Hi! My friend's tab is experiencing drastic battery drain overnight. from 60% - 20%. wifi was off, no messenger running. only email push notifications. all running apps were closed.
If you just upgraded to ics, try a hard reset.

Its still using Honeycomb. We have not received the ICS update. are there any apps that can monitor what apps or processes is sucking up the juice? Preferably if it doesn't require root.
Have you tried checking battery usage? There you may see what's using your battery. Otherwise, there might be a hardware problem.

ICS definitely improved my battery life..
I was having terrible standby battery life on HC until I turned on airplane mode. Even without a sim card the radio was killing the battery.
If you don't have a sim card in then this is what causes battery drain. This problem is on all Samsung tablets that i have.

I agree. Same with me as well. Better if you bring it to Samsung service center. :-D

for me 12 hours standby 1% drain
if you're using HC, turn off "background data" under settings

Hey guys,
Had my phone fully charged last night, went to bed, and 7 hours later the battery was at 19%. Quick check on what's using the battery revealed Cell Standby was the major power factor, using 60-some% of the battery.
Any one else experiencing this issue? The X10 is rooted, Android 2.3.3 installed.

Too much updating/synching going on maybe
Try increasing the time between sync on you running apps( weather, facebook, email, etc)

How is your phone reception/signal?
Cell standby usage is high for me as well, but that is due to the poor signal at my house.
The poor signal will drain your battery
Signal is good.
The syncing hasn't changed. mostly battery lasts for quite a while. I think it may be caused by the Facebook app.

I got school at around 6 am. By the time I eat lunch it's already at 57%. By the time I get home around 5 and it's already at 17%.
All I do is listen to music (doubletwist/playerpro) and play Cut the Rope, WTF!?
Cell standy by is 46% in batter usage followed by wifi with 11%
any help guys?
What I tend to do is have brightness down to about half. Have you also tried fully charging the phone, taking the battery out and charging back to full? I sometimes find it drops down but regenerates itself.

Brightness is below half,I never go over. WiFi is on but not all the time.
Stock rom 2.3.4 rooted
Do you have data off?
How's your phone signal most of the time? It has been proven that low/bad signal drains battery quicker than good signal.
Sometimes certain buildings/rooms have pretty bad reception making it a huge drain for your phone.

This is a useful piece of information, however is not really practical. Ideally we don't want to be turning off our phones on every charge :/
I myself own 3 batteries, and alternate them (I have a wall charger for the batteries)
what ver are you using if 2.3.4 the battery issue is fix.
I get 3 /4 bars, at school right new and yea some times I get nothing, especial ly during the subway ruse which is an hour

Once I updated my phone to 2.3.3 I noticed that the battery life was sub-par, only lasting 3/5s of the day on a full charge.
I proceeded to root my phone (as I don't have the money to unlock my Big Red Bootloader); after installing SetCPU I took down the clocking meter 1 notch (768MHz) and the phone is stable with not difference in performance (so far). Doing this and removing some unneeded bloatware has increased my battery life 2.5x and I can go almost 3 days on a single charge.

xiEvo is correct and I've read a lot of good stuff regarding battery life with 2.3.4. I can only begin to imagine what kind of battery life I'll have once I get that update.
get juice defender off the market ultimate version is best. this will lookafter everything for you.. juice defender is a must have app for all android devices

I'm 2.3.4.
Honestly I had the best battery life with 2.3.2, IDK why.
greetings.
wondering if you guys can share your battery consumption after the ICS 4.0.4......
based on what i saw so far, battery was lasting much longer on HC on galaxy tab.
Thanks

Yes, my battery now drains even after a night in airplane mode. Hope this will get fixed soon...
No change. Exactly the same 2-3% per day when in standby with WIFI always on.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda app-developers app
After first install battery drained fast. Charged overnight and wiped battery stats while on AC. Now drains 2-3% in 10 hours standby with WiFi on.
Exactly the same for me too, I suppose it was going faster initially, as it's like having a new toy again and I didn't want to put it down. But now, it's as it was on Honeycomb.

For exemple in cwm: reboot to recovery --> Advanced --> wipe battery. Or use an app like BatteryCalibration.

you can do it much easier... just unplug charger and android OS will reset this file for you.
Deleting this file will do nothing it terms prolonging battery life...

Where does it say to let your tab discharge completely?
My battery after the update runs out faster then on honeycomb. I fully discharged and charged the battery again but it didn't seem to work.

Hi guys, I found out what could be the problem. I installed CPU Spy, charged full the tab and let it over the night (airplane on, wifi off). battery dropper down 11% for 10 hours. BUT, when I looked in battery setting, it showed me that gallery was using 33% of the battery !!!
So gallery is not the problem, it's the new google+ app which is set up to instant upload photos, so I think gallery is trying to upload photos or sync but it could not. I turn the instant upload off, so now I will see if this is the problem, otherwise I will uninstall the stupid google+ app.
So give it a try if you want...

Hi guys,
Is anyone else get terrible battery life with 3g and data on even on standby? I believe the phone function drains the battery and it lasts only 2 days or so on standby. I constantly have the tab on flight mode with wifi enabled and battery is much improved to about 1 week standby. Anyone else? I am on stock 4.0.4.
Thanks
Wtf r this guy even serious? I wish i had 1 day standby, what a joke

Hi Iong. We are talking about a tablet here, not a phone. Tablets should have 1 week standby at least. The battery drain with 3g and phone on is unacceptable. I think the reason is the connection to phone signal which is constant.
Mate 1 day pr 2 day standby is a lot, given the fact you install many program and it constantly connect to tinternet to check for updates notifs etx. You dont have 1 week standby whatsover, forget it. Big tablet big baterry big screen. Ot all goes scaling together
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda app-developers app
So 'l2_hsic' and 'batt_work wake lock' are the 2 processes keeping my table awake for 5 hours in total since yesterday. Any idea of what these do?
Thanks

most likely is that one or more of your apps is causing the problem. try a reset and see if the problem goes away. if it does, install apps one by and and check which one is the problem
Use juice defender ultimate in tablet mode. I can go several days idle time and lose almost no battery.

Did you mean when the screen is off? Because obviously it status awake while the screen is on. But there may be an app keeping it awake. Make sure all your apps are trusted

I'd go for a wakelock detecting app like "better battery stats" or "wakelock detector" to see which app could be the culprit. "Greenify" could then be used to block that app from keeping your tablet awake.
I personally do have no issues with standby whatsoever. I'd say I lose about 3-4% of battery during the day on 4.4. (WLAN and sync on all day, but I'm taking it to work where I have no WLAN I could use). I guess I had the same mimimum drain on 4.3. So standby couldn't be better on N10 in my opinion.
I only had one issue so far, where at about 25% of battery left it suddenly began to drain like 10-15% an hour, thus leading to my N10 shutting off after about 2 hours. No idea what caused that drain in standby.
I second that, get better battery stats or something similar to see what's keeping it awake.

mhm ... will not install 4.4 if the battery life is that terrible. Did you guys control the typical Google apps, which usually like to eat a lot of battery?
I have this since 4.4.2 on my Nexus 10 and 7v2. Not on the 5. My N10 uses almost every juice for Android OS. Before it used 5% for 1-2 days for standby. Now 3 hours. See screenshot. Is this normal?
And it wasn't awake. See other screenshot.
