[Q] At&t bloatware - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

hi i was just wondering, how much bloatware is on the att galaxy s3. Also how do you remove it, and if you you do remove it does it take away your LTE?

Lots!
Remove with Titanium Backup (you must be rooted for this)
Nope, LTE works just fine.

Need help to unlock Bell Galaxy S for Telus

Hi,
I bought a second hand Galaxy S a week or so ago that was modded with ICS installed. Since then, i've installed CM 7.2 and would like to unlock the phone for my mom so she can use it on Telus. When I bought it, I was told it was a Bell Galaxy S and since Bell and Telus work on the same network, it should be possible (I don't think it's a Rogers Galaxy S). It is already rooted and I tried the app Galaxy S Unlock buit it won't unlock the headset. The bars stay greyed out with a little X and no service. Can't get this to work, anyone have any ideas?
Try a different unlock app.
Otherwise, try flashing a rooted stock rom and try the unlock app again
Those apps are the easiest way to unlock the s.
Did you install busy box before using the app?

I tried another one called SGS Unlock Tool and it said my unlock and unfreeze code were the same: :null
Does that means it is unlocked, or is something else wrong? How can I go back to stock rom?

I've unlock 7/8 galaxy s and galaxy s II using helroz's app. Not sure whats gone wrong with you. Make sure you followed the procedures properly, and installing the busy box means open the app that you downloaded from market and choose busy box and install. Good lock

First use Motochopper to root so you can use Titanium Backup to freeze the bloat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248 this one will work).
Then you can install Goomananger so you can install TWRP (menu=>install open recovery): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager
Finally, if you're feeling brave, you can do a backup of your phone first then try installing CyanogenMod: http://get.cm/?device=jfltecan
The Canadian model is jfltecan. Remember to install GAPPS (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip)
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE.

unfortunately there is no firmware for (M) variant on the net. There is AT&T (USA) firmware, but for I337,
any way try to wipe cache via recovery.

Whats strange about it is the fact that right away, it had lag. I will try wiping the cache and will let you know.
I had an error when I tried wiping the cache.
Should I install a custom recovery as suggested earlier?

Someone else tried already. Apparently it will run. but without a Canadian modem to flash, there will be no network signal or wifi working.
When we have a modem to flash we should be OK.

Its SLIGHTLY better after clearing the cache via TWRP, but still lots of lag. Dont get it, from such a fast phone, there shouldnt be ANY lag! My Nexus 4 was SOO much smoother and faster (yet clearly not in benchmarks)

I too have an SGH-i337M (TELUS). Did you do the official update to build I337MVLUAMDJ? I had originally bought my phone on the unfinished I337MVLUAMDC and when I did the update a lot of the lag went away. However, I still had to freeze a lot of unwanted apps though settings > app manager, however I did come across a list of apps that were safe to remove/disable on the S3 (Some, not all are also found on the S4). You can see the list HERE.
Hopefully we'll see a list like this for the S4 soon.
[EDIT]
Also to note, I also came from a Nexus 4 and can definitely feel the difference as well, but the Nexus also didn't have bloatware running.

Mine came with the official build I337MVLUAMDJ and it was laggy as hell!
After rooting and removing lots of bloatware, it was still slow.
What cured my lag, was downloading the stock Firmware from Kies (and saving the file from temp folder, instead of using kies for the restore) and flashed it with odin. After restoring my backup from MyBackup Pro, its fast!
Why should we need to do all this work for a brand new phone. Good job Samsumg lol

Oh cool, I guess that works too lol. I managed to fix a majority of my lag after running a recovery script called "PalaTool" which was originally released for the Galaxy S III. The tool was designed to remove bloatware and allowed you to install optional UI changes and apps that could optimize things like Fast Dormancy, etc. Running the tool unfortunately doesn't remove the bloat, but it did with the Seeder Entropy Pool.

Then what is the point of rooting?
I want to get 4.3. :crying:
You will be able to install root access apps and certain mods. I personally don't find if useful at the moment, so I'll be waiting for a bootloader unlock. (Which is what is actually needed for flashing ROMS).

With Root (and a locked bootloader) you can do TONS of stuff.
- Install and use TiBu
- Change framework for unlocking many neat customizations
- Remove/disable bloatware
- Allow for wifi tethering
- Disable ads
- Change startup/shutdown/system sounds
- Change bootup animations
- etc..
Just because you have a locked bootloader does not mean you have no use for root.

You can install the Xposed Framework and add a multitude of various mods to your setup. I used it when waiting for the original boot loader work around. Its quite nice actually. The amount of options have only expanded since that time. Check it out.

Use the search function and search the forums for "sysscope" or "custom" or visually search for threads that have that subject in the title. You should find tons of information about it within the first page or two of the "general" and "Q&A" sub forums.

There are several threads about it here on XDA. It's the Samsung screen notice that you've changed their OS. Sort of like the old triangle on the S2 when you trip the rom-flash counter.
I was able to eliminate the unlocked lock symbol using Chainfire's Triangle away (might be on XDA, but I bought it on Play).
Read the caveats and decide if you want to use it. . . worked for me on my i337 running SHOstock2.1!
Good Luck!

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Unlock Bootloader

Hi, guys. I recently got a phone from my grandmother. It's a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. It's network provider is NTT docomo. My problem is the docomo apps, I want to get rid of them. How can I do that? Please go easy on me. I'm just a beginner.
Root is nowhere to be found at first glance for the SC-02G, so you have to look around and try to root it without bricking. Next get titanium backup and freeze the bloatware. There is no custom rom either.
Oh. But if I flash a new ROM, will the apps disappear? Or do I have to root before flashing?

You can't flash another ROM other than the stock ROM, which contains the DoCoMo apps. I am somehow envious of you because you have an NTT DoCoMo branded phone but you use it outside of Japan, because here i am in Japan with an European SM-G900F. And as how root is nowhere, tough luck. You *may* want to compare your device with the S5 Active, but as i know DoCoMo devices, it will not be even close.

Unfortunately you can't. Odin will not let you flash it. You might want to search for root. Are you sure its bootloader is locked? Because if it is, again, you might want to compare it to the SM-G870A. Try Kingoroot or some of the one-click root programs and see if you have any luck.
How will I know if bootloader is locked? I'm sorry. I really don't know anything. Huhu.

to be honest, neither do i. I have only owned unlocked bootloader devices. let's assume the bootloader is unlocked. there are no custom roms, and i suggested you use a one-click root solution to see if you can root the phone.
Okay. What program should I use? I see Odin and KingRoot as the most recommended.
