Hot reboot in cm7 - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone got a mod for cm7 roms that allows hot reboots from the reboot menu like miui does?

[Solved] Temproot is good!

Hey people,
There's a lot of talk about permrooting the desire z etc. But i just want to throw this out there.
I like temproot via visionary. And i'll tell you why.
First, temproot is sufficient for titanium to back up your phone and restore it.
Second, temproot is enough to overclock your phone by running scripts in gscript. And even though you have to do it manually after reboot (ie lost root) it really takes less than 10 seconds after you have it all set up.
Third, if i've done something to create a problem (I mean temporary things like overclock, disabling packages etc.), i can just reboot and voila! Working phone again. However, i'm not sure this would make the phone "invincible" to tampering. Make sure you know what you're doing or don't do it!!!!
This is assuming you like your current ROM, like I do, and you're not too hung up on nandroid/bart backups. Personally, i prefer nandroid/bart from a good clockworkmod custom backup, but it's a tradeoff with having an almost perfectly safe rooting experience.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yes but can you flash ROMs? Nope. It's a completely different experience once you start flashing. And you can always revert the perm root if you run into problems with the phone...
It's a good point you make.
On my G1 I tried all the CM ROMS I could try, and super d, e, and f. I loved the tweaks available and sent most nights flashing or testing ROM and kernel combos.
But in the end I, personally was essentially looking for what this current sense ROM seems to be delivering so far. Just my personal taste right now.
It was just food for thought for all those who may feel squeamish about permroot on their new phone but want a little bit more freedom.
I'm sure in a few months i'll be modding the crap out of this thing anyway. Can't suppress the inner nerd forever lol.

A couple month!? I literally rooted this and started flashing like a madman the second this was out of the box... where do you find the restraint?
HTC Vision/T-Mobile G2 w/Cyanogenmod 6.1.1&G2 Fast kernel.
Maybe I'm overestimating myself haha. When I finally got into super d on my g1 I was like "this is good, this is fast, just be happy with this" but still I was swapping ROMs left and right like every night haha
Once I was working out of town and I tried a new overclocking kernel first thing in the morning, got my phone all goofed up including my SD card corrupted somehow, used a blackberry torch to format and to get the stock Android 1.0 nbh back on my SD card, and had the thing rooted and running a brand new ROM by the end of breakfast. Lol.
Soooooo maybe i'll last a couple more days haha
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I couldn't live without CyanogenMod. There is no reason to NOT permaroot.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Gscript overclocking is inefficient, if you want a stable and consistant OC with UV kernels you'll have to root. My 2cents.
I am very familiar with cm6, but I want you to covert me lol.
What makes the script oc inefficient?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You can't undervolt for screen off profiles or change voltage for smoother performance, you can only set 1 OC speed with gscript running at stock voltage. So when you set your cpu speed to let's say 1.4GHz with gscript it is always running at that speed when the power is on, thus using more power, even with the screen off.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Hmm. I am not sure about controlling the voltages (important for battery life and cpu heat, right?), but both set cpu and system panel both show my cpu freq as changing from 245 MHz to 1017 MHz (or 1420 MHz if i want) according to demand with a good half dozen other speeds in between.
Edit: perhaps i should note that i was using the cpoc.sh, oc.sh (or ohshitttt.sh), and noreboot.sh scripts i found somewhere. They seem to work pretty well so far. I don't know too much about mflops, but i just did one and my d z was 37 @ 1017 MHz and 49 @ 1420 MHz.

Thanks for this thread. Coupled with ianmcquinn's post about Permanent Root, I made the decision to root. Less than 5 minutes later, it was done.
...and I guess, sorry for the *bump,* but I'm new to this forum and hope you don't beat me me too badly with those nunchakus.
Honestly, I don't know WHAT I was thinking lol.
Actually, at the time, none of the custom roms offered anything more than the stock rom + oc, unless you wanted aosp on your dz or sense on your G2. Now, it's an entirely different story. Thanks to great devs (siulmagic in particular when it comes to diversity) we have:
Like 10 versions of Sense from 1.0 over Froyo, to Sense 3.0 over Gingerbread 2.3.4 and everything in between.
Probably twice as many takes on AOSP, mostly from cm7, but cm6 and other AOSP sources as well.
I think there might be five MIUI roms kicking around too.
If you are newly rooted, my top 3 suggestions for exploring new roms are:
1. Virtuous Unity: The ultimate in Sense flashiness, but also very quick and stable. Watch out for Sense Paradox too!
2. Osimood MIUI: the included kernel puts it above the others (right now). Otherwise, I think all the lastest MIUI builds are essentially the same. MIUI is something totally different for android. Don't dismiss it too quickly
3. SuperCM7: a cm7 build that just feels right. Fantastic performance and flexibility.
To be honest, I'm using SenseGinger 3.0 as my daily driver right now, but I've done some tweaks to it myself. I find it to be a very well rounded contribution as well.

Perm-rooting: its like temprooting, but several times better without the headaches.
Lol... wow, how'd this thread resurface?! I can't even count the number of rom flashes and fried SD Cards since I posted here in January!

Some things not right on CM7. What rom are you using?
Call wonks, portrait / landscape issues, lockups, just tired. Need a superuser rom.
What's problem-free with audio boost?
None of those problems here, running CM7 7.0.2.1
Same here. None of those for me on 7.0.2
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Flashed 7.0.2 yesterday on my D1, and today flashed back to Simply Stunning 5.2. The 7.0.2 build just doesn't work for me... it's responsive, snappy, and stable....oh, accept that it dumps my homescreen Widgets whenever it rebooted or after prolonged periods of having the screen off (other have this issue as well). I also couldn't manage to get Wireless Tether working on it, even after an uninstall, reinstall, and fresh binaries set up. Other than not having a set of usable homescreens, it seems great though. I'll wait for a new build, and give it another shot...a rare miss from CM.
VZW Galaxy Tab- rooted, KhasMek v5 kernel, KhasMek K-Lean ROM
Big improvements on 7.0.2.1. Most of my previous issues seem to be gone.

I'll have to check it's out then. I, like a lot of others, was really bemused by the lack of stability. Considering it took so long to get CM7 for the Droid, I was expecting the first release to be well tested and really amazing. Hopefully the issues have been hammered out.

Been using formels MIUI. If you do go MIUI i would say go with a home replacement like launcherpro/ADW. Cant stand the normal homescreen of MIUI
Dropped CM7 at 7.0.3.... it just wasn't working out for me on a lot of levels. I found Liquid Gingerbread though, and its been absolutely amazing! None of the occasional bloat that comes with CM7, and it's surprisingly more customizable. I was also averaging a 1013 quadrant score on the stock kernel (800 MHz), vs around 825 with CM7. Most importantly, it doesn't drop 3g, which means I can actually use Wireless Tether! All in all, I think I'll be sticking with Liquid for a while...and did I mention? Not a single FC in the 2 weeks I've been on it!

The CM7 nightlies have finally rid the wonk and the call delay should be fixed in the next nightly.
since a few months I went over to the RoDrIgUeZsTyLe MIUI mod, and by the looks of it right now, I won't be going back.
It's faster and my battery lasts longer.
I've been using cm7 nightly's and get weird lock/unlock issue. Buttons light up, but the screen stays dark.
Rather annoying, I could use a new ROM as well.

this is a bug they are trying to kill. when this happens and i was trying to unlock my device, i just wait a few seconds to let the screen lock itself again which is indicated by the 4 button lights going back off. then press again and the screen should turn on properly this time, swipe to unlock, done.

Where i download liquid ginger rom for nexus
Thanks
I would also like to know where i can get the liquid ginger rom.
Evervolv. I switched to it from cm7 due to the same issues OP is running into.
Call wonks, portrait issues, freezes, no 90 degree... after every update i give it a try and end up back to 6.1.1
From The G Slate
I'd use Blandroid if my power button worked... D:
Tried installing blandroid but rom wouldn't take. It kept installing CM7. Tried rom manager and boot off sd card. Errored out even with signature verification on or off.
Looks like liquid ginger is for the evo.

Poll: Which Custom Rom is your favorite?

Personally I think Nottach's The DarkSide is superb.
Seen that we only have a few Roms to choose from, it's an easy poll to make (unfortunately..)
The Darkside, FTW.
Though I am convinced I have selective colorblindness whenever I open my app drawer.
Darkside, Alien and At(honeycomb)rix all are fast, have good battery life and cool looking but the way you can customize CM7 is uncanny to me.
Don't understand; there's 12 votes for different roms here but only 5 in the other poll thread.
I should have made only one..
I loved Darkside, but unfortunately I had some problems with webtop2sd and sudden memory wipes (not sure if the wipes where ROM related) but now I'm back to R9 which works great too.
I would love to try CM7 but the fact that it does not support webtop (I use my Atrix along with my Lapdock on a daily basis) it's a no go for me unfortunately.

Homebase, cm7 and alien are my faves. Never could get aura to work properly. or the honeycomb themed rom aswell

There are no "best roms" since is subjective. What can be the best for me, cannot be the best for you. Since I probably don't have the same needs as many of you.
That's why you see a lot of them out there..for this reason.
On that note thread closed.

[Q] New user wants to know what your favorite ROMS are (currently).

For the Atrix, which ROMS have you enjoyed using most?
I didn't see a thread (read:didn't ctrl-f "favorite ROM), and since there have been a good three or four updates to the big ROMS here, I wanted to know what everybody is trying out, what they feel the pros and cons are for each ROMS, what everybody's personal preference is, general battery life, etc.
I've tweaked around with CM7, DarkSide, and am currently running Neutrino ROM V2.0 EE. I'm addicted to trying out different ROMS on this phone.
Cheers!

Neutrino and wetdream. Tied for first place. Cm9 is cool, but not complete.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA App
wetdream so far has been the best battery life. Neutrino seems to be great performance however after spending several months OC'ed and going back to stock kernel, I can safely say most of the Android world doesn't currently benefit in any noticeable way from anything faster than 1.0GHz. Simply faster benchmarks is all.
Have tried neutrino and redpill.. I like neutrino.. although I don't know why

Hands down it has to be Z.U.E.S :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436843
If you try this you will see. I have tried them all, and this one is by far and away the best right now.
I also am interested in this question. If you can briefly say why you prefer a specific ROM that info would be greatly appreciated
I've used cm7-ics-mod2 for quite a while, but switched yesterday to neutrino 2.0, loving it so far. MIUI is pretty good but the sound bug keeps me from making it my everyday ROM.
CM9
I am using the CM9 ICS Rom. It is still in alpha, because it has some bugs and the camera is not functional. Since I rarely use my camera I have been using it for a week and love it.
Currently using Neutrino 1.4sEE and getting about 2days of battery life with around 3.5hrs of screen. Overall, it's pretty clean and really smooth especially with adwex
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
In my personal opinion, Neutrino 1.4 is by far the smoothest as well as the best ROM for battery life and performance that I have ever used.
Neutrino 2.0 is a bit buggy right now but once all the bugs are gone it will go face to face with CM9 (depending on your taste) . It is a very high calibre ROM and I hope that a CM9 version will also be available.

I've been around
I started with cm7 weekly #1-4 and #4 was great. It was my daily.
Then i tried Aura with is the stock rom with huge modifications (if you want webtop). This was okay for me, i'm just not a fan of it.
Right now, i've been using the alpha for MiUi. It is fantastic when it comes to battery life! Amazing! I'm actually shocked at how reliable this alpha rom is. I'm stuck here.
I hear nothing but great things for neutrino rom. I'll try it soon enough.
I had tried CM9 build #3 or something, and it was a bit buggy for me.
Used Aura for a month, then switched to cm7, went to neutrino(based on cm7), back to cm7. Now I am back to neutrino (about month). Neutrino is the best!!!!. No plans to leave it. Hope it will be cm9.

Neutrino is pretty bee's knees, but I have been having intermittent wifi issues (or maybe it is my router). Additionally I have had some strange GPS issues, and it has gotten to the point where I just fix permissions and reflash the GPS Mod he has posted there. I'm not sure if it is one of his tweaks specifically or just chance, but I tested the 4G with his ROM and my download speeds doubled. ICS was neat but since I use my phone for GPS I got tired of maps blanking out. And the lack of hardware acceleration is a total bummer at the moment. Darkside is super cool, but the theme bugs me a little. I'm not clear what the purpose is for Wet Dream so what are the major differences between it and Darkside?

there´s any safe rom that i can use with out brickin my phone? i want something like a room with a mirroring with out using webtop/lapdoc? just via HDMI?
Darkside has webdock, mirroring, and hdmi support. You won't brick your phone if you follow the forum post guides directions to the letter. Make sure you root your phone first, then unlock the bootloader, then flash a recovery on it. Most people seem to prefer clockwork recovery (assume this when you see CWM). Darkside likes RomRacer, which I understand is a special CWM variant with different features, most importantly EXT4 file system support. I think. I may have RomRacer mixed up with something else, I haven't flashed a recovery since Darkside.

From my experimentation, CM9, Stunner and Milka's other rom are all very good. I like Stunner strictly because there are a few more settings I like that come with Euphoria.
I do not like the speed of the scrolling in Trebuchet. Running Apex on CM9 makes it more tolerable for me. Once CM9 gets officially supported on the Note, it will be great to watch it evolve through the nightly updates. I enjoyed trying the various mile stones of CM7 on my EVO.
True dat... Stunner gives a bit more bang. The settings are crucial. Sound is superb on Stunner too. Don't know what he did with it...
I love the Stunner rom, and the developer listens to us
real stable, fast rom. Stunning Stunner
Well, finally done my assignment. And this is what I have found out:
Imilka's ICS CM9 (v02) scores significantly higher on both Antutu and Quadrant benchmarks
ICS Stunner on the other hand pre loaded gapps and tons of MOD/tweaks settings
The only question is that when switching to another costume ROM, say Imilka's to Stunner, do I have to flash ChairFire's ICS Repack or flash one over another?
Thanks
BTW, posting on ICS Stunner
It's in the ROMs installation instructions usually. You just have to full wipe and then install for another ICS ROM.
Tried both a number of times and it's a no brainer at this point:stunner....hands down.

Hi there....
I´m currently using ICS Stunner v.5 coming from the repack and then 4.5 and then 5.0 i think is far better and superior to Imilkas
everything works as promissed and does a pretty nifty job on all aspects and the customization of this rom is simply lovely,...... although i dont know if its because im a noob and i dont know how to enable them or make them work so this is where i need a little bit of help!!!!!!
1st - I dont know how to enable the MTP connection of the previous GB rom i need this since my security policies on my work computer are being override by this type of connection.
2nd - I dont know how to make the Wifi direct option work correctly it does appear to me on the menu but doesnt bring anything new or work or is being recognized by any other phone whith this capability.
3rd - The Spen is not working (not the pen but the built in features that it previously had.) i know that this is not supported by the rom but maybe the Gurus or android gods in this forum might be able to help me with any solution.
4th - this is the most important thing that i have noticed.... the USB transfer rate is awfully slow from what it used to be with or without the USB debbuging option the most that i can get with big medium or small file sizes is nothing more than 2.5 Mbps if lucky and previously i was achieving arround 8 - 10 Mbps
if you have a solution or Idea or want to help me please share your thoughts or send me a PM
thanks a lot!!!!!!
Had been using imilka CM9 v2 for a few days
Haven't got a chance to use Stunner yet, but I'm quite happy with what I get from CM9 v2. Fast, stable enough, reasonable battery (since I recharge everyday).
However, there are two problems I experienced:
1. The volume control is not good enough. When volume level 0 is completely silent/vibration only; volume level 1 is too loud for me. Unfortunately the alarm (also ringtone) are so loud it woke up my baby sleeping...
2. Had two "death while charging" instances so far. I was charging the phone but later realized it's dead sleeping. So far the SOD only happens in charging.
stunner is OK when it comes to customization but i found it lagging when opening apps. makes me want to get back to imilka's. if only i can find a circlemod battery, more power button options such reboot to recovery/download, screen capture, torch, etc. with these mods i'll be fine with Imilka's CM9.
anybody can help me with that?
I normally don't like custom roms. But stunner 5beta is the best I've used.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
CM9 has fully functional GPS, while it can generally only find 3 or 4 satellites in Stunner. ICS Reloaded is also really nice on CM9, lots of customization of the notification area if you like your Note in phone mode. But Stunner offers more customization in general and for tablet mode I prefer Stunner.
