Hello All,
Google has announced Jelly Beans. Google Nexus S will be getting Jelly Beans somewhere next month. This means all 2011 Xperias can run Jelly beans since we all have equal or better hardware than Nexus S.
So what you all think will Sony give us a JB update?
There's already a topic on the JellyBean roll-out. Post your thoughts there.
And no, it's not really likely that we'll be getting official support from Sony on this.
It makes no sense for Sony to do so as it would compete directly with their 2012 line. It's a marketing strategy and it makes sound business sense.
But I don't think there's cause for worry as I'm sure that our resident geniuses here at XDA will port it for our phones.
Swyped from my SE Xperia arc (LT15i) using Tapatalk 2
Even all 2011 XPERIA´s have the same Hardware, i dont think, Sony will update all Mobiles to Jelly Bean. I think, first Sony will say, that thy won´t update the Mobiles, also XPERIA arc S. Then I think, the people will be very unhappy. Then, 5 Month after Release, Sony will say, "Okay, because all people are unhappy with our update plans, we will release JB for arc S, Neo V and Ray, (and perhaps arc, but i dont think so) I think, they will say this in End of July, and we will get JB at the End of October. But I think, It will never run as smooth as GB, not even as ICS. i think it will run like a X10 with 2.3.3 with 100 Apps
Press Thanks if you think the same.:highfive:
Sorry for my Englisch, I´m Austrian
Thanks for Reading:victory:

If they do update it needs to work better than ics , because the only way ics works is if you mod and Rom it to death and even then there isn't a 100% guarantee it will work as smooth as it should on every device.

on a different matter, seriuosly ics just rolled out and theyre already with jelly beans?, ics its not even bug free!, maybe they should concentrate more on improving the already released versions of android instead of making new ones.

On a windows view... Did you guys ever thought that the update status of android is the same as windows?
I mean look
Windows 98 = Eclair - this were the times where they got the boom popularity
Windows 2000 = Froyo = an OS version which just past like nothing.
Windows XP = Gingerbread = a very stable build. Has lot's of compatibility and has a reputation to last longer than the others. Users tend to prefer using this one than the latest version.
Windows Vista = ICS = The rushed update. Updates were focused more on the UI but the OS is quite laggy and has lots of crashes?
Windows 7 = JellyBean = Enhanced version of it's predecessor?
Forgetting Honeycomb?

JellyBean should be compared to windows 7 JellyBean is just 1 subversion higher than ICS.
UI's should be almost similar to ICS
The same as Windows 7 being similar with Windows vista.
Android 5.0 should be the windows 8 comparison as Windows 8 is totally different on Windows 7.
Only thing I see similarities of Windows 7 and ICS is that
ICS = Tablet & Phone in one
Windows 7 = Phone and Desktop PC in one
If this comparison is accurate then probably we would be expecting a higher specs requirement for jellybean but could outperform ICS on low end devices.
"Tried running Windows 7 Ultimate on a pentium 4 PC and it's smoother than XP"
I just hope that our awesome devs have some sparetime to look n try make JB works on our phone...

NB - likening ICS to Vista is ridiculous, it's a massive improvement over Gingerbread and a few individuals having problems or being unhappy with it is in no way indicative of it's overall quality as an OS.

If you remember the phone came out before froyo was announced. You can't accuse them of not designing the phone for something that didn't exist at the time.
Having said that, it isn't an excuse for not supporting froyo. Everyone knows it can handle it. Heck, there are custom Roms lol

Hi all First – As a clarification regarding the current Xperia products –
We are planning another upgrade to bring new features (such as for example multi-touch for Xperia X10) to the current family of Xperia™ smartphones in Q1 2011.
However, at this stage those plans do not include updating the underlying Android version
This decision is based on that we believe that with the current hardware platform an overhaul of the underlying core OS wouldn’t drastically improve the user experience
We believe that the current Xperia range on Android 2.1 coupled with our proprietary upgrades and unique hardware delivers a user experience that is on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of Android 2.2
Our priority right now is to keep enhancing the user experience of the existing products through coming updates and to deliver a fantastic range of smartphones in 2011 that are all on the latest possible version of Android – that is a target we are determined to hit! version of Android – that is a target we are determined to hit

If they will release 2.3.5 in November... when will they release ICS ?
now I can see a pattern of a new version update in nearly 3 months... it was 2.3.2 when launched and later in early Q3 updated to 2.3.3, in late Q3 they started the 2.3.4 update... and now in Q4 they're preparing the 2.3.5 update...
I just hope they can bring ICS very soon.. I mean like early Q1, January or February maximum...
Well I think they will release it next year but not sure when..

sony did claim mentioned arc the flagship product and the ultimate xperia smartphone.

Hi all Xperia 2011 users we will some lose cm support. We maybe won't get update to 4.2 eaven.
So all good developer buying new phones. I think it time to make own team of developers to make cm roms for 4.2 plus...
What you think?

So true n1kolaa. I've seen your request on Twitter for porting cm roms by nAa, whose work is actually incredible. I came from x10 mini pro community and I was one of the testers of minicm roms. We have two options as of now.
1) request devs like nobodyatall to start supporting our devices as they are pretty similar. Correct me if I'm wrong. (Arc, arcS, pro)
2) form a new team for ourselves and start developing with help from recognized devs.
Our forms lack recognized developers and I dont understand why. The community I came from which is x10 mini pro is still getting huge support and it might even get a fully working 4.2 where as 2011 Xperia's are struggling to get it. No offense to anyone.
On otherside lets hope we get 4.2 port by fxp
Cheers.

Very true. I've pointed this out in the thread with the jelly bean petition. Nothing lasts forever as you said. Everyone wants to upgrade to newer phones with newer technologies and whatnot. There's a reason why the X10 didn't get ICS. Other than probably a couple hardware limitations, Sony wants people to move onto bigger and better devices. It's also a marketing strategy. If they weren't releasing phones every year then they would have the time to upgrade older devices as that would be their focus.

That's totally unrelated. FXP doesn't earn money if Sony sells more 2012 phones...
Developer support ends because there aren't enough users to justify the time spent working on ROM's. As the FXP team pointed out elsewhere, they would probably have to create an 3.x kernel from scratch, which will take 6 months. In 6 months, the number of people using their 2011 Xperia daily will probably be half or less of that today. I notice activity on the forum declining rapidly since this summer.

Well I thought I would put my opinion there. I wasn't talking about FXP and devs but more about Sony in general
Sorry

Sorry, nothing against that, in fact I agree with you, but Ithought you were talking about FXP, it seemed a bit unrelated

I've sent a PM to diestarbucks 2 days ago, he has forwarded it to the relevant mods. Awaiting reply.
I'm up for it, anything to make it last just a little longer
BTW, maybe it would be better to add Neo L development to Xperia Play forums. Neo L is kind of a weird add-on now, as ROM's for Neo are not simply compatible with it.
New version.

It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster when it comes to Jelly Bean on the Galaxy S2. Release dates have been pushed back and back, and there have recently been rumors flying about from Samsung Korea, but a solid release date still eludes S2 owners.
Well now we might actually be getting close to something more definite, as a Samsung spokesperson has stated that Android 4.1 updates will begin rolling out to current S2 owners in the beginning of February, if you’re living in Singapore.
So that’s both good news and bad news I suppose, great news that we are officially moving closer to a release date, but bad news as we still have no idea when the rest of the world will be seeing the update.
I suspect that the official release will fit with the recently information leaked from Samsung Korea, which interestingly has been taken down after it leaked. The leaked image showed the device running Android 4.1.2 and also listed the pre-installed apps and functionality which will ship with the update. Whilst 4.1.2 is not the newest version of Android, the update will contain all of the major Jelly Bean features, such as the updated camera, enhanced notification panel, swipe gesture typing, Google Now, and Project Butter.
So when can users in other regions expect to see the Jelly Bean update? Well it’s hard to say exactly, but we are probably still in for a long wait before we see any updates roll out in Europe or the US, as carriers will still want to tweak their specific versions of the update, and make sure that all their bloatware still works.
The good news is that we are officially etching ever closer, so we should hopefully see the Jelly Bean update roll out across the globe in the months following February.

Enough Sammy!
We ain't really playing your game anymore!
I am done with Samsung and It's little JB. I am pretty sure JB that sammy releases won't be no different to ICS (Except for Butter and few other spices).
Sammy -> ***** please! I'm done with ya & your exinos crap!. CM 10.1 \m/
Not interested anymore to Jellybean update for SGS2. Its because of delaying tactics from Samsung. They released Galaxy S2 plus with JB. I think Samsung is focusing on sales for SGS2 plus. So that JB for SGS2 is delayed. Samsung Sucks!

I think what's really sad is that Samsung is still the fastest third-party company in terms of OS upgrades... :/

1997. Hmm. Maybe let's make all forums layout the same, as Facebook looks. Then everyone would know, how to use all functions.

All this whinging about how crap Samsung is is doing my head in. There is a reason they are one of the biggest sellers of devices and that their phones are top of the hackers pile. The devices and the updates are among the best out there.

Sony will run flawleslly custom roms like CM, with butter and all the stuff, so you will not have to cry or wait for Sony to update or release sources or whatever.
