Hello, Sony Ericsson have now posted the official instructions for unlocking the bootloader here http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
So knock yourself out and see if you can unlock yours.
So only root is missing
Is 4 days long enough to wait before voiding my warranty

Yeah! I am done. But how do I know if I am really unlocked????
well unless we have recovery for our device.. not at all
We need that someone message Paul O Brien or Amon Ra for rooting and recovery.
let's hope root will come out soon
go go xda

Will that unlock the bootloader ?
Also im new to SE and have no idea how to :S
It will give you unbranded FW, which should let the phone be bootloader unlockable.
For some reason my pc isn't asking to install the drivers when I plug the phone in.. I'm doing everything the guide says.. Anyone else come across this and figured it out? Phone is unbranded and sim unlocked.. And I'm running w7..

Check in device manager if fastboot mode is detected.

I'm having no luck with getting the drivers installed but mine IS seeing the phone and trying. Something to do with being 64bit i should think. If I remember rightly, Win7 64bit had problems when rooting the x10.
Any1 have a solution?

Hi everyone, after some attempts to flashing 2.1 on my x8 (it's a prototype) i can't boot again, i get the sony ericsson logo that loops forever..
I've tried to repair it using seus, but it says that there are no updates for my phone and i don't get any repair options..
So i'm trying with bin4ry's flash tool, but with no luck, i've almost put every rom found here on xda but after the flashing process ends with no errors, i reboot the phone and nothing happens. the only thing i can access is xrecovery, but I have no backup to recovery from.
can someone help me??
Cheers
Luca
It also happen to me. Did you tried with pc companion? Go to software update, and click repair. This will install a clean android 2.1

Mine was from vodafone and wasnt sim locked either. Ok you have two choices for root. You can either unlock your bootloader (there are many downsides and advantages to this so you should research it) or downgrade to 2.3.2, root using gingerbreak then OTA update to latest version. That way you will not loose root while updating.

What OTA Update Means? And please can you give some links on how to downgrade and root it please?
And btw if i use the method of downgrading my phone first will i be able to flash custom ROMs?

Im on my phone so i can't really link. Look in the android development section, there is a thread all about rooting 2.3.3 with a locked bootloader. OTA means over the air. Basically thats when you download and install an update using just your phone.

No you need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom roms. But please read the pros and cons of unlocking your bootloader first. And understand what you can and can't do

Ok mate just wanna say thanks a lot for your help and i really appreciate it. You really helped me out here. also just one more thing i need to know. By the looks of it the only cons in unlocking your bootloader seems to be that you will lose warranty and that your phone or your radio may get bricked which apparently can be fixed with restoring a backed up data using a program named omnius for se which i'm actually working on... however my only other concern is if there are any other disadvantages regarding the unblocking the bootloader that you happned to know of and be kind to share it with me Also just wanna say that i can see many tutorials as you said in the development section and i quite frankly i don't know which one applies to me since i realized one of the tutorials are for models with build number .184 where as mine is 3.0.1.a.0.145 AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHICH TUTORIAL TO FOLLOW. So i would be greatfull if you could lend me link to a right tutorial whenever you get free time on the PC
If all you want is root you can do that with a locked bootloader. You will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 (.184) then root then ota to get the latest firmware rooted. Follow the guide here. Or see this post i made here for easier instuctions on downgrading and rooting.
If you want to flash custom roms then you do need an unlocked bootloader like AndroHero has said. You dont need a specific guide to unlock your bootloader. Just go too the SE bootloader unlocking site (it gives you all the instructions you need) http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/. Then just flash doomlords kernel (which autoroots) or anything really from the development section (since i think anything can be rooted with one click with an unlocked bootloader) you will then have root and the ability to flash cutom roms.
Oh btw build number .184 = 2.3.2, build number 3.0.1.a.0.145 = 2.3.3 and build number 4.0.a = 2.3.3 (xloud version, the latest update)
+
If you unlock your bootloader OTA, Pc Companion + SEUS are off limits use any of them after unlocking your bootloader and you will brick your phone. Go to the dev section for the latest updates.

Im a little confused right now. I have unlocked my phone with omnius using 1 android unlock license and it accept any simcard, but does that mean I also unlocked my bootloader? Or do I have to follow the steps how to unlock bootloader?
Can I still update via pc companion?

Yes to both, you now have your bootloader unlocked and also you can use SEUS to update but really who want to use that crap from SE if we have flashtool?

You now have a sim-free phone that will accept any SIM card. I don't think you have an unlocked bootloader (I could be wrong?). To do that, you need to follow the instructions here.

Hello pals
Well I have a kind of good news
All of you know about the FOTA update problems when your bootloader is unlocked. Well forget about it.
Simple as that, FOTA brick is past.
Now is possible to unlock bootloader and even repair the already unlocked ones to be able to update via FOTA.
So if you have this problem and you want to fix it you know what to do. (Send me a PM)
This process have no cost but if you want to buy me some Dr. Pepper you can donate
DONATE
You will need to download this: Download Me
And also a paperclip or wire will be needed.
Video Proof
Unlock by SETool, right?
Yup new update released

Hello
Just to see if I got it right.
I unlock my mk16i using the code provided by Sony. Now i can't update using PC companion or SEUS, because they both say, I've got modified software installed.
Will this fix this isue and allow me to install the upgrades directly from Sony?

I can't update my Neo V MT11i......it says "Your phone contains modified software" while i update through Update Service .....what to do any suggetion?
hi guys is there a way to find out what the original network lock for the phone is...for example if it is originally on o2 before it was unlock. and how can i tell if it was unlocked via setool? when i bought the phone it was already unlocked.
So practically now if I flash for example .42 firmware with my bootloader unlocked and search for updates and get notified about .62 firmware, OTA Update it, when the new firmware is installed, my phone won't brick anymore? Or I have to patch it or fix it with this tool? I mean did Sony fixed their firmwares to work on unlocked bootloaders too?
great promises and dead links.
I hope the guy made trillons in donations.
would have been useful to tell others a lil bit how this worked and whether other models can do similar things.
but no, the secret went down togther with the op's website

I wanna share my experience with my locked bootloader.
I tried once to unlock and install a "just 4 unlocked" rom (2 roms actually) but the radio system didn't work (no phone, no wifi, no gps).
I got back by flashtools, i installed a rom 4 locked rom and i tried once more to unlock the BL. I installed CM10.1 and now everything is working perfect!!!
I got just a question 4 you: why does some xperia z has the BL locked while others unlocked?

All Xperia Zs come locked from the factory. Most can be unlocked to flash custom roms. Some are permanently locked because their carriers are iffy (to put it nicely), but those are the minority.
Keep Questions in the Q/A section, not in General.
And No SONY device comes with locked Bootloader always. All are locked by default from the factory. Among which some can be unlocked and some can not because the Carrier.

Ok, but my gadget showed "no in Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status > Bootloader unlock allowed (and in the post about unlock BL they says that if it's "no" the device cannot be unlocked).
Thank you
PS: How can i move the 3d to Q/A ?
That is what I said.
All the Devices are locked bootloader by default.
Bootloader unlock allowed= Yes -- This means you can unlock the bootloader by following regular method.
Bootloader unlock allowed= NO -- This means you can not unlock the bootloader. Because of the Carrier issue i believe.

did you root it and put a different ROM on there? the status might change say no but you can still unlock it. Simply put if first time you boot up your phone and it say Unlock bootloader = NO, then dont try to unlock it. When you root and flash a different rom that status might change to yes but in reality it still a NO

Eventually a right answer.
I was told the same. But i love to risk "playing" with my gadgets. So when i bought the xperia z through a carrier I saw the first time i boot up that the phone Unlock bootloader = NO (about 5 minutes after i bought it from the shop, so it was "original as the carrier made it).
I didn't care it and i tried to unlock. I installed a unlocked bootloader and rom and i had all that problems with the radio stuff . But the second time, after i recovered it by flashtool and a sw from sony (i don't remember the name) I was allowed to unlock it and install unlocked stuff. Now I am with Paranoid and I am so happy

same here... unlock it. install all the unlocked stuff. Radio might don't work. . Get ur phone back by flashtool and sony sw (i don't rememmber the name). The sony software will say u after a while u r not able to recover the phone cuz you are using some some software that is not sony. Don't worry and install another time a rom unbranded by flashtool.
now unlock the phone again and install everything u might like
There is only a problem with the twrp recovery, so use only the other one

I think if you want others to try what you've done, (and it is interesting if we can unlock bootloaders this way)
then you may want to highlight which steps you did in more detail.
Which roms did you try to flash that resorted in no radio functions?
which rom did you try to flash with flashtool? which version of flashtool as well?
Did you do anything else?
I somehow doubt engineers would make an oversight as big as this one.
But fingers crossed nevertheless.
+1 for a detailed description of the steps you took. This could be huge!
