then there's no reason to despair.
i wanted to share this with you all
so ppl can talk about it
we are here to inform and help each other
if this is not the proper place im sorry
i hope this is BS
we all want to see something more in this device

Also today, Telus launched the One X. Hmmm.

Sorry to be slightly off topic, but HTC never mentioned the Inspire 4G to get Ice Cream Sandwich, despite it being the AT&T version of the Desire HD.
Do you think the Inspire will get ICS?

HTC, unfortunately, has no control over the devices chosen to get an upgrade. HTC may make software that is for a device, but the carrier may say no. Sadly, ATT has deemed the Inspire to be End-Of-Line, and will receive no future updates. GB was the last, and final update.
if the new Desire C can run ICS and new Sense on a measly 600Mhz processor, the desire HD certainly can too
Android 4 Life
Desire HD will get ICS, if the Incredible S with the exact same specs is getting it too, then it would be trivial for HTC to do the same for the DHD.

Well I can understand HTC Inspire will don't get ICS, but what's app with Desire HD?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
one I do not believe Telus will not upgrade it. If they do not, I will be organizing a petition against them plus they will be getting some nasty phone calls. Plus I have a neighbour that works for Telus (but does not work in mobile) but I will ask him for help with this also.
There is no reason for the Telus Desire HD not to get it, it is not at the end of life, so there should be no reason. I think someone at Telus posted this because they know we are all waiting for it
Also shouldn't this be in general, and not development
Edit: I can not even see the phone on Telus site anymore (does this mean end of life)

Yeah, kinda raging at people who're getting all pissy about it. Look on the official site and you'll see it says that by the end of August we'll have ICS w/ Sense

Is there maybe a chance that we get Jelly Bean immediately instead of ICS?
or other question, if vodafone got the rom from HTC already so vodafone can customize it, shouldnt there be the original HTC rom already be available?
