Yesterday I accidentaly removed some files in /data and the phobe immediately freezed.
When i tried to power on the phone i got a boot loop but i was still able to get in bootmenu and recovery mode.
Then i flashed several roms but still i got a boot loop.
then i used rds lite with various sbf including
JORDN_U3_97.21.51
3.4.2_177-005_NORDIC
but the situation is even worse because now the phone shows always a black screen
I guess you forgot to factory reset. Get into the stock recovery (power off >> hold power + up >> at the screen with android press up + down, wipe everything), reboot.

after flashing JORDN_U3_97.21.51, when i hold power (or power + vol up) the phone seems dead, the display remains dark.
The phone goes directly into bootloader mode even if don't hold vol up.
The screen blacklight is off but RDS lite recognize my defy.

You have to hold power + vol down to get into stock recovery,
Power + vol up is for bootloader mode.
whatever combination of buttons i hold, the phone goes into bootloader mode
the screen backlight turns on only while flashing.
Also i've trayed dozens of SBFs but still my defy won't resuscitate
Have the screen after flashing looked like this:

1.First check if your battery is charged. Is it charging when charger plugged in? (battery icon with percentage). If not try to charge it with other defy or external charger.
2. If u flashed nothing higher then CG5 then flash chinese eclair (first one u mentioned in the 1st post) then go to this thread, part Common Problems/Questions, use method 2. with slight modification.
1st sbf is just this eclair u mentioned - then u r done for item 1.
For item 5. choose this CM7 (do not flash maniac's CM7 - because of lack of space in the phone)
The modification is do not perform item 6. - simply do not reboot but go to 7. - wiping in CWM.
After u go to point 9. start the system. Now u can flash any CM7 or 9 from CWM

So most probably it means that u don't fulfill condition of my 2, point & your phone was flashed with full sbf with CG higher then 5.
Then hope that your defy is either red lens or plus, otherwise u lost your camera.
Here u can find sbfs with download links
This post by walter79 will give u some advice which sbf u can use and which to avoid

hehe agreed, same here P:
After reviewing the list you showed us here this are all froyo/eclair SBF's means their CG's are not higher than 4, means you could even flash the great clear cee nordic to revive your defy(dont try it now though after the JORDN_U3_97.21.51). Thats really weird that your phone died after JORDN_U3_97.21.51, maybe out of battery? could you try to get another battery? maybe load it in an external charger? i dont see any reason for the phone not to boot up normally.

But since you already flashed the chinese eclair rom which is CG 5 dont try to flash anything else but that, your phone should be able to boot just fine with that one.

If RSDlite still recognised your phone its not completely bricked. Make sure you flash an android version equal to the last SBF you flashed, IE DO NOT flash 2.1 if you already flashed 2.2. Other than this you may have to wait for the experts to reply as I haven't the experience and I own the original, green lensed defy

Hello mates,

but after upgrading, has given me the battery fault that I was 100%
I tried several times to put him the Fix battery, but nothing at all ...
so I've taken to "Flashing" the Defy, first I tested with
ME722BL6.sbf
later with
rom_froyo.sbf
and when I RDSLite says "the phone is beein Rebbot" or something .. I restart, get the Motorola logo disappears .. and goes blank ..
and puts me in RDSLite "Finished" and "PASS"
Defy but does nothing ... and when I press the power button is switched off, give it back, turn again as "Bootloader" with the following error
Err: A5, 70,39,00,27
I've also tried to say next. "sbf"

Which stock ROM were you on? If you flash the same ROM again, you should not have this problem. This happens mostly if you flash a ROM with lower BL than the current one on your phone.

The first SBF i put, there rom_froyo.sbf (original from motorola i think)
before i try to upgrade to CM10-20120904 i have kernel 2.3.4 and i think that the same "rom_froyo.sbf", because i made only one time Flash with RDSLite...
from first and unique flash with RDSLite, only i made update from recovery mode - install zip from sd
only put cm7, cm9 and cm10, then the Gapps... and the last time when upgrade to cm10 i made, install cm10.zip, install kernel 2.3.4, and install gapps...
Any idea about the firmware version?

As you flashed ME722BL6.sbf, you are now on BL6 and I assume that's a Defy+ ROM, so no downgrade to Froyo. Try flashing the ME722BL6.sbf file again and don't flash froyo ROM on top of it. If it gets stuck on M logo, go to recovery and do a factory reset.
If you have a greenlens defy, you can no longer use the camera.

the principal problem now is that can not made nothing... only it put in white led when i connected to usb...(no combination (power+vol+ or power vpl-) made nothing)
Try this: Pull out battery. Keep volume + pressed. Insert battery and then press power button. It should now enter bootloader mode. Connect it now to PC and then flash SBF with RSD.

What defy you have: red, green or plus? You cant install lower rom than 188. If you have plus - you'll have all things working, red - battery can make work with batt fixes, green - camera will never work on BL7, only on CM10,CM9.1 or other roms with custom kernel. You're stuck on BL7 so try flash 231 sbf. Read this post, you'll find more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12419400&postcount=3

Hi Frnd,
How you solve this problem, I have the same problem...
Plz, help me.... in Advnc Thanx......
Attempting to update a US-Tmobile Defy (green lens) with CM7 to CM10
1. As a 1st step wanted to do a full Nandroid - but the backup repeatedly failed.
2. Next, installed RSD lite to unroot, revert to stock, 1st tried with "JORDN_U3_6.36.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz"
After completion, the Defy was stuck in a boot loop
3. Finally, used RSD lite attempting to unroot & revert to stock using, "T-Mobile_MB525_6.19.0_1FF.zip"
After completion, the phone would not boot nor go into bootloader.
The battery was very low and I suspect that it may be the reason I cannot start the bootloader. The phone, in its current state does not seem to charge the battery.
Please help!
Doug

Do you get something like :
'battery ok in bootloader' ?
EDIT:
I see you are not able to see boorloader at all.
one thing you can do is :
connect the phone to your system
start rsd lite
take out the battery
insert it again
and immediately press power and volume up.
you may not see the bootloader on the screen but your device may show up on rsd lite.then you can flash your sbf.

You must charge your battery. The possible ways are:
1. with friend's defy or external charger
2. McGyver way - find in threads, but use with caution
Hey All,
I'm sick and tired of flashing SBFs to my Defy. I made a mistake and didn't flash the CM7 kernel after flashing CM10 and Gapps and now it's doing the 'blank screen unless you flash a SBF in RSDlite' nonsense. I've flashed a million SBFs, none of them work. I cannot get anywhere except the bootloader mode with the blank screen. The battery is charged, etc.
If someone has a step or two I can try, I'm game; but if no one can help, Imma shoot it (or ship it to someone if they want it).
Thanks dudes.
I hate motorola.
Use this chinese, it will work no matter what.

Unless you really want to ship it to me, then I'm game. I need a new defy cause mine is kinda busted. The earpiece doesnt work and the lighted buttons at the bottom dont work too well, I had to install CM10 for on screen navigation. I can provide the shipping address for you and stuff.
It really doesn't boot to the bootlogo or bootanimation? Have you tried entering stock recovery and wiping data and cache? That's a must for a stock ROM to work after using a custom one... Get your battery out; hold volume down + power button and insert the battery while holding; keep holding and it should enter stock recovery after a couple of seconds at the red M splash screen. Then press both volume keys at the same time for the menu to show up!

He's right.
I don't know how many times that Chinese SBF got me unbricked. Always did the trick for me.
The only thing is: you'll be stucked with BL7 forever.
But that doesn't prevent you from using other Custom ROMs, just from using the usual SBF files provided by other carriers.
If you'r willing to try, here's a step-by-step guide:

Alright, so I flashed the file, but I have the same issue. The phone does not do anything with any type of button combination, however if I plug it into a computer, I can flash a file to it and the screen shows the progress. That's all I can get to show on the screen at all. I have 2 batteries of good condition and an external battery charger.
Any ideas?

Flash the chinese SBF in RSD lite, the progress bar (on your PC) should count to 100% twice. It will then reboot your phone for you.
Do not unplug your phone before RSD lite says finished.. And yes, wiping in stock recovery is a must.
Don't lose hope on your defy, it is almost impossible to brick

Thanks for your replies guys. Ya, I did this and it says PASS but when it says that it's rebooting the phone, it never does. I can't get into the stock recovery to wipe anything Any more ideas? Perhaps I'm holding the wrong buttons?

Try doing this:
- once the SBF is flashed, wait for RSD Lite to finish its work
- if it says "Restart the phone manually" remove the battery and unplug the phone
- put the battery back in
- press and hold power and vol- buttons for a few seconds
- release the power button, but keep vol- button pressed
- if it shows a sign with Android guy and a ! in a triangle, release vol- button and press both vol+ and vol- buttons at the same time
- if nothing changes, press the screen at the bottom right corner (just above the magnifying glass, i.e. regular search button)
This should bring up stock recovery from which you should be able to wipe data/cache. This screen should be available by default, but sometimes it's hidden. After wiping the stuff, simply reboot the phone from the recovery.
I hope this helps.
Welp, I'm having some issues with my own Defy as well. So, yesterday I flashed that Chinese SBF. And now I can say that the steps from my previous reply won't work.
My wrong. This method does work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542956
Even though I didn't have an access to stock recovery and didn't wipe everything, the SBF loaded just fine, as well as the second (rooted one). Try that method, andjohn.
However, this didn't solve my problem with the camera, unfortunately, so I'm off to my thread.

Probably you are trying to flash an earlier BL version than what is already flashed.
So you probably need to try a BL7 SBF.
If you give up on your Defy give me a price to ship it to Australia. I might take it off your hands.

Hello and happy holidays!
I have recently bought a Defy+ and i wanted to root after about 2 weeks of use mostly for removing some bloadware and killing ads and more thingies...
As you can guess from this thread title i freaking bricked it...
So let me tell you what i have done until now.
A)I followed this one
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82806
so i can flash it because no program like SuperOneClick was working.
My baseband was somewhere in the mid of these 2 (something like 60 i can't recall anymore)
According to some posts there even another one with my baseband could follow the second procedure
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013 ) and end up with a rooted defy+.
I flashed it and was the screen stayed black... Well at the time i could thing that this was bad... I flashed the other 2 and i was waiting in vain...
B) after this complete failure came the funny part... I DONT REMEMBER anything about my stock sbf  ... Seriously it didnt cross my mind to write it down.
So i started trying to flash it with the Unbrick your Defy+ guides.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828639
Tried the site http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php
i even tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820282 in case it had a good effect. Well it hadnt
Until now i am still in the company of a lovely black screen...
MY CONDITION NOW :
RSD 5.6 at first before B step went to 5.9.
1) Insert battery = black screen
2)Power button = black screen
3)Power button pressed with VOL + or - , insert battery = black screen!
4)My pc (win7) finds the phone + White Led
5)RSD detects it cause i can flash it. (about 10 times now...)
6)Phone can be charged (Thank you God)
7)Every single one sbf goes Finished- PASS...
Some more information.
- I am from Greece and the Rom used Greek(localization stuff)
- The Rom had Blur (God Damn it)
- Android was 2.3.6
/EDIT
-RSD report that i have Bootloader version v0x000910 on phone...
Android Play store reports my Defy+ as "Vodafone Motorola MB526". (Should i go for Vodafone singed packages?)
I have read almost any thread for the broken Defy+ but the real problem is that i can not recall my stock sbf
And the questions from here...
a) Is there a way to see my bootloader version while in this messed up state? (and does it even matter?)
b) If it was a Vodafone Blur there would some dinstict features i could have seen? ( so i can start flashing vodafone sbf again...)
c) http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php has only full sfb right?
d) Suppose i had a v6 sfb,If i tried a higher sfb version wouldnt the phone worked?
e) I have tried all the http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php that is Retail Central Europe (GR_SIGN) but i have failed should i tried them again?
-EDIT- (forgot questions after my chrome crashed)
f) Should i try all 2.3.6 Roms from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
g) DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.x . This x does it play any role? If anything fails should i try the last chinese one(DFPRC_U_4.5.3) ?
I am sorry for the long post but i am a little at loss here...
Thank you for your time even if you have just read all this and dont know anything
Flash a sbf with the name dfp 231 (bl7)

Well i tried about 6 sbf with dfp 231. From DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CN that is used for bl7 root (the first one that made the black screen my lovable partner) to British/retail CEE/unknown/ o2 / vodafone /german / nordic and nothing happened. All Finish /pass and all black screen + white led.
RSD report that i have Bootloader version v0x000910 on phone. I hope this can help in some way...
I decided to try all the 2.3.6 sbfs... let's see...
Hm...
i just flashed
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-312_TMOUK_SIGN_USADEFYEMARAB1B8TMDE011.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRTMDE_P029_A033_M008_Service1FF
and phone stuck at reboot manually your phone. and now is dead. Cant connect to pc. nice...
You may have ran out of battery. If the dfp 231 flashing resulted in a black screen after a data wipe then you should try selecting the blank flash option. Also try a different cable. If still there's a problem then it'd reckon it's hardware failure
About the boot loader code, yeah it's fine but unfortunately is no help

if you dont fix it yet
charge your battery and put this sbf with RSDlite
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43690836/An...gerbread_2.3.6_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_CGv7.zip
after you charge the battery check if rsd see your phone when is in OFFmode and flash the sbf in this way
THANK YOU for your time and your responses.
What do you mean blank flash? Its the first time i come across this term.
My speculations was also that i am out of battery so i ordered an external battery charger from ebay just to be sure.( i have seen the mcgyer way but i am afraid to do it cause everything are going south at the moment so just to be sure )
I have also came across the idea of the factory cable. From the threads here in xda there is a user who actually tried one on a defy (MB525) so i am thinking of ordering one of these.
NEW INFO. Android Play store reports my darling dead Defy+ as "Vodafone Motorola MB526". I think i should turn to Vodafone Blur singed packages. What do you think?

reinstall the drivers if the pc doesnt see the phone
I will change the usb and i ll reinstall the drivers.
Thank you for the info on the term!
I will wait for the power to charge and i will try again.

So i ll choose it before i flash.Ok i ll try it that too.
I am currently waiting my external battery wall charger and my factory cable from ebay.
I used the pc usb charge all night trick and nothing happened... :crying:
So i will wait to charge the battery by normal means and then if this also fails i will try for the factory cable.
Anyone has any thoughts on the factory cable?
Mcgyer trick is the factory cable, using which one can flash without battery

Wait.Factory cable loads directly the bootloader while Mcgwer trick just gives power to the phone.
And i think factory cable its safer when you use it because the phone is actually waits to be given a 5V supply in that pin and there is not a chance of frying anything,
I think... :S
Boot into bootloader "power+vol up"
If battery is down you will read
Battery down cannot progamn"

The problem is that i can no longer boot to anything. THE only thing that my defy+ does is the white led when connected to pc. nothing else. nothing at all.
And the battery, power button, vol + or vol - doesnt work with nothing because i can only stare at the blank screen of my defy+...
:crying:
