If you want to return to the stock rom 2.3.3 uses PcCompanion
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
press support zone--->update phone-->repair and follow the guide
if you want to go back to a 2.3.x you just flash the rom with respective FlashTool
Use the repair option in PC companion to go back to stock unrooted 2.3.3
computer cannot recognize my xperia x10
hi,
PCCompanion can detect my phone, but it said i have to mount my phone. i stuck in this step. dont know how to mount phone in ICS. it does not have anything scroll down and tap usb connect... like in android 2.3.3. Did you actually try? Thanks.

Hi everyone, after some attempts to flashing 2.1 on my x8 (it's a prototype) i can't boot again, i get the sony ericsson logo that loops forever..
I've tried to repair it using seus, but it says that there are no updates for my phone and i don't get any repair options..
So i'm trying with bin4ry's flash tool, but with no luck, i've almost put every rom found here on xda but after the flashing process ends with no errors, i reboot the phone and nothing happens. the only thing i can access is xrecovery, but I have no backup to recovery from.
can someone help me??
Cheers
Luca
It also happen to me. Did you tried with pc companion? Go to software update, and click repair. This will install a clean android 2.1

Hello, Sony Ericsson have now posted the official instructions for unlocking the bootloader here http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
So knock yourself out and see if you can unlock yours.
So only root is missing
Is 4 days long enough to wait before voiding my warranty

Yeah! I am done. But how do I know if I am really unlocked????
well unless we have recovery for our device.. not at all
We need that someone message Paul O Brien or Amon Ra for rooting and recovery.
let's hope root will come out soon
go go xda
A quick reminder ... any bootloader unlock will erase all data on your phone.
Can the bootloader be locked again after unlocking?

Also im new to SE and have no idea how to :S
It will give you unbranded FW, which should let the phone be bootloader unlockable.
For some reason my pc isn't asking to install the drivers when I plug the phone in.. I'm doing everything the guide says.. Anyone else come across this and figured it out? Phone is unbranded and sim unlocked.. And I'm running w7..

I'm having no luck with getting the drivers installed but mine IS seeing the phone and trying. Something to do with being 64bit i should think. If I remember rightly, Win7 64bit had problems when rooting the x10.
Any1 have a solution?

Mine was from vodafone and wasnt sim locked either. Ok you have two choices for root. You can either unlock your bootloader (there are many downsides and advantages to this so you should research it) or downgrade to 2.3.2, root using gingerbreak then OTA update to latest version. That way you will not loose root while updating.

What OTA Update Means? And please can you give some links on how to downgrade and root it please?
And btw if i use the method of downgrading my phone first will i be able to flash custom ROMs?

Im on my phone so i can't really link. Look in the android development section, there is a thread all about rooting 2.3.3 with a locked bootloader. OTA means over the air. Basically thats when you download and install an update using just your phone.

No you need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom roms. But please read the pros and cons of unlocking your bootloader first. And understand what you can and can't do
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Ok mate just wanna say thanks a lot for your help and i really appreciate it. You really helped me out here. also just one more thing i need to know. By the looks of it the only cons in unlocking your bootloader seems to be that you will lose warranty and that your phone or your radio may get bricked which apparently can be fixed with restoring a backed up data using a program named omnius for se which i'm actually working on... however my only other concern is if there are any other disadvantages regarding the unblocking the bootloader that you happned to know of and be kind to share it with me Also just wanna say that i can see many tutorials as you said in the development section and i quite frankly i don't know which one applies to me since i realized one of the tutorials are for models with build number .184 where as mine is 3.0.1.a.0.145 AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHICH TUTORIAL TO FOLLOW. So i would be greatfull if you could lend me link to a right tutorial whenever you get free time on the PC
If all you want is root you can do that with a locked bootloader. You will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 (.184) then root then ota to get the latest firmware rooted. Follow the guide here. Or see this post i made here for easier instuctions on downgrading and rooting.
If you want to flash custom roms then you do need an unlocked bootloader like AndroHero has said. You dont need a specific guide to unlock your bootloader. Just go too the SE bootloader unlocking site (it gives you all the instructions you need) http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/. Then just flash doomlords kernel (which autoroots) or anything really from the development section (since i think anything can be rooted with one click with an unlocked bootloader) you will then have root and the ability to flash cutom roms.
Oh btw build number .184 = 2.3.2, build number 3.0.1.a.0.145 = 2.3.3 and build number 4.0.a = 2.3.3 (xloud version, the latest update)
+
If you unlock your bootloader OTA, Pc Companion + SEUS are off limits use any of them after unlocking your bootloader and you will brick your phone. Go to the dev section for the latest updates.

How to fix a Hardbricked X8
I have worked out how to fix a hardbricked X8 WITHOUT using PC Companion or Flashtool. You can even use it if xRecovery doesn't work!
First, Download the executable here
Install on a Windows PC
Once installed, Update Service should start automatically. If not, find it in the Start menu.
Find the X8 from the list
It will ask you to connect your phone by taking out the battery, waiting 5 seconds before putting the battery back in again, then pressing and holding the Back button while inserting the MicroUSB cable into the X8
Release the back button when told to do so
Update Service will download the latest ROM, then flash it to your phone
Unplug your phone, then turn it on and it is guaranteed to work if you follow the instructions step by step
I hope this helped, and if it worked for you, hit the Thanks button!
SEUS isn't supported by SE anymore, but it works better than PCCompanion for fixing our phone
Everybody knows this and why do you say you don't need SEUS if you are actually explaining how to use it?

Sorry for my late reply as I have been finishing off my Android app and helping with CyanogenMod on the.Ace. I mainly posted this, not as a guide, but a way to download the latest version of SEUS, as it is hard to get hold of. I got this off a Sony Ericsson employee, and thought others may find it useful.

Hi, I've seen in your signature that you achieved a Quadrant Score of over 1700: what smartphone have you achieved this score on? If it's an XPeria X8 what have you done on it to achieve such a high score? I've never been able to get past about 1025-1030 (my X8 is both rooted, overclocked @ 729.6Mhz and JIT enabled, plus nAa kernel and bootloader unlocked). With that I've too never been able to get a Quadrant score above 1025. So would be curious to know what you have managed to do on this smartphone to get such a high score.

hw abou PCC? and what is the difference?
pcc and seus are different because pcc is a programm used for other stuff as well. pcc dosnt reapir as GOOD* as seus. seus is kinda outdated** but pcc is useless for helping you when youv bricked your x8 (hard brick)
seus is very good cuz you dont even need your phone turned on! you just need it in flash mode
*it can repair your x8 but it is more or less useless to do. its harder, but is a easyer software to get hold of
**yes, you heard me, outdated. its been around for a long time i suppose, so SE thoughtlessly created pcc, to replace our beloved seus. you can find an seus download on google. i used to have it but i installed linux mint 12 os on my netbook (small laptop, DUH) and it wiped all of my data (which i am glad of cuz i had to much crap on windows 7 (starter) ) hope this helped
