I always looked for an odexed rom on my old SGS1 when I was on a Samsung rom. Like Stock+ or Tornado.
Anyone willing to have a go because it's something that's missing from the SGS3 so far.
My own phone here has Stock LF2 odexed, franco kernel, LEA modem, Circle % battery mod, 4 way reboot, some bloatware removed, cell standby fixed, call recording, all just from mods posted here. If I knew how to I'd make and call it a rom I would !
There is a way, there is a program here on xda that makes a flashable rom zip directly from your phone... Can someone remember the name of it? Rom factory? :s

why? You have not said why you need an odexed Rom.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Some say it's faster, I thought it was only slightly faster boot time.. :s
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It won't make any noticeable difference on this phone, and if it did it would only be during boot, when the phone is up and running there is no difference.
The reason that most custom roms are deodexed is because it makes it easier to customise and tweak app/UI etc etc
I've odexed my current rom using Paul O'Briens odex-me app ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514576) just to see if it causes any problems. 24 hours have passed and there's no problems. It's as smooth as. I didn't do any benchmarks so any improvement might be my imagination. You need a kernel with init.d support for the scripts to work.
Might be an insignificant speed boost but at least there's a way to do it.

Hey ,
guys what is the best ROM rigth now for SGS ( ROM + kernel )?
im looking for good battey and the fastest that can be xD
i dont care about the design
what u guys think?
the ROMs i have been told that good are
Simply Honey
CM7
what u guys think about this 2 ROMs ?
I think the best one is the stock JVP, with a fugumod kernel. Install a deodexed so you can install mods, like gtalk with video, a Gingerbread theme and you're good to go!

i dont like the stock ROM
but what if i will flash that kernel with simply honey rom?
its may work or its will make a problems?
Try juwe you won't regret
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
juwe's with semaphore kernel
(ROM) GingerCriskelo V7x
[KERNEL] DarckCore 2.7.3
2gether are flyin'
I'm using the Simply Honey since 3.5 but the last one 3.6.1 is very nice and stable.
@Elia: just try some ROMs and you'll find your favourite one.

Go for what's in my signature.. And i've tried lots of gingerbread.
juwe rom + dark core kernel for me. fast n nice theme
Tweaky's ROM, DarkCore kernel, Gingerbread launcher from Market. Best combination for me. Fast, stable and nice looking (stock glass screen, stock Gingerbread theme, 3D app drawer).
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S running Tweaky's ROM with XXJVP Gengerbread
The best rom that i've just found for my SGS after 2 months is:
Rom: RomKitchen jvp (all the basic stuff, you don't need all the crappy things for Samsung) with Modem JVP
Kernel: Semaphore_kernel_JVP_1.2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908).
New drivers, compatible with Tegra: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427).
I removed for caution software update process.
I OC'ed my phone to 1200 mhz and works very well. Only one freeze in 5 days.
The Quadrant score is ~ 2200 - 2750. (i know it's irrelevant but i had to mention about this)
The phone is really fast - i can compare with CM7.
The battery life is very very good.
Take a try and tell me if you like it.

there is a non working adhoc wifi supplicant
bug
non of these bugs are in 2.2.1

Don't forget that while CM7 is a fully independent ROM, and MIUI is based on CM, all the others are based on stock.
So by taking a clean deodexed stock and patching it, you can get exactly what you want - but not the crappy themes and buggy mods we often find in stock - based ROMS.
Actually the best ROM is probably the one yoi generate from the kitchen, but I don't know if JVP is available yet.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've tried various gingerbread stock roms and found JPJV6 the fastest and energy saver
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Goatrip 2.0 for me, best ROM by far & I've been through a few
there is no one "BEST ROM" the question is what you looking for.
some have more battery time and some look better than the others.
so like isaid, the question is what you need and want
JVP with Tegrak under ONEnand Mode I suppose.

there are no such best ROM, but features u wanna have on custom ROMs. U need to know what is ur preference then choose ur own custom ROM.
Speed? definately CM7 but its still on beta.
Speed and features? Juwe's but a bit dull on the black and white.
SGS 2 apps? Tweaky ROM
Kernel? I suggest Talon 1200. Still on dev but still gives best performance and battery saving.
had darky, cyanogen, and now i'm trying Ryyu's EDB
i want the latest rom... like you not stock
Hello I'm putting the finishing touches to my girls custom pink i9000 but now stuck on what rom to use ???

Personally I think that the best ROM he should try is: Simple Beautyone.
And one advantage, as this is ROM for HD2, based on Windows Mobile 6.5, it is even more irrelevant for him than yours...
IMHO, use MIUI as its very clean..
Then flash MyUI EnhancerMOD v3.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1304240
I am using it whole day today, with heavy use of wifi and 3g, battery 15% at 9pm (on single charge), and the speed is awesome.
Hi,
I have two roms I like to use:
Juwe's rom, now v6 version
Doctors rom, also v6 version.
Both rom are based on 2.3.5 JVT including Semaphone kernel 1.8.
Personally I prefer Doctors rom because it is very fast and the battery lasts for me 50-70 hours.

try it yourself... mileage will vary. Recalibrate your battery too.
Sucks there is only 1 GB kernel (non CM7/Miui) that has working GPS..and its showing its age. Only thing holding me back.
Wish Cmenard wold share his knowledge to the other devs to get gps working.
Which one is that? Does simply stock have functional GPS?

cmenards JVP Bullet GB voodoo kernel is the only non CM7/Miui GB Kernel that has gps working.
shall I try simply stock with bullet kernel

Why isnt this in vibrant bible
Isn't simply stock relatively new? I think the vibrant Bible isn't quite as up too date as it used too be. Let us know how it worlds out. I've been curious about that combo myself. I'm on CM7 with streamline and GPS could be a bit more reliable. Wish they could add GPS to talon kernel.

I recently saw the article for the ability to install cwm recovery to our phones system partition via the Xperia CWM Auto Installer app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler
I am currently running the latest kernel from DoomLord, which I love but I wanted to know if there would be any advantages to using the above app over the custom kernel? And also if I use the app would it be safer to flash back to stock kernel, and alos wondering I thought I saw at one time a tweaked stock R800x kernel 2.3.3 that was modified to allow overclocking? Anyway if I do decide to give the above app a shot I was thinking of flashing the modified stock kernel (but I cannot find it anymore, unless I missed it somewhere on XDA) and then using the above app. Mostly just wanting people feedback and whether or not between the two which one would be better performance, and if someone can point me to the thread for the modified stock 2.3.3 kernel that would be fantastic.
Not to thread jack: Wasn't the app released just the same as the boot CWM with just touch support? Wasn't sure if there was a huge difference between the two programs.
As for your question regarding the stock kernel, highest the kernel itself will support is 1024Mhz; might have to throw on some racing stripe decals to make it go faster. I haven't seen any modified-stock kernels to be honest, just DoomLords.

I thought I saw somewhere here on XDA for the xperia plays that there was a cdma modified kernel running 2.3.3 that had been modified to overclock. I am aware that the stock kernel is locked at the 1ghz. Thats 2 reasons why I am using DoomLords kernel, 1 for the overclock and 2 for the recovery. Just wonderinf if there would be any benefit to a stock modified kernel to allow overclock and teh xperia auto installer rather then the custom kernel?
I'm working on a modified stick kernel with kerianftw's help... Right now I'm working on adding cwm into it, and add soon as that's fine and I test it out (it'll probably take a week or so of testing)
Please don't ask for an ETA, because I am a busy man, as soon as I get it done & the bugs out, I'll post it.
I'm not sure if there will be that big of a difference because Doom v10 is pretty awesome...

Hey, I own the play r800x and I am using the 'Xperia CWM Auto-Instaler' with no problems at all. Backups and restores working like a dream, I just recently flashed "[ROM][CDMA] IT-ROM [r800x]" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459456 (which is based of "COLA's" ROM and geared towards speed) and everything is working flawlessly.
If you're looking for speed (which I would love to be able to overclock too) then you should definitely consider using Cola's rom, or the one I'm using (IT-ROM [R800X]) ... I'm almost certain you will not be disappointed, my phone is now running much smoother/faster, no problems at all. Wifi, sms, 3g, phone, everything up and running without any hassle.
Good luck
Can someone point me in the direction of a flashable stock kernel? I can't seem to find one, and i prefer running custom roms, but with the stock kernel.
If I cant find one, does someone mind building one for me from source? I would really appreciate it. If you could build it, and send me the zimage with the libs, I could do the rest.
Also, would packing the boot.img from the stock rom into a flashable zip work on CM, AOKP or other custom roms? I know they change some things that make the stock kernel and components unusable, just curios.
I started to set up a build machine, but my pc does NOT have the resources necessary. I have to run linux on a VM and I only have 2gb of ram. Naturally, that makes things crawl.
Thanks for the help.
Dude... Look on the stickies. Use the search function or Google. Don't be lazy. You are obviously not a complete idiot, so use the resources available to you. This device has been around for awhile so there is a stock kernel here in the forums.

No need to be sorry. Most of us are more than willing to help. But you gotta make an effort to help yourself. Sorry I came off as a d**k. Just how I am. You can ask almost anyone from the E4GT forums about me.

Yeah, unfortunately I wasn't clear in what I wanted, or I didn't ask correctly. But I did do a little more research after posting and found what I wanted. Although I had to make it myself, as I couldn't find anything like it.
Most kernels are packaged with the kernel and the ramdisk (boot.img). If you run an aosp Rom, you can use the stock boot.img. if you run a CM Rom, you can run a CM boot.img (modified ramdisk).
Now, I want to run the stock android kernel, on a CM Rom. I couldn't find ANYTHING that has that. They all have CM kernels, or variants of, but no stock, from source kernel. Any kernel reset zips include the stock libs and ramdisk which is incompatible with CM (bootloop).
To solve this, I unpacked the stock boot.img (zImage and ramdisk), put the zImage together with Koush AnyKernel, modified the updater-script for the N7 and boom, it worked.
The reason I can run the stock kernel on a CM Rom, is because I didn't mess with the ramdisk. So I can now run ANY Rom with my stock kernel, because I don't mess with the ramdisk.
Make sense? Sorry I wasn't clear before.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Makes perfect sense. Although, I believe that most custom kernels, including stock based ones can run almost any ROM including CM especially if you are using multirom . Once I get my N7 fixed tonight I will be able to dive into it and find out exactly what I am using because I have no problem with the 6 or 7 ROMs I have on my device.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Thank you.
You're right, I can run any custom kernel on any Rom, but I could never get a stock kernel zip, to not throw CM into a loop. And all kernel devs, who have kernel reset zips, use a disclaimer saying you can't use on CM based roms. I don't fully understand why
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I see. I don't get it either. Quite perplexing.
