Painted Sony Ericsson X10 - XPERIA X10 General

Hey guys, just decided to post some pictures of my SE X10 which I custom painted. Leave a comment and tell me what you think please!

It's nice looking in my opinion . But first picture - I think you should make some XPERIA words and leave SE logo - should look much better! (SE logo in blue maybe? ). Can you show front compared to rear?

i have done nothing to the front of it im afraid, so its just the normal one
Here are the pics though!

It looks good too, but I think white front will be muuuuch better for it .

How should I go about painting the front as it is all glass?

Looks artistic and good, but the lack of paint at the front ruins the mistic lol xD

How did you pqint?? And to paint front just put like masking tape on the screen

just kidding it's good

I took the phone apart and then sanded the parts, then I spray painted it white lightly 4 times. Then to get the blue you have to hold the can far away from the phone and make it look like its splattered. After it had all dried, I sprayed it with a clear coat the make it shiny and stop the paint from scratching! It probably sounds complicated because I am not very good at explaining it, but its really quite simple!

I agree it looks a bit bigger in white, but it is very sexy... nice work!
Looks Good, but its not for me
Great!!!.., even better than the iphone in white ^^
MY GOOSH THAT LOOKS SEXY!!! LOL my gf would flip if she heard me referring to a phone like that haha
Very tidy mate makes it stand out from the rest. What did you use to prime it and what type of paint?
Dude that looks pretty sick!! what materials did you use?
Wow. Either you're really good at taping off or you're very patient with taking apart the phone!
http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
That's a tear down video for the HD2. I just don't know if I have that kind of patience
Yeah it took very long to disassemble the phone because i was very scared to crack the screen.
Then i sanded the whole case, applied spray paint primer and then white paint. It took the whole day because i applied 4 layers of paint.
But you are right, its a bit to white, so i'll apply some black graphics so.
And thanks for your comments.
Lucky

Did you disassemble the whole back of the phone (removing the audio module and camera etc) or did you only paint the outside?
wow. it looks incredibly good!
Paint the design you want ASAP! the battery cover looks too white haha
some more eye candy
I saw before one brother here posted his HTC Leo, he applied a car vinyl sticker on his battery cover with carbon fiber design. It was quite impressive also.
..
some experiments with paint.net
i´m sure one of you can do that much better. because i´m an absolute n00b in graphics
ohh, carbon fiber is a very good idea, it could look pretty good with the whit case

i agree..i think i'm gonna scrap and paint my phone rite now!
Have you (or anyone else) tried using vinyl dye instead of spray paint?

HD2 custom paint job(unfinished)

so everyone says about the customizabilitly of this phone well, now heres a another one a iron man themed paint job, so what do you guys think?
I can't say it looks good because it doesn't. Paint job near the camera isn't complete; the speaker is covered in paint. You can try to clear the holes with a toothpick.
And the plastic looks like wood now
But! I like the idea.
yeah, as i said its not finished those are just the base coats, gonna be cracking out the metallic red for the spray gun in the next few days and that should clear up the woody plastic
Heh i thought you made it like wood on purpose that would be a nice touch. The wood+gold hd2 would look classy once finished.
I liked it a lot

only the gold backcover looks good!
the red paint, how long will it last on the rubber?
well i had to strip back the rubber, as the top layer affected the paint and it caused it bubble up like nothing else, but i didnt mind as i was painting over it

Will you be posting some pics if you're done now? I'd love to see it finished, I think the concept's pretty good (although I have to say that in those images it doesn't look particularly good, sorry) and it should be nice with the metallic paint.
i'll definitly be posting pics when its done, just tryna find the time atm to even go out and get the airbrush kit and what not is a chore

Solid as a rock.

I have had my z1 for a little over a week now and I would like to say that it is an amazing phone. I have been using it a lot and it has been really reliable,no reboots or anything. Coming from a galaxy nexus it has been great. I hope it continues to hold up for many years to come.

Some phones look yellowish when you look at a white section
I had that issue with my old nexus and another phone im not going to mention because it doesn't even deserve to have its name spoken
I thought it would be the same when i bought this phone but it turned out perfect(as far as i know)
There's no difference between this Z1 and my iphone 5 except for this being a little sharper

This is not. Why?
Do you know the little whole on the top of the back? Should be the mic but I was thinking it was the fingernail whole to open the cover back plate.
Then with my fingernail doing smooth and light to open it, I snap n' crack the cover plate, this kind of material is really, really fragile. Diff to other cellphones in a not-black-piano-reflective-coverback-stylish, and only in plastic/metal.
In Z1 coverback plate, theres a transparent acrylic pellicle applied on the base black acrylic/glass (dont get what material is under the pellicle, when i change the cover i will see) of the cover to give shine and nice finish style and it is dropping pieces from the inside :l
So you tried opening the back of a waterproof phone, that is glued together with a strong adhesive, by pulling on a hole that, according to the manual, is used for the second microphone and has a warning sign on the original protector film that says "do not insert screwdriver here".
And then it's the fault of the really fragile material when the backcover breaks...

Not going to create a new thread just to say this, but yesterday I dropped my precious z1 from about 5 feet off the ground. Landed right on the corner. I must be the luckiest person alive, because there isn't even a scuff mark on the aluminum frame! Scariest moment of my life!

Very Lucky

painted my moto g back.. £1.69 well spent!!

Sand off the oleophobic coating then apply a couple of coats of enamel model paints. Time will tell how durable it is once it hardens but it seems to bond very well with the plastic back cover! Photo attached

I already have an official flip case ordered. suppose to arrive today. I was just curious so figured I'd give it a go and see how it looked. it does look like a bowling ball haha..
the pic doesn't really do it justice tbh.. suffice to say, if someone wants to change their moto colour I think they would get good results with proper prep and a decent spray paint.. this was mostly an experiment..

Yeah, the idea definitely has potential, and kudos to you for having the guts to pull it off, but this isnt a diy job if you want perfecfion. You need proper equipent and training. Someone who's decent with an airbrush could do wonders with this thing. Luckily i know a guy.
Yeah. An evenly sanded, then evenly sprayed cover can look just as good, if not better, than the original I imagine. I do want to thank you for giving me that idea. I might actually try something like this in that beautiful metallic orange color I often see on newer Nissan vehicles.

yea its not the best colour and finish. some plastics are more or less porous. Some will not 'take' paint well at all, so however well it is done, it will chip and peel. I was interested in seeing how well a properly keyed surface would take the paint. The Moto G back case seems to take the paint very well, with no need for a primer.
Issues:
The colours I had available weren't great, hence the strange green bowling ball look
The paint does not dry very hard (I don't have a heat lamp to fast dry it hard)
The finish isn't very even (brush as no space here to spray)
However:
If I had:
A heat lamp:
Space to spray
Time
You could easily get an extremely good finish and it would be tough and durable too. None of these items are expensive and anyone could do it, but you do need a good workspace or you will get dust sticking while drying etc etc..
Easier to buy a new back, but if you want a custom colour this is the only option..
nice work mate
i think this would have looked better with flat/matte paint instead of gloss. He's got the right idea though, this is a cheap easy way to customize your back cover:good:
Ugly, very ugly.
Not sure why you did it. Maybe drunk, on new years eve.
Hey, ever tried it on your car? Or your TV?

Gawd it looks disgusting, but 10/10 for self customisation!!
Hope you haven't done the frame as well!!
it looks good, but I would like more than you were painting with airbrush not it? some graffiti or something.
I've once bought a airbrushed back door inspired by Keith Haring's timeless art for a Nokia 6150 and to be honest I'd like to have a custom back door like that for my Moto G. I enjoyed viewing your custom work and hope that others will follow.
nice job mate, I agree spray painting needs some time and is not as easy as it seems.
did it on my gnex 2-3 times

You could probably do both for £1.69.

I agree it doesn't look that great, but that might also be from the fuzzy picture of it. But, really, stop tearing they guy down. He did something to his case that he wanted to do. It's his to do with what he wants. He was proud enough of it to show us on the forum, so please don't tear him down.
I did like the comment about the bowling ball though. Thought that was funny.

Which color are you guys going for?

Hi guys, Initially i had actually opted for the z3 compact and told myself the full size z3 was just too big and although i do feel its a tad bit bigger then i would like. Iam now telling myself i would be ok with it as the screen allegedly is awesome and iam all for bigger screens ,its just a shame the whole device has to get bigger too lol
Anyways iam now contemplating on the copper or white version? Which are you guys going for? I like the copper, its different but it also looks kinda pink-ish so iam thinking maybe i should stick with the white!
Thoughts?
Black for me. I didnt get a chance to look at the new colors for Z3 in person

The black gives you that no-nonsense look..
I do agree that if the green or copper is darker, I would have opted for those as well
green and copper are awesome colors.
I like them both and thought about choosing one of them. Still I opted for black, because the risk of getting fed up with a color after a while is non existant for black
I like all the colors
silver green is really good but I can't find it and I get no chance to look at "live"
I bought mine today :0 I went for copper, They only had copper or black and the copper looked far nicer to me! It has a sort of pinkish bronze look to my eyes which prob doesnt sound very appealing but its nice! I wouldnt say beautiful but its different . For some reason i love it on the sides but am a bit meh about it on the back! Over all iam happy with the color although would have loved to of seen it in white!
I went ahead and got mine in White, had to carry the tradition over from my previous Xperia phones. Quite an upgrade from the SP though.

Good choice Iam already finding that the screen on this LOVES finger prints although i guess ye always notice these things when ye first get a phone! The display is crisp and finger prints arent noticeable once the display is on but because the glass covers the bezels ye can see them on the bezels which is sorta annoying but i can live with it ! I would imagine with the white version they would be less visible

100% ha Slightly disappointed by the display i have to say! It looks amazing but the min ye touch it all you can see is grubbyy finger prints! Its actually bugging me more then it should ha
I could only imagine all the fingerprints and scratches on the rear of the black. If T-Mobile doesn't offer white or copper I'm not buying.
I like both Copper and Silver Green but only Copper available for Z3 Dual so I ordered this color.
You can always get a transparent case for the phone so smudges won't be so prominent at the back.. but the screen, tough.. I hope I find a good screen protector that minimises smudges.

Can you guys post a picture of your copper, whites? Just curious how it looks in normal lighting conditions.
I'm also between copper and white. I think black looks nice too and gives that dark-knight feeling, but it's just too monotone for me.

Here's mine in white, used my old SP running on CM11 to take the pictures with flash... Sorry if it gives any of you the wrong perspective, but I think the flash helps bring the fingerprints out a little more visible:

You barely can see any fingerprints with the white variant of the device, but the screen is another story lol. Besides, we have a fully waterproof device, we can wash/clean it at anytime
I had the black one and it was great looking. Didn't hae too many problems with fingerprints....whenever I put it in my pocket and pulled it out to use again, fingerprints were pretty much gone. My wife liked it so much she stole it. Then I got the copper one. I really like the brushed copper on the sides but like someone else mentioned, the shiny copper back I could take or leave. Would've been absolutely sweet if the whole thing was a brushed copper aluminum. Either way, I think the black and copper are both equally appealing to me..
