If you are updating over kies you can always take it back to Samsung to get it fixed

But that works only through recovery right. i dont have a recovery installed. could you suggest a method to flash a recovery ? (The device is available in download mode)

Did you try the Kies Emergency Firmware Recovery option ?
I was thinking. Mbr in windows means Master Boot Record. If you get an mbr error i think its related to your bootloader.
Try to reflash your bootloader via odin or cwm.

To get back to stock you'll need to run an official a501 EUU - theres a thread in the dev forum by blackthund3r with a list of official Acer Roms -
you need an "EUU" AND I hope you have saved your cpuid from using afterOTA - you can't do anything now without it

I have download a full rom A501 first and install thats work great after booting up it wont start and give the error.
Yes i have olso save my Acer id tekst with spuid serial number like that.

Well, that is good news, you're halfway there
This tutorial will give you some background on rooting and installing CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35500631#post35500631
But now you have the v8 and access to fastboot the first thing you should do is to hook your usb cable to your pc and run a command prompt from the fastboot folder (if you need help with doing that have a look in the cpuid guide linked in my sig). You want to wipe /data and /cache and then immediately flash an ICS custom rom...civato has a thread with official acer stock roms that will run on the v8 or you can choose a full custom one.
You should already have a custom recovery on your tab, if not, use fastboot to flash one after you did your wipes...then boot to it and flash your rom not an update.zip
i have hook the usb cable but i cant write somthing on the cmd
its noet working, i want to install CWM this was verry easy to use.
I dont now why its verry difficult to root and install a custom firmware on a Acer Iconia A500.
I have olso a Samsung galaxy tab, this was veryy easy to use after 3 minutes it was rooted and installed the CWM.

@ cebbes
Go to cpuid guide in my sig
You'll need the drivers installed correctly, there's a section showing how to do that....you'll need to flash the v8 bootloader to get cwm...its all in the guide

First to thanks to dibb_nz, civato, Moscow Desire & Heisenberg.
I have installed Skrilax CZ bootloader V8 on my TAB ( after six month trying )
Then Installed: CWM recovery v5.5 thor2002ro rev.1.7.3
showing: kernel 3.1.10-digetx-thor-4.4micro
Bootloader: 0.03.14-MUL
Active boot partition 1st boot partition set as default.
Not running HC bootloader, itsmagic not needed.
As per your instruction on (Skrilax CZ bootloader V8) wipes all the /data and /cache using fastboot method then reboot and after going to CWM recovery flashed Civato official acer Rom Acer_AV041_A500_1.041.00_WW_CUS1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633907.
But again my Tab is stuck on Skrilax CZ bootloader V8 bootmenu.
now help me what to do.
Hello,
I read a lot of threads but I'm really tuck...
When I power on my Acer Iconia A500, I have this error message : "Secure boot: image LNX checksum fail!"
According to my research, the issue is the bootloader. So I want to update (change) this.
When I power on my tablet in recovery mod I don't have this error. My recovery it's TWRP v2.4.4.0 (Team Win Recovery Project).
I have not my CPUID, so I downloaded Afterota and install the official driver Acer.
But when I plug my tablet, second step "Usb Connection" I have this issue : ERROR - connect usb cable and enable usb debugging"
But I can't enable usb debugging because my ROM is fail...
I hope somebody can help me because I have no idea
Try flash thor cwm 1.7.3 via cwm, then get the cwm recovery in, flash flashable zip bootloader v8,hope this help

Depends what rom you were running when all this started....
enter recovery mode advanced menu and choose fix checksums!

If you do have recovery mode then a) go in and format data and cache,
b) flash custom ics/jb rom....
c) It will show you your cpuid....
I have not my CPUID, so I downloaded Afterota and install the official driver Acer.
But when I plug my tablet, second step "Usb Connection" I have this issue : ERROR - connect usb cable and enable usb debugging"

You can only use afterota IF your rom was a stock ics updated via OTA...was yours????

And when @sc2k say : "Send me a PM with your UID and a link to "mmcblk0_start" no answer... And I don't now that he wants to do with this.
I'm really lost... Thank
Oh right....did u get yr cpuid???

I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?
Can it be that the my exchange device encryption policy which has encrypted the Lee one pro prevents me to enter fastboot? When I activate the penguin mode it reboots 3 sec. later into normal mode...
Gesendet von meinem Le 1 Pro mit Tapatalk
I was able to flash recovery.img from TWRP by using my UBUNTU system. With Windows my LeTV went always out of the fastboot mode.
Further more I had todo this under Linux to talk in fastboot mode with the device:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/705537/no-permissions-fastboot-fastboot-and-adb-not-working
Can you discribe a bit more? I gor same issue (phone restart after enter fastboot). Can i use ubuntu live from usb?
Ok i find a way to fix it, you have to disable driver signature on startup (windows / settings / update and securyy / recovery / adv startup.
