Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Unlock Bootloader - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, guys. I recently got a phone from my grandmother. It's a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. It's network provider is NTT docomo. My problem is the docomo apps, I want to get rid of them. How can I do that? Please go easy on me. I'm just a beginner.

Root is nowhere to be found at first glance for the SC-02G, so you have to look around and try to root it without bricking. Next get titanium backup and freeze the bloatware. There is no custom rom either.

Oh. But if I flash a new ROM, will the apps disappear? Or do I have to root before flashing?

You can't flash another ROM other than the stock ROM, which contains the DoCoMo apps. I am somehow envious of you because you have an NTT DoCoMo branded phone but you use it outside of Japan, because here i am in Japan with an European SM-G900F. And as how root is nowhere, tough luck. You *may* want to compare your device with the S5 Active, but as i know DoCoMo devices, it will not be even close.

Hmm. So basically, there's no other way? Huhu. The apps are getting on my nerves. What will happen if I flash a ROM other than the original?

Unfortunately you can't. Odin will not let you flash it. You might want to search for root. Are you sure its bootloader is locked? Because if it is, again, you might want to compare it to the SM-G870A. Try Kingoroot or some of the one-click root programs and see if you have any luck.

How will I know if bootloader is locked? I'm sorry. I really don't know anything. Huhu.

to be honest, neither do i. I have only owned unlocked bootloader devices. let's assume the bootloader is unlocked. there are no custom roms, and i suggested you use a one-click root solution to see if you can root the phone.

Okay. What program should I use? I see Odin and KingRoot as the most recommended.

Odin is just a firmware flasher for Samsung devices. KingRoot.

Okay. If I do this, is there a chance that my phone be bricked?

Not really. But if you do something bad after root, then yes.

Okay, okay. Will try later. Can I add you on Facebook so we can talk faster?

[Q] At&t bloatware

hi i was just wondering, how much bloatware is on the att galaxy s3. Also how do you remove it, and if you you do remove it does it take away your LTE?
Lots!
Remove with Titanium Backup (you must be rooted for this)
Nope, LTE works just fine.

n00b here...
Then what is the point of rooting?
I want to get 4.3. :crying:
You will be able to install root access apps and certain mods. I personally don't find if useful at the moment, so I'll be waiting for a bootloader unlock. (Which is what is actually needed for flashing ROMS).

With Root (and a locked bootloader) you can do TONS of stuff.
- Install and use TiBu
- Change framework for unlocking many neat customizations
- Remove/disable bloatware
- Allow for wifi tethering
- Disable ads
- Change startup/shutdown/system sounds
- Change bootup animations
- etc..
Just because you have a locked bootloader does not mean you have no use for root.

You can install the Xposed Framework and add a multitude of various mods to your setup. I used it when waiting for the original boot loader work around. Its quite nice actually. The amount of options have only expanded since that time. Check it out.

BTW, is there a way to get this phone to check for updates from G instead of ATT so we can get 4.3 that way?

Use the search function and search the forums for "sysscope" or "custom" or visually search for threads that have that subject in the title. You should find tons of information about it within the first page or two of the "general" and "Q&A" sub forums.

There are several threads about it here on XDA. It's the Samsung screen notice that you've changed their OS. Sort of like the old triangle on the S2 when you trip the rom-flash counter.
I was able to eliminate the unlocked lock symbol using Chainfire's Triangle away (might be on XDA, but I bought it on Play).
Read the caveats and decide if you want to use it. . . worked for me on my i337 running SHOstock2.1!
Good Luck!

The answer is "yes," UNLESS your stock rom is version is MF3, in which case the answer is "NO...for now," as mg2195 just mentioned and explained in the preceding post. . .

There's a post in the general section talking about flashing carrier Roms. So if I rooted and say installed a twrp using ROM toolbox to flash these Roms, including "loki'd" and my carrier kernel wouldn't that work ?

If you're on the mf3 firmware you can't install twrp. And don't try as you will probably brick your phone. Do you know what firmware you're on?

[Q] International firmware on AT&T device

Hi,
I want to install the international firmware on the Note 3 (SM-N900A) to bypass the sim-lock. I'll be getting the firmware from the web page "galaxynote3root".
Does anybody know if that's possible?
The reason I'm doing it is that I want to unlock sim. I know there are sites that sell unlock codes for very little money but they warned me that I need to use the phone at least once in AT&T network first and there's no way I can do it, so...
If anybody knows about a different way, please speak up.
Thank you in advance for your answers!

dude, sprint will NOT activate ANY phone unlocked or not. it isn't like a gsm where the sim card carries the network for phone calls. u can unlock a sprint phone and use it on a gsm carrier but not the other way around. the only way is to clone a esn from another sprint phone and patch it to the motherboard of the att phone. i would think it would be too much trouble to fool with. i have used sprint for 10 years prob i know how the network works
