I agree it looks a bit bigger in white, but it is very sexy... nice work!
Looks Good, but its not for me
Great!!!.., even better than the iphone in white ^^
MY GOOSH THAT LOOKS SEXY!!! LOL my gf would flip if she heard me referring to a phone like that haha
Very tidy mate makes it stand out from the rest. What did you use to prime it and what type of paint?
Dude that looks pretty sick!! what materials did you use?
Wow. Either you're really good at taping off or you're very patient with taking apart the phone!
http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
That's a tear down video for the HD2. I just don't know if I have that kind of patience
Yeah it took very long to disassemble the phone because i was very scared to crack the screen.
Then i sanded the whole case, applied spray paint primer and then white paint. It took the whole day because i applied 4 layers of paint.
But you are right, its a bit to white, so i'll apply some black graphics so.
And thanks for your comments.

Did you disassemble the whole back of the phone (removing the audio module and camera etc) or did you only paint the outside?
wow. it looks incredibly good!
Paint the design you want ASAP! the battery cover looks too white haha
some more eye candy
I saw before one brother here posted his HTC Leo, he applied a car vinyl sticker on his battery cover with carbon fiber design. It was quite impressive also.
..
some experiments with paint.net
i´m sure one of you can do that much better. because i´m an absolute n00b in graphics
ohh, carbon fiber is a very good idea, it could look pretty good with the whit case

Do you like it ??
How you have made it? i too want...
it is pleasant to me
it is awesome .. how did u do it?
well i had to dismantle the phone :S I passed a very thin sandpaper (600k) on the covers to remove the original ink !! then with a black mate spray i painted it ,let it dry very well and then applied varnish in spray also and voila !! black s100

Very nice.. I was planning to do a metallic whitish colour.
Also, I think the button needs to be painted too.. do you have plans for those.. and how are you planning to do it?
Thanks
no, i like the bottons has they are
Let the buttons as they are, the contrast is very nice. I wonder how long will the paint least until scratches will appear
i think that they will not appear has they didn't appear on my laptop paintjob

And what is the name of the paint spray and varnish you've used?
great job adolfotregosa! how did you remove the lcd from the front casing. i have already dismantled my unit following the pdf posted by someone, which was more intented to fix the speaker problem.
GreenGremlin. any model toy paint spray usually works. it is important to sand off the surface with a very fine sand paper like what adolfotregosa used to remove any clear coat lacquer, and then sand it off again with wet, fine sand paper.
Love the color and I live the job done. Hmmm... Can anyone PM me the link on removing the case, I will try this out and I plan to make a design, ofcourse a yellow looking Imate won't look that good...
The PDF is quite big in size to send via email. i couldn't upload it to the ftp also thus here's the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18384&highlight=disassemble
btw, the pdf was originally made by someone to try to fix the speaker problem. i didn't dare to remove the LCD since i didn't want to break anything, most especially the LCD.
if someone would be kind enough to post instructions on how to remove the LCD would greatly be appreciated by the group.
I saw some pretty cool jams on some site a while back that had been skinned, looks a pretty good alternative and you can change them all the time, don't know where to buy them from though!

what do u think???? :?
hey adolfotregosa....how did you get the perfect circles for the camera lens and the mirror? can you take them out or did you tape them?...of you taped them...how did you sand it?...i have everything i need to paint it WHITE (i wanted ferrari RED but they didnt have it in KRYLON brand paint)....so it'll look like ice cream sandwich but opposite....lol...i will post pictures when i am done.
can you take them out ! it's a single piece. white should be nice !! but i'm no mac fan :S lol

Think you're talking about a site called skinit.com They sell vinyl skins that peel off when you want to change the look. The skins cost around $10 USD, but I don't recall seeing anything on their site for a Jam.
For a while i was talking about painting my hero....well i got the balls and started. I am not finished as i have only done half of the front and the back still needs smoothed out. Everything works fine and suprisingly, ever since i disassembled and reassembled the touch screen is actually more responsive. I will upload pics and if someone wants to do it themselves i will also add the instructions and what tools you will need.
Nice, what'd you use?

Really? Very interesting.
Would you please upload higher resolutions photo's of the finished product. I'm curious how it looks like.
I will as soon as finished. The paint i used was krylon satin based white acrylic and then once im done im going to put a glossy finish on it. Everyday ill update the pics.
Not bad, not bad at all. Keep it up.
Nice! That is pretty awesome.
Well done. Now that I got a new phone I may take my old hero and experiment like this.

I started with Krylon Acrylic Satin White but i was not pleased with it so i took it completely off and then used Super Gloss Craft Paint from the Rustoleum American Acceents

Yeah but it did not come out glossy enough for my liking so im going to put a glossy clear coat on it
so everyone says about the customizabilitly of this phone well, now heres a another one a iron man themed paint job, so what do you guys think?
I can't say it looks good because it doesn't. Paint job near the camera isn't complete; the speaker is covered in paint. You can try to clear the holes with a toothpick.
And the plastic looks like wood now
But! I like the idea.
yeah, as i said its not finished those are just the base coats, gonna be cracking out the metallic red for the spray gun in the next few days and that should clear up the woody plastic
Heh i thought you made it like wood on purpose that would be a nice touch. The wood+gold hd2 would look classy once finished.
I liked it a lot
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using Tapatalk 2
only the gold backcover looks good!
the red paint, how long will it last on the rubber?
well i had to strip back the rubber, as the top layer affected the paint and it caused it bubble up like nothing else, but i didnt mind as i was painting over it

Will you be posting some pics if you're done now? I'd love to see it finished, I think the concept's pretty good (although I have to say that in those images it doesn't look particularly good, sorry) and it should be nice with the metallic paint.
i'll definitly be posting pics when its done, just tryna find the time atm to even go out and get the airbrush kit and what not is a chore
Hey guys, just decided to post some pictures of my SE X10 which I custom painted. Leave a comment and tell me what you think please!
It's nice looking in my opinion . But first picture - I think you should make some XPERIA words and leave SE logo - should look much better! (SE logo in blue maybe? ). Can you show front compared to rear?
i have done nothing to the front of it im afraid, so its just the normal one
Here are the pics though!
It looks good too, but I think white front will be muuuuch better for it .
How should I go about painting the front as it is all glass?
Looks artistic and good, but the lack of paint at the front ruins the mistic lol xD
How did you pqint?? And to paint front just put like masking tape on the screen

I took the phone apart and then sanded the parts, then I spray painted it white lightly 4 times. Then to get the blue you have to hold the can far away from the phone and make it look like its splattered. After it had all dried, I sprayed it with a clear coat the make it shiny and stop the paint from scratching! It probably sounds complicated because I am not very good at explaining it, but its really quite simple!

Sand off the oleophobic coating then apply a couple of coats of enamel model paints. Time will tell how durable it is once it hardens but it seems to bond very well with the plastic back cover! Photo attached

I can confirm that case is ugly. I'd much rather shell out $15 and buy a decent shell
B for effort, but reminds me of a bowling ball

I don't think it's ugly. It's a really nice idea. But not for the faint of heart.

I already have an official flip case ordered. suppose to arrive today. I was just curious so figured I'd give it a go and see how it looked. it does look like a bowling ball haha..
the pic doesn't really do it justice tbh.. suffice to say, if someone wants to change their moto colour I think they would get good results with proper prep and a decent spray paint.. this was mostly an experiment..

Yeah, the idea definitely has potential, and kudos to you for having the guts to pull it off, but this isnt a diy job if you want perfecfion. You need proper equipent and training. Someone who's decent with an airbrush could do wonders with this thing. Luckily i know a guy.
Yeah. An evenly sanded, then evenly sprayed cover can look just as good, if not better, than the original I imagine. I do want to thank you for giving me that idea. I might actually try something like this in that beautiful metallic orange color I often see on newer Nissan vehicles.

yea its not the best colour and finish. some plastics are more or less porous. Some will not 'take' paint well at all, so however well it is done, it will chip and peel. I was interested in seeing how well a properly keyed surface would take the paint. The Moto G back case seems to take the paint very well, with no need for a primer.
Issues:
The colours I had available weren't great, hence the strange green bowling ball look
The paint does not dry very hard (I don't have a heat lamp to fast dry it hard)
The finish isn't very even (brush as no space here to spray)
However:
If I had:
A heat lamp:
Space to spray
Time
You could easily get an extremely good finish and it would be tough and durable too. None of these items are expensive and anyone could do it, but you do need a good workspace or you will get dust sticking while drying etc etc..
Easier to buy a new back, but if you want a custom colour this is the only option..
nice work mate
i think this would have looked better with flat/matte paint instead of gloss. He's got the right idea though, this is a cheap easy way to customize your back cover:good:
Ugly, very ugly.
Not sure why you did it. Maybe drunk, on new years eve.
Hey, ever tried it on your car? Or your TV?

Gawd it looks disgusting, but 10/10 for self customisation!!
Hope you haven't done the frame as well!!
it looks good, but I would like more than you were painting with airbrush not it? some graffiti or something.
I've once bought a airbrushed back door inspired by Keith Haring's timeless art for a Nokia 6150 and to be honest I'd like to have a custom back door like that for my Moto G. I enjoyed viewing your custom work and hope that others will follow.
nice job mate, I agree spray painting needs some time and is not as easy as it seems.
did it on my gnex 2-3 times

I agree it doesn't look that great, but that might also be from the fuzzy picture of it. But, really, stop tearing they guy down. He did something to his case that he wanted to do. It's his to do with what he wants. He was proud enough of it to show us on the forum, so please don't tear him down.
I did like the comment about the bowling ball though. Thought that was funny.
