While I may not be a developer I am an expert on hardware.
A few things here:
1) Congratulations! You picked AMD over Intel!
2) I would highly recommend AGAINST putting your OS on a HDD.
Look at SSDs (I have 2 Corsair Force 3 120GB SSDs in RAID1 for my OS)
3) Please recheck the price of that motherboard it's not $44.99 (I would also recommend possibly waiting for the NEXT amd chipset with PCIe 3.0).
4) Do not get the Radeon 7750. Get the 7770. It's a huge difference (I'm on a 5770 and it still plays all the games and isn't much difference from the 7770).
5) Regarding the case, does that include a power supply?
6) What's your TOTAL budget?
i just put this together as a base for some people i have a custom built pc already yes a ssd is better for os but for extreme budget you can use a regular hd and that motherboard is that price because microcenter has it in a bundle deal right now they almost always have that going on the case does include a power supply and i would recomend the 7770 but like i said this is for a extreme budget build if you wanna see my pc specs look here http://www.modsrigs.com/detail.aspx?buildid=28174 i got a fx6100 comming in the next few days and im looking at getting the 7770 myself and i wanna grab 16gigs of 1866 ram when i can afford it i have been building gaming pc's for about 6 years im not a intel hater but for budget i use amd

I am very familiar with VirtualBox and I love it.
Got 7 VMs running here.
Regarding linux:
In my free time I contribute to the fedora project.
I am working on a Fedora spin for developers (ironic as I've stated I'm not a dev here I know).
Anyways, from what I have jumped into with Android dev on here Ubuntu was a lot easier for people to get an Android dev friendly environment setup.
There are many tutorials here and many people will suggest Ubuntu.
You can also use Linux Mint. It's the same thing as Ubuntu except 100 times better because it is based on Cinnamon and Mate desktop managers.
Anyways, you can check out my fedora wiki page here and find me on IRC if you want to join/help/contribute to fedora (all info is on wiki page).

Vicodan you contribute to fedora? I use Red Hat (I'm old school from like 8 years ago hahaha) but in an honesty I use Fedora. I have not checked but what is it. 16 or 17 now? I think I have fedora 16.

For the $800 budget one. The Asus crosshair v is a good choice. I have that one in my computer

i like your build for the 800 budget but the crosshair is way overkill if you arnt using nvidia if you want a 990fx borad grab the gigabyte 99fx ud3 and step up to the fx6100 but with spending that kinda money you wanna drop the psu that comes with the case and pic up a 80+ bronze certified unit i perfer corsair ozc and seasonic they have the best warranties

Yes I do. Currently maintain a package, do QA, and I'm a member of the Ambassadors team. I started contributing to Fedora in January.. it's a good break from contributing here.
I use all different kinds of Unix/Linux.
The latest release is 17.
Did you have any questions about Fedora/RHEL or CentOS?

I take this approach:
Buy the most expensive Asus motherboard possible and the cheapest AMD CPU for the latest socket.
That way I spend very little on my CPU and I can upgrade later for very cheap.
There is not much performance difference between the various CPUs on AM3+.
Sure 8 cores is better than 4 but you're already getting a screaming CPU to begin with.

There is no such thing as "overkill" for your motherboard.
I do not like Gigabyte.

That is correct. You don't need a crosshair usless you want a good gaming pc. I have radion ATI with a 8 core amd fx, windows 7, 8 GB ram, ASUS MB with hdmi support, a 32" HD TV monitor, Ubuntu 12.04 on virtualbox and everything works fine.
I have 500GB's dedicated to Ubuntu on virtualbox with swap (my kind of overkill ), and 50GB ccache for compiling roms/kernels. I also have virtualbox set to treat the VHDD as a SSD so it speeds things up even more.
SSD's won't really help much and are WAY OVERPRICED i.m.o. They increase read speeds but not so much for writing speeds which is what you need for compiling, and way less storage.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/270708-32-ssds-overpriced-substandard
gigabyte and asrock are quickly becoming some of the best mobo's out there i have the gigabyte 990fx-ud3 and its a rock solid performer and is has alot of great reviews and site recommendations the reason i say go fx6100 over the 4100 or 4100 is the larger l2 cache and the 4100 is really a daul core with 2 bd modules per core the 6100 is a tri core with two bd modules per core effectively making them quad and hex core cpus like the big boy 8120 and 8150's are really quad cores with 2 bd modules per core making them effectively 8 core chips and the 6100 will oc higher than the 4100 and honestly with these bd chips you need at least 4.3 ghz to really open them up to there true potential they were meant to be clocked higher than they were put on the market for but they had yield issues and were so far behind in releasing them they just under-clocked them i have a 6100 coming i use a 955be clocked at 4ghz now but i just did a 4100 and 6100 build and really liked the 6100 and when i grab the money im going full watercooling and and crank the 6100 up to a lil over 5ghz itll be at 4.5-4.6 on my aio water cooler till then

I guess no real surprises. Still disappointed the wifi model has no micro SD. So I had to go ahead and spend the extra $100 and get the 32GB model.
I don't normally pre-order. I tend to like taking my chances at Best Buy or something, so I can have it in my hands the same day. But I have a feeling this thing is going to be crazy popular.
Full 1080p playback? I have not had this experience at all.
I tried the default movie player, rock media player, and Vplayer and none of them have played either of my HD files that I put on it in 720p. Especially confusing considering they are advertising the 3.0 with it when I'm in hopes of 3.1 improving the performance.
Thank you for info. Just have seen that there are 2 models of 10.1 GT.

Do you think I should wait for 10.1 or to get 10.1v today in Spain. I would wait for the slim version but if it will be released on 8th of June in US it will be available in Europe or at least in UK in another 3 weeks.
Do you think worth the waiting?
Yes.

Has anyone noticed that the links no longer work?? I wonder what this means?
I would assume that either they already filled their pre-order amount, or something was delayed causing it to be retracted. Anyone order something and receive a notice?
Tried searching for model number and generic search with no findings.

Ordered mine early this morning. Never purchased anything from jr.com, so don't know if it's normal for them, but I never got a confirmation email or anything.

I used Google Checkout. And the order is there.
Here is my original order below, I also checked my paypal account and they did pull the money. But weird thing is, when I search my order it is not there. Very interesting. Is this going to be the begining of the Samsung Tablet shortage???? Only time will tell. And no emails from them. Ordered about 3pm est.

Yep its popular alright. I have the Google I/O Limited Edition version and its the final product for sure. Everything on it is sexy as hell. no SD slot is correct unless they find a slim slit for it somewhere down the line.
The display is friggin awesome, and has a really good weight and feel in your hands.

Hmmm... very odd. I'm going to press my luck and hope that Best Buy in my area has plenty in stock. Still though, curious as to why they pulled it from their site.
So I just rechecked my order and it is there now. So maybe the whole system went down when they pulled it off their order page. Not sure. But it is there now.
I saw that this morning but think I'm going to wait and see if Amazon or Best Buy does a pre order

I'd understand Amazon but why Best Buy?
Sometimes they do pre-orders like with the iPad 2 or cell phones like the Evo 3D. I'm hoping they do a pre-order otherwise we will have people buying and reselling like these idiots on Craigslist. Ship to store or pick up at store works great in situations like this.

Has anyone spotted any sensible pre-order sites in the UK? There are a couple showing up in Google but with greatly over inflated asking prices.
If the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB 3G version is quoted as $599.00, then that currently equates to the UK price being £369.66. I really hope that's right, but alas we usually pay way over what the price 'should be'. I hope we get confirmation of the UK price very soon!
Fingers crossed.
It doesn't work like that. If something costs $X in USA, it usually costs around $1.5X in UK or around X-100 or so pounds in UK. And what costs X in UK costs X euros in Europe and X swiss francs in Switzerland.
Expect the 32 gb 10.1 to be around 500 pounds in UK, if not more!
Just wanted to share costco.com is selling the 16 for 429 and the 32 for 499. They have a 90 day return policy so if a better tablet comes out, take yours back and buy the better one.

Best buy has 8gb version on sale for only $279 right now. The black Friday sale ends Saturday though. They should have plenty in stock as this is not a popular tablet. I'm seriously considering getting one since they sold out of the 16gb Asus Transformer for only $249. I'm doing my research now comparing the two. The Thrive has the full size ports going for it. I am concerned about the battery life and if this thrive has IPS screen like transformer. From the demo version at best buy, it didn't look like the screen was looking as good as the Transformer although same screen resolution. Also heard this thrive doesn't have gorilla glass. What can you owners tell me if any of this Is true or not. I'd rather have more storage but not an issue since this tkes full size SD cards.
BuyDig has the 03GB for $300
Toshiba Thrive 10" 16GB Android Tablet

BuyDig offers the 1.6-lb. Toshiba Thrive 10.1" 16GB Google Android Tablet in Black, model no. PDA01U-00101F, for $369.95. Coupon code "SDEALS070" cuts it to $299.95. With $7.95 for shipping, that's the lowest total price we could find by $50, although we saw it bundled with a Toshiba back cover for $8 less last week (since expired). It features an NVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core processor, 10.1" 1280x800 IPS multi-touch LED-backlit LCD, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal flash storage, 2-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel back-facing camera, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n wireless, SD card slot, GPS, built-in gyroscope, HDMI output, Google Android 3.1 (Honeycomb), and more.
Any news on when it will ship? The processor and video are already dated http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/toshiba-announces-at100-tablet-10-1-inches-worth-of-honeycomb/ and still not released. What is Toshiba waiting for? Are they going to scrap the prototype specs and ship a more current model?

What a failure from Toshiba not to offer a quad core tablet for the Xmas season. The Thrive for $300 or less is a great value. That's 50% the cost of the Toshiba Prime / doc combo.
the title describe well the topic...i found the transformer discounted at 300 euro in a shop and i'm keen to buy it, it is good enough? keeping in mind that my budget is max 400 euros and i'll be using it mainly for reading and surfing the net (and maybe some video).
P.S how is fair with a stylus?
thanks and sorry for my English (i'm Italian)

Please provide more information, like
does it include the keyboard dock?
what is the memory size? 16g or 32g?
it's the 16 gb version without keyboard.
In a shop? Still boxed and untouched? A steal IMO!
unfortunatly the 16gb version are the ones being exposed (so not totally untouched) and hardly available, tomorrow i'll try to see the last shop because today is closed.
In the meantime i found the 32gb discounted to 399 euro and this is unboxed and untouched....is it a good deal the 32 gb?

Not a good buy at all, your best deal is with Amazon which is cheaper and with 32g storage capacity. Here's their prices:
Amazon prices tablet only (forex 1 euro = 1.32 dollars)
Brand new 32g 340 euro
.................16g 292 euro
Used like new 32g 258 euro you save 42 euro
.....................16g 218 euro you save 82 euro
Your best buy is the 32g used like new for 258 euros if you can order it from Amazon. The Transformer I bought was a 32g for 240 euros and it works perfectly upgrading to ICS. Good luck!

It costs 54 euros more than the current prices at Amazon, but since your max limt is 400 then it should be ok. Much, much better if you can order from Amazon though because you can return easily if something is not working or broken.
thanks tedr44, i checked amazon but unfortunatly the only one who ships to Italy it will cost 399 dolars so 305 euro without shipping (transformer 32gb used) and i'm keen to buy it. Is it safe to make such purchase in case the tablet is damaged during the shipment?sorry for my boobness but it's first time purchasing from amazon.COM.
EDIT: the price of the 32gb used with shipment is 365 euro and without taxes....so not convenient.
Get the one that is in the shop near you, if anything would be wrong with it after all you can return there. It´ll save you a headache

Amazon has a very good record when it comes to customer service, if you have their phone number you may want to call and inquire about their policy on returning damaged shipments. But in my experience, Amazon will always try to correct any problem you may have because they want you to come back to them for future business. Why don't you try so you have the experience to order online for the first time with Amazon?
Amazon's customer service is amazing. They also have the most lenient return policy I have ever seen.
If there is even a slight problem with your purchase, they will take care of it.
i know that amazon is a good service, i purchased lots of things from amazom.IT, but was concerned about buying used goods. however i realized that buying from USA is not a good deal after the shipment cost and taxes (in italy you have to pay 21% of the price), in fact the 32 gb used will be over 400 euro.
so i'll try the last shop which opens in 2 hours, otherwise i'll wait for new discounts or buy it for the normal price 338 euro....
quite indecisive because i don't know if it's better to wait later or not to buy a good tablet for less than 400, i've read about google tablet but i prefer a 10 inch one.
thanks you guy for your advice
300 bucks is a good deal if you can't come up with the extra 200 for the prime.

unfortunatly all the transformer 16gb were sold. now i'm indecided whether buying it at 340 euro or wait..what do you think is better?
I would wait, the price of the transformers is dropping fast. I was able to pick up a 16GB model over here in the states with KB dock for $250. This was probably an especially good deal, but I can't see the price going anywhere but down.
Does Europe have a Craigslist or similar online classified listings? That is where I would look.
for italy there is ebay, where i found the transformer 16 gb for 250 euro, hoping no one raise the price higher in the next 24 hour....if the price will be under 280 maybe i'll buy it even though is used.
sorry for the double post but wanted to bump the post for attention.....i founded an acer iconia tab a 500 for 299 euro with 32gb, what do you think?

I'd really recommend purchasing through a vendor who will handle issues for you, or offers their own warranty if you are going with ASUS.
My current RMA has resulted in:
Receiving another customers tablet.
Receiving back my tablet, without the charger they asked me to send in, and with the same issue it was sent in for.
Receiving a charger without the adapter to plug it into the socket.
This is still ongoing, and when you call support, they just say, we'll escalate, and someone will call you in 2 days if you ask to speak to a manager, or have an issue.
The device was great while it worked, but I'd personally look for a vendor who is good with returns and/or offers a 3rd party warranty.
i'm sorry for the problem your facing michiganenginerd and i heard the same thing for the transformer prime (was going to buy it a month ago). I'm quite settled to buy the used iconia a500 (32gb) for 299 (with valid warranty) because is perfect fo my purpose (reading and surfing thenet).
IS it ok?
This is the best price i find on ebay.

I own the MK802 , little cool gadgets, however, the speed is a little slow, those new UG802 use the RK3066 dual core chip, from their specification, seems the antutu benchmark score is 3 times than the MK802.
