Need 2nd Android phone for wife recommendations on At&t?

The wife's iphone 3g finally is taking a dive. Like to put her into an entry level android based phone that will work on At&t. What phones will work on the at&t network?
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...2&allFeatures=on&allManus=on#fbid=WbfKe3rhII7
How about the motorola atrix.
Dual core and all the works..

Are you sure you want an entry level Android phone for her? AT&T doesn't have a particularly good selection of low-end Android devices, and of those available they would hardly compare for a person coming from an iPhone. The HTC Aria is just ridiculously underpowered, and all Motorola devices that I've used with Motoblur have been terrible.
I suggest the Samsung Captivate or the HTC Inspire. They're easy to use and you can pretty much guarantee she won't have anything to complain about in terms of speed and responsiveness.

I would recommend you stay away from the Captivate, it has a few hardware issues that Samsung is not addressing. I am on my sixth Captivate, and all have had issues, and have recently switched to a Nexus One that was given to me. I looked at the HTC Inspire yesterday, it is a pretty nice device. The Motorola Atrix also looks very promising.
If you're not aware, the Vibrant's radio, although a TMo phone, do work on AT&T 3G bands.
Just be careful if she's interested in any of Google's location-based services. I had (have, sitting on my desk now) a Vibrant for awhile and could never resolve the notorious GPS issue. I came back to the Nexus One because of it.

Are these the works?
locked bootloader
bloatware
expensive
motoblur
apparently shipping with Froyo
Froyo (and currently Gingerbread) does not even support dual cores, lol
Engadget says the docking experience is very poor
once Gingerbread supports dual core (maybe April?), Motorola has to push the update out.. my guess is this won't be timely.
For these reasons, there are going to be a LOT of pissed off people who cough up the money for this phone because its "dual core"
I made a post earlier about the atrix . Wasn't aware dual core isn't supported yet on froyo . I'm trying desperately to avoid another iphone (cough) but cannot buy anything through att with the fear of having my account screwed with and losing the unlimited data plans. Have to buy out of pocket and $500 is a bit high for a casual android user. Maybe a used N1 is the way to go.

I switched my wife's line from iPhone 3GS (unlimited data) to iPhone 4 to Windows Phone 7 and now to Android (N1) and still have the unlimited data (yes, I spoil her and she knows it ). If you previously had unlimited data you'll be grandfathered in and keep your unlimited data plan, unless you ask for a different tier for whatever reason. That's how it was explained to me, and I've switched her line a few times, and I just went from my N1 to an Inspire and still have the unlimited data plan from when I had my iPhone 3G a couple years ago.
With that being said, as I mentioned I just got the Inspire. I'm giving it a week to check it out and see if I like it. I love my N1, and it'll be hard to part with it as my main phone, but it'll stay nearby "just in case"! The Inspire seems pretty nice so far, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion.
I just set up the HTC Inspire 4G for a friend and it is a pretty good experience. Has a little ATT garbage on it that cannot be deleted (you can hide the icons) and also HTC Sense. Actually Sense is not too bad. It is a great price at $99 and just came out last Sunday.
PHIL
I know it is older and not supported by ATT or SE anymore but the Sony Ericsson X10 has been nothing but good to me. The guys over at X10 section here in XDA have some good things going on as far as development goes. 1ghz snapdragon, 8 mp camera, 720p video with flash, 4 inch screen.
I ran it for a while until I gave it to my wife when I got my N1. They are finishing up the 2.3 build and it is all being done with out even cracking the bootloader.
I've got a mint condition att n1 for sale in the marketplace. I highly recommend it!

check out this thread...they are saying that dual core support is there, just not for single threaded apps. So really we are waiting on developers to support multiple cores in their apps, but the os already does.
I'd say htc inspire is a good one to pick. Price of a midrange but runs like a high end. Plus htc sense is pretty useful for women in my opinion. And if you wanna change to a different rom later on, it won't be hard cuz htc is fine with customizations.

Get an HTC Inspire. It rocks I got it on launch day and previously had a Nexus One
For the price you simply can't beat the Inspire 4G, got mine at Costco for 79.99...
I replaced my N1 with this phone and I love it..
HTC Inspire 4G the best choice
I would hang tough a few weeks and see what happens with the atrix. Depending on whether they get root and so on that would probably be the handset to have as it will probably have the longest legs of the bunch depending on how quickly multi core support arrives.

agree.. which raises the next point that the apps to take advantage will be games, as the computational requirements for a general purpose cell phone app tends to be minimal, the bottlenecks mostly lying in the cellular connection speeds. for instance, LevelUp can add dual core support all they want, but checking Twitter with Plume just isn't all that needy, hardware wise.
from a specs standpoint, the Atrix is interesting but is basically an expensive, closed gimmick.
dual-core is an important step to push the platform & apps but we are a LONG way from a practical benefit to end users (unless you play games)
I think the main hardware aspect of the atrix that would make me lean to it is the front facing camera. If that phone can be rooted it may be my next device.

Oh yes, been waiting for it. It was either the G2X or the sensation. I'm going with the Sensation.
It's almost like the MT4G, except dual core and a bigger screen. But it's all good. I can't wait!
Why not just wait for the mytouch 4g slide?

This phone should be good enough till then, or I can buy one from ebay and put it on the contract I have and sell the MT4G.
How can you guys manage to pay for phones like that? I mean, the earliest you could have gotten the mt4g was like what, 7 months ago? Do you pay full price for them or trade in your current phones or something?

not true, I upgraded to the samsung vibrant back in july after it came out, then the mt4g dropped and so i bought it full price, which was like $400 and then sold my vibrant for $350 on ebay, so out of pocket it costed $50 for the "upgrade", so not trillionaires, just smart shoppers lol
true, if you keep a phone in great condition you can get a good resale value. as for me, I upgraded my sidekick 08 to the mytouch 4g and it cost me around $200 and Im keeping it as mint as possible
Yeah its pretty easy to sell a phone on Craigslist or eBay for a good amount then go purchase a new one at full retail.

Guys, DO NOT GET THE SENSATION, get the g2x instead the sensation has a arm a8 processor (even though it's clocked at 1.2ghz), compared to the g2x's arm a9(clocked at at 1ghz), so it's actually a better processor, regardless of all the other specs.

[Q] Should I buy MyTouch 4G with my 200$?? or something else?

hi all.
should i buy MY4G with my 200$
or is there a better phone for 200$?
I want a FAST Android phone.
i have the G1 ATM.
and i saw that the MY4G is really good.
what do you think i need to buy with your experience with this phone?

Depending on whatS more important to you. Do you Carr if you have a physical keyboard? Larger screen? Cause to be honest most phones are around the 1.MHz to 1.2mhz and m then you have the dual core. I love the mt. It can literally do anything. Just the other day I blew up a car with it. Pretty badass.

i would recommend either the mt4g slider or the sensation but are new phone and personally i think they are the 2 best phones t-mobile has. they are both $200 i think.if you want netflix on it then deffinately go with the my touch 4g slide it's on sale right now on the site and comes out in like a week in the stores, so hold on and wait for that one if you want a my touch phone
The only problem for you would be getting MT4G at a price of $200 (assuming that your declared location is correct, which means you won't be buying a contract deal with T-Mobile, but paying full cash for the phone - in which case it'll cost you $450 with T-Mobile or a bit cheaper - just a bit below $400 - on eBay).
Personally, I think it's the most cost-effective phone on the market right now.
just wait for a month or so and get some dual core action when they are more mainstream

This phone can be troublesome with the chance of a bad screen/chip, I would just go for a dual core phone, they're faster and have better battery due to the way 2X cores work compared to 1 core devices. They will have better support for longer. But I'm waiting to get a new device when the Nexus 3 is around or Ice cream sandwich is out. When ICS is out they will have 720P res and no more HW buttons according to the news. And Quad-cores are in the works so it's really up to you, I would save my money up and stay with the G1, you had it this long so why not wait a little bit more? This phone is nice, but it's defiantly showing it's age now, official support will be dropped for this in a few months i'm guessing for the MT4GS and the successor for the MT4G, maybe MTHD or something.

I came from a g1 and it lasted me 15 months b4 i decided i needed a faster phone and it really was painfully slow compared to phones out these days, i lucked out and got a sweet deal on my current mt4g phone(even tho it has bad emmc chip, i still got a good display and no problems so far...) on craigslist. Which saved me my upgrade that's in august, but now that i have the mt4g it's really not as hard to decide to wait on the Hercules, Nexus 3 or whatever else is around the corner in 2012
Wait it out a bit longer if you've decided on the mt4g the slide is dual core beast, even the sensation will be fully unlocked and available to public in days.

Because you don't know what issues the Slide has then I wouldn't tell someone that this phone would be less troublesome. The Mytouch 4G could turn out to be a G2X, awesome phone if you have one that works. I'm sure everyone said the screen was great on the Mytouch, until they started comparing, and how long did it take to start noticing the very minor problem of the chips?
Get a MT4G from Craigslist... I always see them going for about 150-200$. Then keep that until the merger. That way you can get a phone with the appropriate bands. No use in using your upgrade then having the phone to be unusable within 8 months.

Only thing the infuse has in common with the hercules is the 4.5 inch screen and internal storage, the hercules has:
dual core 1.2 ghz Qualcom processor
1gb ram
42mb radio
NFC

Dunno about the battery yet, but those specs alone have me sold unless the nexus 3 can dethrone it.

Ur opinion on Hercules not getting Exynos processor?

That's IT. Nexus Prime I'm coming
If Nexus Prime comes to TMO, isn't it likely to also not have Exynos for the same 42 Mbps reason?
What I'm thinking is while it's unfortunate, it's not the end of the world. I'm more curious to see if it's got that damned Yamaha DAC, or if they wised up and went back to Wolfson.
Since I'm not eager to switch off of TMO just yet, unless the Nexus does come to TMO, I'm likely to get the SGS2/Hercules.
I really have been looking forward to the SGSII exynos proc....I probably wont be getting hercules for a multitude of reasons (mainly money) I would still get it if i could just to work on a kernel for it, but I would really prefer exynos vs anything else. Mainly because the Mali-400MP has significantly higher texture performance (lower geometry, but texture matters more for current loads)
Deal breaker. Well I was waiting for an ICS device anyway..which would be media prime

Sprint coverage and 3G speeds too terrible/slow for me, and they're virtually guaranteed not to improve that at any decent rate.
As terrible as AT&T is, I may have to leave T-Mobile for them and get an iPhone or something that allows me to get a 4GB data plan because I really need 3G coverage, and they put up a new tower right near here earlier this year.
But that's fine. They're getting all the good phones these days it seems, anyways...
for people who cant just walk up and leave tmobil like me. Ill still be getting the hercules because hands down its the best phone hands down by tmobil.
2 questions about the Prime:
1. on all different android/tech sites I keep seeing people say they will wait for the Prime...not that it is a bad idea, but its supposed to be made by samsung, so if tmobile gets it, wont they just do the same thing with the CPU? What Cpu is the Prime rumored to have?
2. It seems every android site i go to people are saying to pass this up for the Prime "in a couple/few weeks" It seems people are sure its coming to Tmobile and sure its coming in just a couple weeks. I keep seeing that as if its a fact....
I will probably wait to see the prime too, im just saying it seems like people are 100% sure of its specs, that it is coming to Tmobile, and that it is only a couple of weeks out...I dont see the manufactures that are releasing the GS2 (3 major except Verizon), releasing a nexus prime/droid/samsung prime within just a couple weeks of releasing the GS2....
any thoughts? Im not hating, i just want to be clued in as to why everyone is so sure its coming to Tmobile, in a few weeks and what CPU it will have???
I would wait and see. Supposedly the next nexus is 1,5 dual core ti omap 4460 and an overclocked powergx vr 540 or whatever its called. Its hard to say what to wait for. I want to see how well the phone handles with higher resolution and if the battery life is there. The latest tech nology is always a waiting game and there is something better around the corner always. Plus, i also want to see what moto brings to the table. I plan on getting a phone by december, and it is my intention, seriously, to have this next device for two years+.

relating this to my question right above, assuming the nexus prime is a samsung phone, I thought most people wanted the samsung exynos processor in it; which is why many are disappointed by the Hercules not getting it...?
So i don't know anything about the ti processor you are referring to, but how is it supposed to compare to the samsung exynos processor? I guess im am just confused that we all wanted the exynos on the hercules, but are ok that it is not rumored to be in the nexus prime?
It's almost retarded, this choice of them. I don't need to download stuff at 4.5 MB/s at all times, but I need to have a fast and responsive device with a nice energy management at absolutely all times. 21 Mbps on a f'ing phone is already overkill.

S3 US or S3 international?

Hi guys, first I wanna say data speed isn't a problem for me. But by buying S3 US version I could just walk in tmobile store and exchange if there's a problems with the phone.

99% there won't be any problem unless you are really unlucky. I have been buying new unlocked smartphones from the last 2 years and never had problems except for once which had a dead pixel. I got that exchanged from online seller without issues. Granted I don't keep phones for long but you should be fine.
Have you had problems with your phones before regularly and had to exchange? If yes then may be you find faults easily and better to go with US version, if not international should be fine .... So make a call based on your past experiences.
