Strange, but this is exactly the same thing I did lol.
The moment I got home with my Nexus, I immediately flashed MIUI.
Currently I'm on stock 2.3.7 with Wallet. (I've been wowing everyone at McDonalds and Best Buy with that lol)
I came from the dev failure that was, the Epic 4G.
Matrix or netarchy. I personally use matrix it gives me awesome battery life. But they're different for everyone so you will just have to try them out and see which one works for you.

Trinity. for speed/performance or for battery life, and everything in between. theres a version for all
Apocalypse Talon. Snappy, great battery life. Using it with Cyanogen 7.1. Your mileage may vary.

Hi, recently got a NS too. What is your battery life and type of usage? What governor have you set?

+1 certainly the best kernel for miui.

Congrats on your new nexus s. Great device.
As for kernels...well from my experience, i would say netarchy all the way for stability and performance combo. Never had any problems with his kernels. Its got all the usual features such as voltage control, voodoo controls etc. Very stable.
Trinity has been good for some but ive found it too unstable more often than not.
Havent really tried the matrix kernels so cant really say.
Have fun!

Franco kernel is good for cm7 and matr1x kernel is good for almost any rom

I use CM7 Nightly Build#229 (Best build yet) with Matr1x Kernel. But i agree that Trinity is the best Kernel for MIUI.
I highly recommend franco's kernel with custom UV settings and the lazy governor. Netarchy has been on hold recently but looks like it might be back in business soon.
try NSCollab ROM + matr1x or franco's kernel

I have 58% left after 1 day of normal usage with Matr1x kernel with ondemand enabled. I underclocked it to 800Mhz. That's enough to do my everyday stuff. When I game, I put it higher.
Hey EP, long time no see. I just traded my SGS4G for a NS so I guess I'll Be seeing you around. I went with cm.

Got one yesterday and very good. Better than my old Epic.

Cyan-iap?

Holy crap, I can't keep current with cyanogen roms and iap kernels. Dude, you release like 10 kernels a month! Haha. God love you for it but hot damn. I'm too afraid to flash a kernel with cyanogen because since its become official, its been just fine. Any insight?

If it ain't broken for you, don't try to fix it.

The latest iap kernel is great... he left out the voodoo sound drivers (for now) so the feedback is gone. Great alternative if your looking for overclocking features in a kernel. But as zeinzu said "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

Kernel

Hi! I'm running virus ROM Andi want to overclock but from what I've read so far you gotta have a custom kernel that's compatible with the ROM your using. Which kernel(s) are compatible with virus ROM B1-3. Thanks.

Virus made a ton of ROMs. Which one exactly are you on? Froyo? Sense 1.0, sense 3.0 (kingdom)?
More specifics.
If it's froyo, go with netarchy kernels, if it's gingerbread, I believe you want lithids kernel (freedom, I believe it's called), or barnacles kernel (chop suey). Or I also believe there's a lionfish kernel, too.
Basically, netarchy kernels are for froyo (2.2), the others are for gingerbread (2.3). That's the main thing to know. I'm pretty sure netarchy never built any GB kernels (been a long time, but I believe I'm right).
Virus always built the best ROMs. Good choice.

Netarchy made golden monkey for GB

Its Virus ROM Kingdom 2.3.3 with sense 3.0 and its pretty fast but I want to overclock it and see how much faster I can make it.

Thanks evil. Forgot about that. I was pretty much done with sense around that time. So trying to remember all the GB sense kernels was a tall task lol
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
So what kernel should I use and is it gonna cause any problems? The stock kernel is really stable.
Sent From My HTC EVO On Boostmobile
The only GB sense rom I used was blue merge. But I liked using barnacles chop suey kernel with it. Actually, that ROM can with a kernel called poonkernel, or something like that, and it was pretty wicked in its own right.
I believe lithids freedom kernels have different levels of undervolting. Less, more, and aggressive.
But really, with kernels, as long as your using a compatible kernel, beyond that, you kinda just have to try em and see which one your phone seems to prefer. Every Evo is different.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I would look into ca1nes kernels, classic sense and underworld SBC would be the ones I'd recommend since they are being actively developed and still supported, barnacles, lithid, and netarchy have all moved on to other devices
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
underworld ran great on derp3d (a sense 3.0 rom as well)

Well a few things you are about to get a lot opinions which is not going to help you. You should take a wander over to the dev section and check some out for yourself everyone's millage will vary. I am a CM nut with stock kernel both 7 and 9 have stable releases for the D700 not the 600 that is in your sig. If you are on a 700 and your sig is just messed up might I suggest these and not in any specific order:
The People's Rom
CM7/9/10
Clean GB
EDIT:
The SPH-D600 is the conquer

Oh okay. Yeah I forgot about MIUI and AOKP damn didn't mean to forget about Paranoid. Just not a big fan of MIUI and AOKP everyone's mileage varies and what one likes others might not just find out what works for you. Just remember if you convert to MTD when you odin back to stock you will have to check repartition.

Kernel for CM10

Oh god. This is going to get locked. Just giving you fair warning.
Honestly, I really like Franco r31.
Harsh kernel is good, too.

The stock kernel.
Yeah man this is just a sitting duck for a mod to lock but I would go with franco r31 and motley exp10 for cm as a close second. Every phone reacts different to kernels but those 2 are by far the best on my phone and I think I've tried them all to this point. Lots of people like trinity also:thumbup:
