[Q] Cracked MT4G screen, need some opinions.

Hey guys,
I'm new to the website, new to android but loving it so far.
I would really appreciate any opinions here. My girlfriend and I both bought our phones about a month ago. Mine has the tmobile extended warrenty (which is not something I would usually get, but it's a new phone plan and I can cancel so I said yes for now) hers does not. Well of course (I saw it coming) she dropped her phone and has a terrible crack down the screen.
I was wondering if anyone has an opinions on what I should do
Are there any good screen replacement sites anyone has tried that are trust worthy? Or would a better option be purchasing the screen myself and trying to install it (not sure how difficult something like this would be but wouldn't mind the challenge if it is a viable option)
Last thing I was thinking was just filing a lost phone claim for my phone and paying the deductible which is $130 dollars.

I used to work for HTC based here in Houston, TX.
We repaired and refurbished all HTC phones for ATT, Tmo and so on and so forth.
It's not easily done at home. Especially with phones that had touch screens.
Torque screwdrivers to get the right tightness, air compressors to clear dust from the screen and other tools needed to separate parts of the phone without damaging them.
In my opinion, and it's not a professional one,claim the lost and pay the 130.
It's easier than going through all the trouble.
And from the only site I came across, they sold digitizers/lcd for 99.99 I believe.
I don't remember the site though. I've already deleted the bookmark.

You'd have to call Tmo and freeze your SIM, which means you'd need a new one.
You can talk yourself out of having to pay for a new sim card. (Trust me.)
They can even make a note of it and you can pick it up at a Tmo corporate retail store.
But you would have to take the new phone for yourself and the old one for your girl.
Just better played that way.

and what if they freeze it based of the IMEI which isn't on your sim... then you would pay 130 for nothing...

You would need to really lose your phone. Asurion isn't dumb and they will prosecute for fraud. Just an fyi if you do start using the same phone again that was lost its gonna be bad.

Has anyone had any experience with something similar?
I think that claiming my phone lost would be too risky.

They can't freeze a phone, it doesn't belong to them. The SIM is a different story.
You're suggesting something that doesn't make sense.
But anyway. An opinion was asked for and I gave it.

I would like it hear from as many people as possible, obviously the final decision is mine to make.
I had a couple iphones before this mytouch, caseless and had no problems bc I took care of it. She didnt make is past the third week...

That sucks man.
I was just out at Upicom to look at some iphones for my wife.
The guy I talked to out there seemed really knowledgeable.
I'd say give them a try. Via their website it says they fix the MT4G LCD for 130.

IMHO
i would just call tmobile, tell them your phone fell and has a cracked screen.
use your warranty for your gf phone, and ship back the cracked one once you receive the replacement. No fraud, and your on the clear.

Don't do asurion. The deductible is 130 yes but they also have too approve your claim. And you have to pay an extra 50 if your claim gets processed

Need to Vent!

So... TODAY, I finally got my fascinate exactly how I want it.
Im running SC2.9.2V... Midnight Steel Theme... All my apps set....
everything running great. Best its ever been.
So, what happens...
The phone is sitting on the console of my car... Minding its own business... Some guy cuts me off and it falls between the small crack between my seat and the console. So, I park... get out of the car... and start to move the seat back and i hear CRACKKKKKKK......
So, I start moving the seat forward... Somehow, get my hand under the seat and pull out my phone... Screen is completely Cracked... ARGHHHHH
I have the Bestbuy insurance, so they will replace it, but now I have to start all over again.. Rooting... Installing... blah blah blah...
Ok... I feel slightly better now...
Gonna call Bestbuy now and start the replacement process

...good luck with that, most insurance policies through retailers don't cover cracked screens...

OK.. more VENTING
So, I call BB...
1... They tell me my plan was cancelled back in Dec... The Credit Card I had on file had expired and they couldnt bill it
2... They can not re-instate the policy because its over 3 months since cancellation
3... I had planned on telling them that I lost the phone, but it turns out that they dont cover loss or theft..
Man... This sucks
So, turns out, I am do for an upgrade on my account. I can get a new Fascinate from Verizon or maybe I just go for the ThunderBolt.....
Hmmmm.... Now it gets interesting

CPO fascinate was going for $39.99. If you don't want to spend all that money on a Thunderbolt.

Certified Pre-Owned. Phones that come with nothing but a Battery. Also no manufacturer warranty, as far as I know.

Check them out on Verizon's website. Mine came with battery, charger, 16gb sd card, and 1 year warranty. I have had zero issue's, and the phone looked brand new.

Not a bad option!
I actually called Verizon and added the $5/month insurance...
Their insurance offers a replacement for lost phones.. the deductible is $99 for smartphones.
I cant make a claim for 30 days.
so, 31 days from today... ooops... Hello.... Verizon... I lost my phone... How do I make a claim
Its gonna be a long 30 days looking at that stupid spiderweb crack all thru the glass.

Does it still work?? You can always make a backup in Clockwork/get your new phone/use your SD Card/Root and restore.

Phone works perfect. And that is totally the plan... I just need to get the new (or CPO) phone.
Its funny... I keep thinking about the guy that cut me off... The only reason I was on that road at that time, was because I happened to go to sunglasshut and bought my wife a new pair of sunglasses... She recently broke hers and was complaining that she wanted new ones. I was gonna surprise her tonight with the new pair.
See what I get for being UNSELFISH!
Had I just headed home after work, none of this would have happened. I better get some action from her tonight !

CPO phone is actually great. People might think it is bad because someone previously owned, but I bought one in January and its running smooth as my brother's Fascinate. I actually do recommend it.

Why did you move the seat back?... bad idea!

But I thought the phone was between the seat and the console.. not laying on the glide track...
Now... The kicker... My wife HATES the sunglasses I picked... She was happily surprised that I thought of her, but I have to go back tomorrow and exchange them.
And... lastly... No Action.

My car likes to eat my phone all the time, take a turn like Jeremy Clarkson and it goes OM NOM NOM. I think my case and zagg skin have saved it from a similar fate.

Squaretrade. Warranty service is far superior to any extended warranty. Accidental drops and handling. Water damage also covered. $99 for two years coverage with $50 deductible. They will replace your broken phone with a brand new one, or give you up to $499 for a new one.

Classic I know how that goes.

No doubt a cpo will work just as well but its a shame to renew a 2 year contract for a facinate now. Yea the facinate fing rocks after flashing new kernel, rom, radio, and voodooing the filetable to ext. But is this really a good time to lock into a two year contract for a preowned facinate?

E#verytime I have my phone exactly how i want it something new comes out like a new kernel or a new something and then i end up temp bricking my phone and starting all over... I guess your worse off having to get a new phone... but on the other hand you'll have a new phone!

My friend has tmobile and he got two mytouch 4gs. He's in the 14day period to cancel so hes going to cancel and go to sprint. I have a my touch 4g as well. However it is a little dinged up and I was wondering if I switch one of his new phones out for mine if they will say anything when he returns it? What do u all think?

You're probably good to go, I don't think they would notice. If they do say something about the imei being different just tell em you had two and must've sent in the wrong one. And don't pay any attention to the people claiming it as dishonest, I see no problem whatsoever

That's pretty abusive. Anyway it probably won't work because they'll notice the serial won't match. Never seen a return like that work without atleast swapping casings or serial/imei labels.

I'm almost certain it will not work. I'm a dealer and I can tell you that we make sure all numbers on receipt, phone and original packaging match before we process the return. The phone also has to be in the same condition that you bought it in.

Wont work, when they receive it and the imei does not match they will treat it as the device not being returned at all...and your friend will get a restocking fee of about 400.00

HD2 inquiries

I have a few questions. Where can I get an HD2 for a good price? It seems like no matter where I look, it's still selling for $300. Since it's a GSM phone, can I use it with AT&T by unlocking it? I have a tilt 2 but I'd really like to try this phone out, that's why I'm asking and this will definitely be a step up for me.

You can definitely pick one up for lower than 300$. If I were you I would look on craigslist in your area or even eBay. The prices of a new hd2 should be around the 250 mark maybe a little lower. You can also unlock the hd2 so you can use it with at&t. If you want a hd2 that will work with at&t 3g look for a Telstra hd2 (9193) that work great but that maybe around the 275$ mark.

I brought mine on ebay for $120. Sniped it at the last second. Normally though I've seen them sell on there about or under $175 even. You just have to wait really. Look at an odd time if you can like on a Tuesday morning bout 2am. Lol. Not a lot of people are up then bidding so you might have better luck. Plus a lot of people don't know for your best price you really should end an auction on a weekend like late Sunday when people are most likely to be online.

common man....they are all over Craigslist for $150 **mint condition** infact i am getting one today.... for a friend !!

Not real sure where you live but here in Maryland they're far and few in-between on Craigslist. But it does separate into cities so the sellers by you won't show up for me. :-(

I love them. Best budget screen protector IMHO. I Get them for literally every phone I get because of the value/quality.
Think about them as a budget zagg. They are not perfect, but for this price they can't be beat. Plus they ship quickly with tracking and are made in the USA

I've been using these for years. Alan is a stand up guy and each time I've had an issue, he refunds and then asks questions. I've gotten all mine from eBay, the prices seem a little lower there than from his website.

Got mines...
Even though i live at the southern tip of africa.. shipping took just over a week...
Seriously impressed. And after a few days you dont even notice the screen protector. No Orange peel effect like Zagg. And the crispness of the screen is preserved.
