Any news on when it will ship? The processor and video are already dated http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/toshiba-announces-at100-tablet-10-1-inches-worth-of-honeycomb/ and still not released. What is Toshiba waiting for? Are they going to scrap the prototype specs and ship a more current model?

What a failure from Toshiba not to offer a quad core tablet for the Xmas season. The Thrive for $300 or less is a great value. That's 50% the cost of the Toshiba Prime / doc combo.

Dell has announced the prices for the much anticipated Streak and Aero Android phones. The 5-inch Streak will be $299.99 with an eligible two-year AT&T agreement, and $549.99 if bought outright. It's normal-sized little brother, the Aero, will run you $99.99 with contract, and only $299.99 off contract.
For the Streak, you will need to sign up for the pre-sale opportunity, which gives you a spot in line, free shipping and a $0.99 cent Plantronics Bluetooth headset. Those who register will receive a special purchase link sometime on July 27, and if you don't use it before July 28, the deal disappears. No such deal for the Aero, which will be available at the Dell website on Aug. 9. [Dell]
this is great
$299 w/ contract is a lot for a Snapdragon based device running android 1.6. I've been torn between the Streak and Captivate but at those prices the Captivate is a easy choice.
The Aero doesn't actually seem too bad compared to the $129 Aria.
Too bad for us T-mo users.....

Not really.
The Streak is miles better and will be even better when we get the 2.X update later this year.
Also, Samsung make terrible, terrible phones... (not quite as bad as Motorola though )

It actually is when we are about three months away from dual core phones. Also samsung has really stepped up their game with the Galaxy series. I haven't seen one bad review for these phones. Streak as epic as it is, 299.99 is alot when you can get an iphone 4 for 199 or a captivate for 199.99.

Don't get me wrong I really like the Streak form factor and was set on getting the device when my contract is up but I can't justify spending $100+ more for slower hardware (and an older OS). The Scorpion cpu in the Snapdragon SoC is competitive enough but the Adreno 200 gpu is severely underpowered compared to the PowerVR SGX 540 in the Galaxy S series.
I've heard the horror stories about Samsung's poor support for older phones but they seem to have turned a new leaf with the Galaxy S phones. They have already announced a update to Froyo and if the speculation is accurate it may actually come out before Dell releases one for the Streak.
If Dell would release a refreshed streak with a Tegra 2, Snapdragon Dual Core, or Moorestown SoC $299 then w/ contract would be justified but the current model should be priced at $199 or less to be in line with devices running similar hardware.
Looks like they might back away from that pricing -

Just wanted to share costco.com is selling the 16 for 429 and the 32 for 499. They have a 90 day return policy so if a better tablet comes out, take yours back and buy the better one.

Best buy has 8gb version on sale for only $279 right now. The black Friday sale ends Saturday though. They should have plenty in stock as this is not a popular tablet. I'm seriously considering getting one since they sold out of the 16gb Asus Transformer for only $249. I'm doing my research now comparing the two. The Thrive has the full size ports going for it. I am concerned about the battery life and if this thrive has IPS screen like transformer. From the demo version at best buy, it didn't look like the screen was looking as good as the Transformer although same screen resolution. Also heard this thrive doesn't have gorilla glass. What can you owners tell me if any of this Is true or not. I'd rather have more storage but not an issue since this tkes full size SD cards.

BuyDig offers the 1.6-lb. Toshiba Thrive 10.1" 16GB Google Android Tablet in Black, model no. PDA01U-00101F, for $369.95. Coupon code "SDEALS070" cuts it to $299.95. With $7.95 for shipping, that's the lowest total price we could find by $50, although we saw it bundled with a Toshiba back cover for $8 less last week (since expired). It features an NVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core processor, 10.1" 1280x800 IPS multi-touch LED-backlit LCD, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal flash storage, 2-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel back-facing camera, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n wireless, SD card slot, GPS, built-in gyroscope, HDMI output, Google Android 3.1 (Honeycomb), and more.

Toshiba Thrive is only $259.99 today (2-29-12) with $5 shipping.
Thinking about jumping on this.
Dan
Just saw this elsewhere, and wondering too whether I should get it. I was originally looking at some 7" tablet but the full-size ports and removable battery are nice. And yeah, there are better tablets out/coming, but they also cost more and either require proprietary connectors or don't have full-size ones.
Thinking about it too but will hold off. It's a shame it's only for one day. Waiting to see if anything Comes up about the Asus memo 370t from mwc later in the week. Also there doesn't seem to be a lot of dev for the thrive.

Well, considering the number one brand my company repairs daily is Toshiba. I don't believe it to be a very reliable item. Very cheap though.
Also, sale ended. :/

Indication of a newer model on the way?
it has been at this prince since Jan. 2012
Best buy has a weekly add that shows it as $100 off.
Yeah, I just bought this at that price. The 8.9 dropped $50 as well. The sale ends the 10th of March.
Some things to keep in mind though...
- The G-Tab 2 is meant to be a replacement for the originals. According to Nvidia they've lost Samsung as a customer so the 1GHz chip in the G-Tab 2 might not be Teg2 (a good thing).
- No Android tablet will sell for more than the iPad (and they barely sell at the same price). The 11.6 will most likely be the same price as the iPad3. The G-Tab 2 will most likely be Samsung's "value" tablet and sell at $399ish in 16GB with the Note 10.1 somewhere in between.
- When the G-Tab 2 is released prices on the original will probably drop further to get rid of existing stock.

They haven't learned. They will price it high and blame Android. They don't listen to the free market. You will see this at 10.1 2 at 599.

But somehow, being the most expensive, offering the least number of expansion ports, and having the most expensive accessories they've managed to retain the highest market share of any Market-capable tablet manufacturer. As long as that continues they have no incentive to change their behavior. And if the iPad3 keeps the same pricing as the iPad2 Samsung will be iucky to get $599 for the 11.6 better yet the G-Tab 2.

I was really happy when I bought my T580. Now today I bought a T590 and ... not so much
All in all, I'm a bit disappointed. For the money, I wonder if there are better options.
I don't remember the exact price I paid for the old one but it was < $200 so I felt I couldn't spend the same and get a two year old tablet..hence the T590 ..but so far..I'm less than impressed...

the S4 is just really high for me...
I was happy with my T580 but ... the screen is no longer displaying anything now..
the T590 just doesn't seem like two years of technical evolution ... it's certainly no revolution :silly:
I kinda bricked my LG Pad and ATM I'm looking to choose between those two...
I found a 10.1 at 161 € and a 10.5 at 220 € so only 59 € difference... I guess that should pay for the 3 Gb of RAM instead of 2 GB (both have 32 Gb storage) and the USB-C...
Btw, is battery life similar? or is it better on the 10.1? (as I read on some reviews).

First, I don't know if your 10.1 is different, or not, but the U.S. one 2016 model that I had, had only 2GB ram and micro usb. Might find the UK samsung site and check those specs.
From the links in my post above, it looks about the same. I haven't had the T590 long enough to judge and frankly, I never kept track on the T580. Some apps can eat it quick. Personally, if I find the most apps work on LineageOS, I'll use it or at a minimum root it, and just the control over running apps should extend the battery.

I've owned several T580s and just bought another one, used, for $99 including shipping. I'm thinking about a 590 simply because in is a later model and might get more attention from devs in the future.
I sold my last T580 a few month ago in favor of a Hipad I got for what I sold the T580. The Hipad has higher spec than the T590 but there isn't much XDA activity for it. I missed trying out new ROMs every about every other week , so I just bought another T580. Can't have too many tablets.
I really don't understand why Samsung even bothered releasing the 2018 version of Tab A 10.5 since it came with Snapdragon 450 and same old LPDDR3 RAM. The Snapdragon 450 uses 8xA53 ARM cores, just like the Exynos SoC in the 2018 model. Their performance must be identical, which is confirmed by single core geekbench 4 scores, both in low 700s.
The way I see it, the only significant improvement is that 2018 model finally can have stereo sound in the landscape mode, instead of firing "left" and "right" sound all from one side. Neither seems to have the DRM to play Netflix in HD, which is a big fault in a tablet with a wide aspect ratio screen.
The 2019 model SM-T510 seems to fix the issue by finally moving to a CPU configuration with 4xA73 + 4xA53 cores and LDDDR4 SDRAM. The 32GB model comes with only 2GB of RAM, but 64GB model comes with 3GB.
In order to make the matters even more confusing for consumers, most of whom are not aware of these specs differences, all three Tab A models with 10+ inch screens are available in the USA market. Walmart and Sam's Club sell ONLY the 2016 model as of a couple of weeks ago, the Amazon sells the 2018 model, and the Best Buy stores sell only some kind the 2019 Tab A SM-t510 models. What a mess really.
$99 T580
I received my T580 yesterday afternoon. For $99 I expected it to show some signs of wear but was pleasantly surprised to find it in like new condition. So far I've had fun installing three different ROMs on it. The cheapest T510 I found was double the price and it was the 32bit version. So long as the devs keeping supporting the T580, I just don't think the 2019 models add enough to warrant the price difference.
I just bought my sm-t590 at Walmart in the store for 199 it was under a stack of t580s and they all looked the same I asked about the 580 it was 179 and only 16gb and 590 was 32gb for 20 more dollars. I had to dig to find it never heard of the new tab A until I found it the other day. I have been using my tab pro 8.4 since 2014 and paid 249 for it and I am definitely impressed with the new tab A 10.5 value with what I got! The sm-t590 is a nice tablet!

The T590 is the 2018 version. The 2019 is T510. The cheapest I see for the T590 at Walmart is $214 for a refurbished tablet. I much prefer my like new T580 for $99. And with the 2019 available, it don't think many devs will be looking to buy and develop for the 2018. Just my two cents worth.

The 2019 tab a was not yet in stock at the Walmart store. I did look online for tabs the best deal for a new tablet with storage and size was the one I bought at walmart for $199 the sm-t590. They had 580 and 590 and yes I know the sm-t590 is the 2018 version, also it has been said that the 590 should receive pie but I don't really care about that much if they send it or not. Who cares what Samsung releases. I've got 4 different version of 64bit Pie installed on my T580.:good::good:
I returned the sm-t590 to walmart I had it for 29 days and the screen went dead called Samsung and they were not even willing to help me get a return label, so I pleaded with Walmart to take it back even though only 15 days for tabs return policy, but manager let me exchange it for sm-t510 man does it move much quicker in touch and browsing videos etc. I almost was screwed! Never buying from Walmart again!
