Tried to root my cousins sgh-i897 phone now it loops with the galaxy s screen then restarts and shows the screen again. It had 2.3.3 on it and I used this file to try to root it CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS.tar
Maybe it was for the wrong phone/ os ver?
Oh btw its the rogers version
Anyhoo what do I do know? I feel bad because shes been sitting here forever
EDIT: If this is the wrong file could someone please show me where to go for the right one? I can still get into downloading so I think I didnt brink the thing
Thanks guys
Pop the battery and follow the instructions:
[HOWTO] Flashing CWRecovery to i9000m & upgrade to ICS AOSP 4.x ROM from any version
Just a caveat, I saw that you are on Bell but it's a Rogers phone. Bell = i9000m. Rogers = i9000m? What baseband/modem did it have?
[Firmwares]Official I9000/I9000M Firmwares collection [Latest: XWJW6, XWJW5, XXJW4]
i9000m uses KG3 modem (first link above).
thanks for the quick response, well I was an idiot and I flashed a ver of I896UXJL1 that gives me a at&t screen but it lets me boot into clockwork mod and downloading screen... its a rogers phone, Im doing this for my cousin (never again)
Ok so I found the original rom and put it back on the phone.... If she wants ICS shes gonna have to take it to someone more experienced lol
Thank you for all your help

Hey guys
I'm running the P1000JXJJ1, FroYo JPJJ2 firmware on my Tab, and samfirmware states P1000JVJL1 is the latest one !
so I was advised NOT to use KIES, and ODIN was better !!
My tab is rooted with OCLF set, Just a quick question, Odin will delete all my data and also I believe that I'd have to re-ROOT the device right?
another question is since I didn't have market out of the box, the product sales code has been changed to XSG.
thanks a lot guys in advance
Cheers
Jackie
if u use oclf, undo oclf b4 update firmware, kies or odin works fine for me, i'll only use odin when i screw up with my tab
and will I have to re root the device and also will ODIN delete all my data?
Hi,
searching for something else I accidentily found this thread.
Maybe my experince might be of any interest: got the galaxy tab 3 days ago, installed KIES and instantly got a message to update the firmware to Froyo JK5. I followed the suggestion to save my data which I regret later, because it took very long (had already copied a lot of videos to the internal sd) and couldn´t stop it. To cut it short:
the update was successful and nothing deleted, just everything in place. Also synchronized Outlook contacts, though at 96% it got stuck - waited a few minutes, then broke up and all contacts had been transferred fine.
(don´t know, if firmware is different for other countries...)
Odin will not delete your data if you did not choose to repartition, no need to use pit file to repartition if you are just upgrading fw from the same region..safest is still via KIES
To correct some mis-information from above. Flashing with Odin can delete your data, it depends on what components are included in the image you flash. If you flash an official ROM with Kies you should not loose your data but there is always a risk of an issue occurring during any flash that could lead to data loss. Unless you flash a pre-rooted custom ROM you will loose root and SU during a flash. These can be re-applied easily to the SGT using the Super One-Click method.
Redardless of what flashing method you use, if you use RyanZA's OCLF you must undo the lag fix before you flash, otherwise you will certainly loose data and possibly end up with a corrupt system that won't boot (I had first hand experience of this early on in my flashing days with my SGS!). You shouldn't really need to apply a lagfix to the SGT as it doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the SGS.
Finally, flashing with Odin can lead to product code being changed, especially if the ROM you flash isn't intended for the normal product code of your device. There are various ways to restore your poduct code, look in the Samsung Galaxy S forums for suggestions on how to do this as the basic construction of the ROMs is very similar between the two devices from that point of view. Also, be aware that people with SGS devices have reported loosing their IMEI while flashing with Odin. If this happens you will end up with a WiFi only device unless you backed up your /efs folder before you flashed. There's lots of info in the SGS forums about this and it's worth a read if you are new to flashing. I haven't heard of anyone with a SGT loosing their IMEI yet but it's worth taking precautions.
Happy flashing folks!!
thanks a bunch guys, I'm now running the latest version !!
was just trying to install the latest gingerbread theme from the forums !! will let you all know how that went

Go to the Android Development section.
Look up Overcome and BOCA for the Galaxy Tab. Both a great however I prefer BOCA. The current release is 2.3.4 but 2.3.7 is in the works.
If you follow the instructions for BOCA you will have a GTab that feels like it was newly born again.

Yes. Follow the instructions on the magrathea site or overcome
Use overcome instructions to instal stock GB 5. It tells you the pit and modem to use for your tab.
Then install the overcome kernel and reboot. It will root the tab and format the storage.
Then you install the Boca zip over the overcome kernel.
If you just want overcomes Rom follow their instructions. They make it simple

is that all??hmm,

Small run down of what i did and if anyone can help ....
I was running 2.3.3 and updated to the unofficial 2.3.4 using odin and simply honey 5.0 revenge by sgt. That's when i noticed that the phone does not connect to the bell network. The rest of my phone works perfectly even the wifi...but like i said i can t seem to connect to the net work anymore.....
firmware 2.3.4 / baseband version i9000xxjvr/ kernel version 2.6.35.7 [email protected]/ build number simply honey 5.0 revenge
i ve tried some stuff that i have read in these forums like
1. Put apn info my self....tried that nothing.
2. Called tech support and they told me to take the battery out and then the sim
put it back , nothing again
My question is do i have to go back to stock rom to get the network back or is there something else i can try....
information on this subject is sketchy, when i do a google search ...any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance
It probably was a bad flash sounds like some of your system files did'nt compile correctly. Odin back to stockand reflash. I always have flash problems when going past 2.2.1 almost always have to odin back thats why I stick with Froyo a bit mre stable when hopping roms.

So I've been looking all through the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 threads and can't find ANYTHING on rooting this phone. I've rooted several other phone models, including the S2 and I've never had so much trouble finding info on rooting a phone.
Could someone place a sticky on this?
I'm trying to root this Bell Canada Galaxy S I9000 on ver 2.33 and I can find plenty of instructions AFTER rooting but that doesn't help me if the phone can't even access the system
I just want to root this and install Cynaogen 7 on it. Help, please!

Very useful thread, thanks a lot ^^.

OK here is a good starter guide.
The most important thing is getting a rooted kernel that matches your current Android version, wrong version will lead to bootloops and sadness. Once you've got a rooted kernel and CWM recovery you can backup and flash CM7 (twice, trust me).
CR Root thread has a long archive of kernels, should have one that matches your version
There are several methods existing in order to root your phone.
If you just need to root without changing your ROM, flash a kernel via Odin (kernel examples : Semaphore, CF-root, ...)
Why I'm rooting
Thanks everyone for your help.
TBH I'm rooting this for my brother's friend. He unplugged the phone in the middle of an update and now it won't make or recieve calls anymore... Soooo I'm guessing if I install a new ROM on it, it'll fix the whole issue... I could be wrong though, but it's worth a shot.

He unplugged it during a Kies update? Check if the IMEI matches the sticker on the phone. If the IMEI is corrupted you might be best to send it back, a custom ROM will void any warranty.
If the IMEI is OK then rooting it and flashing a stock ROM might clean it up.
Best of luck

This is all hearsay from my brother, all he told me was this guy unplugged his phone in the middle of an update. If it was OTA, or Kies, I don't know. I'll check the IMEI, but I know his warranty is up crap creek, he tried to get it fixed under warranty and they wanted to charge him over 600 bucks.
I'm going to assume the IMEI is fine though, as he's getting data just fine without wifi being turned on, and he's connecting to Bell Canada, he's just not getting voice calls in or out.

Flash a stock rom using g heimdall or Odin and go from there. Putting cm7 over it without calls working might make the issue worse. Flash stock first. Then install clockwork mod kernel, ie hardcores speedmod. Then flash cm7.no need to mess around rooting. U just need cwm.

Hello folks
So far, I was waiting for some update from Papa to get us a nice LC4 rooted kernel with CWM, but given the activity of the japanese forum that doesn't seem to be happening for now.
After many attempts and some cold sweat, here is what I could figure out.
- Once the update to LC4 is done, it's pretty hard to come back to a former version. None of the KLx series can be flashed, or so it seems. Your only hope is to go back to a SC02BOMJJ1 rom (Froyo) and then start upgrading again.
- The KLx series cannot be rooted using the zergrush, or so it seems.
- Once your phone is rooted with zergrush, the update to the Value Pack seems to keep the root (that's what I read on a japanese forum).
So, to progress a little, what I'd need is a 2.3.3 stock rom, like for instance the SC02BOMKF2.
Once someone can get us that
1) roll back to JJ1 (Odin + JJ1 stock + PIT)
2) upgrade to KF2 (Odin + KF2 stock)
3) root with zergrush
4) upgrade to LC4 (not Odin, using the NTT Docomo update)
and it shall be working as far as I read.
I have the JJ1 files here if somebody needs them, but anyone with a 2.3.3 stock rom ???
hello sir, im a sc02b user too, actually i now have the SC02BOMLC4 value pack on my phone and nothing seems to be new from the last update (KL4). Anyways, ive got my phone rooted but i have to use the kyapat10mod3 to get rooted, yeah that's right my kernel is still SC02BOMKL4 and nothing seems to be worried about im still using my phone now. OC and Memory freak are still working. What I want for our phone is to get some compatible ROMs e.g. CM9, DARKNIGHT, etc. ive already tried the CM9 and its pretty cool but it cannot detect any sim card it has no baseband and EMEI as well. Have a good day..c:
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000M Model and I wanna root it so I can have the newest firmware and cool features etc...
I have Odin installed and I know how to make my phone is detected in ODIN via USB (in download mode)
Before going any further and destroying my phone I wanna know some step by step for rooting my phone.
Like , I know nothing of the process... Could someone provide some good recent tutorial with the newest (not Beta) firmware I can get ?
My phone is currently 100% Stock.
Let me know If you have any advices, or good links to provide me...
N/B. Obviously I did some researchs... All I found so far are tutorials that says like : Your phone must be already running X.XX version (which are not supported on the s1) and be Rooted. Nothing really helpful for my stock galaxy.
Thx in advance

Yeah for rooting I think its best to leave someone alone for that, if you can't figure out how to root the phone then you should prob not be messing with it in the first place.
Just read the sticky notes and they are pretty easy to explain how to do it.

I have a M version and i can tell you, it doesnt matter. All canadian models of phones are VERY close to international, so you can use all their guides.
So to root:
1. Download either devil kernel or semaphore .tar file from respective threads. Flash them under PDA in odin, no re-partition. Leave everything else.
2. Your phone will not boot, DONT WORRY. Since recoveries are packaged with the kernel on this phone, all we are after is the custom recovery. We dont need the phone to boot.
3. Download Cyanogenmod 9 nightly/rc2. They are virtually bug free and not beta.
4. Flash it from your custom recovery!
5. Now when you flash cm9, it will change your baseband. You will have horrid signal, so flash back to a KG3 modem. You can find it, there is a big thread. And if the modem says nexus s cm7/9, its okay, it will work.
6. Wipe Data/factory Reset from recovery.
7. Have fun with it
