Im a little confused right now. I have unlocked my phone with omnius using 1 android unlock license and it accept any simcard, but does that mean I also unlocked my bootloader? Or do I have to follow the steps how to unlock bootloader?
Can I still update via pc companion?

Yes to both, you now have your bootloader unlocked and also you can use SEUS to update but really who want to use that crap from SE if we have flashtool?

You now have a sim-free phone that will accept any SIM card. I don't think you have an unlocked bootloader (I could be wrong?). To do that, you need to follow the instructions here.

Yeah! I am done. But how do I know if I am really unlocked????
well unless we have recovery for our device.. not at all
We need that someone message Paul O Brien or Amon Ra for rooting and recovery.
let's hope root will come out soon

Also im new to SE and have no idea how to :S
It will give you unbranded FW, which should let the phone be bootloader unlockable.
For some reason my pc isn't asking to install the drivers when I plug the phone in.. I'm doing everything the guide says.. Anyone else come across this and figured it out? Phone is unbranded and sim unlocked.. And I'm running w7..

I'm having no luck with getting the drivers installed but mine IS seeing the phone and trying. Something to do with being 64bit i should think. If I remember rightly, Win7 64bit had problems when rooting the x10.
Any1 have a solution?

Hi people I didn't know whether to post this in the android development forum so I posted it her.
Soooooooo.......... For people that are confused when they dial in *#*#7378423#*#* and they find out that it says boot loader unlock allowed:no.
I am just going to clarify a few things. Don't worry its not the end of the world you can still unlock your bootloader. thats the good news. The bad news is that it will require you to pay some money. You are probably having this problem because:
a) Your phone is sim locked
b) You are using the R800at or R800X if so then get out of this forum!!!!!!!!
So to solve this problem you will have to sim unlock your xperia play although, you MUST use a software that uses the phone's testpoint to sim unlock the phone e.g. Omnius any other unlocking method used that does not use the phone's testpoint will NOT work.
Once you have done that taaa daaaa!!!! now when you go into the service menu it should say bootloader unlock allowed.
Although your not done yet, now you will have to unlock your bootloader this is FREE to do in fact sony ericcson offers the instructions how to do it themselves. Here is the link to the instructions:
unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
Since i'm a new member xda not letting me put in any hyperlinked links.
Make sure you know the risks of unlocking it!!!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

No i'm just saying this because the requirements to unlock the bootloader on the se website says make sure it says boot loader unlock allowed: yes
I haven't tried using fastboot or anything this was just for people that were stuck here in unlocking their boot loader i was just sharing that it changes to yes when you take off the sim lock and i know it is possible to unlcok the bootloader of it even though it says its not the steps i have given does unlock the bootloader as i myself have tested it on my friend's o2 locked phone.
On my phone it says
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlocked allowed: Yes
so do i have to pay money to unlock it or what?
I'd like to try and root it.
My phone was originally locked to O2, I got it sim unlocked from them and i still have bootloader unlock allowed:no ...
You have to do TEST POINT METHOD!
This Unlockes your Sim lock i think as well as fastboot which you need to unlock,
sim locked phones are branded and have Blocked Fastboot with a Unknown Patch the Bypass is test point method however you Must Not ever Update VIA PC companion or OTA Doing so = a brick.
If you want to pay up the money go to Aljendrissimo he has proven 12,000+ people with SE phones Bootloader Unlocked with OTA fix ans Pc companion which means you can have the ICS update but its got the sony suite

If it says bootloader unlock allowed:yes then you don't need to pay to unlock your bootloader just go to the link I put up and follow the instructions.
Also,on the other comments yes this does indeed has to be done through test point method which is very easy many sites do this, I used cellunlocker.net's se unlocking software to unlock mine. I also checked yes by doing the testpoint method it also, gives you the option to unlock the bootloader I do recommend omnius because you can by a android unlock liscense for just 10 pounds but to clarify you DO need your sim unlock to be done through test point so you can be able to unlock the bootloader

What would be nice to know is how to unlock fastboot if your already sim unlocked.
I can understand paying for simunlock but paying for a fastboot unlock while i am already sim unlock would be double dipping.

It has been broken down for you on the first page, if you do use the test point method then you can't do OTA updates which means, you can't officially update your play when offical updates come out but it's not all bad as you will be able to flash the offical update with a FTF with the flash tool. It is recommended to use the test point method.

No I don't think that is true because you cannot do OTA updates only if you have a locked boot loader i'm not sure where you got your info from mate but i'm pretty sure all the test point method does is sim unlock your phone and does something to make the bootloader unlock possible and that is what I m trying to find out- what it does to make the bootloader show yes .
I have confirmed with various trusted sources if you are still able to update even if you are sim unlocked with test point and they are saying yeah only if you haven't unlocked the bootloader.

So ... there is any results?
So, no chance to unlock bootloader without testpoint, right?
My R800a is not sim lock, I can use it with any GSM sim but the status still says bootloader unlock allowed:no. How can I unlock bootloader ?
I wanna share my experience with my locked bootloader.
I tried once to unlock and install a "just 4 unlocked" rom (2 roms actually) but the radio system didn't work (no phone, no wifi, no gps).
I got back by flashtools, i installed a rom 4 locked rom and i tried once more to unlock the BL. I installed CM10.1 and now everything is working perfect!!!
I got just a question 4 you: why does some xperia z has the BL locked while others unlocked?

All Xperia Zs come locked from the factory. Most can be unlocked to flash custom roms. Some are permanently locked because their carriers are iffy (to put it nicely), but those are the minority.
Keep Questions in the Q/A section, not in General.
And No SONY device comes with locked Bootloader always. All are locked by default from the factory. Among which some can be unlocked and some can not because the Carrier.

Ok, but my gadget showed "no in Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status > Bootloader unlock allowed (and in the post about unlock BL they says that if it's "no" the device cannot be unlocked).
Thank you
PS: How can i move the 3d to Q/A ?
That is what I said.
All the Devices are locked bootloader by default.
Bootloader unlock allowed= Yes -- This means you can unlock the bootloader by following regular method.
Bootloader unlock allowed= NO -- This means you can not unlock the bootloader. Because of the Carrier issue i believe.

did you root it and put a different ROM on there? the status might change say no but you can still unlock it. Simply put if first time you boot up your phone and it say Unlock bootloader = NO, then dont try to unlock it. When you root and flash a different rom that status might change to yes but in reality it still a NO

Eventually a right answer.
I was told the same. But i love to risk "playing" with my gadgets. So when i bought the xperia z through a carrier I saw the first time i boot up that the phone Unlock bootloader = NO (about 5 minutes after i bought it from the shop, so it was "original as the carrier made it).
I didn't care it and i tried to unlock. I installed a unlocked bootloader and rom and i had all that problems with the radio stuff . But the second time, after i recovered it by flashtool and a sw from sony (i don't remember the name) I was allowed to unlock it and install unlocked stuff. Now I am with Paranoid and I am so happy

same here... unlock it. install all the unlocked stuff. Radio might don't work. . Get ur phone back by flashtool and sony sw (i don't rememmber the name). The sony software will say u after a while u r not able to recover the phone cuz you are using some some software that is not sony. Don't worry and install another time a rom unbranded by flashtool.
now unlock the phone again and install everything u might like
There is only a problem with the twrp recovery, so use only the other one

I think if you want others to try what you've done, (and it is interesting if we can unlock bootloaders this way)
then you may want to highlight which steps you did in more detail.
Which roms did you try to flash that resorted in no radio functions?
which rom did you try to flash with flashtool? which version of flashtool as well?
Did you do anything else?
I somehow doubt engineers would make an oversight as big as this one.
But fingers crossed nevertheless.

If you relock, can they detect that it's been unlocked?
And what if you use a non-official unlock tool?

If you unlock officially, your phone will be registered in their system as unlocked device. So they won't track your device status anymore. They won't know if you relocked your device or not (since there's no official relock method).
If you unlock unofficially, then won't know your device is unlocked in the first place. So you can relock and claim warranty anytime.
Thanks for the clarification!

Nothing is 100% safe. Anything could go wrong anytime. But most people unlocked by the unofficial way without any problem (I did too). So I'd say it's very safe.
